  • Calculating a circle or sphere along a vector

    - by Sparky
    Updated this post and the one at Math SE (http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/127866/calculating-a-circle-or-sphere-along-a-vector), hope this makes more sense. I previously posted a question (about half an hour ago) involving computations along line segments, but the question and discussion were really off track and not what I was trying to get at. I am trying to work with an FPS engine I am attempting to build in Java. The problem I am encountering is with hitboxing. I am trying to calculate whether or not a "shot" is valid. I am working with several approaches and any insight would be helpful. I am not a native speaker of English nor skilled in Math so please bear with me. Player position is at P0 = (x0,y0,z0), Enemy is at P1 = (x1,y1,z1). I can of course compute the distance between them easily. The target needs a "hitbox" object, which is basically a square/rectangle/mesh either in front of, in, or behind them. Here are the solutions I am considering: I have ruled this out...doesn't seem practical. [Place a "hitbox" a small distance in front of the target. Then I would be able to find the distance between the player and the hitbox, and the hitbox and the target. It is my understanding that you can compute a circle with this information, and I could simply consider any shot within that circle a "hit". However this seems not to be an optimal solution, because it requires you to perform a lot of calculations and is not fully accurate.] Input, please! Place the hitbox "in" the player. This seems like the better solution. In this case what I need is a way to calculate a circle along the vector, at whatever position I wish (in this case, the distance between the two objects). Then I can pick some radius that encompasses the whole player, and count anything within this area a "hit". I am open to your suggestions. I'm trying to do this on paper and have no familiarity with game engines. If any software folk out there think I'm doing this the hard way, I'm open to help! Also - Anyone with JOGL/LWJGL experience, please chime in. Is this making sense?

  • Powerpoint 2010 crash on quickstyle menu

    - by Marcus Lindblom
    Windows 7 64-bit, recent install, added Office 2010. When I create some boxes and open the quick-style menu, it crashes (or stops responding, in windowese, and then it sends an error report). I've run the "Repair" from the installer, but it didn't help. There's nothing in Windows Update I've Googled and searched on Microsoft's site, but n Any other ideas? (It's not related to this ppt crash question as that concerns PPT 2007. I have my nginx conf file so that when ever a mobile device visits my site the url gets rewritten to m.mysite.com I did it by adding the following set $mobile_rewrite do_not_perform; if ($http_user_agent ~* "android.+mobile|avantgo|bada\/|blackberry|blazer|compal|elaine|fennec|hiptop|iemobile|ip(hone|od)|iris|kindle|lge |maemo|midp|mmp|netfront|opera m(ob|in)i|palm( os)?|phone|p(ixi|re)\/|plucker|pocket|psp|symbian|treo|up\.(browser|link)|vodafone|wap|windows (ce|phone)|xda|xiino") { set $mobile_rewrite perform; } if ($http_user_agent ~* "^(1207|6310|6590|3gso|4thp|50[1-6]i|770s|802s|a wa|abac|ac(er|oo|s\-)|ai(ko|rn)|al(av|ca|co)|amoi|an(ex|ny|yw)|aptu|ar(ch|go)|as(te|us)|attw|au(di|\-m|r |s )|avan|be(ck|ll|nq)|bi(lb|rd)|bl(ac|az)|br(e|v)w|bumb|bw\-(n|u)|c55\/|capi|ccwa|cdm\-|cell|chtm|cldc|cmd\-|co(mp|nd)|craw|da(it|ll|ng)|dbte|dc\-s|devi|dica|dmob|do(c|p)o|ds(12|\-d)|el(49|ai)|em(l2|ul)|er(ic|k0)|esl8|ez([4-7]0|os|wa|ze)|fetc|fly(\-|_)|g1 u|g560|gene|gf\-5|g\-mo|go(\.w|od)|gr(ad|un)|haie|hcit|hd\-(m|p|t)|hei\-|hi(pt|ta)|hp( i|ip)|hs\-c|ht(c(\-| |_|a|g|p|s|t)|tp)|hu(aw|tc)|i\-(20|go|ma)|i230|iac( |\-|\/)|ibro|idea|ig01|ikom|im1k|inno|ipaq|iris|ja(t|v)a|jbro|jemu|jigs|kddi|keji|kgt( |\/)|klon|kpt |kwc\-|kyo(c|k)|le(no|xi)|lg( g|\/(k|l|u)|50|54|e\-|e\/|\-[a-w])|libw|lynx|m1\-w|m3ga|m50\/|ma(te|ui|xo)|mc(01|21|ca)|m\-cr|me(di|rc|ri)|mi(o8|oa|ts)|mmef|mo(01|02|bi|de|do|t(\-| |o|v)|zz)|mt(50|p1|v )|mwbp|mywa|n10[0-2]|n20[2-3]|n30(0|2)|n50(0|2|5)|n7(0(0|1)|10)|ne((c|m)\-|on|tf|wf|wg|wt)|nok(6|i)|nzph|o2im|op(ti|wv)|oran|owg1|p800|pan(a|d|t)|pdxg|pg(13|\-([1-8]|c))|phil|pire|pl(ay|uc)|pn\-2|po(ck|rt|se)|prox|psio|pt\-g|qa\-a|qc(07|12|21|32|60|\-[2-7]|i\-)|qtek|r380|r600|raks|rim9|ro(ve|zo)|s55\/|sa(ge|ma|mm|ms|ny|va)|sc(01|h\-|oo|p\-)|sdk\/|se(c(\-|0|1)|47|mc|nd|ri)|sgh\-|shar|sie(\-|m)|sk\-0|sl(45|id)|sm(al|ar|b3|it|t5)|so(ft|ny)|sp(01|h\-|v\-|v )|sy(01|mb)|t2(18|50)|t6(00|10|18)|ta(gt|lk)|tcl\-|tdg\-|tel(i|m)|tim\-|t\-mo|to(pl|sh)|ts(70|m\-|m3|m5)|tx\-9|up(\.b|g1|si)|utst|v400|v750|veri|vi(rg|te)|vk(40|5[0-3]|\-v)|vm40|voda|vulc|vx(52|53|60|61|70|80|81|83|85|98)|w3c(\-| )|webc|whit|wi(g |nc|nw)|wmlb|wonu|x700|xda(\-|2|g)|yas\-|your|zeto|zte\-)") { set $mobile_rewrite perform; } if ($mobile_rewrite = perform) { rewrite ^ http://m.mywebsite.com redirect; break; } I got it from http://detectmobilebrowsers.com/ IT WORKS.But none of my images/js/css files load only the HTML. I hope someone can help me! Thank you!

  • Does a 3ware "ECC-ERROR" matter on a JBOD when I have ZFS?

    - by Stefan Lasiewski
    I have a FreeBSD 8.x machine running ZFS and with a 3ware 9690SA controller. The 3ware controller shows an ECC-ERROR with one of the disks: //host> /c0 show VPort Status Unit Size Type Phy Encl-Slot Model ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ p0 OK u0 279.39 GB SAS 0 - SEAGATE ST3300657SS p1 OK u0 279.39 GB SAS 1 - SEAGATE ST3300657SS p2 OK u1 931.51 GB SAS 2 - SEAGATE ST31000640SS p3 ECC-ERROR u2 931.51 GB SAS 3 - SEAGATE ST31000640SS p4 OK u3 931.51 GB SAS 4 - SEAGATE ST31000640SS /c0 show events shows no ECC errors in it's recent history. ZFS does not currently detect any errors. zpool status says No known data errors My question: Is this ECC-ERROR something that I need to be concerned about? According to the 3ware CLI 9.5.2 Manual, an ECC-ERROR means that the 3ware controller caught a read-error for one or more sectors on this drive. This sometimes occurs when a RAID array is recovering from a failed disk. I believe that ECC-ERRORS can also be detected when the 3ware Controller verifies each disk. None of the drives have failed and thus there was no drive rebuild, so I assume that 3ware discovered a bad sector when it ran it's weekly auto-verify scan of the disks. Is this a safe assumption? According to our logs, ZFS has not detected any bad sectors on this drive. ZFS can work around read errors -- if ZFS detects a bad sector on the drive, it will simply mark that sector as bad and never use it again. From the ZFS perspective one bad sector isn't a big deal, although it might indicate that the drive is starting to go bad.

  • running automated fsck on remote server

    - by GriffinHeart
    I had another question about df, and now i came to conclusion i need to run fsck my partition, i've been reading about it and would like some advice, if possible. The situation is like this, no physical access to the server and i want to run fsck. from what i read i just need to touch /forcefsck and when i reboot it will run fsck. My question is, at its basis, with what arguments will the fsck run? Will it need user input to correct errors, etc? and after running will it save a log of what happened? if this was how it ran it would be perfect, anyway of enforcing that on reboot? fsck -v -p /machine/disk/p1 2>&1 > fscklog.txt Also here they describe this: it's also a good idea on debian and debian-derivatives like ubuntu to edit /etc/default/rcS on remote servers and set "FSCKFIX=yes" that adds "-y" to the boot time fsck, so it doesn't risk the remote server being stuck waiting for someone to login at the console and run fsck. But on Centos that doesn't seem to exist I only have ssh access at the moment so that is why i'm being so picky with it. here's some info about disks and mounted volumes on the server: http://pastebin.centos.org/33314 Thanks.

  • Error in Bind9 named.conf file. Bind won't start.

    - by tj111
    I'm trying to setup a DNS server on an Ubuntu Server machine (10.04). I configured an entry in named.conf.local to test it, but when trying to restart bind9 I get the following error: * Starting domain name service... bind9 [fail] So I checked the output of syslog and this is what I get. May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: starting BIND 9.7.0-P1 -u bind May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: built with '--prefix=/usr' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--sysconfdir=/etc/bind' '--localstatedir=/var' '--enable-threads' '--enable-largefile' '--with-libtool' '--enable-shared' '--enable-static' '--with-openssl=/usr' '--with-gssapi=/usr' '--with-gnu-ld' '--with-dlz-postgres=no' '--with-dlz-mysql=no' '--with-dlz-bdb=yes' '--with-dlz-filesystem=yes' '--with-dlz-ldap=yes' '--with-dlz-stub=yes' '--with-geoip=/usr' '--enable-ipv6' 'CFLAGS=-fno-strict-aliasing -DDIG_SIGCHASE -O2' 'LDFLAGS=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions' 'CPPFLAGS=' May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: adjusted limit on open files from 1024 to 1048576 May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: found 4 CPUs, using 4 worker threads May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: using up to 4096 sockets May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: loading configuration from '/etc/bind/named.conf' May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: /etc/bind/named.conf:10: missing ';' before 'include' May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: loading configuration: failure May 20 18:11:13 empression-server1 named[4700]: exiting (due to fatal error) So it thinks I have an error in the default named.conf file, which is pretty ridiculous. I went through it and deleted a blank line just for the hell of it, but I can't see how it figures there's an error in there. Note that before this I did have an error in named.conf.local, but it showed up properly in syslog and I fixed it, so it is reporting the correct file. Here is the contents of named.conf: // This is the primary configuration file for the BIND DNS server named. // // Please read /usr/share/doc/bind9/README.Debian.gz for information on the // structure of BIND configuration files in Debian, *BEFORE* you customize // this configuration file. // // If you are just adding zones, please do that in /etc/bind/named.conf.local include "/etc/bind/named.conf.options"; include "/etc/bind/named.conf.local"; include "/etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones";

  • IIS 6 + ASP.NET web service - DW20 and stackoverflow exception

    - by pcampbell
    Consider an ASP.NET SOAP web service that starts up fine, but craters hard when receiving its first hit. Please note that this is deployment works in the Test environment, but not in the PreProd environment. Both are Windows 2003 SP3 + IIS 6 + ASP.NET 3.5. All up-to-date. The behaviour that we're seeing is: restart the site & app pool the app pool is configured to run under Network Service. browsing to the .asmx and .wsdl responds normally, as expected. send a normal well-formed SOAP request / normal payload to the web service 100% CPU usage after 5 seconds, the page request / site returns "Service Unavailable" no entry is created in the IIS log file (i.e. c:\windows\system32\logfiles\W3C-foo) the app pool ends up being stopped The processes that hit the CPU hard are dw20.exe. I am unsure why Dr Watson is involved here. • bind9 named.conf zones size limit

    - by mox601
    I am trying to set up a test environment on my local machine, and I am trying to start a DNS daemon that loads tha configuration from a named.conf.custom file. As long as the size of that file is like 3-4 zones, the bind9 daemon loads fine, but when i enter the config file i need (like 10000 lines long), bind can't startup and in the syslog i find this message: starting BIND 9.7.0-P1 -u bind Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: built with '--prefix=/usr' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--sysconfdir=/etc/bind' '--localstatedir=/var' '--enable-threads' '--enable-largefile' '--with-libtool' '--enable-shared' '--enable-static' '--with-openssl=/usr' '--with-gssapi=/usr' '--with-gnu-ld' '--with-dlz-postgres=no' '--with-dlz-mysql=no' '--with-dlz-bdb=yes' '--with-dlz-filesystem=yes' '--with-dlz-ldap=yes' '--with-dlz-stub=yes' '--with-geoip=/usr' '--enable-ipv6' 'CFLAGS=-fno-strict-aliasing -DDIG_SIGCHASE -O2' 'LDFLAGS=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions' 'CPPFLAGS=' Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: adjusted limit on open files from 1024 to 1048576 Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: found 1 CPU, using 1 worker thread Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: using up to 4096 sockets Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: loading configuration from '/etc/bind/named.conf' Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: /etc/bind/named.conf.saferinternet:1: unknown option 'zone' Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: loading configuration: failure Jun 14 17:06:06 cibionte-pc named[9785]: exiting (due to fatal error) Are there any limits on the file size bind9 is allowed to load?

  • SQL cluster instance names for large project

    - by Sam
    We're setting up two clusters. One dev and one prod. The Production will host two SQL instances - a OLTP and a DW. The development will host 4 OLTP non-production environments and at least one DW non-production. We're working on getting more DW non-prods and possibly more OLTP systems. I'm considering a naming scheme like this, where PROJ would be 3 initials for the project name. Dev Cluster MSSQLPROJD1\D1 (DEV) MSSQLPROJD2\D2 (TEST) MSSQLPROJD3\D3 (QA) MSSQLPROJD4\D4 (STAGE) MSSQLPROJD5\D5 (DW) Prd Cluster MSSQLPROJP1\P1 (PRD) MSSQLPROJP2\P2 (DW) To the left of the slash, each name must be unique network wide. On each server, the instance name, to the right of the slash, must be unique. Any thoughts on this? I'm trying to avoid having instance names drifting from reality as the project progresses - say we change what we call a certain environment or want to repurpose one. Then we can update a listing of the purposes for the instances and be done with it. How has a scheme like this worked out for you? Maybe you do things another way in your shop - tell me about it. Thanks.

  • Tomato/DD-WRT router to act as switch & only NAT some port

    - by fseto
    BACKGROUND: I have a device that must use a real IP address. Currently, my ISP uses DHCP and I can have up to 4 real IP address assigned. However, the cable modem only have 1 ethernet port and it's connected to my router (running Tomato, but can run DD-wrt or other Openwrt if required). Question stems from how I can connect the additional device, requiring a real IP? EASY SOLUTION: would be to get a switch and connect to the CM, Router, and Device. But alas, I want to avoid this route, since: my wiring cabinet in my home is drawing lots of power and heat already Device will be unprotected by any firewall unable to monitor the traffic to/from device. Besides, what would be the FUN in that? =) IDEA: So what I want to do is to configure the router, so that one of the switchport is removed from the normal br0 bridge. Instead, I want to make it behave like a switch on the WAN port. What's the best way of doing this? Should I create another bridge on the WAN & the device port? Can a single port belongs to two bridges? or would I need to create a subinterface first? Would I need a DHCP-relay? Am I expecting too much from my poor cheapie router? +------+ | CM | +--++--+ || +----WAN---------------+ | / \ Router | | BR1? • Multiple Video Cards - Stuttering

    - by jstawski
    I have two video cards: - XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT XXX 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - EVGA 256-P1-N399-LX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card both running the same set of drivers on Windows 7 64-bit. When I work with 2 monitors connected to the 8600GT card everything works smoothly. When I connect the third one to the 6200 then Windows works well and all of a suddon the screens turns black for up to 5 minutes. Then it goes back and at some random interval it goes black again. I can still see the pointer and hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and see the menu to log off, bring the task manager, etc. I've tried changing the 6200 to another PCI slot and the error persists. I've tried connecting 2 monitors only one to each card, same problem. Tried swapping them, mixed and matched the monitors to see if it was a problem with the monitor and my conclusion was that it is not the monitor. The problem also occurred with Vista 64 as well. What could be generating this problem? Can it be the fact that they are different interfaces? Maybe the Motherboard? Should I change something on the BIOS? What do you guys think?

  • Asus PCE-N53 11n N600 PCI-E Adapter on 3.x kernel

    - by CITguy
    Problem ASUS PCE-N53 wireless NIC doesn't work for latest versions of the linux kernel. How do I get it working on my system? (Note: I'm posting the answer I've found for others to use.) Installing Driver for Linux 3.x Kernel ASUS provides Linux drivers from their website, but it mentions that the driver supports "Linux Kernel 2.6.x", so it won't work without a some modifications to the driver code. Fortunately, an archlinux forum mentions similar problems and one user was able to create a patch for kernel 3.8.x that seems to work with kernel 3.11.x. Here's how I got it working: Prerequisites Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install build-essential Arch: sudo pacman -S base-devel Steps: 1. Download the driver from the ASUS website The download can be found under "Support Drivers & Tools". 2. Unzip the contents of the downloaded file cd into the new directory 3. Patch The arch forum mentions a 3.8 patch file that needs to be downloaded. Download rt5592sta_fix_64bit_3.8.patch to the current directory. tar -xvf {driver_source.tar.gz} cd into the directory created in previous step patch -p1 < ../rt5592sta_fix_64bit_3.8.patch 4. Compile NOTE: You will need to use sudo for it to compile properly. sudo make sudo make install sudo modprobe rt5592sta 5. Enjoy If all is well, you should now have a working card.

  • Do I need to update some of my Debian Squeeze software?

    - by stan31337
    I have installed Debian 6, and LAMP stack from squeeze repository (default). After upgrading Apache 2.2.16 from unstable repository to 2.2.22, thanks to this post - how to upgrade already installed apache2 on debian (lenny) I'm thinking to upgrade all other software packages that I've previously installd from squeeze repository. Should I upgrade them to the ones from unstable repository? Should I upgrade all of them or just selected ones? Here's the list: * arno-iptables-firewall 1.9.2.k-4 >> 2.0.1.c-1 * bind9 1:9.7.3.dfsg-1~squeeze6 >> 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4.2 * php-apc 3.1.3p1-2 >> 3.1.13-1 * fail2ban 0.8.4-3+squeeze1 >> 0.8.6-3 * exim4 4.72-6+squeeze2 >> 4.80-4 * altermime 0.3.10-4 >> 0.3.10-7 * rrdtool 1.4.3-1 >> 1.4.7-2 * vsftpd 2.3.2-3+squeeze2 >> 3.0.0-4 Also I would like to ask how to upgrade 5.3.3 5.3.16, unstable repository has 5.4.x versions only, I don't think I'm ready to move from 5.3 to 5.4 yet. Actually I'm a newbie in Linux, and after Windows experience I have a paranoidal idea to update software to the latest release. I'd be glad for any suggestions and recommendations! Thank you very much!

  • Seagate 3TB hard drive loses format information

    - by Victor Bugarin
    I have a Windows 7x64 Ultimate, 6 GB memory, 1 TB HD. 3TB Barracuda XT HDD. The HDD is installed on a StarTech 4 bays external enclosure I had troubles so I converted to a GPT, created 1 partition and formatted as NTFS. The hard drive I can write and read to and from the hard drive but it will become unreadable at some point while I am copying files or after I have copied files to it. I have copied large Bluray movies and diverse video files, I have also copied 32 GB of pictures, and I have copied about 86 thousand music files in different formats. At some point the partition becomes unreadable and I have to format the partition again (all files lost) and I have to start the whole process again. At some point I have been unable to copy large ISO (Bluray movies) file images. I have partitioned the HDD in 2 partitions P1 - 2TB, P2 - 1TB and I have lost every single file in either partition the same way. I reformat the HDD and it seems fine. I have run seatools to check the hard drive and it reports to be OK. What gives?

  • problem solving [closed]

    - by Suresh S
    Problem Statement The Sports Associations in India (SAI) wants to choose 2 teams of 4 people each to send to Asian games. There are 13 people who want to be members of the teams. The SAI tries grouping them in various ways to see which athletes perform well together. Each grouping gets one test run on the test track and their time is recorded. Your task is to help the SAI choose two disjoint teams of 4 such that the sum of their practice times is minimal. Input There will be several input instances. The first line of each instance gives the total number of practice runs. This will be followed by n lines. Each of those lines will contain 5 numbers: p1 p2 p3 p4 t t is the time taken (in milliseconds) by the team consisting of p1, p2, p3 and p4. The time taken will not be more than 2 minutes. The end of the input will be indicated by a line with n=0. Output Output the best total and the two teams that you choose. If it is impossible to choose two disjoint teams from the test runs given, output -1. - by user557015
    Hi, I'm new to PHP, and i'm making a forum. all the files work except one file, add_topic.php. It gives me an error saying: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/a3885465/public_html/add_topic.php on line 25 I know it is probably on the lines: </span>}<span class="s4"><br> </span>else{<span class="s4"><br> </span>echo "ERROR";<span class="s4"><br> </span>}<span class="s4"><br> </span>mysql_close();<span class="s4"><br> but the whole code is below just in case. • Getting segmentaion fault after destructor

    - by therealsquiggy
    I'm making a small file reading and data validation program as part of my TAFE (a tertiary college) course, This includes checking and validating dates. I decided that it would be best done with a seperate class, rather than integrating it into my main driver class. The problem is that I'm getting a segmentation fault(core dumped) after my test program runs. Near as I can tell, the error occurs when the program terminates, popping up after the destructor is called. So far I have had no luck finding the cause of this fault, and was hoping that some enlightened soul might show me the error of my ways. date.h #ifndef DATE_H #define DATE_H #include <string> using std::string; #include <sstream> using std::stringstream; #include <cstdlib> using std::exit; #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; class date { public: explicit date(); ~date(); bool before(string dateIn1, string dateIn2); int yearsBetween(string dateIn1, string dateIn2); bool isValid(string dateIn); bool getDate(int date[], string dateIn); bool isLeapYear(int year); private: int days[]; }; #endif date.cpp #include "date.h" date::date() { days[0] = 31; days[1] = 28; days[2] = 31; days[3] = 30; days[4] = 31; days[5] = 30; days[6] = 31; days[7] = 31; days[8] = 30; days[9] = 31; days[10] = 30; days[11] = 31; } bool date::before(string dateIn1, string dateIn2) { int date1[3]; int date2[3]; getDate(date1, dateIn1); getDate(date2, dateIn2); if (date1[2] < date2[2]) { return true; } else if (date1[1] < date2[1]) { return true; } else if (date1[0] < date2[0]) { return true; } return false; } date::~date() { cout << "this is for testing only, plox delete\n"; } int date::yearsBetween(string dateIn1, string dateIn2) { int date1[3]; int date2[3]; getDate(date1, dateIn1); getDate(date2, dateIn2); int years = date2[2] - date1[2]; if (date1[1] > date2[1]) { years--; } if ((date1[1] == date2[1]) && (date1[0] > date2[1])) { years--; } return years; } bool date::isValid(string dateIn) { int date[3]; if (getDate(date, dateIn)) { if (date[1] <= 12) { int extraDay = 0; if (isLeapYear(date[2])) { extraDay++; } if ((date[0] + extraDay) <= days[date[1] - 1]) { return true; } } } else { return false; } } bool date::getDate(int date[], string dateIn) { string part1, part2, part3; size_t whereIs, lastFound; whereIs = dateIn.find("/"); part1 = dateIn.substr(0, whereIs); lastFound = whereIs + 1; whereIs = dateIn.find("/", lastFound); part2 = dateIn.substr(lastFound, whereIs - lastFound); lastFound = whereIs + 1; part3 = dateIn.substr(lastFound, 4); stringstream p1(part1); stringstream p2(part2); stringstream p3(part3); if (p1 >> date[0]) { if (p2>>date[1]) { return (p3>>date[2]); } else { return false; } return false; } } bool date::isLeapYear(int year) { return ((year % 4) == 0); } and Finally, the test program #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; #include "date.h" int main() { date d; cout << "1/1/1988 before 3/5/1990 [" << d.before("1/1/1988", "3/5/1990") << "]\n1/1/1988 before 1/1/1970 [" << d.before("a/a/1988", "1/1/1970") <<"]\n"; cout << "years between 1/1/1988 and 1/1/1998 [" << d.yearsBetween("1/1/1988", "1/1/1998") << "]\n"; cout << "is 1/1/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("1/1/1988") << "]\n" << "is 2/13/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("2/13/1988") << "]\n" << "is 32/12/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("32/12/1988") << "]\n"; cout << "blerg\n"; } I've left in some extraneous cout statements, which I've been using to try and locate the error. I thank you in advance.

So far I have had no luck finding the cause of this fault, and was hoping that some enlightened soul might show me the error of my ways. date.h #ifndef DATE_H #define DATE_H #include <string> using std::string; #include <sstream> using std::stringstream; #include <cstdlib> using std::exit; #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; class date { public: explicit date(); ~date(); bool before(string dateIn1, string dateIn2); int yearsBetween(string dateIn1, string dateIn2); bool isValid(string dateIn); bool getDate(int date[], string dateIn); bool isLeapYear(int year); private: int days[]; }; #endif date.cpp #include "date.h" date::date() { days[0] = 31; days[1] = 28; days[2] = 31; days[3] = 30; days[4] = 31; days[5] = 30; days[6] = 31; days[7] = 31; days[8] = 30; days[9] = 31; days[10] = 30; days[11] = 31; } bool date::before(string dateIn1, string dateIn2) { int date1[3]; int date2[3]; getDate(date1, dateIn1); getDate(date2, dateIn2); if (date1[2] < date2[2]) { return true; } else if (date1[1] < date2[1]) { return true; } else if (date1[0] < date2[0]) { return true; } return false; } date::~date() { cout << "this is for testing only, plox delete\n"; } int date::yearsBetween(string dateIn1, string dateIn2) { int date1[3]; int date2[3]; getDate(date1, dateIn1); getDate(date2, dateIn2); int years = date2[2] - date1[2]; if (date1[1] > date2[1]) { years--; } if ((date1[1] == date2[1]) && (date1[0] > date2[1])) { years--; } return years; } bool date::isValid(string dateIn) { int date[3]; if (getDate(date, dateIn)) { if (date[1] <= 12) { int extraDay = 0; if (isLeapYear(date[2])) { extraDay++; } if ((date[0] + extraDay) <= days[date[1] - 1]) { return true; } } } else { return false; } } bool date::getDate(int date[], string dateIn) { string part1, part2, part3; size_t whereIs, lastFound; whereIs = dateIn.find("/"); part1 = dateIn.substr(0, whereIs); lastFound = whereIs + 1; whereIs = dateIn.find("/", lastFound); part2 = dateIn.substr(lastFound, whereIs - lastFound); lastFound = whereIs + 1; part3 = dateIn.substr(lastFound, 4); stringstream p1(part1); stringstream p2(part2); stringstream p3(part3); if (p1 >> date[0]) { if (p2>>date[1]) { return (p3>>date[2]); } else { return false; } return false; } } bool date::isLeapYear(int year) { return ((year % 4) == 0); } and Finally, the test program #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; #include "date.h" int main() { date d; cout << "1/1/1988 before 3/5/1990 [" << d.before("1/1/1988", "3/5/1990") << "]\n1/1/1988 before 1/1/1970 [" << d.before("a/a/1988", "1/1/1970") <<"]\n"; cout << "years between 1/1/1988 and 1/1/1998 [" << d.yearsBetween("1/1/1988", "1/1/1998") << "]\n"; cout << "is 1/1/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("1/1/1988") << "]\n" << "is 2/13/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("2/13/1988") << "]\n" << "is 32/12/1988 valid [" << d.isValid("32/12/1988") << "]\n"; cout << "blerg\n"; } I've left in some extraneous cout statements, which I've been using to try and locate the error. I thank you in advance.

  • Problem with java and conditional (game of life)

    - by Muad'Dib
    Hello everybody, I'm trying to implement The Game of Life in java, as an exercise to learn this language. Unfortunately I have a problem, as I don't seem able to make this program run correctly. I implemented a torodial sum (the plane is a donut) with no problem: int SumNeighbours (int i, int j) { int value = 0; value = world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][( j - 1 + column ) % column]+world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][j]+world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][( j + 1 ) % column]; value = value + world[i][( j - 1 + column ) % column] + world[i][( j + 1 ) % column]; value = value + world[( i + 1 ) % row][( j - 1 + column ) % column] + world[( i + 1 ) % row][j]+world[ ( i+1 ) % row ][( j + 1 ) % column]; return value; } And it sums correctly when I test it: void NextWorldTest () { int count; int [][] nextWorld = new int[row][row]; nextWorld = world; for (int i=0; i<row; i++) { for (int j=0; j<column; j++) { count = SumNeighbours(i,j); System.out.print(" " + count + " "); } System.out.println(); } world=nextWorld; } Unfortunately when I add the conditions of game of life (born/death) the program stop working correctly, as it seems not able anymore to count correctly the alive cells in the neighborhood. It counts where there are none, and it doesn't count when there are some. E.g.: it doesn't count the one below some living cells. It's a very odd behaviour, and it's been giving me a headache for 3 days now... maybe I'm missing something basic about variables? Here you can find the class. void NextWorld () { int count; int [][] nextWorld = new int[row][column]; nextWorld = world; for (int i=0; i<row; i++) { for (int j=0; j<column; j++) { count = SumNeighbours(i,j); System.out.print(" " + count + " "); if ( ( world[i][j] == 0) && ( count == 3 ) ) { nextWorld[i][j] = 1; } else if ( ( world[i][j] == 1 ) && ( (count == 3) || (count == 2) )) { nextWorld[i][j] = 1; } else { nextWorld[i][j]=0; } } System.out.println(); } world=nextWorld; } } Am I doing something wrong? Below you can find the full package. package com.GaOL; public class GameWorld { int [][] world; int row; int column; public int GetRow() { return row; } public int GetColumn() { return column; } public int GetWorld (int i, int j) { return world[i][j]; } void RandomGen (int size, double p1) { double randomCell; row = size; column = size; world = new int[row][column]; for (int i = 0; i<row; i++ ) { for (int j = 0; j<column; j++ ) { randomCell=Math.random(); if (randomCell < 1-p1) { world[i][j] = 0; } else { world[i][j] = 1; } } } } void printToConsole() { double test = 0; for (int i=0; i<row; i++) { for (int j=0; j<column; j++) { if ( world[i][j] == 0 ) { System.out.print(" "); } else { System.out.print(" * "); test++; } } System.out.println(""); } System.out.println("ratio is " + test/(row*column)); } int SumNeighbours (int i, int j) { int value = 0; value = world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][( j - 1 + column ) % column]+world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][j]+world[( i - 1 + row ) % row][( j + 1 ) % column]; value = value + world[i][( j - 1 + column ) % column] + world[i][( j + 1 ) % column]; value = value + world[( i + 1 ) % row][( j - 1 + column ) % column] + world[( i + 1 ) % row][j]+world[ ( i+1 ) % row ][( j + 1 ) % column]; return value; } void NextWorldTest () { int count; int [][] nextWorld = new int[row][row]; nextWorld = world; for (int i=0; i<row; i++) { for (int j=0; j<column; j++) { count = SumNeighbours(i,j); System.out.print(" " + count + " "); } System.out.println(); } world=nextWorld; } void NextWorld () { int count; int [][] nextWorld = new int[row][column]; nextWorld = world; for (int i=0; i<row; i++) { for (int j=0; j<column; j++) { count = SumNeighbours(i,j); System.out.print(" " + count + " "); if ( ( world[i][j] == 0) && ( count == 3 ) ) { nextWorld[i][j] = 1; } else if ( ( world[i][j] == 1 ) && ( (count == 3) || (count == 2) )) { nextWorld[i][j] = 1; } else { nextWorld[i][j]=0; } } System.out.println(); } world=nextWorld; } } and here the test class: package com.GaOL; public class GameTestClass { public static void main(String[] args) { GameWorld prova = new GameWorld(); prova.RandomGen(10, 0.02); for (int i=0; i<3; i++) { prova.printToConsole(); prova.NextWorld(); } } }

  • .Net Windows Service Throws EventType clr20r3 system.data.sqlclient.sql error

    - by William Edmondson
    I have a .Net/c# 2.0 windows service. The entry point is wrapped in a try catch block yet when I look at the server's application event log I seem a number of "EventType clr20r3" errors that are causing the service to die unexpectedly. The catch block has a "catch (Exception ex)". Each sql commands is of the type "CommandType.StoredProcedure" and are executed with SqlDataReader's. These sproc calls function correctly 99% of time and have all been thoroughly unit tested, profiled, and QA'd. I additionally wrapped these calls in try catch blocks just to be sure and am still experiencing these unhandled exceptions. This only in our production environment and cannot be duplicated in our dev or staging environments (even under heavy load). Why would my error handling not catch this particular error? Is there anyway to capture more detail as to the root cause of the problem? Here is an example of the event log: EventType clr20r3, P1 RDC.OrderProcessorService, P2 1.0.0.0, P3 4ae6a0d0, P4 system.data, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4889deaf, P7 2490, P8 2c, P9 system.data.sqlclient.sql, P10 NIL. Additionally The Order Processor service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

  • How to pass SOAP headers into python SUDS that are not defined in WSDL file

    - by chrissygormley
    Hello, I have a camera on my network, I am trying to connect to it with suds but suds doesn't send all the information needed. I need to put extra soap headers not defined in the WSDL file so the camera can understand the message. All the headers are contained in a SOAP envelope and then the suds command be in the body of the message. I have checked the suds website and it says to pass in the headers like so: from suds.sax.element import Element client = client(url) ssnns = ('ssn', 'http://namespaces/sessionid') ssn = Element('SessionID', ns=ssnns).setText('123') client.set_options(soapheaders=ssn) result = client.service.addPerson(person) Now I am not sure how I would implement this, say for example I have the below header: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" xmlns:SOAP ENC="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-encoding" xmlns:p1="http://www.website.org/ver10/p/wsdl"> .<SOAP-ENV:Header> Using this or a similar example does anyone know hos I would get this passed into the soap command so my camera understands? Thanks
