  • GParted tells me my partition has 1.30 GiB used space but I cannot access its contents

    I've a ext4 partition (/dev/sda7) for my Linux. And, another (/dev/sda5) for keeping my data. When I installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, I set the mount point of /dev/sda5 to "/" and that of /dev/sda5 to "/data". GParted tells me that 1.30 GiB out of 70.12 GiB of /dev/sda5 has been used up. But, the mounted directory "/data" is empty. So, it looks like that my data is there but I cannot access it. Besides, when I set the mount point, I didn't check the "format" box. So, it shouldn't have been formatted. How can I check whether the partition has been formatted? How can I recover my files?

I'm weighing the options versus building out in a cloud platform. We are REALLY low bandwidth and power. There's a total of six hosts for the total operation. You can assume we use <= 10 amps of power and <= 2Mbps 95th percentile. Do you have any advice for getting the best deal?

  • What about IPv4 class E?

    IPv4's class E network (240.0.0.0/4) contains 268 million addresses. Despite the advertisements for IPv6, claiming we have ran out of address space, this block ironically still claims to be "Reserved for future use". Why hasn't this block been freed up yet? Of course, IPv6 should be promoted instead of freeing up more IPv4 addresses, but we've seen the address shortage coming for years. There has even been a time they weren't sure there was enough time to develop IPv6 before we would run out of addresses. Why didn't they free up this block already? And is there any chance these addresses will be used in the future, like when IPv6 is fairly widely implemented but we still need IPv4 for backwards compatibility? It will be phased out regardless, but then ISPs don't have to employ NAT for IPv4 compatibility.

  • Problem accessing the remote working space on my new SBS 2008 box

    This supposedly easy to install OS is starting to drive me nuts... SYMPTOMS: When trying to connect to the remote workplace I get (and ignore) the security warning because I am currently testing with the self issued certificate. After loggin in the remote workplace's main screen displays but the images on it do not load. When I try to click the email link I am thrown back to the login screen. If I try the login to exchange directly by typing in the remote.mydomain.com/owa address I get a 403 error that I am denied access. The problem occurs on both a vista and a win 7 machine. It seems that some security setting is playing tricks with me. How can I troubleshoot this?

  • Maximum hard drive space for an Xserve G5

    At my college we're upgrading an Xserve G5 (RackMac3,1) to be a file server for some courses. Currently it has one sled with a 75GB drive. Obviously, this isn't enough. I've tried some Googling on this matter and I'm hearing a ton of different stuff - custom firmware, size issues, etc. So, for anyone who knows, what's the actual lowdown on this machine. We want to put in three 2TB drives using three standard sleds, replaced with third-party drives. Is this possible?

  • Do I need to reserve space before installing Ubuntu alongside Windows 7?

    I had Windows 7 32 bit on my existing system, but I am planning to install Ubuntu alongside it. So, I just decided to do a fresh installation of both the operating systems. When I insert the Windows 7 DVD, I can create 3 partitions at maximum, with one being the one where Windows 7 will be installed. I just wanted to know – do I need to keep some un-partitioned space for Ubuntu to install? By "unpartitioned space" I mean the space left after creating 3 partitions for Windows 7. I have a 500 GB HDD, so the three partitions I would be creating are 120 GB, 120 GB and 120 GB. The rest is shown as some logical drive, is that unpartitioned space? Can I install Ubuntu over there? I am pretty sure the space shown as logical won't be available as drives when I log into Windows 7. Is that space lost or can I use that to install ubuntu?

All the data on the server is used by our customers and new documents are uploaded to the server daily. So nothing can be deleted as it's always in use. We use a flat file structure with no database. I'm seeking solutions or ideas for the best place to move the our data to. The data has to be secure and needs to run on a linux environment.     I'm trying to get an object from object space, into projected space using these intermediate matrices: The first matrix (I) is the one that transforms from object space into inertial space, but since my object is not rotated or translated in any way inside the object space, this matrix is the 4x4 identity matrix. The second matrix (W) is the one that transforms from inertial space into world space, which is just a scale transform matrix of factor a = 14.1 on all coordinates, since the inertial space origin coincides with the world space origin. /a 0 0 0\ W = |0 a 0 0| |0 0 a 0| \0 0 0 1/ The third matrix (C) is the one that transforms from world space, into camera space.     Having a bit of difficulty getting my input to print once a white space character is inputted. So far, i have it to display the uppercase/lowercase of the input but once i enter a string it doesnt read whats after the white space character. any suggestions?   • Splitting an image in GWT results in unwanted white space

    I am using GWT 2.03 and am have an image that I want to place partially in an area with a background and partially above a background. I am using a FlexTable to try to accomplish this and have used GIMP to cut the image into two sections. I am trying to load the top part of the image into row 0 and the bottom part of the image into row 1. I set the alignment of the top image to ALIGN_BOTTOM but there is a bit of space at the bottom of cell and so the two parts of the picture don't touch. Here is an image showing what I am talking about. I set the background of the cell to be yellow show where the cell boundaries are. The bottom image and background are rendering correctly.     I am using a QVBoxLayout to arrange a vertical stack of widgets. I want some of them to be initially hidden and only show up when a check box is checked. Here is an example of the code I'm using. Is there any way to make the QVBoxLayout reserve space for these widgets even if they're initially invisible?

  • "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" in image and array storage

    I am currently working on an image processing demonstration in java (Applet). I am running into the problem where my arrays are too large and I am getting the "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" error. The algorithm I run creates an NxD float array where: N is the number of pixel in the image and D is the coordinates of each pixel plus the colorspace components of each pixel (usually 1 for grayscale or 3 for RGB). For each iteration of the algorithm it creates one of these NxD float arrays and stores it for later use in a vector, so that the user of the applet may look at the individual steps. My client wants the program to be able to load a 500x500 RGB image and run as the upper bound. There are about 12 to 20 iterations per run so that means I need to be able to store a 12x500x500x5 float in some fashion. Is there a way to process all of this data and, if possible, how? Example of the issue: I am loading a 512 by 512 Grayscale image and even before the first iteration completes I run out of heap space. The line it points me to is: Y.add(new float[N][D]) where Y is a Vector and N and D are described as above. This is the second instance of the code using that line.

    Hello, I am trying to show an image on Mouseover and hide it on Mouseout. I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden.. The text is surrounded with the space of image but the image is displayed on mouseover.   • Why does hiberfil.sys come back from the dead on Windows 7?

    I have Windows 7 running on a small (40GB) partition, with 4GB ram. This means that the hiberfil.sys file created by Hibernate takes up a significant portion of the available diskspace. I would like to remove it. I am aware that I can disable Hibernate and remove hiberfil.sys by entering powercfg -h off in an elevated command prompt. This works -- the file is immediately removed, and after doing so, the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\HibernateEnabled key is (correctly) set to 0. However, the next time I reboot the PC, hiberfil.sys returns from the dead, Hibernate is reenabled, and that registry key has returned to 1. I'm pretty much at my wits' end with this. Almost everything I can find online related to removing the hiberfil.sys file simply suggests using powercfg to turn off hibernation, and that appears to work for just about everyone. But it just keeps coming back for me! (Like a vampire, sucking up my disk space.) I did find one other thread from someone who seems to have had the same issue, but none of the suggestions there worked for the original poster (or for me). Still, I have tried everything listed there, including: Disabling hybrid sleep Disabling Hibernate through the command prompt, through the Power Options GUI, and through both (in both orders) Manually changing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\HibernateEnabled key Pretty much everything else I can think of! I do want to reiterate that I have no problem removing the file -- that works great. It just comes back after every reboot. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and just run a script on login to disable Hibernate each time, even though that seems like a crazily hacky "solution" . . . but I was hoping someone here could suggest something else, first.   • So I want to separate my Program Files from the hard disk with the other system files. What is the b

    So I am running Windows 7 as my only OS. I have two hard drives on my computer. The first one is a 74GB Western Digital 10K RPM Raptor. The second one is a 1TB Seagate Barracuda (couldn't remember if it was a 7200.12 or some other decimal after the 7200). The OS in installed to the Raptor and I am just using the Barracuda for storage. With this setup, in case you couldn't guess already, the Raptor fills up quick and I am constantly having to maintain file locations. And although it is nice to have that quicker boot time and program loading, the time spent maintaining the drive makes me waste more time overall. So I am looking for a way to try to keep it clear while still keeping up system loading speeds. A performance hit on games and such is easily acceptable and as long as I can guarantee a 5GB space on the Raptor, I can always just temporarily move the disc image there. So I am figuring that having games installed like Boarderlands and Mass Effect, as well as having large files such as linux distro DVD disc images in My Documents, I probably should be moving my personal files and Program Files directories to the Barracuda. I currently have folders on the Barracuda for this, but this means routinely copying files over and I can't really do anything with the Program Files folder that already exists. The best I can do is remember to designate the install directory of any program installation to the alternative install directory, which I can't seem to get to ever work right with Steam. With that in mind, is there a way that is not too drastic to let me just change some folders and system settings once and everything works fine afterwards for my setup? I have considered just reinstalling Windows 7 to the Barracuda but that would defeat the purpose of the Raptor except for running disc images off of. I am also heard a bit about being able to use symlinks to fix this, but I have also heard that symlinks in Windows are not necessarily the same and not as well supported on Windows. An example a friend mentioned was something about how if you have a symlink in Windows on a small hard drive to a large hard drive and the contents the symlink points to is larger than the small hard drive's capacity, then Windows will think the smaller hard drive is full. So is there a fix/workaround that will let me use symlinks across hard drives without the issues or is there a better solution I am not being told about, not mentioning, or not thinking of?

  • Fragment Shader Eye-Space unscaled depth coordinate

    I'm trying to use the unscaled (true distance from the front clipping plane) distance to objects in my scene in a GLSL fragment shader. The gl_FragCoord.z value is smaller than I expect. In my vertex shader, I just use ftransform() to set gl_Position. I'm seeing values between 2 and 3 when I expect them to be between 15 and 20. How can I get the real eye-space depth? Thanks!
