  I'm looking for what the standard, approved, and robust way of stripping invalid characters from strings before writing them to an XML file. I'm talking here about blocks of text containing backspace (^H) and formfeed characters etc. There has to be a standard library/module function for doing this but I can't find it. I'm using XML::LibXML to build a DOM tree that I then serialize to disk.

  We have been using Cassandra 0.6 and now have Column Families with millions of keys. We are interested in using the new Secondary Index feature available in the 0.7 but couldn't find any documentation on how the new index is stored. Is there any disk-space limitation or is the index stored similar to keys in that it's spread over multiple nodes? I've tried combing through the Cassandra site for an answer but to no avail.

  In CouchDb's documentation, the described method of deleting document attachments is to send a DELETE call to the attachment's url. However, I have noticed that if you edit the document and remove the attachment stub from the _attachment field, it will not be accessible anymore. If i remove foo.txt from the document below and save to CouchDb it will be gone the next time I access the document: { "_id":"attachment_doc", "_rev":1589456116, "_attachments": { "foo.txt": { "stub":true, "content_type":"text/plain", "length":29 } } } Is the attachment actually deleted on disk or is just the reference to it deleted?

  I have plenty of RAM, however, after starting and finishing a large number of processes, it seems that most of the applications' virtual memory has been paged to disk, and switching to any of the older processes requires a very long time to load the memory back into RAM. Is there a way, either via Windows API or via kernel call, to get Windows to unpage all (or as much as possible) memory? Maybe by stepping through the list of running processes and get the memory manager to unpage each process's memory?

I tried to look at the file on the disk but could not find it. Nearly every other file is there. I even tried to boot in Windows 98 and mount the NTFS and see the file, but it still wasn't there. I ran a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials but it found nothing. When I rebooted, I saw this line instead: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\a6n163gl.SYS How can I remove this? How can I find out what it does? How can I find out when it was put in? How can I find out who wrote it?
