  I'm having an ArrayIndexOutofBounds exception with the following code. • Shutting down a windows service that has threads

  I have a windows service written in .NET 3.5 (c#) with a System.Threading.Timer that spawns several Threads in each callback. These are just normal threads (no Thread Pool) and I've set the IsBackground = true on each thread since I'm only going to be running managed code. When a user stops the service, what happens to all the threads? Do they die gracefully? I don't have any code that manages the threads via calling join or abort. Is it correct to assume the IsBackground = true is enough to assume the threads will be disposed and stopped when a user stops the service? What exactly happens when someone stops a windows service via the Service Manager GUI? Does it kill the process after it fires the OnStop event? This would actually be acceptable for me because I've built a separate mechanism that allows a user know for sure there are no threads before they stop the service. This is done via 2 WCF methods exposed from a ServiceHost that runs inside the Windows Service. There's one method to stop spawning new threads and another method to query how many running threads there are left. I'm just curious what happens if they skip those steps and just stop the service... It seems the IsBackground helps achieve this:

• How do you save and retrieve a Key/IV pair securely?

  I'm using VB.Net's RijndaelManaged (RM) to encrypt files, using the RM.GenerateKey and RM.GenerateIV methods to generate the Key and IV and encrypting the file using the CryptoStream class. I'm planning on saving this Key and IV to a file and want to make sure I'm doing it the right way. I am combining the IV+Key, and encrypting that with my RSA Public key and writing it out to a file. Then, to decrypt I use the RSA Private key on this file to get the IV+Key, split them up and set RM.Key and RM.IV to these values and run the decryptor. Is this the best method to accomplish this, or is there a preferred method for saving the IV & Key? Also, what's the best way to construct and deconstruct the byte array? I used the .Concat method to join them together and that seems to work well but I can't seem to find something as easy to deconstruct it. I played with the .Take method that takes the first x # of bytes and it works for the first part but can't find anything that gets the rest of it.

• Second Thread Holding Up Entire Program in C# Windows Form Application

  In my windows form application, I'm trying to test the user's ability to access a remote machine's shared folder. The way I'm doing this (and I'm sure that there are better ways...but I don't know of them) is to check for the existence of a specific directory on the remote machine (I'm doing this because of firewall/other security restrictions that I'm confronted with in my organization). If the user has rights to access the shared folder, then it returns in no time at all, but if they don't, it hangs forever. To solve this, I threw the check into another thread and wait only 1000 milliseconds before determining that the share can't be hit by the user. However, when I do this, it still hangs as if it was never run in the same thread. What is making it hang and how do I fix it? I would think that the fact that it is in a separate thread would allow me to just let the thread finish on it's own in the background. • Optimzing TSQL code

  My job is the maintain one application which heavy use SQL server (MSSQL2005). Until now middle server stores TSQL codes in XML and send dynamic TSQL queries without using stored procs. As I am able change those XML queries I want to migrate most of my queries to stored procs. Question is folowing: Most of my queries have same Where conditions against one table Sample: Select ..... from .... where .... and (a.vrsta_id = @vrsta_id or @vrsta_id = 0) and (a.podvrsta_id = @podvrsta_id or @podvrsta_id = 0) and (a.podgrupa_2 = @podgrupa2_id or @podgrupa2_id = 0) and ( (a.id in (select art_id from osobina_veze where podosobina_id in (select ado from dbo.fn_ado_param_int(@podosobina)) group by art_id having count(art_id)= @podosobina_count )) or ('0' = @podosobina) ) They also have same where conditions on other table. How I should organize my code ? What is proper way ? Should I make table valued function that I will use in all queries or use #Temp tables and simple inner join my query to that each time when proc executing? or use #temp filed by table valued function ? or leave all queries with this large where clause and hope that index is going to do their jobs. or use WITH(statement)

• Python subprocess: 64 bit windows server PIPE doesn't exist :(

  I have a GUI that launches selected python scripts and runs it in cmd next to the gui window. I am able to get my launcher to work on my (windows xp 32 bit) laptop but when I upload it to the server(64bit windows iss7) I am running into some issues. The script runs, to my knowledge but spits back no information into the cmd window. My script is a bit of a Frankenstein that I have hacked and slashed together to get it to work I am fairly certain that this is a very bad example of the subprocess module. Just wondering if i could get a hand :). • Find out which row caused the error

  I have a big fat query that's written dynamically to integrate some data. Basically what it does is query some tables, join some other ones, treat some data, and then insert it into a final table. The problem is that there's too much data, and we can't really trust the sources, because there could be some errored or inconsistent data. For example, I've spent almost an hour looking for an error while developing using a customer's database because somewhere in the middle of my big fat query there was an error converting some varchar to datetime. It turned out to be that they had some sales dating '2009-02-29', an out-of-range date. And yes, I know. Why was that stored as varchar? Well, the source database has 3 columns for dates, 'Month', 'Day' and 'Year'. I have no idea why it's like that, but still, it is. But how the hell would I treat that, if the source is not trustable? I can't HANDLE exceptions, I really need that it comes up to another level with the original message, but I wanted to provide some more info, so that the user could at least try to solve it before calling us. So I thought about displaying to the user the row number, or some ID that would at least give him some idea of what record he'd have to correct. That's also a hard job because there will be times when the integration will run up to 80000 records. And in an 80000 records integration, a single dummy error message: 'The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value' means nothing at all. So any idea would be appreciated. Oh I'm using SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack 3.

  I'm hesitant to ask because I'm sure it's out there, but I just can't seem to come up with the keywords to find the answer. I'm stepping outside my boundaries by starting with subqueries (normally an Access user). I have a query that has TECH_ID, SEQ_NBR, and PELL_FT_AWD_AMT SELECT ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.PELL_FT_AWD_AMT, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.SEQ_NBR FROM ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT GROUP BY ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.PELL_FT_AWD_AMT, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.SEQ_NBR HAVING (((ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR)="2013")) ORDER BY ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID; What I want to return is add a subquery that selects only the max SEQ_NUM for each record, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. In the past I would cheat and have a separate query that first gave me the TECH_ID and max SEQ_NUM, and then have a second query that use the original table and the first query in a join to get the rest. How can I do this in one query? Example: TECH_ID SEQ_NUM PELL 1 1 4000 1 2 4000 1 3 5000 Using just the max of the sequence number still returns: 1; 2; 4000 and 1; 3; 5000 when I'm only wanting the latter.

• Python: How can I use Twisted as the transport for SUDS?

  I have a project that is based on Twisted used to communicate with network devices and I am adding support for a new vendor (Citrix NetScaler) whose API is SOAP. Unfortunately the support for SOAP in Twisted still relies on SOAPpy, which is badly out of date. In fact as of this question (I just checked), twisted.web.soap itself hasn't even been updated in 21 months! I would like to ask if anyone has any experience they would be willing to share with utilizing Twisted's superb asynchronous transport functionality with SUDS. It seems like plugging in a custom Twisted transport would be a natural fit in SUDS' Client.options.transport, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I did come up with a way to call the SOAP method with SUDS asynchronously by utilizing twisted.internet.threads.deferToThread(), but this feels like a hack to me. I'm connecting to the network through WiFi. It works, I can access the internet through my phone and I've configured my router. The application stops when I'm trying to connect. • Hibernate: deletes not cascading for self-referencing entities

The relationships are required to be ManyToOne (Package to Content) and ManyToMany (Content to sub-Contents) but for the case I am currently testing each sub-Content only relates to one Package or Content. The problem is that when I delete a Package and flush the session, I get a Hibernate error stating that I'm violating a foreign key constraint on table subcontents, with a particular content_id still referenced from table subcontents. I've tried specifically (recursively) deleting the Contents before deleting the Package but I get the same error. Is there a reason why this entity tree is not being deleted properly?

  I've got two models, a Product model and a ShoppingCart model. The ShoppingCart model has a collection of products as a property called Products (List). • iPad width in viewport settings overflowing past device width

  I am at my wit's end here, and I beseech the fine folks here at stackoverflow for help. I am working on a design for a blog for a friend of mine, and I'm working in HTML5. I am trying to get the width of the page to span the width of an iPad. So, in my document head, I have the following: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0"> Now, if you go to the index page, on an iPad, it looks just fine. The width of the page spans the width of the iPad in portrait mode, as I expect it to: http://www.alanreuterart.com/femmegamers/index.html It also looks fine on any individual blog posts as well. However, on the "about" and "join" pages, the width does not do this. It's actually overflowing past the length of the iPad to the right. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get it those two pages to correctly span the device width of the iPad. One important note, though: before anyone tells me to set my viewport width to 960, I cannot do that because the pages have media queries in them to convert to a mobile layout for the iPhone and other mobile phones. • Mysql select - improve performance

  Hey, I am working on an e-shop which sells products only via loans. I display 10 products per page in any category, each product has 3 different price tags - 3 different loan types. Everything went pretty well during testing time, query execution time was perfect, but today when transfered the changes to the production server, the site "collapsed" in about 2 minutes. The query that is used to select loan types sometimes hangs for ~10 seconds and it happens frequently and thus it cant keep up and its hella slow. The table that is used to store the data has approximately 2 milion records and each select looks like this: SELECT * FROM products_loans WHERE KOD IN("X17/Q30-10", "X17/12", "X17/5-24") AND 369.27 BETWEEN CENA_OD AND CENA_DO; 3 loan types and the price that needs to be in range between CENA_OD and CENA_DO, thus 3 rows are returned. But since I need to display 10 products per page, I need to run it trough a modified select using OR, since I didnt find any other solution to this. I have asked about it here, but got no answer. As mentioned in the referencing post, this has to be done separately since there is no column that could be used in a join (except of course price and code, but that ended very, very badly). Here is the show create table, kod and CENA_OD/CENA_DO very indexed via INDEX.   I'm running into my own limits of MySQL query skills, so I hope some SQL guru can help out on this one. The situation is as follow: I have images that can be tagged. As you might expect this is stored in three tables: Image Tag Tag_map (maps images to tags) I have a SQL query that calculates the related tags based on a tag id. The query basically checks what other tags were used for images for images using that tag. Example: Image1 tagged as "Bear" Image2 tagged as "Bear" and "Canada" If I throw "Bear" (or its tag id) at the query, it will return "Canada". This works fine. Here's the query: SELECT tag.name, tag.id, COUNT(tag_map.id) as cnt FROM tag_map,tag WHERE tag_map.tag_id = tag.id AND tag.id != '185' AND tag_map.image_id IN (SELECT tag_map.image_id FROM tag_map INNER JOIN tag ON tag_map.tag_id = tag.id WHERE tag.id = '185') GROUP BY tag_map.id LIMIT 0,100 The part I'm stuck with is the count. For each related tag returned, I want to know how many images are in that tag. Currently it always returns 1, even if there are for example 3. I've tried counting different columns all resulting in the same output, so I guess there is a flaw in my thinking.

The T-SQL code does exactly what I want, which is to make a single result based on the results of a query, which will then be used in another query. However, I can't figure out how the SELECT @column_list =... statement is putting multiple values into a single string of characters by being inside a SELECT statement. Without the assignment to @column_list, the SELECT statement would simply return multiple rows. How is it that by having the variable within the SELECT statement that the results get "flattened" down into one value? How should I read this T-SQL to properly understand what's going on?

• javaScript .splice() not working on correctly

  I am setting a cookie for each navigation container that is clicked on. It sets an array that is joined and set the cookie value. if its clicked again then its removed from the array. It somehow buggy. It only splices after clicking on other elements. and then it behaves weird. For one, when I add 0 to a queue and then I output the queue like so.. Queue<double> qdub; qdub.enqueue(0); cout << qdub << endl; That works, it will output 0. But for example, if I modify that queue in any way.. like.. assign it to a different queue.. Queue<double> qdub1; Queue<double> qdub2; qdub1.enqueue(0; qdub2 = qdub1; cout << qdub2 << endl; It will give me weird values for 0 like.. 7.86914e-316. Help on this would be much appreciated!

• Execute function without sending 'self' to it

  Is that possible to define a function without referencing to self this way? def myfunc(var_a,var_b) But so that it could also get sender data, like if I defined it like this: def myfunc(self, var_a,var_b) That self is always the same so it looks a little redundant here always to run a function this way: myfunc(self,'data_a','data_b').
