• Mail reaches only after closing connection

  I have setup a postfix mail server with saslauthd. I telnet from a windows machine to send a mail. All works fine, I even get the msg 250 Mail queued for delivery. On the mailserver I see connect msgs on /var/log/mail.log for connection but not for the mail queuing or delivery. Only after I close the telnet connection I get all the valid msgs in mail.log. The mail also doesnt arrive in my Maildir/new directory until I close the connection. I am very new to Ubuntu, any pointers will be much appreciated. Many thanks.

• Kinect joint coordinates and XNA animation

  I have written a program to record the x,y,z coordinated of the Hand joint and I want to animate my models 2D or 3D according to these coordinates. . .However the output of the x,y,z coordinates are fluctuating from -0 to 1 but not more than that.. • How to reload Variety wallpaper changer?

  I have installed Variety desktop wallpaper changer. Its a good app. But sometimes when I start Ubuntu and login to my account it fails to load. I try to manually start the app by clicking on variety icon, but doesnt work. I tried alt+F2 and enter 'killall gnome-panel' but nothing seems to happen. I checked in my startup applications window, variety is present there to start when Ubuntu starts. but then why it does not start always? Restarting my pc is the only solution then. Is there a way that I can reload Variety without logging off or restarting Ubuntu? Thanks in advance.

  im unable to record sound using this app. the check box is checked for the sound, it just doesnt record sound. idk what to do. i have ubuntu 12.04 64bit. plus nvidia drivers dont work what so ever. so im just using the default ubuntu drivers. i looked up the site for this app. they dont give an instructions on sound for this program. any help me please??? the microphone sound input works with it. but it cant record system sounds.

• How can i change focus when game locks it?

  I am playing wolfenstein:enemy territory, and if i play it in windowed mode, i can't change focus from game to something else (alt+tab doesnt work). EDIT1: As far as i could try, only ctrl+alt+Fx works (x is one number, for example F1 will switch to terminal). Could i somehow capture this kind of shortcut somewhere on X level and then send it to compiz to change focus (minimize currently focused window)? EDIT2: I found one other way, it works for Wolf:ET, it may help with other games too, if you turn on gameconsole (usually tilde key) game will release mouse lock (in windowed mode).

• Question about metacity issue from previous post

  Yesterday I had an issue with my 12.04 - 12.04 Does anyone know how to fix this? all of a sudden - my Terminal shortcut doesnt work and windows only appear in top left corner and some configuration causing an issue with metacity making it crash - I was walked through the problem, and found out that by creating another user account and logging onto it - the problem wasn't present anymore on that account but still was present on my old account. So my question is - was the problem just something in my old Home folder? - also - can most issues that occur like this be solved by making a new account and backing up the "Home" folder?

• Animations not accepted in animator

  In the official Unity Animator State Machine tutorial video animation clips are dragged out from the assets folder into the animator and dropped. I have a 3D model that i bought online to experiment with that comes with animations. I added a custom made animation as well. These all work well in my demo project. But when i add a animator to the assets and try to drag and drop animations onto it it doesnt work. I get a forbidden-sign as a mouse pointer. I try to add animations through the inspector but that does not work either. The tutorials makes it seem so easy and does not talk anything about what animations can be used. What am i doing wrong?

• what is the easiest way to make a hitbox that rotates with it's texture

  In xna when you have a sprite that doesnt rotate it's very easy to get the four corner of a sprite to make a hitbox, but when you do a rotation the points get moved and I assume there is some kind of math that I can use to aquire them. I am using the four points to draw a rectangle that visually represents the hitboxes. I have seen some per-pixel collission examples but I can forsee they would be hard to draw a box/'convex hull' around. I have also seen physics like farseer but I'm not sure if there is a quick tutorial to do what I want. What do you guys think is the best approach becuase I am looking to complete this work by the end of the week.

• 301 redirect to 404 page?

  Currently i'm migrating www. prefix from my urls and use htaccess to do the job. Since we have new software and cleaned database some of the old urls doesnt exists anymore. Therefore some requests redirect to 404 page. 1. www.domain.com/old-page # htaccess redirect to non-www url, 301 2. domain.com/old-page # page does not exists, 404 Does this method have any SEO issues, or even affect pagerank? Or should i check the page existence before redirecting and show 404 without redirect?

  Ive been Editing lots of videos lately. My company got a video camera: Canon Legria FS200. It saves the movies in a digital format as MOD files. Unfortunately, Adobe Premiere doesnt work with these files. I needed software to convert MOD files to QuickTime or mpeg files.   I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ATI proprietary FGLRX graphic drivers When I boot, I can see this very quick message appearing; I don't have time to read it: **Fatal Error ..................................**(&@something i cant read) I searched through the log file in /var/log/ in order to find what is wrong and I did find something in the /var/log/Xorg.1.log: 21:31:08 [ 15.734] (--) using VT number 1 [ 204.647] Fatal server error: [ 204.647] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call [ 204.647] [ 204.647] Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.x.org for help. [ 204.647] Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.1.log" for additional information. [ 204.647] But this is already Xorg.1.log. And there is a Xorg.0.log also & Xorg.0.log.old but it doesnt have any error in it. My system seems to work properly and it seems its not affected by this But how do I correct this message? Any suggestions?

• Graphical Mode breaks after suspend/ returning from Console

  When I try to go to a virtual console (ctrl alt f1) and return to f7, my screen freaks out. Its black with frequent white 'lightning bolts' flashing across the screen. Nothing works, but to force shutdown. Same when trying to resume from suspend. This doesnt happen every time, but very often. I dont know what information might be useful but: Ubuntu 12.10 ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880 this line in xsession-errors might be pertinent: (gnome-settings-daemon:1825): color-plugin-WARNING **: Done switch to new account, reload devices p.s. Ive tried the fglrx drivers but need the legacy drivers as described here, but nothing past a black screen.

  I'm working on a pong game and have recently set up FBO rendering so that I can apply some post-processing shaders. This proceeds as so: Bind texture A to framebuffer Draw balls Bind texture B to framebuffer Draw texture A using fade shader on fullscreen quad Bind screen to framebuffer Draw texture B using normal textured quad shader Neither texture A or B are cleared at any point, this way the balls leave trails on screen, see below for the fade shader.   I am aware of the C++ Virtual Table which allows dynamic dispatch for doing things at runtime (although if I am honest I am not completely sure of the full list of things it achieves). I am wondering what other "low level" aspects of C++ are there, which one doesnt usually come across when learning the C++ language? Things like: -How is multithreading and locking on objects performed? -Overloading/overwriting functions -Generics Are there other "structures", similar to the vtable, which assist with these types of things on a lower level? (and if anyone can help with what the VTable actually does it would be most appreciated!)

• Wireless doesn't connect in Ubuntu 10.04 Lxde

  Problem I have a Dell mini 9, and the wireless has worked without trouble in Ubuntu and Xubuntu versions 8.04 and 10.04. However, after installing lxde, the wireless doesnt connect. Network manager recognizes the local networks, and will say that it is connected, but ifconfig does not confirm the connection or the existance of a wlan0. I have another Ubuntu 10.04 notebook that works fine. My wireless device is Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g What I have tried I have tried to remove and install network-mananager and inxi but neither work, and sudo modprobe wl returns WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.

• What is the feature that imports URL information into facebook and google+?

  What I am trying to do. I want to be able to import heading, short description and an image into my website, just using a link. I am using Joomla but can switch to any CMS, or try to build an extension myself. The problem is I dont know where to look for example code, or what to look for. To me it doesnt seem like too difficult a process. Also, the code must be out there, with a little tweaking I can probably use someone elses, but I dont even know what to search for.

  Lately I tryed a few times to create characters for some games, but at some certain point (especially when collision detection came in) everything became messy and the interaction between chars, the world and certain items had a lot of bugs. So here is my question, how do you ussualy keep track of actions that your character is allowed to do, or more in general do you have some links / advices how to set up a char efficiantly? I´m working on a char right now, who should at least be able to run, jump, pick items up and use different fighting animations. Most ideas I came up with until now use some kind of action.priority / action.duration system to determain whats possible and what not, or a "action-manager" which defines for every action what is possible from that action on but it all doesnt work that well together.

• Basic memcached question

  I have been reading up on distributed hashing. I learnt that consistent hashing is used for distributing the keys among cache machines. I also learnt that, a key is duplicated on mutiple caches to handle failure of cache hosts. But what I have come across on memcached doesn't seem to be in alignment with all this. I read that all cache nodes are independent of each other and that if a cache goes down, requests go to DB. Theres no mention of cache miss on a host resulting in the host directing the request to another host which could either be holding the key or is nearer to the key. Can you please tell me how these two fit together? Is memcached a very preliminary form of distributed hashing which doesnt have much sophistication?

• At Symbol not working for apt get proxy authentication Ubuntu 11.10

  I Have tried two things in three places to see if it works please do help me out. Two methords: 1) replacing @ with %40 2) replacing @ with \@ Three places: 1) export with the .bashrc file 2) editing /etc/apt/apt.conf and setting acquires there 3) using gconf editor and setting the values in /system/http_proxy and setting authentication name and password and checking the use_authentication checkbox. still there is no success and i still get 407 error when trying wget or apt-get update. please do help me, been stuck with this for three hours now. also, i read somewhere that creating a file in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d and then creating a 01proxy file with acquire might work. I tried that also, but it doesnt work. Please help.

• XNA Monogame GameState Management not deserilaizing

  I am having some trouble serializing/deserializing in a little game I am doing to teach myself monogame. Basically, I am using the gamestatemnanagement resources common to monogame (screen manager etc). Then I am serializing my screen manager component and all associated screens in the OnDeactivated method: protected override void OnDeactivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { foreach (GameplayScreen screen in mScreenManager.GetScreens()) { DataManager.SaveData(screen.Level.LevelData); } mScreenManager.SerializeState(); } The Save data bit is to do with something else. Then I then override OnActivated to de serialize protected override void OnActivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { //System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("here activating"); mScreenManager.DeserializeState(); } However, when this runs it just loads a blank screen - it goes into the game initialize and the game draw method, but doesnt go down into the screens initialize or draw methods. • error:unknown filesystem grub rescue help

  I'm trying to install ubuntu on my hdd which doesnt contain any operatin system, mbr or grub. (it has 3 partitions, 1st includes my data on ntfs file system, second is linux swap now, and third ex4 filesystem) Of course i don't want to lose my data on ntfs partition. Anyway i installed ubuntu on ex4 filesystem, selected sda as device for bootloader (not sda1,2 or 2). But i got error Error:unknown filesystem Grub rescue I tried ls command. It gives (hd0) , (hd,msdos1), (hd0,msdos2) and (hd0,msdos3). then tried ls (hd0)/, ls (hd0,1)/, ls (hd0,msdos2)/, ls (hd0,msdos3)/ to find the linux filesystem to boot. But i was unsuccessful. it all gave me unknown filesystem error. Am i missing or something?
