• Best aproach for multi-page WPF application

  How do i create multislide application in WPF? What is beast approach? What i need is something very similar to having tabcontrol with multiple pages and navigation buttons bellow, but i dont think that tab control is best for this task. I would like to have each view to be in seperate .xaml + class file. AND- it would be cool to have some animiation, when navigating to another page (like old page slides away or something like that. What would be best technique to achieve this?

• getting an embedded resource in a single dll made up of multiple class libraries

  my solution has multiple projects and in one of them I have the code to get the embedded resource (an xml file) from another project. All this works fine when all the projects are seperate. However when all the class libraries are embedded into a single dll, the code to get the resource file does not work i.e. it cannot get the emebedded resource. I was wondering if the references to the emebedded resource get mixed up when they are combined together in a single dll?? I use the method Assembly.GetCallingAssembly().GetManifestResourceStream("namespace..filename");

• Sporadic name resolution failure happening on web service call

  One of our wcf service applications calls a seperate third party web service to submit information. We are getting the following error every so often, but not all the time: System.Net.WebException: The remote name could not be resolved: 'ws.examplesite.net' at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) The wierd thing is that after the error happens, we can hit "Submit" again a second later and it will go through just fine. We have checked and double checked with our network guys and they have confirmed that DNS is correct, and they have done multiple nslookups in a row to confirm. This is happening in all environments (dev, test and prod). We use the third party test and prod urls, and it is happening when we point to both. Does anyone have any other trouble shooting techniques for this or any reason this would happen? Much thanks, ~Ansley

  Hi, I just downloaded xcode 3.2.3 (seperate directory installation) and ios 4 to my iphone. I'm having a problem with networkActivityIndicatorVisible. This works on 3.1.3, both phone and simulator. My code is (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; UIApplication* app2 = [UIApplication sharedApplication]; app2.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; [self loadSources]; // Loads data in table view app2.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; } I get the same effect in the simulator and on the phone both with ios 4.o The networkActivity indicator becomes visible for a fraction of a second and then invisible and this is done after loading the data for the tableView.   Hello everybody. I am creating a simple Changelog lib in CodeIgniter that will basically log a message everytime someone adds, deletes, changes or publish a blog post. I will log messages in files by batches of 300. So every 301st message will go in a new file. At first I wanted to write the logs to simple .log files but then I got the idea to actually style the thing and I had to seperate each "attribute" of each message (ie: the user, the message, the type of the log, etc.). So .log files are out of the question since extracting the info would be a pain. What is the most appropriate format for such a task? I already ruled out MySQL and XML because they are too heavy (especially considering that the log files won't exceed (about) 300 lines). I suggested YAML vs JSON vs CSV in the title, but is there yet a better alternative?

• why use branches in svn?

  i know that you could organize your files according to this structure in svn: trunk branches tags that you copy the trunk to a folder in branches if you want to have a seperate development line. later on you merge this branch back to trunk. but i wonder why me and my group should do this. why should one copy the trunk to a branch and work with this copy just to merge it back to the trunk, and mean while the code is frequently updated/commited to stay in sync with the trunk. why not just work with the trunk then? what is the benefits with creating a branch? would be great if someone could shed a light on this topic. thanks in advance

• Building TimeZone object in Java

  I build a Java TimeZone object using the TimeZone String like GMT-8,GMT,PST,EST etc. This did not consider whether the timezone is daylight saving enabled or not.Now there is a requirement to include this check and instead of giving the input as PDT or EDT the daylight saving is given as a seperate flag.I am not sure whether TimeZone has a direct method to change the dayLight saving property of that TimeZone. So if I get an input like PST and DaylightSaving as true then I have to change the string as PDT.Whats even worse is sometimes I will get inputs like GMT-8 or GMT-6 with Day light flag as either true or false. Is there a way out ? • Is it possible to find the KNN for a node that is *IN* the KD-tree?

  Hi there, Trying to create a KNN search using a KD-tree. I can form the KD-tree fine (or at least, I believe I can!). My problem is that I am searching to find the closest 2 neighbours to every point in a list of points. So, is there a method to find the K nearest neighbours to a point using a KD tree even if the point is actually IN the tree, or do I need to construct a seperate KD tree for each point, leaving out the point that I wish to search for? My implementation language is C++, but I am more looking for either an algorithm or general help, thanks! Thanks, Stephen

• Script stops while waiting for user input from STDIN.gets

  I'm trying to do something like this, where I have two loops going in seperate threads. The problem I am having is that in the main thread, when I use gets and the script is waiting for user input, the other thread is stopped to wait as well. class Server def initialize() @server = TCPServer.new(8080) run end def run() @thread = Thread.new(@server) { |server| while true newsock = server.accept puts "some stuff after accept!" next if !newsock # some other stuff end } end end def processCommand() # some user commands here end test = Server.new while true do processCommand(STDIN.gets) end The above is just a sample of what I want to do. • Where to start on creating finger swipe navigation in an collection of items

  Lets say I want to make a control to select any integer number by dragging on a "bar" with numbers: (156 is selected) Mousedown on "159" and dragging towards the left and then doing mouseup changes the control to this: (160 is selected) I've been experimenting for the past 3 hours but I'm inexperienced in Silverlight so I'm having problems getting started. My current guess is I should seperate this into 2 steps: Step 1: Build this control without swiping behavior. Just 2 buttons to go up a number or go down a number Step 2: Replace the buttons by handling mouse events. With my limited knowledge I think I would manage building a crappy control that does this, with very messy xaml and c# and lots of headaches when trying to apply styling and fancy state transitions, but I was hoping some xaml wizards could get me started with the basic approach?   Hello, I have a Page.xaml file and a AddNewProject.xaml. In the Page.xaml file I have a ProjectDetailsDataGrid and a button to add a new Project. When I click on the Add New Project button the AddNewProject.xaml file becomes visible for the user to enter new project information. I am having a problem trying to refresh the ProjectDetailsDataGrid (on the Page.xaml page) to display the new info. entered from the AddNewProject.xaml page. Is there anyway to accomplish refreshing a datagrid between two seperate xaml files? Thank you for your help.

• Assignment in python for loop possible?

  I have a dictionary d (and a seperate sorted list of keys, keys). I wanted the loop to only process entries where the value is False - so i tried the following: for key in keys and not d[key]: #do foo I suppose my understanding of python sytax is not what i thought it was - because the assignment doesnt suppose to have happened above, and a i get an instanciation error.   Hi, I need to know if a JPanel`s bacground can be set to Transparent? My frame is has two Jpanels Image Panel and Feature Panel, Feature Panel is overlapping Image Panel, the Image Panel is working as a background and it is loading image from a remote Url, now I want to draw shaps on Feature Panel , but now Image Panel cannot be seen due to Feature Panel's background color. I need to make Feature Panel background transparent while still drawing its shapes and i want Image Panel to be visible since it is doing tiling and cache function of images. I need to seperate the image drawing and shape drawing thats why I`m using two jPanels! is there anyway the overlapping Jpanel have a transparent background? thanks

• 301 versus inline rewrites

  I'm in the process of adding 'pretty' URLs to an existing CMS, the menu is auto generated and the new 'pretty' URLs are to be handled independently as a seperate module. The auto-generated menu allways has URLs that look like this index.php?menu_id=n which ofcourse we would like to see as eg. /news or /products I'm currently at the point where I have to decide if I'm going to rewrite all output of the current system or simply put in a hook where I redirect to the 'pretty' URL. To put it differently, should i connect to the database, fetch all 'pretty' URLs, run through the existing output from WYSIWYG's, news modules, forums etc. and do some str_replace or other string manipulation (which I think would be a rather tedious and boring process), or should I simply hook in and throw a 301 redirecting index.php?menu_id=3 to /news will Google (or other search engines) penalize me for having 301's in the menus?

• Quick question regarding CSS sprites and memory usage

  Well, it's more to do with images and memory in general. If I use the same image multiple times on a page, will each image be consolidated in memory? Or will each image use a seperate amount of memory? I'm concerned about this because I'm building a skinning system for a Windows Desktop Gadget, and I'm looking at spriting the images in the default skin so that I can keep the file system looking clean. At the same time I want to try and keep the memory footprint to a minimum. If I end up with a single file containing 100 images and re-use that image 100 times across the gadget I don't want to have performance issues. Cheers.

  I've been tasked with writing a new webapp in javaEE, which will be a first for me. I'm familar with the java language, but all of my previous projects have been in .net. So I've downloaded netbeans and I'll probably be using Hibernate, and started digging in. My question is, what's the best way to lay out a javaEE app? Should all data access go through netbeans? I was told to use webservices as much as possible so it's easy to pull data in and out of the system, and I've read through tutorials that create webservices in a seperate web application, as compared to the javaEE enterprise application. Is that really the way it's supposed to work? Just trying to wrap my head around this as compared to what I'm used to in .net. Thanks!

  I'm trying to debug some STL based C++ code in gdb. The code has something like int myfunc() { std::map<int,int> m; ... } Now in gdb, inside myfunc using "print m" gives something very ugly. What I've seen recommended is compiling something like void printmap( std::map<int,int> m ) { for( std::map<int,int>::iterator it = ... ) { printf("%d : %d", it->first, it->second ); } } Then in gdb doing (gdb) call printmap( m ) This seems like a good way to handle the issue... but can I put printmap into a seperate object file (or even dynamic library) that I then load into gdb at runtime rather than compiling it into my binary - as recompiling the binary every time I want to look at another STL variable is not fun .. while compiling and loading a single .o file for the print routine may be acceptable.

• External config file to be used by multiple DLLs.

  Hi, I have multiple DLLs that are used to read/write data into my database. There is a presentation layer DLL and a data access layer DLL. I want these DLLs to share a set of the connection strings. My idea is to store the connection string in a seperate DLL in the external configuration file. I'm not sure whether it's a good idea and whether I can reference that external DLL in both presentation and data access layers. The other question is whether I should write a helper class to read the data from the external config file or whether I should be using built in .Net methods? Thank you

• Definition could not be found error compiling ClassReference in CSS file to Swf file

  Hi All I am compiling my css files to swf files and loading them at run time. I have no problem compiling these and using ClassReference statements most of the time: .miniCashLadderGridStyle { color : #2a2a2a; backgroundAlpha : 0; borderSkin : ClassReference("mx.skins.ProgrammaticSkin"); headerSortSeparatorSkin : ClassReference("mx.skins.ProgrammaticSkin"); horizontalSeparatorSkin : ClassReference("company.assets.GridHorzDivLine"); verticalSeparatorSkin : ClassReference("company.assets.GridVertDivLine"); } That works fine. The assets come from a seperate swc, However this: header-background-skin : ClassReference("company.view.grid.skin.HeaderBackground"); Does not work. The difference is that the HeaderBackground is a class in the same project as the css file. That does compiel fine if I move the style into my mxml file though. I wonder if the compiler uses different source paths when compiling the css fiels or something. This is in FlashBuilder 4 build 269271 SDK 13963

• 2 large databases - worth merging into 1?

  I have 2 large databases that were sharded before. I now have removed the sharding and have created a new database with all of the data except for the tables that were originally sharded. Is it worth importing this data into the new database, or keeping them as seperate entities that I can just scan through? We are talking around 60million records in each sharded table, of which there are 2 tables. Also, whilst I have an empty table, should I be adding indexes which weren't thought of when the database was originally constructed and now too large to add them?

• DBD::Advantage and 64-bit Perl - Always 6060

  I realize that I am attempting to go beyond the "supported" behavior of the manf's released drivers for perl, after all they have only released it in package with x86 .so's. However, since I cannot use their package with x64 Perl on a RHEL 5.4 x86_64 box, and maintaining a seperate install of x86 perl just for this one package, I have made an attempt to get this puppy working thanks to released 64-bit .so's that accompany other driver packages for Advantage. What I have done to this point: download beta 10 DBI drivers, in 32 download beta 10 PHP extension (it contains 32 and x86_64) copy the required DLLs into the ads-lib location (eg /usr/local/ads/lib64) compile the Perl DBI driver with the path to the lib64's .so's Good compilation, good install, good use. The problem is that I always get : failed: [iAnywhere Solutions][Advantage SQL][ASA] Error 6060: Advantage Database Server not available on specified server. axServerConnect (SQL-HY000)(DBD: db_login/SQLConnect err=-1) Does anyone have any ideas?
