  I don't know much about secure certificates, so please bear with me... I've got a webserver that has a single domain SSL certificate https://secure.mysite.com I also have a couple of subdomains that point to different servers. http://www.mysite.com ( main server) http://subdomain.mysite.com (completely different server) I am wondering: What is the best way to add SSL to the subdomain: https://subdomain.mysite.com Is it possible to configure something like this with a wildcard certificate? Or is it better to purchase another single-domain certificate and install it on the seperate server? Are there any special considerations / pitfalls in doing something like this? • iPhone checklist app

  I am trying to create a simple app that displays a list of items with check boxes next to each item, then give the user to simply check each box. Nothing (aside from the checkbox image switching) needs to happen when the check box is touched. Each checklist is a seperate NSDictionary contained in a single master NSDictionary. The checklist dictionary contains arrays for different sections of each checklist. At the top of the view, the user selects which set (dictionary) of checklists they want to open then I want that checklist to display underneath the picker once a "select checklist" button is pressed. Any ideas on the best way to get this done?

• How to secure authiorization of methods

  I am building a web site in C# using MVC.Net How can I secure that no unauthorized persons can access my methods? What I mean is that I want to make sure that only admins can create articles on my page. If I put this logic in the method actually adding this to the database, wouldn't I have business logic in my data layer? Is it a good practise to have a seperate security layer that is always in between of the data layer and the business layer to make? The problem is that if I protect at a higher level I will have to have checks on many places and it is more likely that I miss one place and users can bypass security. Thanks!

• AJAX: Statusbar: force update of UpdatePanel while function executes

  Hi Guys, I have a label inside an update panel which I wouldl ike to use as a status bar. Basically the user clicks a button which executes a main fucntion that performs a series of tasks. I'd like to inform the user as to the state of the function as it progresses e.g.: Stage 1: Retrieving data... Stage 2: Calculating values... Stage 3: Printing values... Stage 4: Done! I've tried updating the updatepanel directly from the function but it only updates the panel at the end of function (stage 4) and shows "Done!" (which I understand is how it should work). I've been looking into timers and threads to try and update the panel seperate to the main function but I thought I'd post here incase anyone has any better ideas? Thanks for any help in advance! • correct approach to store in database

  I'm developing an online website (using Django and Mysql). I have a Tests table and User table. I have 50 tests within the table and each user completes them at their own pace. How do I store the status of the tests in my DB? One idea that came to my mind is to create an additional column in User table. That column containing testid's separated by comma or any other delimiter. userid | username | testscompleted 1 john 1, 5, 34 2 tom 1, 10, 23, 25 Another idea was to create a seperate table to store userid and testid. So, I'll have only 2 columns but thousands of rows (no of tests * no of users) and they will always continue to increase. userid | testid 1 1 1 5 2 1 1 34 2 10

• JTextArea thread safe?

  Hello everyone, I have some code that does some initialization (including making a JTextArea object), starts three seperate threads, and then these threads try to update the JTextArea (i.e. append() to it), but its not working at all. Nothing shows up on the JTextArea (however, during the initialzation, I print some test lines onto it, and that works fine). What's going on? How can I fix this? Also, each of those threads sleeps a random amount of time every time it has to update the JTextArea. Sorry I haven't provided any code, its all spread out over several files.

• retrieve comma delimited data from a field in using SQL

  I've created a form in php that collects basic information. I have a list box that allows multiple items selected (ie housing, rent, food, water). If multiple items are selected they are stored in a field called Needs seperated by a comma. I have created a report ordered by the persons needs. The people who only have one need are sorted correctly, but the people who have multiple are sorted exactly as the string passed to the database (ie. housing, rent, food, water) -- which is not what i want. Is there a way to seperate the multiple values in this field using SQL to count each need instance/occurance as 1 so that there are no comma delimitations shown in the results? CLICK FOR EXAMPLE

• Orphan Char appearing when using Sifr3 in Navigation (Wordpress)

  Hi there, I am having an issue implementing Sifr3 on this particular site and it's driving me nuts. Hoping someone will be able to help me: http://client.missmonkee.com/agency-mobile LOGIN: client-login cl1entpassw0rd Here at the top right you can see the navigation to the site, in FF3 Win 7 / FF & Safari MAC some menu items show 1 char on a seperate line to the rest of the menu item. It looks as if there is a width on the li or something but I'm 100% sure there isnt and the rest of the menu items are OK and display fine. Something in relation to this might help answer this problem, is that Sifr3 does does not work AT ALL in IE7 WIN. I've checked previous answers to this, being the trailing comma issue but I've triple checked and I do not have any trailing commas. Can anyone help on this pls? Thanks in advance

  Using winsock, you can configure sockets or seperate I/O operations to "overlap". This means that calls to perform I/O are returned immediately, while the actual operations are completed asynchronously by separate worker threads. Winsock also provides "completion ports". From what I understand, a completion port acts as a multiplexer of handles (sockets). A handle can be demultiplexed if it isn't in the middle of an I/O operation, i.e. if all its I/O operations are completed. So, on to my question... does linux support completion ports or even asynchronous I/O for sockets?

  Hi there. There has been a lot of talk around iPad-Apps / Approval / Store-related Questions. I've recently built an App which I'm just about to release / send to Apple for approval. I'm thinking about developing a dedicated iPad-App as well. Now, in order to not have two seperate Apps in the Store (one for the iPhone, one for the iPad) i want to create an universal-App for both platforms. I have a table Customers customer_number int field1 varchar field2 varchar field3 varchar field4 varchar ... and a lot more columns, that doesn't matter for my queries. Column *customer_number* is pk. I'm trying to find duplicate values and some differences between them. Please, help me to find all rows that have same 1) field1, field2, field3, field4 2) only 3 columns are equal and one of them isn't (except rows from list 1) 3) only 2 columns equal and two of them aren't (except rows from list 1 and list 2) In the end, I'll have 3 tables with this results and additional groupId, which will be same for a group of similars (For example, for 3 column equals, rows that have 3 same columns equal will be a seperate group) Thank you.

• How to rewrite to a virtual directory with a different application

  Hi, I have a CMS application that manages multiple websites, today whenever i change the codebehind of one of these websites - i have to rebuild the dll for all websites, deploy it - this disconnects all current sessions and is really bad. The iis is configured to listen to all domain requests, if the request is to one of the websites' domain , the application rewrites it, or example, if someone requests for http://www.example.com, and example.com is configured in the application to be website 12, it is rewritten to http://www.example.com/websites/12/default.aspx. This is done for all websites. We want to seperate the dlls of the websites from each other, and from the main CMS, we have a virtual directory to each websites, but when trying to rewrite to it, we discover that IIS support this (we get an "Could not load type '_12._Default'". error). How can we perform this rewrite so it does rewrite to virtual directories, or if anyone has any other solution for the initial dll seperation problem. Thanks in advance

• Is it OK to allow users to query an OLTP SQL Server database with excel?

  I have a SQL Server 2005 database used by several applications. Some users wish to query the database directly from excel. I can understand this, because it is a useful tool for adhoc queries and then getting the data in a format that's easily transmitted and manipulated by other users. My question is: Does Excel (say 2003/2007) do its querying in a way that won't cause concurency issues? Or is it done in such a way that a seperate datawarehouse database needs to be made to handle this scenario? Thanks for any advise.

• Creating compound applications in Windows 7

  I need to port a suite of Windows applications (running under XP with little security turned on) to Windows 7 with various levels of security, depending on how our clients may configure it. Each functional area is a seperate executable or DLL that is downloaded and registered by a central 'compound' application. This means that the different parts are all joined together to form in effect a large single application. My problem is that the compound application knows about the other applications via COM registery, either as a typelibrary or as OCXs, where appropriate. I have tried several questions here to try and solve the problems I am getting, but I don't seem to be able to get around the problem of needing elevated access to register applications and access the registry. Our clients will be expecting the same (relatively) seemless download and activation process as current under XP. So does anyone have a solution for registering typelibraries and OCX controls without need to go through an elevation process. Thanks in advance

  Hi there, I am just figuring out best practice with MVC now I have a project where we have chosen to use it in anger. My question is. If creating a list view which is bound to an IEnumerable is this bad practise? Would it be better to seperate the code generated by the WCF Service reference into a datastructure which essentially holds the same data but abstracts further from the service, meaning that the UI is totally unaware of the service implementation beneath. or do people just bind to the proxy object types and have done with it ? My personal feeling is to create an abstraction but this seems to violate the DRY principle.

• Ant database rebuild script, avoiding interactive prompting

  Hi Guys. I'm writing an ant script to rebuild our database i.e. dropping everything and rebuilding from scratch. The problem our DBA adds a Y/N prompt before executing the rest of the script, and therefore we can't call this from an automated build process. Does anyone have any suggestions to circumvent the Y/N prompt? Obviously we could create seperate scripts, one for the DBA's and one for the automated build - but this requires maintaning both. We're running on Windows so it's not as easy as using sed to strip out the prompt...but i'm thinking something along those lines. Not sure if that's clear enough but hope you can help. Cheers.

  I have a baseclass with a protected static ArrayList. I want to have a seperate ArrayList for each kind of subclass that extends this baseclass. This is when I applied CRTP: public class BaseExample<T> { protected static ArrayList<Integer> data = new ArrayList<Integer>(); } This works just fine. However, when I try to implement the following static method in the same base class, it doesn't adhere to CRTP: public static void clear() { data.clear(); } For example: class SubExample extends BaseExample<SubExample> { // insertion methods accessing 'data' field // these work fine :) } SubExample.clear(); // does not seem to clear data container Do I need to somehow explicitly specify T in my baseclass clear method? Note: These are all pure static classes.

  I just looked into wikipedia's entry on out-of-band data and as far as I understand, OOB data is somehow flagged more important and treated as ordinary data, but transmitted in a seperate stream, which profoundly confuses me. The actual question would be (besides "Could someone explain what OOB data is?"): I'm writing a unix application that uses sockets and need to make use of select() and was wondering what to do with the exceptfds parameter? • How to make one ASP.NET MVC site "derive" from another.

  My question is similar to "ASP.NET 2 projects to share same files", but with an ASP.NET MVC slant. Basically, we have two sites, one being based mostly on the other (roughly 90% views, controllers, images, in the second are identical to the first). However, in some cases, the views may be different, or a controller in the second site may be different to the first. Are there any simple ways of achieving this in ASP.NET MVC? So far, we've looked at using linked files to have two totally seperate projects where the second project shares the files it needs from the first. One problem with this approach is that most pages in the second project don't literally exist in the virtual directory, it makes debugging a pain - you have to publish in order to generate the files so you can debug. Does anyone have any better approaches, or ways this approach can be simplified?

• C++ How do I properly use getline for ifstream members.

  Ok so I have a problem with getline. I have a file that contains a couple strings. I created it by myself and I have each string on a seperate line. Ex. textfile.txt Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 Line 4 //Little snip of code ifstream inFile("textfile.txt"); getline(inFile, string1); When I debug the program and ask it to print out string1 it shows that "Line 1\r" is saved into string1. I understand that it's from me actually hitting enter when I created the file. This problem causes my program to have a segmentation fault. I know my code works because if I use ofstream to write the file first and then i read it in, it works. So for my quesiton, is their anyway to use the getline function without it picking up the escape sequence \r? If i am not clear just let me know.
