• Installing Ubuntu

• Resize Partition with gparted

  I wanted to create more space for Ubuntu on my hard disk in favor of my windows partition. I booted the livecd and resized the ntfs partition to 100gb. Then I wanted to resize my ubuntu (ext4) partition to fill up the created unallocated space. A screenshot of my current disk. (With the livecd there's no 'key' icon after sda6) My first thought was just right click on sda6 ? move/resize ? done. Unfortunately I cannot resize or move the partition. However I can resize the ntfs partition. I guess it is because the extended sda4 partition is locked. I couldn't see an unlock possibility though… So how do I resize the ext4 partition anyway, probably by unlocking the extended partition, but how? Thanks in advance.

• Know a little of a lot or a lot of a little? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Is it better to specialize in a single field I like, or expand into other fields to broaden my horizons? My buddy and I who have been programming for 13 years or so were talking this morning and a question that came up was is it better to know a little of a lot (i.e. web, desktop, VB.Net, C#, jQuery, PHP, Java etc.) or is it better to know a lot of a little (meaning expert in something). The context of this question is what makes someone a senior programmer? Is it someone that has been around the block a few times and has been in many different situations or one that is locked in to a specific technology that is super knowledgeable in that one technology? I see pro's and con's of both scenarios.. Just wondering what others thought.

  Hello!.As you may notice :), this is my first post on geekswithblogs.com . I  have been using the .Net Framework mainly to develop ASP.NET WebApps for some years now and I am moving from using the .Net Framework 2.0 to using the latest features on the 4.x Frameworks, I am planning to document whenever is possible some of the stuff I learn using this space kindly given by the staff of the site. The feedback I get will also be very important for my progress and my plan is to learn a lot from what you guys can teach me with your comments on here.I also found myself with the necessity of putting somewhere code samples because sometimes when you post on forums the entries get locked and you can't do anything to add relevant details on them. The code will either be explained on its entirety or will be posted on a link that has an explained working sample for you guys to test and learn from.My posts will be in English, and I am an intermediate English speaker/writer so bare with me if it's not perfect sometimes, I am always learning something new though.I hope this get to be a useful resource for anyone interested. • No lock screen when the right click menu is open

  I just found that the lock screen on my laptop does not show up when the right click menu is open. I discovered this when I pressed the right click button accidentally while closing the lid and the laptop went to sleep, but the lock screen never showed up when I opened the lid again. I am also not able to lock the system manually(with ctrl+alt+L) when the right click menu is open. Is this by design or is it a bug? I would assume that the screen should be locked automatically when the computer goes to sleep, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Anyone have any suggestions? My specs are: Dell Vostro 1500, Ubuntu 12.10

Previous to this release you had to use the $5 Internet Channel and the Opera Browser to access YouTube. It worked but it wasn’t elegant by any means. • AHCI Hotswap in Lucid Server

  Does Lucid support hotswapping of AHCI devices? Is there anything more to it than simply unmounting all filesystems on the drive to be disconnected and plugging in the new disk? 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801IR/IO/IH (ICH9R/DO/DH) 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02) is the controller I'm working with. BIOS is set to AHCI. I also tried simply unmounting and unplugging. That seemed to work fine. Plugging in a new drive locked up the system. AHCI kernel module is also loaded. I've also looked at the Raid WIKI on kernel.org which talks about hardware requirements for AHCI HotSwapping of disks. My drives and cables all appear to meet the criteria, but most of that info pertains to the electrical side (grounding, etc...).

• Does 64-bit Ubuntu work on the Acer Aspire One D255

  The Acer Aspire One D255 is the cheapest dual core netbook on the market right now. It has an Intel Atom N550 which should be able to run a 64-bit OS. But when I try to boot the Ubuntu 64-bit live CD I only get one line of diagnostic output that it "found something" on the USB CD drive before locking up. I haven't been able to find anything by Googling yet. Could it just be driver issues for this machine or could the platform be inherently frail for running 64-bit? (My machine is two days old on trial and Windows 7 and Ubuntu 32-bit run but it has locked up under casual use on both OSes.)

• Folder Permissions for new partition - can't move files

  I'm using Ubuntu 14.04. I used the install CD to repartition my HD by resizing /dev/sda1 and creating /dev/sda3 as a Primary Partition. I named it "Media". When I reboot from HD, when I try to move files from the home directory to the new partition, I get an error message "Error while copying. The folder “TV” cannot be copied because you do not have permissions to create it in the destination." The new partition shows up in Gparted as locked, with mount point /media/ian/Media and Label Media. I want to move my media files from the boot partition to a separate partition. Any advice?

• Google Search not displaying results from sub-pages

  I published a new site with some delicate content on September 26, 2012 UTC and no results from sub-pages - only from the main page - appear in Google Search. Entering "neven lovric" "cat out of the bag" into Google Search finds the main page. Is this type of behavior normal? I ask this because the first site was ceased - my account was locked - by the NameCheap, Inc. Risk Assessment Team, allegedly due to PayPal, Inc. reversing my payment for the extension of the registration of the domain before I was able to publish any content on it. In 2011 UTC, Google, Inc. blocked all results for certain keywords from being displayed to their users in the Arab Republic of Egypt during the demonstrations there. So, considering previous events, this is not an unlikely scenario in this case, also.
