• ICalendar parser in PHP that supports timezones

  I am looking for a PHP class that can parse an ICalendar (ICS) file and correctly handle timezones. I already created an ICS parser myself but it can only handle timezones known to PHP (like 'Europe/Paris'). Unfortunately, ICS file generated by Evolution (default calendar software of Ubuntu) does not use default timezone IDs. It exports events with its a specific timezone ID exporting also the full definition of the timezone: daylight saving dates, recurrence rule and all the hard stuff to understand about timezones. This is too much for me. Since it was only a small utility for my girlfriend, I won't have time to investigate further the ICalendar specification and create a full blown ICalendar parser myself. So is there any known implementation in PHP of ICalendar file format that can parse timezones definitions?

  How do I override a class special method? I want to be able to call the __str__() method of the class without creating an instance. • Longest keyword chain?

  As I was typing some constants in Java I noticed I had used 4 keywords in a row, which Eclipse highlighted for me: public static final int. I then took a break from my regular coding and asked myself (and google with no relevant results) what the longest chain of keywords I can use and still have valid code. After a while, the best I could come up with was this method definition: public synchronized static final strictfp int a() { ... which is 6 keywords in Java. Is it possible to go 7, or even higher? What about other languages?

• Architectural decision : QT or Eclipse Platform ?

  We are in the process of designing a tool to be used with HDEM(High Definition Electron Microscope).We get stacks of 2D images from HDEM and first step is 'detecting borders' on the sections.After detecting edges of 2D slices ,next step is construct the 3D model using these 2D slices. This 'border detecting' algorithm(s) is/are implemented by one of professor and he has used and suggests to use C.(to gain high performance and probably will parallelise in future) We have to develop comprehensive UI ,3D viewer ,2D editor...etc and use this algorithm. Application should support usual features like project save/open.Undo,Redo...etc Our technology decisions are: A) Build entire platform from the scratch using QT. B) Use Eclipse Platform Our concerns are, if we choose A) we can easily integrate the 'border detecting' algorithm(s) because the development environment is C/C++ But we have to implement the basic features from the scratch. If we choose B) we get basic features from the Eclipse platform , but integrating C libraries going to be a tedious task. Any suggestions on this?

  Can anybody explain the difference in Haskell between the operators ($) and ($!) (dollar sign vs dollar sign exclamation point)? I haven't seen the use of $! anywhere so far, but while browsing through the Haskell reference on www.zvon.org, I noticed its existence and that it has the exact same definition as $. When trying some simple statements in a Haskell interpreter (ghci), I couldn't find any difference, nor could I find any reference to the operator in the top listed tutorials when googling for haskell tutorial. So, just out of curiosity, what is the difference, if at all?

• Using Interfaces in JNI

  I am trying to use (*env)->RegisterNatives to add methods to a defined class which I then add to a callback list. The callback sender of course expects my class to implement a certain interface which I do not. And is failing on execution. If I add the keyword "implements Listener" to my class in Java the javac expects to have the methods definition in Java or with native keyword which I try to avoid here, as I'd like to register the methods within the JNI_OnLoad and execute one of them afterwards. The question now is: Can I implement the interface in JNI or avoid the error message in Java?

  When you create a foreign key constraint in a table and you create the script in MS SQL Management Studio, it looks like this. ALTER TABLE T1 WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT FK_T1 FOREIGN KEY(project_id) REFERENCES T2 (project_id) GO ALTER TABLE T1 CHECK CONSTRAINT FK_T1 GO What I don't understand is what purpose has the second alter with check constraint. Isn't creating the FK constraint enough? Do you have to add the check constraint to assure reference integrity ? Another question: how would it look like then when you'd write it directly in the column definition? CREATE TABLE T1 ( my_column INT NOT NULL CONSTRAINT FK_T1 REFERENCES T2(my_column) ) Isn't this enough?

  Hello, I'm trying to write a Delphi program that will loop through each worksheet in an Excel file and format some cells. I'm receiving an error while trying to use the for-in loop over the Workbook.Worksheets collection, though. The error is specifically: [DCC Error] Office.pas(36): E2431 for-in statement cannot operate on collection type 'Sheets' because 'Sheets' does not contain a member for 'GetEnumerator', or it is inaccessible The line of code this occurs for is: for Worksheet in Workbook.Worksheets do The definition of Worksheet and Workbook is as follows: var ExcelApp: ExcelApplication; var Workbook: ExcelWorkbook; var Worksheet: ExcelWorksheet; I'm porting this code to Delphi from C#, in which it works. • What is a practical, real world example of the Linked List?

  I understand the definition of a Linked List, but how can it be represented and related to a common concept or item? For example, inheritance in OOP can be related to automobiles. All (most) automobiles in real life are the essentially same thing; an automobile has an Engine, you can start() it, you can make the car go(), stop() and so on. An automobile would typically have a maximum passenger capacity but it would differ between a Bus and a SportsCar, which are both automobiles. Is there some real life, intuitive example of the plain ole' singly Linked List like we have with inheritance? The typical textbook Linked List example shows a node with an integer and a pointer to the next, and it just doesn't seem very useful. Your input is appreciated.

  If i have a web application and i receive credit card data transmitted via a POST request by a web browser over HTTPS and instantly open a socket (SSL) to a remote PCI compilant card processor to forward the data and wait for a response, am i allowed to do that? or is this receiving the data with my application and forwarding it already subject of "processing credit card data"? if i create an iframe that is displayed in a client browser to enter cc data and this iframe posts the data via HTTPS to remote card processor (directly!) is this already a case of processing credit card data? even if my application code 'doesnt touch' the entered data with any event handlers? i'm interested in the definition "credit card data processing". when does it start to be a cc data processing application? can somebody maybe point me to that section in PCI-DSS standard that clearly defines when you start to 'be a processing application'? • What is the best solution to do Reporting on Object data for .NET ?

  Hi, Our projects are using objects as the data source to reports. Our business layer is returning single objects or IEnumerable. Our reports (quite complex) need to display value-type properties of the object, and its related objects. Typical case would be, from a List, display a master report with category data, then a subreport with data for each Product inside each Category, then a subreport for each Part of each Product, and so on. Reporting from the database is not an option for us. We have tried so far - Reporting Services : works but have to mess around with the XML definition of the report to define the datasource classes, very hard to work with if you use an object datasource, architecturally not too clean - Telerik Reports : quite nice (esp., nice architecture) but seems to have problems with complex reports (master/sub), does not give great paging control, rumored to have performance/crash problems (immature product). Does anyone know a good reporting solution that can be integrated in an ASP.NET application and works well with objects as datasources ?

• How does mysql define DISTINCT()

  AFAIK SQL defines two uses of DISTINCT keywords - SELECT DISTINCT field... and SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT field) ... However in one of web applications that I administer I've noticed performance issues on queries like SELECT DISTINCT(field1), field2, field3 ... DISTINCT() on a single column makes no sense and I am almost sure it is interpreted as SELECT DISTINCT field1, field2, field3 ... but how can I prove this? I've searched mysql site for a reference on this particular syntax but could not find any. Does anyone have a link to definition of DISTINCT() in mysql or knows about other authoritative source on this? Best

• Silverlight/Web Service Serializing Interface for use Client Side

  I have a Silverlight solution that references a third-party web service. This web service generates XML, which is then processed into objects for use in Silverlight binding. At one point we the processing of XML to objects was done client-side, but we ran into performance issues and decided to move this processing to the proxies in the hosting web project to improve performance (which it did). This is obviously a gross over-simplification, but should work. My basic project structure looks like this. Solution Solution.Web - Holds the web page that hosts Silverlight as well as proxies that access web services and processes as required and obviously the references to those web services). Solution.Infrastructure - Holds references to the proxy web services in the .Web project, all genned code from serialized objects from those proxies and code around those objects that need to be client-side. Solution.Book - The particular project that uses the objects in question after processed down into Infrastructure. I've defined the following Interface and Class in the Web project. They represent the type of objects that the XML from the original third-party gets transformed into and since this is the only project in the Silverlight app that is actually server-side, that was the place to define and use them. //Doesn't get much simpler than this. public interface INavigable { string Description { get; set; } } //Very simple class too public class IndexEntry : INavigable { public List<IndexCM> CMItems { get; set; } public string CPTCode { get; set; } public string DefinitionOfAbbreviations { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string EtiologyCode { get; set; } public bool HighScore { get; set; } public IndexToTabularCommandArguments IndexToTabularCommandArgument { get; set; } public bool IsExpanded { get; set; } public string ManifestationCode { get; set; } public string MorphologyCode { get; set; } public List<TextItem> NonEssentialModifiersAndQualifyingText { get; set; } public string OtherItalics { get; set; } public IndexEntry Parent { get; set; } public int Score { get; set; } public string SeeAlsoReference { get; set; } public string SeeReference { get; set; } public List<IndexEntry> SubEntries { get; set; } public int Words { get; set; } } Again; both of these items are defined in the Web project. Notice that IndexEntry implments INavigable. When the code for IndexEntry is auto-genned in the Infrastructure project, the definition of the class does not include the implmentation of INavigable. After discovering this, I thought "no problem, I'll create another partial class file reiterating the implmentation". Unfortunately (I'm guessing because it isn't being serialized), that interface isn't recognized in the Infrastructure project, so I can't simply do that. Here's where it gets really weird. The BOOK project CAN see the INavigable interface. In fact I use it in Book, though Book has no reference to the Web Service in the Web project where the thing is define, though Infrastructure does. Just as a test, I linked to the INavigable source file from indside the Infrastructure project. That allowed me to reference it in that project and compile, but causes havoc in the Book project, because now there's a conflick between the one define in Infrastructure and the one defined in the Web project's web service. This is behavior I would expect. So, to try and sum up a bit. Web project has a web service that process data from a third-party service and has a class and interface defined in it. The class implements the interface. The Infrastructure project references the web service in the Web Project and the Book project references the Infrastructure project. The implmentation of the interface in the class does NOT serialize down, so the auto-genned code in INfrastructure does not show this relationship, breaking code further down-stream. The Book project, whihc is further down-stream CAN see the interface as defined in the Web Project, even though its only reference is through the Infrastructure project; whihc CAN'T see it. Am I simple missing something easy here? Can I apply an attribute to either the Interface definition or to the its implmentation in the class to ensure its visibility downstream? Anything else I can do here? I know this is a bit convoluted and anyone still with me here, thanks for your patience and any advice you might have. Cheers, Steve

This could be as simple as elems = tree.findall('link[@rel="stylesheet"]') + tree.findall('style') But the problem with CSS style definitions is that the order matters, e.g. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/media/css/first.css" /> <style>body:{font-size: 10px;}</style> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/media/css/second.css" /> if the contents of the style tag is applied after the rules in the two link tags, the result may be completely different from the one where the rules are applied in order of definition. So, how would I do a lookup that inlcudes both link[@rel="stylesheet"] and style?

  I've defined a private class that extends WebViewClient and set my WebView's client to an instance of that class (webView01.setWebViewClient(new Callback());). That time problem was resolved himself (without any actions from my side, with Visual Studio restart). At the moment, I had the same problem on another PC (Vista x64, VS2008, Silverlight 3.0, RIA Services Toolkit): ThomasDomainContext class that inherits DomainContext was not visible from the page's codebehind file. Again, it was resolved after VS restart and after that I got another problem: Error 1 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' does not contain a definition for 'employee' and no extension method 'employee' accepting a first argument of type 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) D:\Project\Budda\VFMElita\VfmElitaSilverlightClient\MainPage.xaml.cs for the following lines of code (error is noticed for the 31st line): 30: var context = new ThomasDomainContext(); 31: grid1.ItemsSource = context.employee; 32: context.Load(context.GetEmployeeQuery()); Any help is welcome.   I have created a feature for SharePoint 2007 that has a web part. I have added a custom property to the web part like so: [Personalizable(PersonalizationScope.Shared)] [WebBrowsable(true)] [Category("My Custom Properties")] [WebDisplayName("ServiceURL")] [WebDescription("The URL for the Wcf service")] public string ServiceURL { get; set; } Along with this web part, I've added a custom page that the web part will have a link to. I would like to reference the web part property from the custom page, but I don't know where these properties are stored. I've tried to access it using the code below, but both property collections don't have any properties stored. SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Properties; or SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Definition.Properties; My question is how can I get a reference to the web part property from other pages?

• Null Inner Bean with Spring IoC

I have a singleton bean definition like this: <bean id="exampleBean" class="com.examples.ExampleBean"> <property name="exampleBean2"> <bean class="com.examples.ExampleBean2" /> </property> </bean> where ExampleBean could be: public class ExampleBean { private ExampleBean2 exampleBean2; public ExampleBean() { } public ExampleBean2 getExampleBean2() { return exampleBean2; } public void setExampleBean2(ExampleBean2 exampleBean2) { this.exampleBean2 = exampleBean2; } } The problem is that, in certain conditions, the com.examples.ExampleBean2 class might not exist at runtime witch will cause an error when the IoC tries to instantiate exampleBean. What I need is to ignore this error from IoC and allow the exampleBean to be created but leaving the exampleBean2 property null. So the question is: is this possible in any way?   How do I get a list of all index & index columns in SQL Server 2005+? What I want is to list all user-defined indexes (which means no indexes which support unique constraints & primary keys) with all columns (ordered by how do they apper in index definition) plus as much metadata as possible.

• Do controls need to be defined in a web app or will .NET do it for you

  I always thought that when you dropped a control onto an .aspx page that a declaration of that control ended up being generated for you (either in a designer file, or within your code behind). All of the apps I have worked on have worked this way. A coworker of mine was installing resharper and it was showing that all her code behind pages would not build. Turned out that resharper could not find a definition for any control that she has dropped onto her markup. She has no designer files, and no declarations in markup. Do they get automatically built when putting together the partial classes? Is there an option at that page/project level to instruct .NET to do this for you? Is this a difference between web app and web site? This is a a .NET 3.5 site, C#, and it is running in a production environment. Thanks in advance
