  • Joining H264 *without* re-encoding

    I have two halves of a single show in two .MP4 files, encoded in H264. I would like to join them without re-encoding. Is this possible? I managed to create a joined video as a Quicktime file (.mov) using Quicktime Pro, but then Quicktime Pro will not convert it back to .MP4 without re-encoding. This may be because looking inside the .mov file, the two H264 videos are in there still separated as individual "objects". I am also struggling with MPEG StreamClip without reaching a real solution. But I may have missed something. Note that I do not have the same issue with MPEG2 files. I can export them to a .MPEG container or a .TS file for example, and then I can join them without re-encoding using MPEG Streamclip. Any suggestion welcome, preferably using Mac software.

  • AWS RDS Mysql with benstalk Hibernate app: Character encoding issue

    I'm running a webapp from amazon rds with tomcat 7 and spring, which uses hibernate as the persistence layer. The application and utf-8 encoding work properly on localhost, but for some reason when I deploy to amazon, the UTF-8 encoding breaks. I use mysql 5.5.27 on amazon rds and the table that we wish to update has collation set to utf8 - utf8_unicode_ci And in hibernate I have set: < prop key="hibernate.connection.charSet"UTF-8 UTF-8 characters get replaced by ??? and this is of course especially bad for passwords and usernames + email as it basically kills them. Anyone else encountered character encoding breaking when deploying to amazon?

  • Why does IIS not support chunked transfer encoding?

    I am making an HTTP connection to an IIS web server and sending a POST request with the data encoded using Transfer-Encoding: chunked. When I do this, IIS simply closes the connection, with no error message or status code. According to the HTTP 1.1 spec, All HTTP/1.1 applications MUST be able to receive and decode the "chunked" transfer-coding so I don't understand why it's (a) not handling that encoding and (b) it's not sending back a status code. If I change the request to send the Content-Length rather than Transfer-Encoding, the query succeeds, but that's not always possible. When I try the same thing against Apache, I get a "411 Length required" status and a message saying "chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden". Why do these servers not support this encoding?

    Hi, I need to download and parse webpage with lxml and build UTF-8 xml output. I thing schema in pseudocode is more illustrative: from lxml import etree webfile = urllib2.urlopen(url) root = etree.parse(webfile.read(), parser=etree.HTMLParser(recover=True)) txt = my_process_text(etree.tostring(root.xpath('/html/body'), encoding=utf8)) output = etree.Element("out") output.text = txt outputfile.write(etree.tostring(output, encoding=utf8)) So webfile can be in any encoding (lxml should handle this). Outputfile have to be in utf-8. I'm not sure where to use encoding/coding. Is this schema ok? (I cant find good tutorial about lxml and encoding, but I can find many problems with this...)   • Check the encoding of text in SQlite

    I'm having a nightmare dealing with non Eurpean texts in SQlite. I think the problem is that SQlite isn't encoding the text in UTF8. So I want to check what the encoding is, and hopefully change it to utf8. I encoded a CSV in UTF8 and simply imported it to SQlite but the non-roman text is garbled. I would like to know: 1)how to check the encoding. 2)How to change the encoding if it is not utf8. I've been reading about Pragma encoding, but I'm not sure how to use this.

  • Unable to transfer data to or from mounted hard drive

    So usually i'm good at sorting out issues. But this one has me at a loss! This issues has occured since upgrading my ubuntu so this was workingg prior. I use mounted hard drives to manage my downloads which are then copied over accordingly by a python based app. I found it was having issues with permissions to create anything on these mounted hard drives. I'm able to play and access he content of these drives so they're not faulty. My mount script looks like the following rw,user,exec,auto I really am stuck. Could anyone shed any light on how to fix this and allow me to access it.   • File Transfer using RDP

    I often use RDP to log into servers.   A couple of issues I have had is that its a pain to get files onto the server from my PC at times, and, if there is something missing from the servers windows install, I can’t simply pop the DVD into remote server in some unknown location on the internet somewhere. The other day I was curious if RDP actually had anything…since it did support shared clipboards, so I went for a look through the options and low and behold, *hidden* away….. Select Options… Go to the “Local Resources” Tab, then where it has “Local devices and resources” it sneakily has a “More…” button. Which then displays a drive selection box.  Select the drive you want …. Then on your server you will get….. Nice.  That is useful.

Add database handling code to the main site. (No, not seriously considering this duplication of effort! :) Design some mechanism (via REST?) so a webpage outside the customer database subsite can feed data into the customer database I'd welcome some suggestions on how to organise the code for this situation, preferably with extensibility in mind, and particularly if there are any options I haven't thought of.     I have a script in /etc/init.d on an EC2 image that, on machine startup, pulls in source code via SVN, builds it, and then runs it using Ant. The source code is Java. Within this code is a call to the Weka library which writes a file to disk. On most Ubuntu AMIs, and my home machines' versions of Ubuntu, there is no issue. The problem is that with certain versions/AMIs of Ubuntu, Unicode characters in the file are replaced with question marks ('?'). If I run the job manually on the trouble instance, Unicode is output to file correctly, but not when run from /etc/init.d. What might be causing this problem and how can I fix it so that Unicode characters appear correctly in files written from /etc/init.d processes?

    I have cloned a VirtualBox machine, which runs Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit as Guest OS. I now wish to transfer it to a new host machine running Windows Vista 32-bit. I’ve transferred the .vdi file and adjusted the name and memory. However when I boot it, the options to choose the Linux version came up: Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-10-generic, Linux 2.6.38-10-generic(recovery mode) , Previous Linux versions, Memory test. Once I chose Linux 2.6.38 a black screen just appears with an underscore at the top. What should I do to get it to run? I don’t have my original machine near me now so I can only work with my .vdi image. My VB is version 4.0.10. I have tried cloning this VDI and also assigning a new UUID and making a new guest, but I still got the black screen. Thank you.

  • Wordpress : Automatically transfer media files to Amazon S3

    I've been using VPS to host 7 Wordpress websites, most of them require big storage but very little RAM and traffic. So I'm thinking of moving the static files(uploads folder) content to Amazon S3 and I'm looking for the most viable solution to this. I want every website to have their own bucket and newly uploaded media files automatically uploaded to Amazon S3 without using plugin. I'm ok with cron job, for example the files were uploaded first to my server, then transferred to S3 and deleted from my server every 24 hour. Or is there any way for me to change the default upload directory to my S3 bucket without sacrificing any Wordpress functionality(resize/title etc)? What do you think the most efficient way to do this? Currently I'm looking at this plus cron job but I would like to know better option if it exist.

I found that I must write -pass n command some where, but where to write it I do not know. I tested this and wrote -pass 3 at the end but then the terminal just showed a > symbol.

    The Situation: When I try to transfer a file from one computer to another that are both connected via wireless on a WRT54GL (in a office) with dd-wrt firmware I often get bad speeds. In generally they average around 100 kilobytes a second. Either computer can download via wireless from the Internet at at about 2 megabytes a second. The speed is slow with the transfer of one large file. There are about 20 other wireless networks that the computers can see, so there is a lot of noise, but I don't have the equipment to really monitor the frequencies well. But that still seems pretty slow. I thought maybe it was the transmit on each card, but even when they are 5 feet away with a line of sight I still get these speeds. According to Linux both cards are operating at 54g. My Questions: Is this normal for this sort of consumer level wireless equipment? Anything I can do to improve it? why is wireless to wireless transfer slow when everything else isn't? Whats steps might I take to figure out what is happening? For example, are lots of packets not making to the access point requiring retransmissions? Above all, I want to find out what the problem actually is. This may seem odd, but at this point I am more interested in understanding what the problem is than fixing it. What I have tried: I have tried messing with lots of settings. Different channels, xmit power, G-Only, none of which has made anything any better. I've also tried upgrading to newer dd-wrt firmware version and doing a reset to wipe out the settings.

  • Methods to transfer files from Windows server to linux server

    Hi, I need to transfer webserver-log-like-files containing periodically from windows production servers in the US to linux servers here in India. The files are ~4 MB in size each and I get about 1 file per minute. I can take about 5 mins lag between the files getting written in windows and them being available in the linux machines. I am a bit confused between the various options here as I am quite inexperienced in such design: I am thinking of writing a service in C#.NET which will periodically archive, compress and send them over to the linux machines. These files are pretty compressible. WinRAR can convert 32 MB of these files into a 1.2 MB archive. So that should solve the network transfer speed issue. But then how exactly do I transfer files to linux? I could mount linux drive on windows server using samba, or should I create an ftp server, or send the file serialized as a POST request. Which one would be good? Also, I have to minimize the load on the windows server. Mount the windows drive on linux instead. I could use the mount command or I could use samba here (What are the pros and cons of these two?). I can then write the compressing and copying part in linux itself. I don't trust the internet connection to be very stable, so there should be a good retry mechanism and failure protection too. What are the potential gotchas in these situations, and other points that I must be worried about? Thanks, Hari
