• Accessing a persistent ssh tunnel

  How do I pass commands (shell) to a persistent SSH tunnel rather than open a connection for every instance? I have a Python scraper running on a client server which passes URL variables and shell commands to a remote host via a reverse tunnel (forwarded port), so that the URL's are then executed on the host (python fabric ssh localhost:12345 'browser open URL'). I could make the reverse tunnel persistent but how do I echo the url/command to the session? Update - ControlMaster (built into SSH) solves this one.

• Ubuntu getting wrong hostname from DHCP

  When provisioning new Ubuntu Precise (12.04) servers, the hostname they're getting seems to be generated from the DNS search path, not a reverse lookup on the hostname. Take the following configuration BIND is configured with the hostname, and reverse name Normal zone $TTL 600 $ORIGIN srv.local.net. @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. ( 2014082101 10800 3600 604800 600 ) @ IN NS ns0.local.net. @ IN MX 5 mail.local.net. my-new-server IN A 10.32.2.30 And reverse @ IN SOA ns0.local.net. hostmaster.local.net. The contents of the hosts file is incorrect too 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.1.1 my-new-server.util.of1.local.net of1.local.net srv.local.net my-new-server So it looks like when it creates the hosts file, it puts the entire contents of the DNS search path into the local address so the FQDN according to the server is the short hostname as defined, then the first domain in the search path. Is there a way to get around this behaviour, or fix this so it gets the hostname correctly? It's picking up the first part of the hostname, then the rest is wrong.

• How to best configure IIS7 logging to capture "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR" header

  We have IIS7 servers sitting behind an nginx reverse proxy. The reverse proxy is sending the standard "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR" header with the visitor IP address, but IIS7 logging is only logging the IP address of the nginx server (which makes sense, but it's not what I want). How can I tell IIS7 to instead log the "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR" header (or additionally log it)? (note: I'm a linux admin, not a windows one, so explicit instructions & links are sincerely appreciated)

• Can I have both apache and nginx serve my websites?

  I have an existing apache serving a couple of sites. Now I have a new django site that's ajax intensive and so I'm planning to run it on apache's mod_wsgi but I'll use nginx as a reverse proxy. Is it possible to have nginx be a reverse proxy to this new django site while make apache serve the other sites directly without using nginx? Also if you can give me a rough setup on how I might do it if its possible.

• jstree dynamic JSON data from django

  I'm trying to set up jsTree to dynamically accept JSON data from django. This is the test data i have django returning to jstree: result=[{ "data" : "A node", "children" : [ { "data" : "Only child", "state" : "closed" } ], "state" : "open" },"Ajax node"] response=HttpResponse(content=result,mimetype="application/json") this is the jstree code I'm using: jQuery("#demo1").jstree({ "json_data" : { "ajax" : { "url" : "/dirlist", "data" : function (n) { return { id : n.attr ? n.attr("id") : 0 }; }, error: function(e){alert(e);} } }, "plugins" : [ "themes","json_data"] }); All I get is the ajax loading symbol, the ajax error response is also triggered and it alerts "undefined". I've also tried simpleJson encoding in django but with the same result. If I change the url so that it is receiving a JSON file with identical data, it works as expected. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

  I'm struggling with AJAX POST from the form that was loaded into Twitter Bootstrap modal dialog. Partial view form goes like this: @using (Html.BeginForm()) { // fields // ... // submit <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } Now this is being used in non AJAX editing with classic postbacks. Is it possible to use the same partial for AJAX functionality? Or should I abstract away the inputs into it's own partial view? Like this: @using (Ajax.BeginForm()) { @Html.Partial("~/Views/Shared/ImageEditInputs.cshtml") // but what to do with this one then? <input type="submit" value="@ButtonsRes.button_save" /> } I know how to load this into Bootstrap modal but few changes should be done on the fly: the buttons in Bootstrap modal should be placed in a special container (the modal footer), the AJAX POST should be done when clicking Save which would first, validate the form and keep the modal opened if not valid (display the errors of course) second, post and close the modal if everything went fine in the view that opened the modal, display some feedback information at the top that save was succesful. I'm mostly struggling where to put what JS code. So far I have this within the List view, which wires up the modals: $(document).ready(function () { $('.openModalDialog').click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); var url = $(this).attr('href'); $.get(url, function (data) { $('#modalContent').html(data); $('#modal').modal('show'); }); }); }); The above code, however, doesn't take into the account the special Bootstrap modal content placeholder (header, content, footer). • JQTOUCH - Anytime loading occurs, add a loading class?

  Hi, I'm using JQTOUCH and in JQTOUCH several of the links are being loading via AJAX and then sliding in. The problem is that there is no loading indication provided to users. I'd like a way to add a Loading class with an AJAX spinner, when ever the an ajax call is loading, and have the class removed when the loading is done, and the page is displayed. Any ideas?

I managed to find a version alongside jQuery 1.3.2 but it does not work. What is the forward going solution!?

• Initialize content of a jQuery remote tab on initial page load

  I'm using the jQuery tabs library to create a set of remote (i.e., ajax loaded) tabs. However, to avoid the initial page load being empty until the ajax request finishes, I'd like to include the content for the initial tab with the initial page download. I've got this generally working by providing a div in the initial page load that matches the title of the tab, but even though this content appears immediately, as soon as I initialize the tabs it does the ajax request IN ADDITION which is both wasteful and causes a flicker. My basic question is how can I get jQuery tabs to NOT do an ajax request for the initially selected tab, and get this content as part of the initial page load, while still loading the other tabs dynamically. The complication is that I can't hard code the ids/hrefs for which tab is the "initial" one since the initial tab will change based on available content. I'm sure there is some kind of hacky way to do this with javascript rewriting the URLs of tabs dynamically before I initialize the tabs but I'm looking for a cleaner solution. Any ideas?

  Hi, I've trying to use the draggable effect on some divs on a page, but whenever I load the page, I get the error message: Error: $(".draggable").draggable is not a function I've had a look around it seemed other people were having this problem as they had not included the jQuery UI javascript file, but I definitely have.   i'm using NyroModal, a 3rd party jQuery based dialog script. According to these settings, I should be able to do this: $.nyroModalManual({ type : 'ajax', url : '/url', 'ajax' : { url : '/url', data : 'somedata=1' } }); However I receive an error "$.ajax() is not defined". How could this be? p.s. If I run console.debug($.ajax()) right before the nyroModalManual part, it shows the XMLHTTPObject nicely, so I'm probably doing something wrong in the settings... I just need to be able to pass data.

• Many DIVs inside parent DIV, CSS height issue

  Hi everyone, I am putting together a dynamic photo gallery and getting stuck trying to place thumbnails. Basically I am trying to place each thumbnail and caption in its own DIV, floated to the left. The thumbnails are working just as I want them to but for some reason the parent DIV refuses to cover the height of the thumbnail area.   My website, which was working before, suddenly started breaking with the error "ImproperlyConfigured at / The included urlconf resume.urls doesn't have any patterns in it" The project base is called resume.   Hello, I have an array set inside a velocity template that contains some paths. The idea is to put a few "default" .js/.css files that 90% of the pages will use in this array. However, the other pages will still have to be able to add/delete values from this array, in case there are no linked files at all, or I need to add some. • How to setup custom DNS with Azure Websites Preview?

  I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go?
