  • Time Machine is getting stuck at "Preparing to Back Up" and my Trash isn't emptying

    I have encountered two separate problems, but I am putting them in the same question in case they are related. First, my Trash would not empty. It seems to be getting stuck on certain files, because I will reset my Macbook and some of the files will be deleted, and then if I remove a file or two at random, more can be deleted. Some of these files had strange characters in their names. I tried changing the names to single characters, but this did not help. Next, I attempted to backup my Macbook using Time Machine. I plugged in the HDD I've been using for this, but every time I try to start the backup, Time Machine gets stuck at "Preparing to Back Up". I definitely need to know how to fix the Time Machine problem, but I am curious how to solve the trash problem as well, and whether or not these problems are related. EDIT: Console.app logged the following this morning before I left on a trip.   • mod_perl custom configuration directives don't work when placed in .htaccess and there is <Location>

    I'm trying to complete Redmine's feature request #2693: Use Redmine.pm to authenticate for any directory (1). I have not much knowledge on all these things and need help. Redmine uses mod_perl module Redmine.pm for authentication & authorization. This module defines several custom configuration directives. I've successfully modified patch from (1) and it works when all config is in <Location>: <Location /digischrank/test> AuthType basic AuthName "Digischrank Test" Require valid-user PerlAccessHandler Apache::Authn::Redmine::access_handler PerlAuthenHandler Apache::Authn::Redmine::authen_handler RedmineDSN "DBI:mysql:database=SomedaTaBAse;host=localhost" RedmineDbUser "SoMeuSer" RedmineDbPass "SomePaSS" RedmineProject "digischrank" </Location> But when I move one of these directives (RedmineProject, see (1)) in .htaccess file, Redmine.pm doesn't see it! I've tried to change <Location> to <Directory> and add AllowOverride All. Directives from .htaccess is visible, but remaining ones from <Directory> - not. I don't want to move all directives to each .htaccess. When I add <Location> in addition to <Directory>, again - only directives from <Location> are visible. As far as I know, directives should be merged. I miss something?

And, after researching a bit in the internets, I also tried the following, with no luck: G:\>del \\?\G:\Z_DRIVE\workspaces\google-gson-1.7.1-release.zip The system cannot find the file specified. Other than booting from some Linux CD, is there a way to get rid of this file?   • Running Solr on VPS problem

    I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different.   • Folder with files shows as empty

    Last night I create a new project in Visual Studio 2010, in the folder c:\development\hobby\devices. When I navigate to that folder in a new instance of Windows Explorer, I get the 'This folder is empty.' message in the files pane. If I then, from within Visual Studio, issue the "Open containing folder command", explorer opens to the folder c:\development\hobby\devices\LoopBack, where loopback is a project under the main folder. If I paste that path into another new instance of explorer, explorer correctly opens c:\development\hobby\devices. How is this possible? SOLVED: This is what comes of typing paths instead of selecting them. Some elementary detective work yielded the following interesting results: C:\>dir dev*.     In SDK 1.5 I was using the PackageManager class to set the preferred home screen to be my app using PackageManager.addPackageToPreferred(). In the new SDK (using 2.1) this has been deprecated so I'm trying to use addPreferredActivity() for the same result but it's not working as expected. Some necessary background. I'm writing a lock screen replacement app so I want the home key to launch my app (which will already be running, hence having the effect of disabling the key). When the user "unlocks" the screen I intend to restore the mapping so everything works as normal. In my AndroidManifest.xml I have: <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.HOME"/> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_PREFERRED_APPLICATIONS"> </uses-permission> In my code I have the following snippet: // Set as home activity // This is done so we can appear to disable the Home key. Here's the situation: I can run Report Builder from localhost My coworker can run Report Builder on his Vista computer Another coworker can run Report Builder on his XP SP3 computer (IE7) I can NOT run Report Builder on my XP SP3 computer (IE7) I'm told that it could be anything from an errant registry entry to a group policy problem.   • Moose::Error::Croak error reporting not from perspective of caller.

    I just recently started out on Moose and its a great OO framework not only to use but also to learn new OO concepts. One of the things I wanted to do was to do error reporting from perspective of caller during object creation. I saw that Moose has the module Moose::Error::Croak which tells Moose to override the default error reporting by croak call. I used it but it did not seem to help Moose code - Foo.pm package Foo; use metaclass ( metaclass => 'Moose::Meta::Class', error_class => 'Moose::Error::Croak', ); use Moose; has 'attr1' => ( is => 'rw', isa => 'Str', required => '1', ); no Moose; 1; Moose code - fooser.pl #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; use Foo; my $foobj = Foo->new(); This fails with error: Attribute (attr1) is required at /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/Class/MOP/Class.pm line 364 which is terse than the actual stack trace if Moose::Error::Croak is not used. But it does not report it from perspective of caller.   • How do the versions of Guava work?

    I would like to use Guava in a project, but my PM doesn't like the "r05" suffix, saying that it looks like it's not stable. In fact, the part I need is only the Google-Collections 1.0 which is now deprecated (my PM doesn't like that word either). So I don't really get the versioning of Guava/Google-Collections. I'm currently doing the development with GC1.0, but if possible I'll switch to a more recent and stable version.

    I want to convert a string like this: '10/15/2008 10:06:32 PM' into the equivalent DATETIME value in Sql Server. In Oracle, I would say this: TO_DATE('10/15/2008 10:06:32 PM','MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AM') This question implies that I must parse the string into one of the standard formats, and then convert using one of those codes. That seems ludicrous for such a mundane operation. Is there an easier way?

    In the source code of the Perl module CGI.pm, in the submodule CGI::Cookies.pm, there is the following line: $raw_cookie = $ENV{HTTP_COOKIE} || $ENV{COOKIE}; I'm interested in $ENV{COOKIE} here. Are there any web servers (obsolete or otherwise) which transmit cookie information using the COOKIE environment variable instead of the HTTP_COOKIE used by Apache? I've never seen COOKIE and other CGI libraries don't seem to support it.

    .Net has the built in ToShortDateString() function for DateTime that uses the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortTimePattern format. It returns something like this for en-US: "5:00 pm". For a 24 hour culture such as de-DE it would return "17:00". What I want is a way to just return just the hour (So "5 pm" and "17" in the cases above) that works with every culture. What's the best/cleanest way to do this? Thanks!

Basically I want to keep the 0, for example time is 05:03:20 PM I don't want it to show like 5:3:20 PM Any ideas?
