• Writing to file VB6 without new line?

  I have some strings I want to write to a file in VB6, I can write it fine but every time I do it adds a new line automatically after each write command. Is there a function or a way to just write to the file without the automatic new line? Thanks.

• Handling file renames in git

  I'd read that when renaming files in git, you should commit any changes, perform your rename and then stage your renamed file. Git will recognise the file from the contents, rather than seeing it as a new untracked file, and keep the change history. When I want to read in an S-expression stored in a file into a running Common Lisp program, I do the following: (defun load-file (filename) "Loads data corresponding to a s-expression in file with name FILENAME." (with-open-file (stream filename) (read stream))) If, for example, I have a file named foo.txt that contains the S-expression (1 2 3), the above function will return that S-expression if called as follows: (load-file "foo.txt"). I've been searching and searching and have not found an equally elegant solution in Clojure. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Effective methods for reading and writing large files in C

  I'm writing an application that deals with very large user-generated input files. The program will copy about 95 percent of the file, effectively duplicating it and switching a few words and values in the copy, and then appending the copy (in chunks) to the original file, such that each block (consisting of between 10 and 50 lines) in the original is followed by the copied and modified block, and then the next original block, and so on. The user-generated input conforms to a certain format, and it is highly unlikely that any line in the original file is longer than 100 characters long. Which would be the better approach? a) To use one file pointer and use variables that hold the current position of how much has been read and where to write to, seeking the file pointer back and forth to read and write; or b) To use multiple file pointers, one for reading and one for writing. I am mostly concerned with the efficiency of the program, as the input files will reach up to 25,000 lines, each about 50 characters long. Thanks!

• Reading bmp file for encrypting and decrypting txt file into it

  I am trying to read a bmp file in C++(Turbo). But i m not able to print binary stream. I want to encode txt file into it and decrypt it. How can i do this. I read that bmp file header is of 54 byte. But how and where should i append txt file in bmp file. ? • Cisco Unifed Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

  We are currently deploying a WPF 4 app via click once and there is a scenario when the installation fails. If the user does not have .Net 4.0 Full install and attempts to install our app the framework installs fine but the app fails to install. If we re-run the installation again the app installs fine. • File Watcher Task

  The task will detect changes to existing files as well as new files, both actions will cause the file to be found when available. A file is available when the task can open it exclusively. This is important for files that take a long time to be written, such as large files, or those that are just written slowly or delivered via a slow network link. It can also be set to look for existing files first (1.2.4.55). The full path of the found file is returned in up to three ways: The ExecValueVariable of the task. This can be set to any String variable. The OutputVariableName when specified. This can be set to any String variable. The FullPath variable within OnFileFoundEvent. This is a File Watcher Task specific event.   Advanced warning of a file having been detected, but not yet available is returned through the OnFileWatcherEvent. This event does not always coincide with the completion of the task, as completion and the OnFileFoundEvent is delayed until the file is ready for use. This event indicates that a file has been detected, and that file will now be monitored until it becomes available. The task will only detect and report on the first file that is created or changes, any subsequent changes will be ignored. Task properties and there usages are documented below: Property Data Type Description Filter String Default filter *.* will watch all files. Standard windows wildcards and patterns can be used to restrict the files monitored. FindExistingFiles Boolean Indicates whether the task should check for any existing files that match the path and filter criteria, before starting the file watcher. IncludeSubdirectories Boolean Indicates whether changes in subdirectories are accepted or ignored. OutputVariableName String The name of the variable into which the full file path found will be written on completion of the task. The variable specified should be of type string. Path String Path to watch for new files or changes to existing files. The path is a directory, not a full filename. For a specific file, enter the file name in the Filter property and the directory in the Path property. PathInputType FileWatcherTask.InputType Three input types are supported for the path: Connection - File connection manager, of type existing folder. Direct Input - Type the path directly into the UI or set on the property as a literal string. Variable – The name of the variable which contains the path. Timeout Integer Time in minutes to wait for a file. If no files are detected within the timeout period the task will fail. The default value of 0 means infinite, and will not expire. TimeoutAsWarning Boolean The default behaviour is to raise an error and fail the task on timeout. This property allows you to suppress the error on timeout, a warning event is raised instead, and the task succeeds. The default value is false.   Installation The task is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the task to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Control Flow Items tab, and then check the File Watcher Task in the Choose Toolbox Items window. We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations. This cache is held by the SSIS service, so you need restart the the SQL Server Integration Services service. You can do this from the Services applet in Control Panel or Administrative Tools in Windows. You can also restart the computer if you prefer. You may also need to restart any current instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. Contact Information: File Watcher Task A similar error message can be shown when trying to edit the task if the Microsoft Exception Message Box is not installed. This useful component is installed as part of the SQL Server Management Studio tools but occasionally due to the custom options chosen during SQL Server 2005 setup it may be absent. If you get an error like Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ExceptionMessageBox.. you can manually download and install the missing component. It is available as part of the Feature Pack for SQL Server 2005 release. The feature packs are occasionally updated by Microsoft so you may like to check for a more recent edition, but you can find the Microsoft Exception Message Box download links here - Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - April 2006 If you encounter this problem on SQL Server 2008, please check that you have installed the SQL Server client components.   Afternoon, Clients, 10 : All Apples running either Leopard or Snow Leopard Server : Snow Leopard server, (and I have a old Dell Poweredge 650 at home running Gentoo 2.6, if anybody as a Linux solution). The situation: I work in small design company with 8 people, at present we are looking to consolidate all our image files onto one location, at present we each use our preferred single user DAM solution, be it, Adobe Bridge, iPhoto/Aperture (some don't bother at all) The filetypes commonly used are .psd, .pdf, .eps, .tiff, .jpg and RAW image files. Ideally what is needed: Centralised on one server, but allows us to search via spotlight (not essential, but would be nice) Include searchable metadata information such as date, location, title Open-source or as low cost as possibly Allow simultaneous users to import files So far, I have looked at a few open source DAM, systems, such as Razuna, Gallery (not strictly DAM), ResourceSpace, Notre-DAM, while these are brilliant and open-source, they don't integrate as smoothly with the Desktop as iPhoto and aperture. For iPhoto and aperture, I have tried creating a Shared library on the server (a tad laggy), and also using a drive with no permissions, put a library and letting each client read from it, however if they want to put images onto the library only, it's only supports one user at a time writing to the library... Any ideas what could fulfill our needs? Or is it time to bite the bullet for FinalCut Server? Thanks in advance.

• Windows file locks allowing multiple users to write to open file over network

  I have 6 windows computers (xp,vista,7) that need to access a samba share (Ubuntu 12.04). I am trying to make it so only one client can open a file at a given time. I thought this was pretty standard behavior of file locks, but I can't get it to work. The way it is right now a file can be open by two users, and changed and saved by either one of them. The last file saved overwrites what ever changes the other user made. At first I thought this was a Samba configuration problem, but I get this behavior even between two windows machines. So far I have only tested: Windows Xp Windows Vista Windows XP Samba << Windows Vista and both give the same behavior. When I tested the Samba configuration, I had set strict locking = yes and get errors logged like this: close_remove_share_mode: Could not get share mode lock for file _prod/part_number_list_COPY.xlsx Eventually all of the files are going to be moved onto the Samba share, so that is the configuration I am most concerned about fixing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. EDIT: I tested an excel file again, and it is now working properly in both above mentioned cases, I am also no longer getting the above mentioned error. I don't know what happened, perhaps a restart fixed it? (also works with strict locking = no) Although I still need to find a solution for the CAD/CAM files we use, the software is Vector and it does not seem to be using file locks. Is there any software that I can use to manage these files, so two people can't open/edit them at a time? Maybe a windows application that forces file locks? Or a dirt simple version control system? (the only ones I have seen at are too complicated for our needs).

• afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

  I have done this in vmserver 1.0. I set the Cd to point to the .iso file. Then I start the vm and it starts to install. I am on the summary screen. I have created a VM. I go to CD/DVD - edit I change the radio button to Host Medio Then I select ISO Image and Browse. Here is the problem: Then in my browser I get Inventory - Virtual Machine (directory) I don't know where that directory is. I have my ISO's in a folder on my desktop. I can't browse to my desktop. When I try to just put in a path such as c:\mydesktop\mylinuxdirectory\linux1.iso The following problems have been found:OKThe ISO Image File Path must be a valid file path in the format: "[datastore] /path/to/isoimage.iso". so how do I browse to an ISO? I can add the iso after I start the VM, but by then its too late and the VM says no Operating System installed.

  Hi, I have an A.chm file for my windows application which runs as expected. When I decompile it using HTML workshop I get set of html files, .hhc file, .hhk file. When I compile another file B.chm from these extracted files without changing any of the files.((I want to add more html contents to this file but looks like I am losing some information after decompiling)) The output file I get is 72K where as the original file was 75K. B.chm's contents look all file when viewed in the chm viewer but the behavior is lost when when used with the application. After reading around I found that if .hhp can be extracted from a .chm file then it can be re-constructed as it is without losing any mapping or aliases. Is that true?   I have legacy DB that store dates that means no-date as 9999-21-31, The column Till_Date is of type DateTime not-null="true". in the application i want to build persisted class that represent no-date as null, So i used nullable DateTime in C# //public DateTime? TillDate {get; set; } I created IUserType that knows to convert the entity null value to DB 9999-12-31 but it seems that NHibernate doesn't call SafeNullGet, SafeNullSet on my IUserType when the entity value is null, and report a null is used for not-null column. I tried to by-pass it by mapping the column as not-null="false" (changed only the mapping file, not the DB) but it still didn't help, only now it tries to insert the null value to the DB and get ADOException. Any knowledge if NHibernate doesn't support IUseType that convert null to not-null values? • Hyper-V File Server Clustering - at my wit’s end

  I am at my wit’s end with File Server clustering under Hyper-V. I am hoping that someone might be able to help me figure out this Gordian Knot of a technology that seems to have dead ends (like forcing cluster VMs to use iSCSI drives where normally-attached VHDX drives could suffice) where logic and reason would normally provide a logical solution. My hardware: I will be running three servers (in the end), but right now everything is taking place on one server. One of the secondary servers will exist purely as a witness/quorum, and another slightly more powerful one will be acting as an emergency backup (with additional storage, just not redundant) to hold the secondary AD VM and the other halves of a set of clustered VMs: the SQL VM and the file system VM. Please note, these each are the depreciated nodes of a cluster, the main nodes will be on the most powerful first machine. My heavy lifter is a machine that also contains all of the truly redundant storage on the network. If this gives anyone the heebie-geebies, too bad. It has a 6TB (usable) RAID-10 array, and will (in the end) hold the primary nodes of both aforementioned clusters, but is right now holding all VMs. This is, right now: DC01, DC02, SQL01, SQL02, FS01 & FS02. Eventually, I will be adding additional VMs to handle Exchange, Sharepoint and Lync, but only to this main server (the secondary server won't be able to handle more than three or four VMs, so why burden it? The AD, SQL & FS VMs are the most critical for the business). If anyone is now saying, “wait, what about a SAN or a NAS for the file servers?”, well too bad. What exists on the main machine is what I have to deal with. I followed these instructions, but I seem to be unable to get things to work. In order to make the file server truly redundant, I cannot trust any one machine to hold the only data store on the network. Therefore, I have created a set of iSCSI drives on the VM-host of the main machine, and attached one to each file server VM. The end result is that I want my FS01 to sit on the heavy lifter, along with its iSCSI “drive”, and FS02 will sit on the secondary machine with its own iSCSI “drive” there as well. That is, neither iSCSI drive will end up sitting on the same machine as the other. As such, the clustered FS will utterly duplicate the contents of the iSCSI drives between each other, so that if one physical machine (or the FS VM) goes toes-up, the other has got a full copy of the data on its own iSCSI drive. My problem occurs when I try to apply the file server role within the failover cluster manager. Actually, it is even before that -- it occurs when adding the disks. Since I have added each disk preferentially to a specific VM (by limiting the initiator by DNS hostname, and by adding two-way CHAP authentication), this forces each VM to be in control of its own iSCSI disk. However, when I try to add the disks to the Disks section of Storage within Failover Cluster Manager, the entire process fails for a random disk of the pair. That is, one will get online, but the other will remain offline because it does not have the correct “owner node”. I mean, really -- WTF? Of course it doesn’t have the right owner node, both drives are showing the same node name!! I cannot seem to have one drive show up with one node name as owner, and the other drive show up with the other node name as owner. And because both drives are not “online”, I cannot create a pool to apply to a cluster role. Talk about getting stuck between a rock and a hard place! I’ve got more to add, but my work is closing for the day and I have to wrap things up. I will try to add more tomorrow morning when I get in. My main objective is to have a file server VM on each machine, the storage on each machine, but a transparent failover in case one physical machine fails. Essentially, a failover FS that doesn’t care which machine fails -- the storage contents are replicated equally on each machine. Am I even heading in the right direction?

• Wireless Network Found, can't connect, repeated requests for authentication

  After trawling through the internet, on forums, support websites, and through dozens upon dozens of answered questions on this site, I've not found a solution to what seems like a fairly regular problem... I cannot connect to a wireless network, and am continually asked for the network password. I have tried countless suggested solutions on the different locations I've already referred to. None of them have worked. Details of my experience are as follows: I have just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 (32-bit). Ubuntu installed on my system seemingly fine, and I even formatted my hard drive during the process. It's as if it were a new desktop computer. During the installation I was asked to connect to a Wireless Network. I have a USB Wireless Card connected which I have used to connect desktop PC's, laptops, and a Wii to the internet from approximately the same area of the house (thus the same distance from the Wireless Router). I chose my network, entered the correct password for it (I double checked; it's definitely the right password) and proceeded with the installation. Several times before the installation was complete, I was asked to authenticate the connection, and this seemed to do nothing each time. On the repeated screens the password was already entered in the appropriate box. When Ubuntu booted up the first thing I was faced with (other than something about Language settings, or something) was another request for authentication. Again, the password was already there, so I clicked connect. It did not connect. Instead, I was once again faced with repeated requests every few minutes. I went onto my laptop, which is connected to this network, checked the details of the network, and entered them manually into my Ubuntu PC (including the IPv4 and IPv6 information) but this didn't work either, so I set it back to finding the settings automatically. Note, also, that the "Connect automatically" and "Available to all users" boxes are checked, and have been unchecked & rechecked countless times. I have also tried having my User account connect automatically, and to need a password entered at the welcome screen. Whilst I've been writing this, it has gone through a spat of connecting successfully to the network for less than a minute, before coming offline again, only to repeat the process. But it has now returned to prompting me for a password every couple of minutes. This computer has already run on the Fedora OS, and had no trouble connecting to, and maintaining a connection. I also have a laptop running Windows 7 less than a metre away from this desktop PC, which is connected and has no trouble maintaining a connection at 50%-100% strength (fluctuating). Therefore: - I know it's not the wireless card - I know it's not the PC itself - I know it's not the access point - I know it's not the location of my PC or wireless card - It is solely because of Ubuntu Everything else has worked fine, but the moment Ubuntu was introduced into the equation, it has gone completely wrong. Honestly; I prefer Ubuntu as an OS to Fedora, but if I can't solve the problem it'll be straight back to Fedora that I'll have to go. Can anyone help me at all?

• Expanding iSCSI LUNs (NTFS)

  I have a 4TB iSCSI LUN that formated as NTFS in Windows 2008. I've shared this formated volume as a folder over SMB. When the capacity of this volume is not enough, I have to add more iSCSI LUNs, but the end-users must see only the folder that I've shared before. So, when I expand the NTFS volume that is currently 4TB, with more iSCSI LUNS(for example 2 more 4TB LUN), if one of the luns is failed, or missing, will all of my data in the folder be lost? I imagine that the expanding ntfs volume is like RAID 0(striped). if it is like RAID 0, then all my data will be lost when one of the luns is failed, or missing. In brief, there are two questions in here: 1- What will be happened, if one of the luns is missing in an expanded ntfs volume? 2- Is there another way to merge all of iscsi luns as only a folder, in that way the users don't see any extra folder even if I add extra iscsi luns to the file server.(I don't mention about DFS) Regards.

  Here's what I've done... I used wsdl.exe to create a .cs class for my wsdl service connection. I made a Visual Studio project to compile the .cs into a dll having namespace CalculatorService (CalculatorService.dll). Successful thus far. I created an asp.net project added my namespace import: %@ Import Namespace="CalculatorService" % I right-clicked on the project, clicked Add Reference, found my .dll, added it, built the project, checked /bin to ensure my dll was there (and it was). % 'I called the namespace:' Dim calcService As New CalculatorService.CalculatorService() 'called the function from the service' Dim xmlResult = calcService.GetSVS_ItemTable_XML("", "", "", "", "", "") 'printed the result' Response.Write(xmlResult) % All is well LOCALLY while debugging. It found the CalculatorService, connected to it, got the XML and displayed it. I then wanted to put it on the web so I built and published my project: under "Copy" - Only files needed to run this application...selected!   i really need help here. Sitting for some time now and dont figured it out. I want to realize a very simple task - rewrite a non-existent php file to another existant php file with all arguments like: this http://example.com/nonexistent.php?url=google.com to -> http://example.com/existent.php?url=google.com I tried something like this: rewrite ^/nonexistent.php /existent.php; Which dont works (File not found). But redirect a non-existent html file to a php file like this: rewrite ^/nonexistent.html /existent.php; works. I dont want to rewrite a html file, but this is still a confusing behaviour. Therefore it tried also something like this (and some variations): rewrite ^/nonexistent.php?url=^(.*)$ /existent.php?url=$1; which is also not working. (Maybe the syntax is bad) Any help here? It would be very nice!

• How to create a text file from column and FTP that text file to server

  I have workbook with 2 sheets (Sheet1 and sheet2). On sheet1 user will enter the data which will be populated in the column B and then column C will hold the values from Col A and B on sheet2. I need to create a text file from the values in coloumn C on a click of a button and then upload(FTP) that file to a server. So the sheet1 will have 2 buttons. Button1 will save the excel file and create the text file in windows temp directory. e.g text.xls text.prop (text file whoch has all the values in column C on sheet2) Button2 will upload (FTP) the text file (.prop) to a server. Can anyone please send me the steps and VB code to achieve the above tasks? Thanks in Advance Addi
