  Q1. If a computer had two NICs, lets say windows, on which interface would HTTP traffic (or any for that matter) go out on. Not sure how the routes table would look like. Q2. If one of the NICs link becomes unresponsive, would traffic be automatically routed to the other NIC? Thanks.

• Cannot access virtual machine via ping from the physical host machine

  I'm installing a FreeBSD Server on VirtualBox. I set up the IP address (192.168.10.5) for the virtual server to run a mail server and the host computer(Windows 7) with 192.168.10.184. The two machines cannot communicate or connect to each other. I cannot ping from the virtual machine to the host and vice versa. The host machine connects to a LAN. I want the mail server to run frm a VMachine. I think it's a problem with the network configuration of the virtual machine.

• Website pages very slow to load on first access

  I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? I like to find out the solution for the long time "wait" in connection. I know that my question is very minimal, but you can always ask me to give you information about the server.

  Hello All, I am very new to ASP.NET MVC and currently, I am involved in developing a new application in ASP.NET MVC 2. I am having problem in managing a long querystring parameters that comes from dBase. For example, in any non-mvc app the following URL works well: http ://example.com/test.aspx?first_name=fname&last_name=lname&email_id=email&address1=add1&address2=add2&city=city&state=state&zip_code=zip and so on. The QueryString parameter can be determined on the fly (i.e. at run-time). Now for dynamic QueryString how routing will be done? Also for a simple URL, the URL will be as follows (in ASP.NET MVC): http ://example.com/test/id/category But for above mentioned dynamic & long QueryString how the URL will look like?   Hello, we run several windows servers and windows clients on our vmware esx. One of the Windows 2003 Servers is a build-server with major HDD-reads/writes. as it is our build server. This machine was a hardware before and was virtualized to the ESX. Is there any way to increase the HDD-Performance? Perhaps there are special windows (guest) drivers? The files are stored on a Raid6 base. Performance graph of vmware infrastructure client shows reads up to 650 KBps and writes up to 4000 KBps. Thank you. Regards, Uwe

• Slow network file access with VMWare Server and Windows 7

  I have Windows 7 32-bit virtual machine running in a VMWare Server virtual machine. The host is Windows 7 64-bit. When I copy files between them it is extremely slow - it will take several minutes to copy even a 1 MB file. I can upload the file to an website and then download it again almost instantaneously by comparison. Browsing the network is quite zippy and has no problems. I have been unable to set up a HomeGroup between the computers though - the guest always times out without managing to get setup. Any ideas on how I should go about tracking down where the problem is?

  On Mac OS X Snow Leopard I'm trying to give the apache2 user _www full rights to a mounted hidden windows server share. I've used Connect to Server with smb://servername/share$ and saved the username/password in the keychain. The domain username used for the mount got full rights to the share on the windows server. It all works this far. I can browse and edit the files in the share from the Mac. However I can't find a way to give the apache2 user _www rights to write to the mounted share. I have a perl script that is supposed to create a file in the mounted folder but only get permission denied. I've tried all kinds of chmod and chown but it doesn't change the permissions of the share. Does anyone know how this can be done please?

  Based on Sharing Files between CentOS 6 and Windows Systems with Samba I am able to follow until section of "Accessing Samba Shares". however, my system is WinXP and I don't see CentOS 6 icon at all. In my left panel of explorer, I only see "My network places". For section "Accessing Windows Shares from CentOS 6", after I click workgroup, I only see a localhost icon. When I click this icon, I see "unable to mount location" error from CentOS. BTW: I have set the shared folder within WMWare Player 6.0. Whatelse I have to do in order to make the shared folder work? • WGet or cURL: Mirror Site from http://site.com And No Internal Access

  I have tried wget -m wget -r and a whole bunch of variations. I am getting some of the images on http://site.com, one of the scripts, and none of the CSS, even with the fscking -p parameter. The only HTML page is index.html and there are several more referenced, so I am at a loss. curlmirror.pl on the cURL developers website does not seem to get the job done either. Is there something I am missing? I have tried different levels of recursion with only this URL, but I get the feeling I am missing something. Long story short, some school allows its students to submit web projects, but they want to know how they can collect everything for the instructor who will grade it, instead of him going to all the externally hsoted sites. UPDATE: I think I figured out the issue. I though the links to the other pages were in the index.html page that downloaded. I was way off. Turns out the footer of the page, which has all the navigation links, is handled by a JavaScript file Include.js, which reads JLSSiteMap.js and some other JS files to do page navigation and the like. As a result, wget does not pick up an other dependencies because a lot of this crap is handled not on web pages. How can I handle such a website? This is one of several problem cases. I assume little can be done if wget cannot parse JavaScript.

  I was thinking about something. I want to install a 7gb partition and store 2 compress disk image and install linux to it. I want it to be light. What i would like to do is hide the grub loader (or anything) and if i want to reformat my PC press a certain key on startup. Which will then load the linux OS and then i can use dd to restore the partition i want I plan to use windows XP and windows 7 as my main OS and virtualize anything else i need (vista, dummy XP for testing, multiple linux distos, etc). Bonus points if you can tell me how to hide the partition in windows so XP and 7 cant touch it

• Can't access server on LAN new Router

  Earlier this week my roommates decided to change the router we are using for our home network. On the old router I had no problems accessing a laptop running Mint Linux over the network(SSH, FTP, and Shared Folders). However I am now not able to connect. I have verified the IP address of my Linux machine has not changed and I have no problems connecting to our NAS(WDMYCLOUD). The new router is a D-Link DIR-868L. PuTTY is giving me a Timed Out error(was giving me a EHOSTUNREACH before). Running Windows 8.1 the connecting laptop, but tried connecting using my phone via SSH did not work either. • Convert a Linksys WAG54GP2 ADSL router into Access point only to extend my Wifi range

  I have a wireless lan running on my ASDL2 connection. The router (Seimens Gigaset sx763) is provided by the ISP and is generally good. However I have couple of dead spots at the far end of the house and since I have my old router sitting in the drawer I thought that I'd try to convert it into simple WAP. However downloading the manual from linksys it seems to be that the manual is from an earlier firmware, but the very first option on the very first page seems promising: Wan Mode: Router or ADSL However after this I'm a bit lost. I know that the wireless card on this box will need a mac address and it must get its address from the master router (I thought static might be best). However the again the manual is out of date I have the option of DHCP: ON or OFF or RELAY I've not even got to the more complex options yet. Question is can this device even work this way (seems like it but I cannot find any docs on it), and if so how? Edit: Having now fiddled around I'm of the opinion that this cannot be done.

  I have a weird problem. Here is my configuration. I installed VirtualBox on Windows 7 PC. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on VirtualBox. I installed many programs via terminal and I can still install. My browser can connect to internet. But I cannot ping any website e.g. google.com. I cannot download anything from git.I can only ping 192.168.1.1 that is all. What would be the reason guys? UPDATE I can ping with another internet connection which I use in office.

  I am trying to fix a Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32 bits) computer. I have a weird problem. It was working fine until two days ago (didn't do anything weird in that day), and suddenly windows network (accessing to Windows Shares, sharing my printer) stopped working. TCP/IP networks words without issues, since I can IM, use the WebBrowser, check my email, you name it. Any ideas on how could I attempt to fix this?

  When trying to run the following database backup command from my code I get an "Operating system error 5(Access is denied.)" error. This is because the log on account for the SQL Server Windows Service is 'Network Service' and that does not have access to right to this folder. BACKUP DATABASE [AE3DB] TO DISK = 'c:\AE3\backup\AE3DB.bak' My question is, from my code how would I go about figuring out where on the C drive 'Network Service' is allowed to right the backup to? NOTE: This is a distributed application so I cannot easily change the log on for the SQL Server Windows Service to the 'Local System' account that would be able to right to that folder.

  How do I prevent my users from accessing directly pages meant for ajax calls only? Passing a key during ajax call seems like a solution, whereas access without the key will not be processed. But it is also easy to fabricate the key, no? Curse of View Source... p/s: Using Apache as webserver. EDIT: To answer why, I have jQuery ui-tabs in my index.php, and inside those tabs are forms with scripts, which won't work if they're accessed directly. Why a user would want to do that, I don't know, I just figure I'd be more user friendly by preventing direct access to forms without validation scripts.

• Windows 7 PC cannot see some LAN PCs, but can access them via path

  In an office LAN, with Windows 7 Professional workstations and a FreeNAS Samba server, 2 workstations have intermittent problems in browsing for the other workstations, as well as the FreeNAS server. However, so far, it appears that typing in the path to any of the workstations which aren't visible via the "browse" function, works. ie. the machine Workstation7 is not visible while browsing via Windows Explorer, but is accessible if I type \\Workstation7 in the path field. Occasionally the workstations exhibiting these symptoms show errors that their connection to the FreeNAS server has failed and only rebooting resolves the issue. All other workstations on the network use identical Windows 7 Professional installations and never have these problems. I've checked all machines and they're not using Home Groups. All are setup on the same WorkGroup as the FreeNAS server and the network type is set to Work Network. Temporarily disabling the firewall on the workstations with the issue made no difference, so I know this has nothing to do with the firewall settings. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Issue resolving names on Hyper-V guest with Routing and Remote Access

  I've got a Win2k8 standard server running Hyper-V with a Server 2003 web guest instance running. The host is publicly available on the internet. I've created an Internal Private network in the Hyper-V Virtual Network manager. I've set the host IP for that virtual adapter to 192.168.0.1. I've set the IP on the guest to 192.168.0.2. They can ping each other and share files. I can't browse the web on the guest though. NSLOOKUPs are working. I've tried setting the DNS server setting on the guest to 192.168.0.1 and something external like Google's 8.8.8.8 server to no avail. Windows firewall is disabled on the internal virtual network. I've tried it with both DNS installed on the host and without it. I'm not sure which RRAS/NAT settings are relevant to pass on so ask if you need me to clarify anything. How do I get outbound internet working on the guest VM?
