  • Change a File Type’s Icon in Windows 7

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    In Windows XP, you could change the icon associated with a file type in Windows Explorer. In Windows 7, you have to do some registry hacking to change a file type’s icon. We’ll show you a much easier and faster method for Windows 7. File Types Manager File Types Manager is a great little utility from NirSoft that includes the functionality of Windows XP’s folder options and adds a whole lot more. It works great in Windows 7, and its interface makes it easy to change a bunch of related file types at once. A common problem we run into are icons that look too similar. You have to look for a few seconds to see the difference between the movies and the text files. Let’s change the icon for the movie files to make visually scanning through directories much easier. Open up File Types Manager. Find the “Default Icon” column and click on it to sort the list by the Default Icon. (We’ve hidden a bunch of columns we don’t need, so you may find it to be farther to the right.) This groups together all file extensions that already have the same icon. This is convenient because we want to change the icon of all video files, which at the moment all have the same default icon. Click the “Find” button on the toolbar, of press Ctrl+F. Type in a file type that you want to change. Note that all of the extensions with the same default icon are grouped together. Right click on the first extension whose icon you want to change and click on Edit Selected File Type, or select the first extension and press F2. Click the “…” button next to the Default Icon text field. Click on the Browse… button. File Types Manager allows you to select .exe, .dll, or .ico files. In our case, we have a .ico file that we took from the wonderful public domain Tango icon library. Select the appropriate icon (if you’re using a .exe or .dll there could be many possible icons) then click OK. Repeat this process for each extension whose icon you would like to change. Now it’s much easier to see at a glance which files are movies and which are text files! Of course, this process will work for any file type, so customize your files’ icons as you see fit. • The new Auto Scaling Service in Windows Azure

    - by shiju
    One of the key features of the Cloud is the on-demand scalability, which lets the cloud application developers to scale up or scale down the number of compute resources hosted on the Cloud. Auto Scaling provides the capability to dynamically scale up and scale down your compute resources based on user-defined policies, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), health status checks, and schedules, without any manual intervention. Auto Scaling is an important feature to consider when designing and architecting cloud based solutions, which can unleash the real power of Cloud to the apps for providing truly on-demand scalability and can also guard the organizational budget for cloud based application deployment. In the past, you have had to leverage the the Microsoft Enterprise Library Autoscaling Application Block (WASABi) or a services like  MetricsHub for implementing Automatic Scaling for your cloud apps hosted on the Windows Azure. The WASABi required to host your auto scaling block in a Windows Azure Worker Role for effectively implementing the auto scaling behaviour to your Windows Azure apps. The newly announced Auto Scaling service in Windows Azure lets you add automatic scaling capability to your Windows Azure Compute Services such as Cloud Services, Web Sites and Virtual Machine. Unlike WASABi hosted on a Worker Role, you don’t need to host any monitoring service for using the new Auto Scaling service and the Auto Scaling service will be available to individual Windows Azure Compute Services as part of the Scaling. Configure Auto Scaling for a Windows Azure Cloud Service Currently the Auto Scaling service supports Cloud Services, Web Sites and Virtual Machine. In this demo, I will be used a Cloud Services app with a Web Role and a Worker Role. To enable the Auto Scaling, select t your Windows Azure app in the Windows Azure management portal, and choose “SCLALE” tab. The Scale tab will show the all information regards with Auto Scaling. The below image shows that we have currently disabled the AutoScale service. To enable Auto Scaling, you need to choose either CPU or QUEUE. The QUEUE option is not available for Web Sites. The image below demonstrates how to configure Auto Scaling for a Web Role based on the utilization of CPU. We have configured the web role app for running with 1 to 5 Virtual Machine instances based on the CPU utilization with a range of 50 to 80%. If the aggregate utilization is becoming above above 80%, it will scale up instances and it will scale down instances when utilization is becoming below 50%. The image below demonstrates how to configure Auto Scaling for a Worker Role app based on the messages added into the Windows Azure storage Queue. We configured the worker role app for running with 1 to 3 Virtual Machine instances based on the Queue messages added into the Windows Azure storage Queue. Here we have specified the number of messages target per machine is 2000. The image below shows the summary of the Auto Scaling for the Cloud Service after configuring auto scaling service. Summary Auto Scaling is an extremely important behaviour of the Cloud applications for providing on-demand scalability without any manual intervention. Windows Azure provides greater support for enabling Auto Scaling for the apps deployed on the Windows Azure cloud platform. The new Auto Scaling service in Windows Azure lets you add automatic scaling capability to your Windows Azure Compute Services such as Cloud Services, Web Sites and Virtual Machine. In the new Auto Scaling service, you don’t have to host any monitor service like you have had in WASABi block. The Auto Scaling service is an excellent alternative to the manually hosting WASABi block in a Worker Role app.

  • Use Case Actors - Primary versus Secondary

    - by Dave Burke
    The Unified Modeling Language (UML1) defines an Actor (from UseCases) as: An actor specifies a role played by a user or any other system that interacts with the subject. In Alistair Cockburn’s book “Writing Effective Use Cases” (2) Actors are further defined as follows: Primary Actor: The primary actor of a use case is the stakeholder that calls on the system to deliver one of its services. It has a goal with respect to the system – one that can be satisfied by its operation. The primary actor is often, but not always, the actor who triggers the use case. Supporting Actors: A supporting actor in a use case in an external actor that provides a service to the system under design. It might be a high-speed printer, a web service, or humans that have to do some research and get back to us. In a 2006 article (3) Cockburn refined the definitions slightly to read: Primary Actors: The Actor(s) using the system to achieve a goal. The Use Case documents the interactions between the system and the actors to achieve the goal of the primary actor. Secondary Actors: Actors that the system needs assistance from to achieve the primary actor’s goal. Finally, the Oracle Unified Method (OUM) concurs with the UML definition of Actors, along with Cockburn’s refinement, but OUM also includes the following: Secondary actors may or may not have goals that they expect to be satisfied by the use case, the primary actor always has a goal, and the use case exists to satisfy the primary actor. Now that we are on the same “page”, let’s consider two examples: A bank loan officer wants to review a loan application from a customer, and part of the process involves a real-time credit rating check. Use Case Name: Review Loan Application Primary Actor: Loan Officer Secondary Actors: Credit Rating System A Human Resources manager wants to change the job code of an employee, and as part of the process, automatically notify several other departments within the company of the change. Use Case Name: Maintain Job Code Primary Actor: Human Resources Manager Secondary Actors: None The first example is quite straight forward; we need to define the Secondary Actor because without the “Credit Rating System” we cannot successfully complete the Use Case. In other words, the goal of the Primary Actor is to successfully complete the Loan Application, but they need the explicit “help” of the Secondary Actor (Credit Rating System) to achieve this goal. The second example is where people sometimes get confused. Within OUM we would not include the “other departments” as Secondary Actors and therefore not include them on the Use Case diagram for the following reasons: The other departments are not required for the successful completion of the Use Case We are not expecting any response from the other departments (at least within the bounds of the Use Case under discussion) Having said that, within the detail of the Use Case Specification Main Success Scenario, we would include something like: “The system sends a notification to the related department heads (ref. Business Rule BR101)” Now let’s consider one final example. A Procurement Manager wants to place a “bid” for some goods using an On-Line Trading Community (B2B version of eBay) Use Case Name: Create Bid Primary Actor: Procurement Manager Secondary Actors: On-Line Trading Community You might wonder why the Trading Community is listed as a Secondary Actor, i.e. if all we are going to do is place a bid for a specific quantity of goods at a given price and send that off to the Trading Community, then why would the Trading Community need to “assist” in that Use Case? Well, once again, it comes back to the “User Experience” and how we want to optimize that when we think about our Use Case, and ultimately, when the developer comes to assembling some code. In this final example, the Procurement Manager cannot successfully complete the “Create Bid” Use Case until they receive an affirmative confirmation back from the Trading Community that the Bid has been accepted. Therefore, the Trading Community must become a Secondary Actor and be referenced both on the Use Case diagram and Use Case Specification. Any astute readers who are wondering about the “single sitting” rule will have to wait for a follow-up Blog entry to find out how that consideration can be factored in!!! Happy Use Case writing! • Tuning Default WorkManager - Advantages and Disadvantages

    - by Murali Veligeti
    Before discussing on Tuning Default WorkManager, lets have a brief introduction on What is Default WorkManger Before Weblogic Server 9.0 release, we had the concept of Execute Queues. WebLogic Server (before WLS 9.0), processing was performed in multiple execute queues. Different classes of work were executed in different queues, based on priority and ordering requirements, and to avoid deadlocks. In addition to the default execute queue, weblogic.kernel.default, there were pre-configured queues dedicated to internal administrative traffic, such as weblogic.admin.HTTP and weblogic.admin.RMI.Users could control thread usage by altering the number of threads in the default queue, or configure custom execute queues to ensure that particular applications had access to a fixed number of execute threads, regardless of overall system load. From WLS 9.0 release onwards WebLogic Server uses is a single thread pool (single thread pool which is called Default WorkManager), in which all types of work are executed. WebLogic Server prioritizes work based on rules you define, and run-time metrics, including the actual time it takes to execute a request and the rate at which requests are entering and leaving the pool.The common thread pool changes its size automatically to maximize throughput. The queue monitors throughput over time and based on history, determines whether to adjust the thread count. For example, if historical throughput statistics indicate that a higher thread count increased throughput, WebLogic increases the thread count. Similarly, if statistics indicate that fewer threads did not reduce throughput, WebLogic decreases the thread count. This new strategy makes it easier for administrators to allocate processing resources and manage performance, avoiding the effort and complexity involved in configuring, monitoring, and tuning custom executes queues. The Default WorkManager is used to handle thread management and perform self-tuning.This Work Manager is used by an application when no other Work Managers are specified in the application’s deployment descriptors. In many situations, the default Work Manager may be sufficient for most application requirements. WebLogic Server’s thread-handling algorithms assign each application its own fair share by default. Applications are given equal priority for threads and are prevented from monopolizing them. The default work-manager, as its name tells, is the work-manager defined by default.Thus, all applications deployed on WLS will use it. But sometimes, when your application is already in production, it's obvious you can't take your EAR / WAR, update the deployment descriptor(s) and redeploy it.The default work-manager belongs to a thread-pool, as initial thread-pool comes with only five threads, that's not much. If your application has to face a large number of hits, you may want to start with more than that.Well, that's quite easy. You have  two option to do so.1) Modify the config.xmlJust add the following line(s) in your server definition : <server> <name>AdminServer</name> <self-tuning-thread-pool-size-min>100</self-tuning-thread-pool-size-min> <self-tuning-thread-pool-size-max>200</self-tuning-thread-pool-size-max> [...] </server> 2) Adding some JVM parameters Add the following system property in setDomainEnv.sh/setDomainEnv.cmd or startWebLogic.sh/startWebLogic.cmd : -Dweblogic.threadpool.MinPoolSize=100 -Dweblogic.threadpool.MaxPoolSize=100 Reboot WLS and see the option has been taken into account . Disadvantage: So far its fine. But here there is an disadvantage in tuning Default WorkManager. Internally Weblogic Server has many work managers configured for different types of work.  if we run out of threads in the self-tuning pool(because of system property -Dweblogic.threadpool.MaxPoolSize) due to being undersized, then important work that WLS might need to do could be starved.  So, while limiting the self-tuning would limit the default WorkManager and internally it also limits all other internal WorkManagers which WLS uses.So the best alternative is to override the default WorkManager that means creating a WorkManager for the Application and assign the WorkManager for the application instead of tuning the Default WorkManager.

  • SQL SERVER – Unable to DELETE Project in Data Quality Projects (DQS)

    - by pinaldave
    Here is the email which made me write this blog post. When I write a blog post I write keeping in mind that if the developer is not familiar with the concept he will attempt this on the development server. If due to any reason you attempt it on any other server than your personal server, developer should make sure to have complete confidence on his own expertise and understand the risk behind it.  Well, let us read the email which I received. I have modified it a bit to remove information related to organizational and individual. “I just read your blog post on Beginning DQS. I went ahead and followed every single screenshot and it worked fine. I was able to execute the DQS project successfully. However, the same blog post got me in trouble – a serious trouble. After first successful deployment I went ahead and created a few of my own knowledge base and projects. I played around a bit and then decided to get back to real work. Now we had deployed DQS on production server only, so experiment on production server. Now, when I got back to my work, I forgot to close all the windows. My manager found the window open and have seen my test projects. He has asked me to delete my experiments immediately and have said words which I cannot write to you. Here is the problem. I am not able to delete the project which I have created earlier. I am able to open it and play with it but the delete option is disabled and grayed out (see attached image). Now I believe there is nothing wrong with this project as it was just a test project. Would you please write to my manager that it is not harmful to leave that project there as it is? It is also not using any resources. I think he will believe you.” As I said this kind of email makes me uncomfortable. I do not want someone to execute anything on production server. I often write notes and disclaimer on my post when something is dangerous to execute on production server. However, if someone is not expert with SQL Server and attempts something new on production server, I think the major issue is here with the person (admin) who gave new developer permission to production server. This has to be carefully avoided. Here was my response to the individual. “I cannot write to your manager anything as he has not asked me anything. Honestly I believe he is correct in his behavior as you should have not executed anything on the production server without prior approval and testing on the development server. Any R&D must be done on local box or development box. I suggest you request your manager to prevent access to users who does not need access. If he is a good manager, he might have already implemented by now recent event. I also see your screenshot. Here is the issue: While you were playing with project, you might have closed the project half the way, without completing it. Due to the same reason it is locked. You can open and continue from the same place where you have left the project. If you do not need the project any more. Right click on it, click on unlock the project. This will enable the DELETE option and now you can delete the project. Next time, be safe out there. It may be dangerous to have admin access to production server when not needed.“ I have yet not heard from him but I believe he will take my words positively. • Json.Net Issues: StackOverflowException is thrown when serialising circular dependent ISerializable object with ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore

    - by keyr
    I have a legacy application that used binary serialisation to persist the data. Now we wanted to use Json.net 4.5 to serialise the data without much changes to the existing classes. Things were working nice till we hit a circular dependent class. Is there any workaround to solve this problem? Sample code as shown below [Serializable] class Department : ISerializable { public Employee Manager { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public Department() { } public Department( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { Manager = ( Employee )info.GetValue( "Manager", typeof( Employee ) ); Name = ( string )info.GetValue( "Name", typeof( string ) ); } public void GetObjectData( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { info.AddValue( "Manager", Manager ); info.AddValue( "Name", Name ); } } [Serializable] class Employee : ISerializable { [NonSerialized] //This does not work [XmlIgnore]//This does not work private Department mDepartment; public Department Department { get { return mDepartment; } set { mDepartment = value; } } public string Name { get; set; } public Employee() { } public Employee( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { Department = ( Department )info.GetValue( "Department", typeof( Department ) ); Name = ( string )info.GetValue( "Name", typeof( string ) ); } public void GetObjectData( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { info.AddValue( "Department", Department ); info.AddValue( "Name", Name ); } } And the test code Department department = new Department(); department.Name = "Dept1"; Employee emp1 = new Employee { Name = "Emp1", Department = department }; department.Manager = emp1; Employee emp2 = new Employee() { Name = "Emp2", Department = department }; IList<Employee> employees = new List<Employee>(); employees.Add( emp1 ); employees.Add( emp2 ); var memoryStream = new MemoryStream(); var formatter = new BinaryFormatter(); formatter.Serialize( memoryStream, employees ); memoryStream.Seek( 0, SeekOrigin.Begin ); IList<Employee> deserialisedEmployees = formatter.Deserialize( memoryStream ) as IList<Employee>; //Works nicely JsonSerializerSettings jsonSS= new JsonSerializerSettings(); jsonSS.TypeNameHandling = TypeNameHandling.Objects; jsonSS.TypeNameAssemblyFormat = FormatterAssemblyStyle.Full; jsonSS.Formatting = Formatting.Indented; jsonSS.ReferenceLoopHandling = ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore; //This is not working!! //jsonSS.ReferenceLoopHandling = ReferenceLoopHandling.Serialize; //This is also not working!! jsonSS.PreserveReferencesHandling = PreserveReferencesHandling.All; string jsonAll = JsonConvert.SerializeObject( employees, jsonSS ); //Throws stackoverflow exception Edit1: The issue has been reported to Json (http://json.codeplex.com/workitem/23668)

  • How to get a safecontrol entry into manifest.xml with WSPBuilder project

    - by andrew
    Upon taking the default sharepoint master page for MySite, making some changes, and making a wsp out of it with WSPBuilder, I come to these errors in my logs: http://spoint/MySite/%5Fcatalogs/masterpage/MySite.master - An unexpected error has been encountered in this Web Part. And I guess I want to do this via the manifest.xml. But I do not see how to make WSPBuilder do this.

  • How to fix a NHibernate lazy loading error "no session or session was closed"?

    - by MCardinale
    I'm developing a website with ASP.NET MVC, NHibernate and Fluent Hibernate and getting the error "no session or session was closed" when I try to access a child object. These are my domain classes: public class ImageGallery { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Title { get; set; } public virtual IList<Image> Images { get; set; } } public class Image { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual ImageGallery ImageGallery { get; set; } public virtual string File { get; set; } } These are my maps: public class ImageGalleryMap:ClassMap<ImageGallery> { public ImageGalleryMap() { Id(x => x.Id); Map(x => x.Title); HasMany(x => x.Images); } } public class ImageMap:ClassMap<Image> { public ImageMap() { Id(x => x.Id); References(x => x.ImageGallery); Map(x => x.File); } } And this is my Session Factory helper class: public class NHibernateSessionFactory { private static ISessionFactory _sessionFactory; private static ISessionFactory SessionFactory { get { if(_sessionFactory == null) { _sessionFactory = Fluently.Configure() .Database(MySQLConfiguration.Standard.ConnectionString(MyConnString)) .Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<ImageGalleryMap>()) .ExposeConfiguration(c => c.Properties.Add("hbm2ddl.keywords", "none")) .BuildSessionFactory(); } return _sessionFactory; } } public static ISession OpenSession() { return SessionFactory.OpenSession(); } } Everything works fine, when I get ImageGallery from database using this code: IImageGalleryRepository igr = new ImageGalleryRepository(); ImageGallery ig = igr.GetById(1); But, when I try to access the Image child object with this code string imageFile = ig.Images[1].File; I get this error: Initializing[Entities.ImageGallery#1]-failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: Entities.ImageGallery.Images, no session or session was closed Someone know how can I fix this? Thank you very much!

  • Issue with Sharepoint 2010 application page

    - by Matt Moriarty
    I am relatively new to Sharepoint and am using version 2010. I am having a problem with the following code in an application page I am trying to build: using System; using Microsoft.SharePoint; using Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls; using System.Text; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration; using Microsoft.Office.Server; using Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles; using Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities; namespace SharePointProject5.Layouts.SharePointProject5 { public partial class ApplicationPage1 : LayoutsPageBase { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { SPContext context = SPContext.Current; StringBuilder output = new StringBuilder(); using(SPSite site = context.Site) using (SPWeb web = site.AllWebs["BDC_SQL"]) { UserProfileManager upmanager = new UserProfileManager(ServerContext.GetContext(site)); string ListMgr = ""; string ADMgr = ""; bool allowUpdates = web.AllowUnsafeUpdates; web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; web.Update(); SPListCollection listcollection = web.Lists; SPList list = listcollection["BDC_SQL"]; foreach (SPListItem item in list.Items) { output.AppendFormat("<br>From List - Name & manager: {0} , {1}", item["ADName"], item["Manager_ADName"]); UserProfile uProfile = upmanager.GetUserProfile(item["ADName"].ToString()); output.AppendFormat("<br>From Prof - Name & manager: {0} , {1}", uProfile[PropertyConstants.DistinguishedName], uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager]); ListMgr = item["Manager_ADName"].ToString(); ADMgr = Convert.ToString(uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager]); if (ListMgr != ADMgr) { output.AppendFormat("<br>This record requires updating from {0} to {1}", uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager], item["Manager_ADName"]); uProfile[PropertyConstants.Manager].Value = ListMgr; uProfile.Commit(); output.AppendFormat("<br>This record has had its manager updated"); } else { output.AppendFormat("<br>This record does not need to be updated"); } } web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = allowUpdates; web.Update(); } Label1.Text = output.ToString(); } } } Everything worked fine up until I added in the 'uProfile.Commit();' line.   • Setting up a VPN connection to Amazon VPC - routing

    - by Keeno
    I am having some real issues setting up a VPN between out office and AWS VPC. The "tunnels" appear to be up, however I don't know if they are configured correctly. The device I am using is a Netgear VPN Firewall - FVS336GV2 If you see in the attached config downloaded from VPC (#3 Tunnel Interface Configuration), it gives me some "inside" addresses for the tunnel. When setting up the IPsec tunnels do I use the inside tunnel IP's (e.g. 169.254.254.2/30) or do I use my internal network subnet (10.1.1.0/24) I have tried both, when I tried the local network (10.1.1.x) the tracert stops at the router. When I tried with the "inside" ips, the tracert to the amazon VPC (10.0.0.x) goes out over the internet. this all leads me to the next question, for this router, how do I set up stage #4, the static next hop? What are these seemingly random "inside" addresses and where did amazon generate them from? 169.254.254.x seems odd? With a device like this, is the VPN behind the firewall? I have tweaked any IP addresses below so that they are not "real". I am fully aware, this is probably badly worded. Please if there is any further info/screenshots that will help, let me know. Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Cloud IPSec Tunnel #1 ================================================================================ #1: Internet Key Exchange Configuration Configure the IKE SA as follows - Authentication Method : Pre-Shared Key - Pre-Shared Key : --- - Authentication Algorithm : sha1 - Encryption Algorithm : aes-128-cbc - Lifetime : 28800 seconds - Phase 1 Negotiation Mode : main - Perfect Forward Secrecy : Diffie-Hellman Group 2 #2: IPSec Configuration Configure the IPSec SA as follows: - Protocol : esp - Authentication Algorithm : hmac-sha1-96 - Encryption Algorithm : aes-128-cbc - Lifetime : 3600 seconds - Mode : tunnel - Perfect Forward Secrecy : Diffie-Hellman Group 2 IPSec Dead Peer Detection (DPD) will be enabled on the AWS Endpoint. We recommend configuring DPD on your endpoint as follows: - DPD Interval : 10 - DPD Retries : 3 IPSec ESP (Encapsulating Security Payload) inserts additional headers to transmit packets. These headers require additional space, which reduces the amount of space available to transmit application data. To limit the impact of this behavior, we recommend the following configuration on your Customer Gateway: - TCP MSS Adjustment : 1387 bytes - Clear Don't Fragment Bit : enabled - Fragmentation : Before encryption #3: Tunnel Interface Configuration Your Customer Gateway must be configured with a tunnel interface that is associated with the IPSec tunnel. All traffic transmitted to the tunnel interface is encrypted and transmitted to the Virtual Private Gateway. The Customer Gateway and Virtual Private Gateway each have two addresses that relate to this IPSec tunnel. Each contains an outside address, upon which encrypted traffic is exchanged. Each also contain an inside address associated with the tunnel interface. The Customer Gateway outside IP address was provided when the Customer Gateway was created. Changing the IP address requires the creation of a new Customer Gateway. The Customer Gateway inside IP address should be configured on your tunnel interface. Outside IP Addresses: - Customer Gateway : 217.33.22.33 - Virtual Private Gateway : 87.222.33.42 Inside IP Addresses - Customer Gateway : 169.254.254.2/30 - Virtual Private Gateway : 169.254.254.1/30 Configure your tunnel to fragment at the optimal size: - Tunnel interface MTU : 1436 bytes #4: Static Routing Configuration: To route traffic between your internal network and your VPC, you will need a static route added to your router. The VGW will then send traffic towards your internal network over the tunnels. The VGW will then send traffic towards your internal network over the tunnels. EDIT #1 After writing this post, I continued to fiddle and something started to work, just not very reliably. The local IPs to use when setting up the tunnels where indeed my network subnets. Which further confuses me over what these "inside" IP addresses are for. The problem is, results are not consistent what so ever. I can "sometimes" ping, I can "sometimes" RDP using the VPN. Sometimes, Tunnel 1 or Tunnel 2 can be up or down. When I came back into work today, Tunnel 1 was down, so I deleted it and re-created it from scratch. Now I cant ping anything, but Amazon AND the router are telling me tunnel 1/2 are fine. I guess the router/vpn hardware I have just isnt up to the job..... EDIT #2 Now Tunnel 1 is up, Tunnel 2 is down (I didn't change any settings) and I can ping/rdp again. EDIT #3 Screenshot of route table that the router has built up. Current state (tunnel 1 still up and going string, 2 is still down and wont re-connect)

  • One-to-one Mapping issue with NHibernate/Fluent: Foreign Key not updateing

    - by Trevor
    Summary: Parent and Child class. One to one relationship between the Parent and Child. Parent has a FK property which references the primary key of the Child. Code as follows: public class NHTestParent { public virtual Guid NHTestParentId { get; set; } public virtual Guid ChildId { get { return ChildRef.NHTestChildId; } set { } } public virtual string ParentName { get; set; } protected NHTestChild _childRef; public virtual NHTestChild ChildRef { get { if (_childRef == null) _childRef = new NHTestChild(); return _childRef; } set { _childRef = value; } } } public class NHTestChild { public virtual Guid NHTestChildId { get; set; } public virtual string ChildName { get; set; } } With the following Fluent mappings: Parent Mapping Id(x => x.NHTestParentId); Map(x => x.ParentName); Map(x => x.ChildId); References(x => x.ChildRef, "ChildId").Cascade.All(); Child Mapping: Id(x => x.NHTestChildId); Map(x => x.ChildName); If I do something like (pseudo code) ... HTestParent parent = new NHTestParent(); parent.ParentName = "Parent 1"; parent.ChildRef.ChildName = "Child 1"; nhibernateSession.SaveOrUpdate(aParent); Commit; ... I get an error: "Invalid index 3 for this SqlParameterCollection with Count=3" If I change the parent 'References' line as follows (i.e. provide the name of the child property I'm pointing at): References(x => x.ChildRef, "ChildId").PropertyRef("NHTestChildId").Cascade.All(); I get the error: "Unable to resolve property: NHTestChildId" So, I tried the 'HasOne()' reference setting, as follows: HasOne<NHTestChild>(x => x.ChildRef).ForeignKey("ChildId").Cascade.All().Fetch.Join(); This results in the save working, but the load fails to find the child. If I inspect the SQL Nhibernate produces I can see that NHibernate is assuming the Primary key of the parent is the link to the child (i.e. load join condition is "parent.NHTestParentId = child.NHTestChildId). The 'ForeignKey' specified appears to be ignored. I can set any value and no error occurs - the join just always fails and no child is returned. I've tried a number of slight variations on the above. It seems like it should be a simple thing to achieve. Any ideas?

    i wrote a cuda program and i am testing it on ubuntu as a virtual machine. the reason for this is i have windows 7, i don't want to install ubuntu as a secondary operating system, and i need to use a linux operating system for testing. my question is: will the virtual machine limit the gpu resources? So will my cuda code be faster if i run it under my primary operating system than running it on a virtual machine?

  • LDAP query on linux against AD returns groups with no members

    - by SethG
    I am using LDAP+kerberos to authenticate against Active Directory on Windows 2003 R2. My krb5.conf and ldap.conf appear to be correct (according to pretty much every sample I found on the 'net). I can login to the host with both password and ssh keys. When I run getent passwd, all my ldap user accounts are listed with all the important attributes. When I run getent group, all the ldap groups and their gid's are listed, but no group members. If I run ldapsearch and filter on any group, the members are all listed with the "member" attribute. So the data is there for the taking, it's just not being parsed properly. It would appear that I simply am using an incorrect mapping in ldap.conf, but I can't see it. I've tried several variations and all give the same result. Here is my current ldap.conf: host <ad-host1-ip> <ad-host2-ip> base dc=my,dc=full,dc=dn uri ldap://<ad-host1> ldap://<ad-host2> ldap_version 3 binddn <mybinddn> bindpw <mybindpw> scope sub bind_policy hard nss_reconnect_tries 3 nss_reconnect_sleeptime 1 nss_reconnect_maxsleeptime 8 nss_reconnect_maxconntries 3 nss_map_objectclass posixAccount User nss_map_objectclass posixGroup Group nss_map_attribute uid sAMAccountName nss_map_attribute gidNumber msSFU30GidNumber nss_map_attribute uidNumber msSFU30UidNumber nss_map_attribute cn cn nss_map_attribute gecos displayName nss_map_attribute homeDirectory msSFU30HomeDirectory nss_map_attribute loginShell msSFU30LoginShell nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member pam_filter objectcategory=User pam_login_attribute sAMAccountName pam_member_attribute member pam_password ad Here's the kicker: this config works 100% fine on a different linux box with a different distro. It does not work on the distro I am planning on switching to. I have installed from source the versions of pam_ldap and nss_ldap on the new box to match the old box, which fixed another problem I was having with this setup. Other relevant info is the original AD box was Windows 2003. It's mirror died a horrible hardware death so I'm trying to add two more 2003-R2 servers to the mirror tree and ultimately drop the old 2003 box. The new R2 boxes appear to have joined the DC forest properly. What do I need to do to get groups working? I've exhausted all the resources I could find and need a different angle. Any input is appreciated. Status update, 7/31/09 I have managed to tweak my config file to get full info from the AD and performance is nice and snappy. I replaced the back-rev'd copies of pam_ldap and nss_ldap with the current ones for the distro I'm using, so it's back to a standard out-of-the-box install. Here's my current config: host <ad-host1-ip> <ad-host2-ip> base dc=my,dc=full,dc=dn uri ldap://<ad-host1> ldap://<ad-host2> ldap_version 3 binddn <mybinddn> bindpw <mybindpw> scope sub bind_policy soft nss_reconnect_tries 3 nss_reconnect_sleeptime 1 nss_reconnect_maxsleeptime 8 nss_reconnect_maxconntries 3 nss_connect_policy oneshot referrals no nss_map_objectclass posixAccount User nss_map_objectclass posixGroup Group nss_map_attribute uid sAMAccountName nss_map_attribute gidNumber msSFU30GidNumber nss_map_attribute uidNumber msSFU30UidNumber nss_map_attribute cn cn nss_map_attribute gecos displayName nss_map_attribute homeDirectory msSFU30HomeDirectory nss_map_attribute loginShell msSFU30LoginShell nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member pam_filter objectcategory=CN=Person,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=w2k,DC=cis,DC=ksu,DC=edu pam_login_attribute sAMAccountName pam_member_attribute member pam_password ad ssl off tls_checkpeer no sasl_secprops maxssf=0 The remaining problem now is when you run the groups command, not all subscribed groups are listed. Some are (one or two), but not all. Group memberships are still honored, such as file and printer access. getent group foo still shows that the user is a member of group foo. So it appears to be a presentation bug, and does not interfere with normal operation. It also appears that some (I have not determined exactly how many) group searches do not resolve correctly, even though the group is listed. eg, when you run "getent group bar", nothing is returned, but if you run "getent group|grep bar" or "getent group|grep <bar_gid>" you can see that it indeed listed and your group name and gid are correct. This still seems like an LDAP search or mapping error, but I can't figure out what it is. I'm a heckuva lot closer than earlier in the week, but I'd really like to get this last detail ironed out.

  • Dynamic Data: how to filter dropdown for foreign key on edit page

    I have Organisation with a foreign key to a Manager. Managers can be active, or inactive. On the Dynamic Data edit page for Organisation, I need to filter the dropdown for Manager to only show active records. But, how to customize the linq or sql query that runs to load the Managers? Using Linq-to-SQL and DynamicDataFutures

  • What do you do when your team leader doesn't know something simple?

    - by leppie
    What do you do when your team leader does not know why the following is wrong: a.SomeProp = a.SomeProp; // no funny side-effects, plain old property He claims 15 years of programming experience, and 7 years of C#/.NET. To me, someone of 3-6 months experience should know this. What I have done: Tried to make him understand why it is wrong. He told me not to criticize him. Told him it's not about criticism, but project risk. He got upset with me. I have addressed the risk of this person with our manager (few weeks back). I have addressed my concerns with this person with our manager several times, since 1 month after I started there (7 months now). Currently, I just feel like just not going back to work... I hardly have any nails left, and this is really just the tip of the iceberg. As nothing has changed after I have spoken to the manager for the last 6 months, I feel like I need to make some sort of ultimatum. Do you have any suggestions? PS: Please do not make this subjective. I have no need for arguing. The level of incompetence is pretty clear. I just need some advice before going insane. Update: Thanks for all the answers (trying to update before close, buggers). I think I will forward this thread to our manager :) Update 2: I sent my manager another mail with my concerns, and a link to this question. Awaiting response.

  • Qt QNetworkAccessManager does not emit signals

    The function CheckSite() is called with an url like http://site.com, it initializes a QNetworkAccessManager object and connect() slots and signals. The manger-get() call seems work (it generates http traffic) but does not call the slot replyFinished() at the request end. What's wrong with this code? #include <QtCore> #include <QtNetwork> class ClientHandler : public QObject { Q_OBJECT QNetworkAccessManager *manager; private slots: void replyFinished(QNetworkReply *); public: void CheckSite(QString url); }; void ClientHandler::replyFinished(QNetworkReply *reply) { qDebug() << "DONE"; } void ClientHandler::CheckSite(QString url) { QUrl qrl(url); manager = new QNetworkAccessManager(this); connect(manager, SIGNAL(finished(QNetworkReply*)), this, SLOT(replyFinished(QNetworkReply*))); manager->get(QNetworkRequest(qrl)); }

  • Nhibernate One-to-one mapping issue with child object insert error

    - by TalkDotNet
    Hi, i've being banging my head against the desk all day with the following Nhibernate problem. Each bank account has one (and only one) set of rates associated with it. The primary key of the bank account table, BankAccountID is also a foreign key and the primary key in the rates table. public class BankAccount { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual string AccountName { get; set;} public virtual AccountRate AccountRate {get;set;} } public class AccountRate { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate1 { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate2 { get; set; } } I have the following HBM mappings for BankAccount: <class name="BankAccount" table="BankAccount"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="foreign"> <param name="property"> AccountRate </param> </generator> </id> <property name ="AccountName" column="AccountName" /> <one-to-one name="AccountRate" class="AccountRate" constrained="true" cascade="save-update"/> </class> and the following for AccountRate: <class name="AccountRate" table="AccountRate"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="native" /> </id> <property name ="Rate1" column="Rate1" /> <property name ="Rate2" column="Rate2" /> </class> An existing BankAccount object can be read from the database with no problem. However, when a new BankAccount is created , the insert statement fails with; Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BankAccountId' The issue appears to be that the child object , AccountRate is created first and since it hasn't yet got an identifier from its uncreated parent , the insert fails. I think i'm correct in saying that if the AccountRate property on BankAccount was a collection i could use the following ? Inverse=True in order to force the parent to be inserted first. Can anyone help me with this? i Really dont want to use a collection as there is only a unidirectional one to one relationship between these tables. Thanks Paul

  • Why can't I use WCF DataContract and ISerializable on the same class?

    - by Dave
    Hi all, I have a class that I need to be able to serialize to a SQLServer session variable and be available over a WCF Service. I have declared it as follows namespace MyNM { [Serializable] [DataContract(Name = "Foo", Namespace = "http://www.mydomain.co.uk")] public class Foo : IEntity, ISafeCopy<Foo> { [DataMember(Order = 0)] public virtual Guid Id { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual string a { get; set; } DataMember(Order = 2)] public virtual Bar c { get; set; } /* ISafeCopy implementation */ } [Serializable] [DataContract(Name = "Bar ", Namespace = "http://www.mydomain.co.uk")] public class Bar : IEntity, ISafeCopy<Bar> { #region Implementation of IEntity DataMember(Order = 0)] public virtual Guid Id { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual Baz y { get; set; } #endregion /* ISafeCopy implementation*/ } [Serializable] [DataContract] public enum Baz { [EnumMember(Value = "one")] one, [EnumMember(Value = "two")] two, [EnumMember(Value = "three")] three } But when I try and call this service, I get the following error in the trace log. "System.Runtime.Serialization.InvalidDataContractException: Type 'BarProxybcb100e8617f40ceaa832fe4bb94533c' cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute." If I take out the Serializable attribute, the WCF service works, but when the object can't be serialized to session. If I remove the DataContract attribute from class Bar, the WCF service fails saying Type 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533' with data contract name 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533:http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/' is not expected. Add any types not known statically to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding them to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer I've tried adding a KnownType attribute to the foo class [KnownType(typeof(Bar))] But I still get the same error. Can anyone help me out with this? Many thanks Dave
