• Bridging wireless and wired networks on Linux box

  I have the following setup: modem + router - - - - -Ubuntu box on master mode.........wireless devises. Ubuntu machine connects to Internet on wired network. I've dhcp3-server, masquerading, and wireless card with master mode on Ubuntu box. The issue is Ubuntu connects to the router on NAT. The wireless devises connect to the Ubuntu box on a NAT too (though different). SO my wireless devises are behind two NAT networks. The solution I am looking for is Ubuntu should forward dhcp requests to the modem+router, and Ubuntu should act as a switch or a bridge that allows wireless devises to connect to the wired network. So the modem+router should act a main router.

• Laptop connects to other network but not to my home wireless

  My home network's wireless SSID is say "XYZ" I also have an ethernet wire from the same router. I have two laptops A and B Earlier both A and B were able to connect to my home internet through the ethernet and wireless. Suddenly, the laptop B can no longer connect to XYZ or through ethernet. When I do plug the wire, i get the connection icon all green but when I try to access any web page it errors out (page not found) But strangely laptop B connects to my neighbours wireless SSID "ABC". I have also tested laptop B with other networks and it connects fine. Laptop A and many other devices still connect fine with my home wireless "XYZ" Strange thing is when my laptop B connects wireless through XYz, it gets the IP address but then none of the browsers (chrome,firefox, IE) can show any web pages. What settings should I be checking on laptop B that is preventing it to connect to my home internet. Thank you

  I have verizon fios internet service. I believe they use a Wireless G router, but I just have one question. I currently am using a 54mbps wireless pci adapter in my Windows 7 custom build. It drops the internet connection all the time and is starting to get very irritating. I'm thinking about buying a new one, but all the 300mbps cards on newegg are wireless n. So my question is, will a wireless n network adapter make a difference with a wireless g router?

• Wireless only connects to Google

  I am using a netgear wireless router to connect to create a wireless network. When connected to the router via an Ethernet cable everything works correctly. When connecting to the router via wireless only Google can be accessed. I've done searches via Google using random words to make sure that it is not a cached page, and these all work. However, trying to connect to any non Google domain the page fails to load. I've accessed the connection with two different laptops, both are running Windows Vista. The network connection is strong on both, but the issue persists for both. Edit: I have configured the wireless networks name and password, and connect to that using the credentials I have defined. I am sure I am not connecting to a neighbors wireless network. Edit2: Typing in the direct IP address for CNN.com ( http://157.166.255.19 ) would not resolve.

• Wireless slow, but very odd

  I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, internet through the wireless timeouts. Even though it connects fine to the AP/router. The computer had a virus (searchnu?) and I backed up the usual and restored the laptop to factory image. Problem is after the restore the internet through the wireless the same still... and connected via wired and everything worked fine. I was able to update the whole system. Internet worked perfect, speed great. But the wireless still was pitiful. Ping tests with wireless are interesting: Google= 18ms Gmail= 18ms Yahoo= 1023ms 8.8.8.8=30ms Microsoft= Request Timed Out Bing= Request Timed Out msn= Request Timed Out even though I get 18ms with google, the pages take a long time to load. Is this a root kit? is it the wireless card in the laptop?

• Linux will not activate wireless after device has been re-enabled

  Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again. However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.

  I'm a linux Newb, and I have tried several of the fixes listed to try and get my wifi drivers to work, but to no avail. Does anyone here know why this isn't working for me, or better yet, how to fix it?   When I tried to connect at my mother's house and then my brother's house; the little connection icon would circle forever before eventually prompting for password. I have triple checked all network keys & then some. Even with my home network I now have to revert to 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx (dual boot) or wired Ethernet.   hello, i have ubunto 10.10 running on an old dell xps system. when i set it up i had internet through my home wifi router on my cable modem. now the dell is at another home with an ADSL wifi router from verizon. we have entered the ssid and wep key as given from the adsl router. the other windows computers connect with the wep key and automatic detection. the ubuntu dell detects the connection but does not autenticate, keeps asking for wep key. i have tried diferent settings regarding wep, wpa, wep with hex and asci, still no results. what am i doing wrong? help please. thanks.

  Im having problems connecting my wifi in Ubuntu 13.04 So i was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe i put in the wrong data or maybe not enough Would that make it work??   I have a Netgear WNA1100 usb wifi adapter. I have installed Atheros driver from Forum Details (btw name of the file is ath9k_htc-installer.1.0.1-maverick-fixed.deb). I wish to make a setup like connectify(windows) on ubuntu, so that I can connect my phone wirelessly to my laptop via Netgear WNA1100 (behaving as AP) and eventually use internet via my wired lan. I have installed the above mentioned driver, hostapd and hostap-utils. Following is my hostapd.conf file. ssid=vks interface=wlan1 # The interface name of the card driver=ath9k_htc # The card driver macaddr_acl=0 accept_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.accept deny_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.deny ieee80211x=1 # Use 802.1X authentication auth_algs=1 ignore_broadcast_ssid=0 wpa=2 wpa_passphrase=88888888 wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK wpa_pairwise=TKIP rsn_pairwise=CCMP When i run sudo hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf I get an error invalid/unknown driver 'ath9k_htc # The card driver I think the driver is installed fine, as i can see the blue led blinking on the netgear adapter, which was not blinking earlier. Can someone please guide me how to achieve this setup? I will appreciate an example hostapd.conf file with a simple wpa_psk security setup. Please be detailed and descriptive with commands. • Installer says I'd need a wireless firmware, but WLAN works without it out of the box

  While installing 12.04.01 (Alternate) on a netbook (Samsung N150Plus), Ubuntu informed me that I'd need the firmware brcm/bcm43xx-0.fw. I skipped this step. If I understand this page correctly, the mentioned firmware is a WLAN driver. However, after the Ubuntu installation was completed, the WLAN worked out of the box. After a few minutes, Ubuntu informed me that there is a firmware update available, which would be the mentioned firmware. Do I need to install this? Is Ubuntu using some kind of "lite" WLAN driver and I might run into problems with certain networks in the future, if I don't use the firmware? Would there be benefits in using the firmware? (maybe longer runtime because of lower consumption?)

• Broadcom 4365 wireless driver with 3.4 / 3.5 kernel

  I used this package to install the driver on 3.2 Kernel and it was working perfectly. Unfortunately the system used to freeze randomly with 3.2 kernel so I installed 3.4 kernel, now there is no freezing, the only problem is that my wifi card is not working, I tried to re-install the package, but didn't work. I can see the driver in the "additional drivers" and it say that it is active, but when I execute iwconfig it doesn't show up. I find it seems to work when I'm booting a partition everyday (as I do for my main 10.10 partition) but for my 11.04 testing partition it's a real pain - usually refusing to connect. So given that I have both a working (10.04) and not-working (10.10 and 11.04) installs, how can I troubleshoot my problem?

• Cisco Linksys AE2500 wireless adapter not working

  I have a Cisco AE2500 I've used with my laptop to get internet. I had to install the drivers by following this forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1805830 But now the blue light on the adapter doesn't turn on at all, but ndiswrapper reports it is connected. I have no connection to the internet on my laptop, and the adapter doesn't show it's blue light on any of the USB ports of my computer or on the 4 port hub I have. Is there some way I can reset something so that the blue light will show again? I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell Latitude D505 laptop. EDIT: I deleted and reinstalled the same exact driver and everything worked again.

However I'm posting my BackTrack question here since I find similar problems in backtrack forum are being unanswered and Linux/Unix site of StackExchange has very low attraction. I'm having USB wifi adapter (iBall Baton), having chipset RTL8191SU. It displays available wifi networks in Wicd manager. But while trying to connect it gives me bad password. When I'm trying to run airmon-ng it didn't returned me the monitor mode. I tried to replace with Ubuntu 12.10 drivers. But it totally nulled the device functionality. However I restored the drivers. After upgrading the internet was very slow (the estimated time on the updates was something like 4 days). I thought maybe this had something to do with the Wine installation, so I decided to finally do an actual dual boot. I partitioned my drive all nice and neat, but I made the mistake of connecting to the internet for the installation, and clicking the option to install updates and restricted extras. This was in the morning, circa 6 am. Fast forward to the evening, the installation is frozen at around 75%. In frustration I gave the ol girl a hard shut-down, which effectively rendered my machine useless. I used the thumb drive to reinstall Ubuntu, this time without connecting to the internet. Installed nice and easy, no problems, but the internet is still ridiculously slow. It took me about 20 minutes of frustration and hitting stop and reload repeatedly to even get this question page to open. This is important to me as now Windows won't even boot and I have to use ubuntu for the time being but I can't even bear to turn on my laptop due to the frustration that immediately ensues. Please help! Oh, and I'm relatively new so if there are some terminal commands that spew out info you guys would find useful let me know what they are and I'll post back the information.

• Help setting up wireless in Ubuntu 13.04

  I'm having problems connecting my WIFI in Ubuntu 13.04 . So I was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe I put in the wrong data or maybe not enough. Would that make it work? I just don't know how to find out some of the data you need to put in? I'm new and it's confusing. Does anyone know the solution? • Broadcom 4365 wireless driver on 12.04 with 3.4 / 3.5 kernel

  I used this package to install the driver on 3.2 Kernel and it was working perfectly. Unfortunately the system used to freeze randomly with 3.2 kernel so I installed 3.4 kernel, now there is no freezing, the only problem is that my wifi card is not working, I tried to re-install the package, but didn't work. I can see the driver in the "additional drivers" and it say that it is active, but when I execute iwconfig it doesn't show up. I've even tried ndiswraper and that didn't work either. my lspci: 01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4365 (rev 01)
