Say you have these two: class ProductCollection : ICollection<Product> class ProductList : IList<Product> What would you call one that were an IEnumerable<Product>? class Product--- : IEnumerable<Product> Before I read that other question I might have called it a ProductCollection actually, but taking the new info into account, that would have been a bit misleading since it does not implement ICollection<Product>. Could you call it Products? var products = new Products(); // products is/are products Almost works but sounds a bit strange... What would you call it?

• Image reflection in Silverlight 4

  I am developing a product scrolling feature where products info( product image, Name, price)will be shown side by side horizontally. i need to show the image of the product and also its reflection. under the reflected image i need to show the Prod Name and its price. The problem here is i dont want to show the complete reflected image. the oputput should be something like this Image Height-100% Reflected Image Height-20% Product name Product Price The above pattern will repeat horizontally. I am able to get the desired output with some problem. The reflected image is shown up with hieght 100% and the sapce between the actual image and product name is very high. My reflected image should be a rotated image of the actual image and only half part of the actual image should be shown. Any pointers even is highly appreciated

• Model objects versions in Django

  Hi I'm building an e-commerce website. I have a Product and Order models. It's possible that a customer order a product and then the admin change its price or other fields before the customer actually get it. A possible solution is to add a 'version' field to the Product model. When the admin update a product field I'll add a timestamp and create a new object instead of updating the old one. An Order will have a reference to a specific product version. Does this make sense? Will overriding the Product Save method be sufficient to make it work? Thanks

This will be, for example, data from a web browser: // this is what I get from the web browser, this product should // edit the one that's already in the database that has the same Id var product = new Product{ Id = 2, Name = "Mandarin Oranges" }; store.Products.Add(product); Database.Save(store); However, trying to do it this way gives me an error: a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session How do I get around this problem?

• Making Wix uninstall an old plug-in when performing an upgrade

  I have a main product which is installed using Wix and has its own UpgradeCode In between releases of the main product we sometimes release plug-ins which add or patch some functionality. The plug-ins are packaged in their own Wix generated .msi files with their own UpgradeCodes and generally install addition files is a separate folder from the main product. I want to create a new version of the main product which includes the functionality which was previously available in a plug-in. A user upgrading to the new version will no longer need the plug-in so it would be nice to uninstall it as part of the upgrade. Is there a way of making Wix uninstall a product with UpgradeCode2 when it is upgrading product with UpgradeCode1?

  in mysql i use JOIN and one query is no problem. what about mongo? imagine categories and products. products may have more categories. categories may have more product. (many to many structure) and administrator may edit categories in administration (categories must be separated) its possible write product with categories names in one query? i used this structure categories { name:"categoryName", product_id:["4b5783300334000000000aa9","5783300334000000000aa943","6c6793300334001000000006"] } products { name:"productName", category_id:["4b5783300334000000000bb9","5783300334000000000bb943","6c6793300334001000000116"] } now i can simply get all product categories, and product in some category and categories alone for editation. but if i want write product with categories names i need two queries - one to get product categories id and second to get categories names from categories by that ids. is this the right way? or this structure is unsuitable? i would like to have only one query but i dont know if its possible.

  Hi, I have a productdatabase that contains products, parts and labels for each part based on langcodes. The problem I'm having and haven't got around is a huge amount of resource used to get the different datasets and merging them into a dict to suit my needs. The products in the database are based on a number of parts that is of a certain type (ie. color, size). And each part has a label for each language. I created 4 different models for this. Products, ProductParts, ProductPartTypes and ProductPartLabels. I've narrowed it down to about 10 lines of code that seams to generate the problem. As of currently I have 3 Products, 3 Types, 3 parts for each type, and 2 languages. And the request takes a wooping 5500ms to generate. for product in productData: productDict = {} typeDict = {} productDict['productName'] = product.name cache_key = 'productparts_%s' % (slugify(product.key())) partData = memcache.get(cache_key) if not partData: for type in typeData: typeDict[type.typeId] = { 'default' : '', 'optional' : [] } ## Start of problem lines ## for defaultPart in product.defaultPartsData: for label in labelsForLangCode: if label.key() in defaultPart.partLabelList: typeDict[defaultPart.type.typeId]['default'] = label.partLangLabel for optionalPart in product.optionalPartsData: for label in labelsForLangCode: if label.key() in optionalPart.partLabelList: typeDict[optionalPart.type.typeId]['optional'].append(label.partLangLabel) ## end problem lines ## memcache.add(cache_key, typeDict, 500) partData = memcache.get(cache_key) productDict['parts'] = partData productList.append(productDict) I guess the problem lies in the number of for loops is too many and have to iterate over the same data over and over again. labelForLangCode get all labels from ProductPartLabels that match the current langCode. All parts for a product is stored in a db.ListProperty(db.key). The same goes for all labels for a part. The reason I need the some what complex dict is that I want to display all data for a product with it's default parts and show a selector for the optional one. The defaultPartsData and optionaPartsData are properties in the Product Model that looks like this: @property def defaultPartsData(self): return ProductParts.gql('WHERE __key__ IN :key', key = self.defaultParts) @property def optionalPartsData(self): return ProductParts.gql('WHERE __key__ IN :key', key = self.optionalParts) When the completed dict is in the memcache it works smoothly, but isn't the memcache reset if the application goes in to hibernation? Also I would like to show the page for first time user(memcache empty) with out the enormous delay. Also as I said above, this is only a small amount of parts/product. What will the result be when it's 30 products with 100 parts. Is one solution to create a scheduled task to cache it in the memcache every hour? It this efficient? I know this is alot to take in, but I'm stuck. I've been at this for about 12 hours straight. And can't figure out a solution. ..fredrik

The difference between component and product is, that component has quantity and measure unit: eg. component is 100g sugar - sugar is a product. • How to get notified of changes on a read only table? (I.e., Price drop notifications.)

  Let's say I have these tables/models: Product - id - last_updated_date - name - price User - id - name Wishlist - id - user_id - product_id The Product table has a few million records and is being updated automatically each night via a data import (inserting into a new table, dropping the old one). I basically have read-only access to that table/model. If a product is on a user's wishlist and the price drops, I'd like to be able to notify that user. What methods can be used to do this? I have a couple of ideas: Keep track of the Product.last_updated_date in the wishlist model and periodically poll the product table to see if it has been updated. This sounds like a horrible/non-scaleable solution. Some sort of Postgres View or Function that triggers when the Product table is updated? I'm new to postgres so I'm not yet sure if this is even possible. Something amazing that you will suggest that I haven't thought of :) Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

  I’m writing to solicit ideas for a solution to an upcoming problem. The product that provides data to our ETL process currently has multiple versions. Our clients are all using some version of the product, but not all use the same version and they will not all be upgraded at the same time. As new versions of the product are rolled out, the most common change is to add new data columns. Columns being dropped or renamed may happen occasionally, but our main focus right now is how to handle new columns being added. The problem that we want to address is how to handle the data for clients who use an older version of the product. If we don’t account for the new columns in our SSIS packages, then the data in those columns for clients using an older product version will not be processed. What we want to avoid is having to maintain a separate version of the SSIS packages for each version of the product. Has anyone successfully implemented a solution for this situation?

Product also uses platform (which is also a dynamic lib) and platform uses my libs (version-1). The names of the libs used by product and platform are same. Only versions are different and both these versions are not compatible. Is there a way with ".so" libs in linux that Platform can link to one version and product can link to another version of the same libs having the same name?

• Adding a hyperlink in a client report definition file (RDLC)

  This post shows you how to add a hyperlink to your RDLC report. In a previous post, I showed you how to create an RDLC report. We have been given the requirement to the report we created earlier, the Northwind Product report, to add a column that will contain hyperlinks which are unique per row.  The URLs will be RESTful with the ProductID at the end. Clicking on the URL will take them to a website like so: http://localhost/products/3  where 3 is the primary key of the product row clicked on. To start off, open the RDLC and add a new column to the product table.   Add text to the header (Details) and row (Product Website). Right click on the row (not header) and select “TextBox properties” Select Action – Go to URL. You could hard code a URL here but what we need is a URL that changes based on the ProductID.   Click on the expression button (fx) The expression builder gives you access to several functions and constants including the fields in your dataset. See this reference for more details: Common Expressions for ReportViewer Reports. Add the following expression: = "http://localhost/products/" & Fields!ProductID.Value Click OK to exit the Expression Builder. The report will not render because hyperlinks are disabled by default in the ReportViewer control. To enable it, add the following in your page load event (where rvProducts is the ID of your ReportViewerControl): protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { rvProducts.LocalReport.EnableHyperlinks = true; } } We want our links to open in a new window so set the HyperLinkTarget property of the ReportViewer control to “_blank”   We are done adding hyperlinks to our report. • JMX Based Monitoring - Part Three - Web App Server Monitoring

  In the last blog entry I showed a technique for integrating a JMX console with Oracle WebLogic which is a standard feature of Oracle WebLogic 11g. Customers on other Web Application servers and other versions of Oracle WebLogic can refer to the documentation provided with the server to do a similar thing. In this blog entry I am going to discuss a new feature that is only present in Oracle Utilities Application Framework 4 and above that allows JMX to be used for management and monitoring the Oracle Utilities Web Applications. In this case JMX can be used to perform monitoring as well as provide the management of the cache. In Oracle Utilities Application Framework you can enable Web Application Server JMX monitoring that is unique to the framework by specifying a JMX port number in RMI Port number for JMX Web setting and initial credentials in the JMX Enablement System User ID and JMX Enablement System Password configuration options. These options are available using the configureEnv[.sh] -a utility. Once this is information is supplied a number of configuration files are built (by the initialSetup[.sh] utility) to configure the facility: spl.properties - contains the JMX URL, the security configuration and the mbeans that are enabled. For example, on my demonstration machine: spl.runtime.management.rmi.port=6740 spl.runtime.management.connector.url.default=service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/rmi://localhost:6740/oracle/ouaf/webAppConnector jmx.remote.x.password.file=scripts/ouaf.jmx.password.file jmx.remote.x.access.file=scripts/ouaf.jmx.access.file ouaf.jmx.com.splwg.base.support.management.mbean.JVMInfo=enabled ouaf.jmx.com.splwg.base.web.mbeans.FlushBean=enabled ouaf.jmx.* files - contain the userid and password. The default setup uses the JMX default security configuration. You can use additional security features by altering the spl.properties file manually or using a custom template. For more security options see the JMX Site. Once it has been configured and the changes reflected in the product using the initialSetup[.sh] utility the JMX facility can be used. For illustrative purposes, I will use jconsole but any JSR160 complaint browser or client can be used (with the appropriate configuration). Once you start jconsole (ensure that splenviron[.sh] is executed prior to execution to set the environment variables or for remote connection, ensure java is in your path and jconsole.jar in your classpath) you specify the URL in the spl.management.connnector.url.default entry and the credentials you specified in the jmx.remote.x.* files. Remember these are encrypted by default so if you try and view the file you may be able to decipher it visually. For example: There are three Mbeans available to you: flushBean - This is a JMX replacement for the jsp versions of the flush utilities provided in previous releases of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework. You can manage the cache using the provided operations from JMX. The jsp versions of the flush utilities are still provided, for backward compatibility, but now are authorization controlled. JVMInfo - This is a JMX replacement for the jsp version of the JVMInfo screen used by support to get a handle on JVM information. This information is environmental not operational and is used for support purposes. The jsp versions of the JVMInfo utilities are still provided, for backward compatibility, but now is also authorization controlled. JVMSystem - This is an implementation of the Java system MXBeans for use in monitoring. We provide our own implementation of the base Mbeans to save on creating another JMX configuration for internal monitoring and to provide a consistent interface across platforms for the MXBeans. This Mbean is disabled by default and can be enabled using the enableJVMSystemBeans operation. This Mbean allows for the monitoring of the ClassLoading, Memory, OperatingSystem, Runtime and the Thread MX beans. Refer to the Server Administration Guides provided with your product and the Technical Best Practices Whitepaper for information about individual statistics. The Web Application Server JMX monitoring allows greater visibility for monitoring and management of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework application from jconsole or any JSR160 compliant JMX browser or JMX console.

• SQL SERVER – CTE can be Updated

  Today I have received a fantastic email from Matthew Spieth. SQL Server expert from Ohio. He recently had a great conversation with his colleagues in the office and wanted to make sure that everybody who reads this blog knows about this little feature which is commonly confused. Here is his statement and we will start our story with Matthew’s own statement: “Users often confuse CTE with Temp Table but technically they both are different, CTE are like Views and they can be updated just like views.“ Very true statement from Matthew. I totally agree with what he is saying. Just like him, I have enough, time came across a situation when developers think CTE is like temp table. When you update temp table, it remains in the scope of the temp table and it does not propagate it to the table based on which temp table is built. However, this is not the case when it is about CTE, when you update CTE, it updates underlying table just like view does. Here is the working example of the same built by Matthew to illustrate this behavior. Check the value in the base table first. USE AdventureWorks2012; -- Check - The value in the base table is updated SELECT Color FROM [Production].[Product] WHERE ProductNumber = 'CA-6738'; Now let us build CTE with the same data. ;WITH CTEUpd(ProductID, Name, ProductNumber, Color) AS( SELECT ProductID, Name, ProductNumber, Color FROM [Production].[Product] WHERE ProductNumber = 'CA-6738') Now let us update CTE with following code. -- Update CTE UPDATE CTEUpd SET Color = 'Rainbow'; Now let us check the BASE table based on which the CTE was built. -- Check - The value in the base table is updated SELECT Color FROM [Production].[Product] WHERE ProductNumber = 'CA-6738'; That’s it! You can update CTE and it will update the base table. Here is the script which you should execute all together.
