  • Windows 8 Installation doesn't detect my SATA Maxtor 6V250F0 HDD

    I've been using Ubuntu on a desktop computer I have in my house and I'd like to try to install Windows 8 and replace the Ubuntu system. In the installation wizard of Windows 8 I get stuck in the point where I have to specify the HDD to install the OS to. The problem is that I cannot see any hard disk drive to select. I believe this may be related to drivers but I don't know where to get them. Can anyone help me with this?

    I'd like to have an audio transmission shared among computers on a LAN. Although there are various systems to do this -- shoutcast/icecast, pulseaudio, etc. -- I'm not aware of any that provide synchronization. I'd like to have different computers in the house playing the same audio, and have the same sample playing at the same time. Is there a system which can do this?

Can anyone tell me where I would find the info regarding messages that appear when people are launching various in-house apps : This program is from an untrusted location, Click Run or Cancel.   • Can you plug DVD/Game system into an LCD?

    All the LCD's in our house have DVI and VGA inputs. None support S-Video or any analog formats. Our game systems (nes, snes, n64, ps, ps2, gamecube, etc..) and DVD and VHS players only have composite (the yellow/red/white cords..?) or S-Video (that PS2-input like cable..?). How can I convert the signal these analog systems output to work on VGA or DVI?

Capacity to house a disk per CPU core is important.

  • Best method of transferring files over internet?

    I have a seedbox (running Ubuntu 9.10) at my (parent's) house and will be leaving it there once I go to college this fall. Currently I'm using samba to transfer files between computers, but I was wondering if once I am on my university's network, whether using FTP would be a better option versus samba over a VPN. The files will range from 100 MB to 17 GB, if that matters. Would one be more efficient over the other? Did I forget any other options?

    Hi, We are moving away from our Exchange environment on a hosted server to one managed in-house, and I was wondering how to have the hosted Exchange forward all email received to the new server - the servers are not on the same network, and both have the same users setup. Basically, I just need the hosted Exchange to act as a dumb relay - accept the mail, send it straight on to our new server without trying to deliver locally. Is this possible? Regards Moo

But it runs some fairly noisy fans 24/7 if it's left on, so I am in the habit of turning the machine off as soon as I'm done with it.     I have IIS7 on my computer, and I can access it through other computers in my house on the same network through my computer's IP address - 192.168.1.10x Instead of typing in http : //192.168.1.10x/ I want to be able to go to http : //somename/ I know you can change the hosts file to add it but I'd have to do that on each computer and I'd still have to type in the IP to access it from my iPod/Wii... etc.
