  • PC: Quick Freeze, then BSOD, then forced reboot, then freezes again

    - by cr0z3r
Lately I have been experiencing a weird issue. My PC will hang for a second and then BSOD - it stays there, so I have to reboot. Once Windows starts again and I'm logged in, after 1-10min it freezes again, this time without BSOD. RECAP: 1 second freeze BSOD, hangs there I have to force-reboot Once PC rebooted, I log back into Windows second freeze between a 1-10min range, no BSOD (alternatively, I get a freeze with a constant sound/noise, no BSOD) I contacted my PC provider, who told me my graphics-card might be flawed (Quadro 4000), so I used a Quadro 2000 that they lend me. The issue still occurred. The issue now seemed to belong to a flawed RAM module. Following my provider's steps, I removed all but the first from the left column and kept using my PC for a week or so without any issues. I then added the bottom-right module, and so on, until all modules were back inside - I had no problems. Now it seemed that a simple take-out-put-back-in of the RAM modules had fixed the issue. However, after a few months, the issue was back. I redid all the RAM-swapping I had done before, and concluded that the lower-right module was flawed. My provider changed it for another, and everything was great until now. My PC froze again for barely a second, hanged on a BSOD, I rebooted it, logged-in to Windows to get a freeze (without BSOD or reboot) 40 seconds later. Something worth noting, is that every time I reboot after the BSOD, it is something within Chrome that freezes my PC (e.g. this time I clicked the "restore" button as Chrome mentioned it had exited unexpectedly - from the previous freeze obviously - and it instantly froze). Finally, the Event Viewer lists 2 critical events in the past hour as "ID: 41, Type: Kernel-Power". PC-Specs: http://i.imgur.com/VZpbr.jpg Previous Dump-files: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/716600/DumpFiles_08_2012.zip I would like to thank anybody in advance for your help. You're great. UPDATE 1: I realized that I did not mention an awkward fact about this issue. After I have gotten the 1-sec freeze followed by a BSOD, after I rebooted because the BSOD hanged, and after I logged back in to get another (this time, eternal) freeze and rebooted once again, the PC does not boot back up. The power-light is on, but my monitor says "no signal", as if the PC wouldn't really be turned on. This truly seems a like a power-related issue, doesn't it? UPDATE 2: I just got a freeze, but without BSOD. My screen froze (while on Chrome, which is starting to seem suspicious to me) with an ongoing sound/noise. I had to force-reboot my PC. I would say this is a graphics-card issue, but this issue also happened when I was using the Quadro 2000 from my provider. UPDATE 3: I just got a BSOD while trying to render something (quite heavy, actually) in 3ds Max 2012. I left the BSOD "running", as it said it was writing dump files to disk. However, the percentage number stayed at 0, so after 15 minutes I force-rebooted. I then used the software WhoCrashed (thank you Dave) which reported the following from the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file: On Thu 22.11.2012 22:13:45 GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp uptime: 01:05:27 This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown () Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA80275AC028, 0xF200001F, 0x100B2) Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA). This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue. A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: Unknown . Google query: Unknown WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

  • Have I pushed the limits of my current VPS or is there room for optimization?

    - by JRameau
I am currently on a mediatemple DV server (basic) 512mb dedicated ram, this is a CentOS based VPS with Plesk and Virtuozzo. My experience with it from day 1 has been bad and I only could sooth my server issues with several caching "Band-aids," but my sites are not as small as they were a year ago either so the issues have worsen. I have 3 Drupal installs running on separate (plesk) domains, 1 of those drupal installs is a multisite, that consists of 5-6 sites 2 of those sites are bringing in actual traffic. Those caching "Band-aids" I mentioned are APC, which seemed to help alot initially, and Drupal's Boost, which is considered a poorman's Varnish, it makes all my pages static for anonymous users. Last 30day combined estimate on Google Ananlytics: 90k visitors 260k pageviews. Issue: alot of downtime, I am continually checking if my sites are up, and lately I have been finding it down more than 3 times daily. Restarting Apache will bring it back up, for some time. I have google search every error message and looked up ways to optimize my DV server, and I am beyond stump what is my next move. Is this server bad, have I hit a impossibly low restriction such as the 12mb kernel memory barrier (kmemsize), is it on my end, do I need to optimize some more? *I have provided as much information as I can below, any help or suggestions given will be appreciated Common Error messages I see in the log: [error] (12)Cannot allocate memory: fork: Unable to fork new process [error] make_obcallback: could not import mod_python.apache.\n Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/mod_python/apache.py", line 21, in ? import traceback File "/usr/lib/python2.4/traceback.py", line 3, in ? import linecache ImportError: No module named linecache [error] python_handler: no interpreter callback found. • What is wrong in my DKIM setup? I'm getting all fails

    - by djechelon
I own a domain name I have implemented SPF and DKIM to avoid my mails being junked. I have also upgraded to DMARC in monitor mode. Since I received a few failure reports recently I wanted to investigate more. I have only one server sending outbound emails, running postfix + dkimproxy. I trust that dkimproxy has no major software bugs resulting in bad messages. I have tested ReturnPath's automated DKIM test and this is the part related to DKIM/DomainKeys DKIM Results ============ Result = failed: invalid key for signature: Syntax error in tag: \"v Domain = domain.org Selector = sel DNS Record(s) = sel._domainkey.domain.org TXT "v=1; p=MIICIjANBgkqhkiG9w0BAQEFAAOCAg8AMIICCgKCAgEAsMMLhxzXkU+tagc44oMi7eX2BsFb8BsWeT8MRL+hxi4Lsosx7tuPm90iYgilNteyJoXuSP5SUf8B2tDAifdzYQhfhctr0hX9b6ocBCukGq5p0GHpNsCPWyFvxZsCkGqLRmkfb0c36quEAWBeQLe4Z/BwXBBiW1g96WFNb2/GRI1+9OHhligdfuo4PPuU+xiwX4GB0Ik50cJL4xTdBf7lrFwoGYa03ZkXuzKxeGE4cTk50OeIs6eqrzAfbmej4nCex2qGOUt1TWI7ZvCY7u3Gxj+XKaE7VFrQACZof+NP0k2pXPHg9saGJqZrr2i6+RoxGD0w/ibjAWij9enwqlnv2ORsZfe+FmXNOLJAhlYvhHaruubDpte1c7V3ZKDceM45ZawnVmSdLCfBrMbsqipzy8NXN5MxuANYFBkx5EDT+Ieab+zqcnf08m9bgDc4RXMYppDT1/lUy6On+nyfZEnJWiH3BUtgxS8X0uXciXbsooTmPnpkzzvvKXAE/Tv3XqL90q51geqP0EmaZI6lRTpiqoX7zFGlEBiiF7/u8oheszATks8LsNZ/boTFy0OVldbYNhxlIuRmqeXkqD6+kM5ObKtMEv3AdaeBiZmvyJTP8tCsSmPt+e954RLlz2HaDjjNnZNgsj/39U2RzZsFbVqW6uyQh36/y1X4joOiPf366GkCAwEAAQ==; t=s" Public Key Length = 4096 DomainKeys Results ================== Domain = domain.org Selector = sel DNS Record(s) = sel._domainkey.domain.org TXT "v=1; p=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; t=s" The mail displays an anonymised DNS record with genuine public key. It reports an error in tag v. A few hours ago I noticed my v tag was v=DKIM1 instead of v=1 as specified in RFC. I thought it was an error made by me during the initial setup months ago and fixed to v=1, but anyway I received one DMARC success from Google. Let me explain better: I enforced DMARC a couple of days ago. On 4/16 morning I got a mail from Google telling me that DMARC fully passes, then since 4/17 I get all failures. Then I discovered the v=DKIM1 tag and replaced with v=1 without success I have not modified my DNS records before that. So, keeping in topic with the question, why does ReturnPath refuse my DKIM DNS record? Is something wrong in my DKIM implementation at DNS level? • Do I need to be worried about these SMART drive temperatures?

I have 5 hard drives in a machine sitting in a cupboard. /dev/sda is a 500GB Seagate drive, and is the boot disk. /dev/sd{b,c,d,e} are 2TB drives in a raid6 configuration. smartctl is showing significantly higher temperatures (like ~140 degrees celsius) on the raid drives than the boot drive. Do I need to be worried? /dev/sdb and /dev/sde are new Western Digital Black drives (new=1 week) /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd are 5 year old Hitachi drives /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 40 to 39 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 142 to 146 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 142 /dev/sdd [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 142 to 146 /dev/sda [SAT], Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 61 to 62 /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 39 to 38 /dev/sde [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 107 to 108 /dev/sdb [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 108 to 109 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 150 /dev/sdc [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 146 to 150 /dev/sda [SAT], Airflow_Temperature_Cel changed from 62 to 61 /dev/sda [SAT], Temperature_Celsius changed from 38 to 39 Update: Adding detailed drive information as per request: /dev/sda =========================== smartctl 6.0 2012-10-10 r3643 [x86_64-linux-3.9.10-100.fc17.x86_64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-12, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Seagate Pipeline HD 5900.2 Device Model: ST3500312CS Serial Number: 5VV47HXA LU WWN Device Id: 5 000c50 02aad5ad6 Firmware Version: SC13 User Capacity: 500,107,862,016 bytes [500 GB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: 5900 rpm Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4 SATA Version is: SATA 2.6, 1.5 Gb/s (current: 1.5 Gb/s) Local Time is: Tue Jun 3 10:54:11 2014 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. • Tomcat dying silently on regular basis

    - by Hendrik
    My tomcat (6.0.32, Java Sun 1.6.0_22-b04 on Ubuntu 10.04) keeps crashing multiple times daily without any specific output in catalina.out. This usually happens on high load (see top output). Update: The pid-file is properly removed when this happens. Update 2: No CATALINA_OPTS set, _JAVA_OPTS are: export _JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xms128m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m \ -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20 \ -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=40 \ -XX:NewSize=10m \ -XX:MaxNewSize=10m \ -XX:SurvivorRatio=6 \ -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=80 \ -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled \ -Djava.awt.headless=true \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=37331 \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=true \ -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=(myhostname) \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.password.file=/etc/java-6-sun/management/jmxremote.password \ -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.access.file=/etc/java-6-sun/management/jmxremote.access" Top: top - 12:40:03 up 9 days, 12:15, 3 users, load average: 30.00, 22.39, 21.91 Tasks: 89 total, 4 running, 85 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 53.2%us, 9.7%sy, 0.0%ni, 34.7%id, 1.5%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.8%si, 0.0%st Mem: 4194304k total, 3311304k used, 883000k free, 0k buffers Swap: 4194304k total, 0k used, 4194304k free, 0k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 25850 tomcat6 20 0 1981m 1.2g 11m S 161 29.6 11:41.56 java 12632 mysql 20 0 393m 97m 4452 S 141 2.4 1690:05 mysqld 14932 nobody 20 0 253m 44m 9152 R 56 1.1 3:26.57 php-cgi 7011 nobody 20 0 241m 31m 9124 S 30 0.8 1:35.96 php-cgi 10093 nobody 20 0 228m 18m 8520 S 25 0.5 2:29.97 php-cgi 27071 nobody 20 0 237m 28m 8640 S 11 0.7 3:13.72 php-cgi 3306 nobody 20 0 227m 16m 6736 R 7 0.4 2:29.83 php-cgi 7756 nobody 20 0 261m 58m 15m R 5 1.4 2:22.33 php-cgi 7129 www-data 20 0 3646m 7228 1896 S 2 0.2 0:36.65 nginx 2657 nobody 20 0 228m 18m 8540 S 1 0.5 1:59.51 php-cgi 7131 www-data 20 0 3645m 6464 1960 S 1 0.2 0:34.13 nginx 7140 www-data 20 0 3652m 12m 1896 S 1 0.3 0:35.80 nginx 619 nobody 20 0 231m 29m 15m S 0 0.7 2:33.46 php-cgi 16552 nobody 20 0 250m 41m 8784 S 0 1.0 2:48.12 php-cgi 17134 nobody 20 0 239m 37m 16m S 0 0.9 2:32.86 php-cgi 21004 nobody 20 0 243m 34m 8700 S 0 0.8 1:19.85 php-cgi 26105 root 20 0 19220 1392 1060 R 0 0.0 0:00.82 top 32430 nobody 20 0 256m 47m 9196 S 0 1.2 2:19.01 php-cgi 314 nobody 20 0 256m 47m 8804 S 0 1.1 1:46.00 php-cgi 2111 nobody 20 0 253m 44m 9196 S 0 1.1 3:01.14 php-cgi 2142 root 20 0 26452 2564 868 S 0 0.1 0:00.56 screen 2144 root 20 0 19484 2012 1368 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 bash 2333 nobody 20 0 249m 41m 9160 S 0 1.0 1:10.33 php-cgi 2552 root 20 0 19484 2260 1620 S 0 0.1 0:00.01 bash 2587 nobody 20 0 258m 49m 9192 S 0 1.2 2:04.50 php-cgi 2684 root 20 0 4092 652 540 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 xvfb-run 2696 root 20 0 60720 13m 2352 S 0 0.3 0:09.12 Xvfb 2759 root 20 0 617m 12m 4676 S 0 0.3 0:00.66 node 3514 nobody 20 0 270m 61m 9216 S 0 1.5 3:13.69 php-cgi 5270 root 20 0 25164 1324 1036 S 0 0.0 0:00.01 screen 5402 nobody 20 0 227m 16m 8032 S 0 0.4 1:33.61 php-cgi 5765 root 20 0 81180 3820 3028 S 0 0.1 0:00.31 sshd 5798 nobody 20 0 242m 32m 9124 S 0 0.8 1:52.08 php-cgi 5856 root 20 0 19496 2292 1636 S 0 0.1 0:00.03 bash 6442 root 20 0 62332 20m 1960 S 0 0.5 0:30.58 mrtg 7082 root 20 0 88992 1916 1636 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 PassengerWatchd I can't find any concrete reason for it, no Exceptions or messages of a shutdown in catalina.out (and no other logs in tomcat's log dir). Could the kernel start killing threads due to a lack of ressources and by that bring the VM down?

  • AMD 24 core server memory bandwidth

I need some help to determine whether the memory bandwidth I'm seeing under Linux on my server is normal or not. Here's the server spec: HP ProLiant DL165 G7 2x AMD Opteron 6164 HE 12-Core 40 GB RAM (10 x 4GB DDR1333) Debian 6.0 Using mbw on this server I get the following numbers: foo1:~# mbw -n 3 1024 Long uses 8 bytes. • Improving TCP performance over a gigabit network with lots of connections and high traffic of small packets

    - by MinimeDJ
I’m trying to improve my TCP throughput over a “gigabit network with lots of connections and high traffic of small packets”. My server OS is Ubuntu 11.10 Server 64bit. There are about 50.000 (and growing) clients connected to my server through TCP Sockets (all on the same port). 95% of of my packets have size of 1-150 bytes (TCP header and payload). The rest 5% vary from 150 up to 4096+ bytes. With the config below my server can handle traffic up to 30 Mbps (full duplex). Can you please advice best practice to tune OS for my needs? It seems like my filesystem got corrupted somehow during the last reboot of my server. I can't fsck some logical volumes anymore. • What was scientifically shown to support productivity when organizing/accessing file and folders?

    - by Tom Wijsman
I have gathered terabytes of data but it has became a habit to store files and folders to the same folder, that folder could be kind of seen as a Inbox where most files (non-installations) enter my system. This way I end up with a big collections of files that are hard to organize properly, I mostly end up making folders that match their file type but then I still have several gigabytes of data per folder which doesn't make it efficient such that I can productively use the folder. I'd rather do a few clicks than having to search through the files, whether that's by some software product or by looking through the folder. Often the file names themselves are not proper so it would be easier to recognize them if there were few in a folder, rather than thousands of them. Scaling in the structure of directory trees in a computer cluster summarizes this problem as following: The processes of storing and retrieving information are rapidly gaining importance in science as well as society as a whole [1, 2, 3, 4]. A considerable effort is being undertaken, firstly to characterize and describe how publicly available information, for example in the world wide web, is actually organized, and secondly, to design efficient methods to access this information. [1] R. M. Shiffrin and K. B¨orner, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 101, 5183 (2004). [2] S. Lawrence, C.L. Giles, Nature 400, 107–109 (1999). [3] R.F.I. Cancho and R.V. Sol, Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. B 268, 2261 (2001). [4] M. Sigman and G. A. Cecchi, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 99, 1742 (2002). It goes further on explaining how the data is usually organized by taking general looks at it, but by looking at the abstract and conclusion it doesn't come with a conclusion or approach which results in a productive organization of a directory hierarchy. So, in essence, this is a problem for which I haven't found a solution yet; and I would love to see a scientific solution to this problem. Upon searching further, I don't seem to find anything useful or free papers that approach this problem so it might be that I'm looking in the wrong place. I've also noted that there are different ways to term this problem, which leads out to different results of papers. Perhaps a paper is out there, but I'm not just using the same terms as that paper uses? They often use more scientific terms. I've once heard a story about an advocate with a laptop which has simply outperformed an advocate with had tons of papers, which shows how proper organization leads to productivity; but that story didn't share details on how the advocate used the laptop or how he had organized his data. But in any case, it was way more useful than how most of us organize our data these days... Advice me how I should organize my data, I'm not looking for suggestions here. I would love to see statistics or scientific measurement approaches that help me confirm that it does help me reach my goal.

  • How to access remote lan machines through a ipsec / xl2ptd vpn (maybe iptables related)

    - by Simon
    I’m trying to do the setup of a IPSEC / XL2TPD VPN for our office, and I’m having some problems accessing the remote local machines after connecting to the VPN. I can connect, and I can browse Internet sites trough the VPN, but as said, I’m unable to connect or even ping the local ones. My Network setup is something like this: INTERNET eth0 ROUTER / VPN eth2 LAN These are some traceroutes behind the VPN: traceroute to google.com (173.194.78.94), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 192.168.1.80 (192.168.1.80) 74.738 ms 71.476 ms 70.123 ms 2 10.35.192.1 (10.35.192.1) 77.832 ms 77.578 ms 77.865 ms 3 10.47.243.137 (10.47.243.137) 78.837 ms 85.409 ms 76.032 ms 4 10.47.242.129 (10.47.242.129) 78.069 ms 80.054 ms 77.778 ms 5 10.254.4.2 (10.254.4.2) 86.174 ms 10.254.4.6 (10.254.4.6) 85.687 ms 10.254.4.2 (10.254.4.2) 85.664 ms traceroute to 192.168.1.3 (192.168.1.3), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 * * * 2 *traceroute: sendto: No route to host traceroute: wrote 192.168.1.3 52 chars, ret=-1 *traceroute: sendto: Host is down traceroute: wrote 192.168.1.3 52 chars, ret=-1 * traceroute: sendto: Host is down 3 traceroute: wrote 192.168.1.3 52 chars, ret=-1 *traceroute: sendto: Host is down traceroute: wrote 192.168.1.3 52 chars, ret=-1 These are my iptables rules: iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT # allow lan to router traffic iptables -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.0/24 -i eth2 -j ACCEPT # ssh iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT # vpn iptables -A INPUT -p 50 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p ah -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 500 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 4500 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 1701 -j ACCEPT # dns iptables -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.0/24 -p tcp --dport 53 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.0/24 -p udp --dport 53 -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE # logging iptables -I INPUT 5 -m limit --limit 1/min -j LOG --log-prefix "iptables denied: " --log-level 7 # block all other traffic iptables -A INPUT -j DROP And here are some firewall log lines: Dec 6 11:11:57 router kernel: [8725820.003323] iptables denied: IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.81 DST=192.168.1.3 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=255 ID=62174 PROTO=UDP SPT=61910 DPT=53 LEN=40 Dec 6 11:12:29 router kernel: [8725852.035826] iptables denied: IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.81 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=15344 PROTO=UDP SPT=56329 DPT=8612 LEN=24 Dec 6 11:12:36 router kernel: [8725859.121606] iptables denied: IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.81 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=11767 PROTO=UDP SPT=63962 DPT=8612 LEN=24 Dec 6 11:12:44 router kernel: [8725866.203656] iptables denied: IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.81 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=11679 PROTO=UDP SPT=57101 DPT=8612 LEN=24 Dec 6 11:12:51 router kernel: [8725873.285979] iptables denied: IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.81 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=44 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=39165 PROTO=UDP SPT=62625 DPT=8612 LEN=24 I’m pretty sure that the problem should be related with iptables, but after trying a lot of different confs, I was unable to find the right one. • Troubleshooting High Load on Plesk LAMP Dedicated Server

    - by Callmeed
I have 2 nearly identical dedicated servers with the same provider. They also run a nearly identical software stack: RedHat 5 64-bit, Plesk, PHP, Apache, & MySQL. We use them for hosting custom sites we build. The problem is, while our 1st server has a load average (in top) of around 0.3, the 2nd server consistently has a load average of around 4.0 or higher. • Strange enduser experience with Liferay, Glassfish and Apache on RedHat

    - by Pete Helgren
Tried multiple forums to get to the bottom of this. I hope I can get some direction here: Here is the stack I am working with: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 (Tikanga) Liferay 6.0.6 on Glassfish 3.0.1 MySQL 5.0.77 Apache 2.2.3 The Liferay portal provides a variety of portlets to end users. Static content (web pages), static resources (primarily pdf and mp3 files 1mb - 80mb in size), File upload and download capabilities (primarily 40-60mb mp3 files) and online streaming of those MP3 files. Here is the strange end user experiences: Under normal load: (20-30) users uploading, downloading or streaming files and 20-30 accessing static content (some of it downloads), we see the following: 1) Clicking a link triggers the download of a portion of an MP3 (the portion is a few seconds long). 2) Clicking on a link tiggers the download of the page content rather than rendering. 3) Clicking a link causes the page to dump binary data to the end user rather than the expected content. 4) Clicking a link returns the text of a javascript file rather than rendering the page. Each occurrence is totally random (or appears so). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to have no relation to browser or client OS. The strange events seem to occur much more frequently when using an SSL connection rather than regular http. Apache serves as a proxy server only (reverse). It basically passes all the requests through to Glassfish. There isn't any static content proxy served by Apache. We rebuilt the entire stack from scratch and redeployed the portlet wars and still have the same issues. Liferay is running as a single server (not clustered). We disabled mod_cache in Apache. The problems are more frequent as the server load grows. This morning the load is pretty light and we are seeing few problems but the use of the site will grow, particularly tonight around 9pm CST through Wednesday morning. You could try the site (http://preview.bsfinternational.org) during those times and I would expect that you might experience one of the weirdnesses as you randomly click links on the site (https is invoked only when signed in). Again, https seems to exacerbate the issue. This seems very much like a caching issue but I don't know where in the stack to start peeling the onion. Apache? Liferay? Glassfish? MySQL? Maybe even Redhat? We are stumped and most forums we have posted to (LifeRay and Glassfish) have returned very few suggestions. I just need an idea of where to start looking. I understand that we could have a portlet EDIT: Opening the files in a Hex editor that appear to be pages that download rather than render, we see that the first 4000 characters are "junk" and then the "HTTP/1.1 ...." 'normal' header is seen. So something is dumping a jumble of characters up to offset 4000 (when viewing it in a Hex editor). Perhaps a clue? Ideas?

  • Windows 7: How to place SuperFetch cache on an SSD?

    - by Ian Boyd
I'm thinking of adding a solid state drive (SSD) to my existing Windows 7 installation. I know I can (and should) move my paging file to the SSD: Should the pagefile be placed on SSDs? Yes. Most pagefile operations are small random reads or larger sequential writes, both of which are types of operations that SSDs handle well. In looking at telemetry data from thousands of traces and focusing on pagefile reads and writes, we find that Pagefile.sys reads outnumber pagefile.sys writes by about 40 to 1, Pagefile.sys read sizes are typically quite small, with 67% less than or equal to 4 KB, and 88% less than 16 KB. Pagefile.sys writes are relatively large, with 62% greater than or equal to 128 KB and 45% being exactly 1 MB in size. In fact, given typical pagefile reference patterns and the favorable performance characteristics SSDs have on those patterns, there are few files better than the pagefile to place on an SSD. What I don't know is if I even can put a SuperFetch cache (i.e. ReadyBoost cache) on the solid state drive. I want to get the benefit of Windows being able to cache gigabytes of frequently accessed data on a relativly small (e.g. 30GB) solid state drive. This is exactly what SuperFetch+ReadyBoost (or SuperFetch+ReadyDrive) was designed for. Will Windows offer (or let) me place a ReadyBoost cache on a solid state flash drive connected via SATA? A problem with the ReadyBoost cache over the ReadyDrive cache is that the ReadyBoost cache does not survive between reboots. The cache is encrypted with a per-session key, making its existing contents unusable during boot and SuperFetch pre-fetching during login. Update One I know that Windows Vista limited you to only one ReadyBoost.sfcache file (I do not know if Windows 7 removed that limitation): Q: Can use use multiple devices for EMDs? A: Nope. We've limited Vista to one ReadyBoost per machine Q: Why just one device? A: Time and quality. Since this is the first revision of the feature, we decided to focus on making the single device exceptional, without the difficulties of managing multiple caches. We like the idea, though, and it's under consideration for future versions. I also know that the 4GB limit on the cache file was a limitation of the FAT filesystem used on most USB sticks - an SSD drive would be formatted with NTFS: Q: What's the largest amount of flash that I can use for ReadyBoost? A: You can use up to 4GB of flash for ReadyBoost (which turns out to be 8GB of cache w/ the compression) Q: Why can't I use more than 4GB of flash? A: The FAT32 filesystem limits our ReadyBoost.sfcache file to 4GB Can a ReadyBoost cache on an NTFS volume be larger than 4GB? Update Two The ReadyBoost cache is encrypted with a per-boot session key. This means that the cache has to be re-built after each boot, and cannot be used to help speed boot times, or latency from login to usable. Windows ReadyDrive technology takes advantage of non-volatile (NV) memory (i.e. flash) that is incorporated with some hybrid hard drives. This flash cache can be used to help Windows boot, or resume from hibernate faster. Will Windows 7 use an internal SSD drive as a ReadyBoost/*ReadyDrive*/SuperFetch cache? Is it possible to make Windows store a SuperFetch cache (i.e. ReadyBoost) on a non-removable SSD? Is it possible to not encrypt the ReadyBoost cache, and if so will Windows 7 use the cache at boot time? See also SuperUser.com: ReadyBoost + SSD = ? Windows 7 - ReadyBoost & SSD drives? • Facing issues in setting up VPN connection(IKEv1) using iphone (Defult Cisco VPN client) and Strongswan 4.5.0 server

    - by Kushagra Bhatnagar
I am facing issues in setting up VPN connection(IKEv1) using iPhone (Defult Cisco VPN client) and Strongswan 4.5.0 server. The Strongswan server is running on Ubuntu Linux, which is connected to some wifi hotspot. This is the guide which was used. I generated CA, server and client certificate, with the only difference mentioned below. “While generating server certificate, as per link CN=vpn.strongswan.org instead of this I changed CN name to CN=192.168.43.212.” Once certificates are generated, following (clientCert.p12 and caCert.pem) are sent to mobile via mail and installed on iphone. After installation I notice that certificates are considered as trusted also. Below are the ip addresses assigned to various interfaces Linux server wlan0 interface ip where server is running: 192.168.43.212 Iphone eth0 interface ip address: 192.168.43.72. iphone is also attached with the same wifi hotspot. Below is the snapshot of client configurations. Description Strong swan Server 192.168.43.212 Account ipsecvpn Password ***** Use certificate ON Certificate client The above username and password are in sync with the ipsec.secrets file. I am using the following ipsec.conf configuration: # basic configuration config setup plutodebug=all # crlcheckinterval=600 # strictcrlpolicy=yes # cachecrls=yes nat_traversal=yes # charonstart=yes plutostart=yes # Add connections here. # Sample VPN connections conn ios1 keyexchange=ikev1 authby=xauthrsasig xauth=server left=%defaultroute leftsubnet=0.0.0.0/0 leftfirewall=yes leftcert=serverCert.pem right=192.168.43.72 rightsubnet=10.0.0.0/24 rightsourceip=10.0.0.2 rightcert=clientCert.pem pfs=no auto=add With the above configurations when I enable VPN on iphone, it says Could not able to verify server certificate. I ran Wireshark on a Linux server and observe that initially some ISAKMP message exchanges happens between client and server, which are successful but before authorization, client is sending some informational message and soon after this client is showing error as popup Could not able to verify server certificate. Capture logs on Strongswan server and in server logs below errors are observed: From auth.log Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | ISAKMP version: ISAKMP Version 1.0 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | exchange type: ISAKMP_XCHG_INFO Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | flags: ISAKMP_FLAG_ENCRYPTION Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | message ID: 9d 1a ea 4d Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | length: 76 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | ICOOKIE: f6 b7 06 b2 b1 84 5b 93 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | RCOOKIE: 86 92 a0 c2 a6 2f ac be Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | peer: c0 a8 2b 48 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | state hash entry 8 Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: | state object not found Apr 25 20:16:08 Linux pluto[4025]: **packet from 192.168.43.72:500: Informational Exchange is for an unknown (expired?) • MySQL Memory usage

    - by Rob Stevenson-Leggett
Our MySQL server seems to be using a lot of memory. I've tried looking for slow queries and queries with no index and have halved the peak CPU usage and Apache memory usage but the MySQL memory stays constantly at 2.2GB (~51% of available memory on the server). Here's the graph from Plesk. Running top in the SSH window shows the same figures. Does anyone have any ideas on why the memory usage is constant like this and not peaks and troughs with usage of the app? • Degraded RAID5 and no md superblock on one of remaining drive

    - by ark1214
    This is actually on a QNAP TS-509 NAS. The RAID is basically a Linux RAID. The NAS was configured with RAID 5 with 5 drives (/md0 with /dev/sd[abcde]3). At some point, /dev/sde failed and drive was replaced. While rebuilding (and not completed), the NAS rebooted itself and /dev/sdc dropped out of the array. Now the array can't start because essentially 2 drives have dropped out. I disconnected /dev/sde and hoped that /md0 can resume in degraded mode, but no luck.. Further investigation shows that /dev/sdc3 has no md superblock. The data should be good since the array was unable to assemble after /dev/sdc dropped off. All the searches I done showed how to reassemble the array assuming 1 bad drive. But I think I just need to restore the superblock on /dev/sdc3 and that should bring the array up to a degraded mode which will allow me to backup data and then proceed with rebuilding with adding /dev/sde. Any help would be greatly appreciated. mdstat does not show /dev/md0 # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid10] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [multipath] md5 : active raid1 sdd2[2](S) sdc2[3](S) sdb2[1] sda2[0] 530048 blocks [2/2] [UU] md13 : active raid1 sdd4[3] sdc4[2] sdb4[1] sda4[0] 458880 blocks [5/4] [UUUU_] bitmap: 40/57 pages [160KB], 4KB chunk md9 : active raid1 sdd1[3] sdc1[2] sdb1[1] sda1[0] 530048 blocks [5/4] [UUUU_] bitmap: 33/65 pages [132KB], 4KB chunk mdadm show /dev/md0 is still there # mdadm --examine --scan ARRAY /dev/md9 level=raid1 num-devices=5 UUID=271bf0f7:faf1f2c2:967631a4:3c0fa888 ARRAY /dev/md5 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID=0d75de26:0759d153:5524b8ea:86a3ee0d spares=2 ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid5 num-devices=5 UUID=ce3e369b:4ff9ddd2:3639798a:e3889841 ARRAY /dev/md13 level=raid1 num-devices=5 UUID=7384c159:ea48a152:a1cdc8f2:c8d79a9c With /dev/sde removed, here is the mdadm examine output showing sdc3 has no md superblock # mdadm --examine /dev/sda3 /dev/sda3: Magic : a92b4efc Version : 00.90.00 UUID : ce3e369b:4ff9ddd2:3639798a:e3889841 Creation Time : Sat Dec 8 15:01:19 2012 Raid Level : raid5 Used Dev Size : 1463569600 (1395.77 GiB 1498.70 GB) Array Size : 5854278400 (5583.08 GiB 5994.78 GB) Raid Devices : 5 Total Devices : 4 Preferred Minor : 0 Update Time : Sat Dec 8 15:06:17 2012 State : active Active Devices : 4 Working Devices : 4 Failed Devices : 1 Spare Devices : 0 Checksum : d9e9ff0e - correct Events : 0.394 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 64K Number Major Minor RaidDevice State this 0 8 3 0 active sync /dev/sda3 0 0 8 3 0 active sync /dev/sda3 1 1 8 19 1 active sync /dev/sdb3 2 2 8 35 2 active sync /dev/sdc3 3 3 8 51 3 active sync /dev/sdd3 4 4 0 0 4 faulty removed [~] # mdadm --examine /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdb3: Magic : a92b4efc Version : 00.90.00 UUID : ce3e369b:4ff9ddd2:3639798a:e3889841 Creation Time : Sat Dec 8 15:01:19 2012 Raid Level : raid5 Used Dev Size : 1463569600 (1395.77 GiB 1498.70 GB) Array Size : 5854278400 (5583.08 GiB 5994.78 GB) Raid Devices : 5 Total Devices : 4 Preferred Minor : 0 Update Time : Sat Dec 8 15:06:17 2012 State : active Active Devices : 4 Working Devices : 4 Failed Devices : 1 Spare Devices : 0 Checksum : d9e9ff20 - correct Events : 0.394 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 64K Number Major Minor RaidDevice State this 1 8 19 1 active sync /dev/sdb3 0 0 8 3 0 active sync /dev/sda3 1 1 8 19 1 active sync /dev/sdb3 2 2 8 35 2 active sync /dev/sdc3 3 3 8 51 3 active sync /dev/sdd3 4 4 0 0 4 faulty removed [~] # mdadm --examine /dev/sdc3 mdadm: No md superblock detected on /dev/sdc3. • ffserver-2.2 - streaming an ASF video as Webm output with ffserver on Debian 7.5

    - by Emmanuel Brunet
I'm trying to stream an IP webcam ASF live stream to a ffserver to output a webm video format. The server starts successfully but the ffserver commands used to feed the ffserver fails and generates a core dump. Input stream $ ffprobe http://account:password@webcam/videostream.asf Input #0, asf, from 'http://account:password@webcam/videostream.asf': Duration: N/A, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 32 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: mjpeg (MJPG / 0x47504A4D), yuvj422p(pc), 640x480, 25 tbr, 1k tbn, 1k tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: adpcm_ima_wav ([17][0][0][0] / 0x0011), 8000 Hz, 1 channels, s16p, 32 kb/s ffserver configuration my ffserver configuration is : Port 8091 RTSPPort 554 BindAddress 192.168.1.62 MaxHTTPConnections 1000 MaxClients 100 MaxBandwidth 1000 CustomLog - <Feed webcam.ffm> File /tmp/webcam.ffm FileMaxSize 500M ACL allow localhost ACL allow 192.168.0.0 192.168.255.255 </Feed> <Stream webcam.webm> # Output stream URL definition Feed webcam.ffm # Feed from which to receive video Format webm # Audio settings AudioCodec vorbis AudioBitRate 64 # Audio bitrate # Video settings VideoCodec libvpx VideoSize 640x480 # Video resolution VideoFrameRate 25 # Video FPS AVOptionVideo flags +global_header # Parameters passed to encoder # (same as ffmpeg command-line parameters) AVOptionVideo cpu-used 0 AVOptionVideo qmin 10 AVOptionVideo qmax 42 AVOptionVideo quality good AVOptionAudio flags +global_header PreRoll 15 StartSendOnKey # VideoBitRate 32 # Video bitrate </Stream> <Stream status.html> Format status # Only allow local people to get the status ACL allow localhost ACL allow 192.168.0.0 192.168.255.255 </Stream> ffmpeg feed I run the following command that fails $ ffmpeg -i http://account:password@webcam/videostream.asf http://ffserver_ip:port/webcam.ffm http://192.168.1.62:8091/webcam.ffm Input #0, asf, from 'http://account:password@webcam/videostream.asf': Duration: N/A, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 32 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: mjpeg (MJPG / 0x47504A4D), yuvj422p(pc), 640x480, 25 tbr, 1k tbn, 1k tbc Stream #0:1: Audio: adpcm_ima_wav ([17][0][0][0] / 0x0011), 8000 Hz, mono, s16p, 32 kb/s [swscaler @ 0x36a80c0] deprecated pixel format used, make sure you did set range correctly Segmentation fault I tryed $ ffmpeg -i http://account:password@webcam/videostream.asf -pix_fmt yuv420p http://ffserver_ip:port/webcam.ffm But it raises the same error. • ls hangs for a certain directory

    - by Jakobud
There is a particular directory (/var/www), that when I run ls (with or without some options), the command hangs and never completes. There is only about 10-15 files and directories in /var/www. Mostly just text files. Here is some investigative info: [me@server www]$ df . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vg_dev-lv_root 50G 19G 29G 40% / [me@server www]$ df -i . Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vg_dev-lv_root 3.2M 435K 2.8M 14% / find works fine. Also I can type in cd /var/www/ and press TAB before pressing enter and it will successfully tab-completion list of all files/directories in there: [me@server www]$ cd /var/www/ cgi-bin/ create_vhost.sh html/ manual/ phpMyAdmin/ scripts/ usage/ conf/ error/ icons/ mediawiki/ rackspace sqlbuddy/ vhosts/ [me@server www]$ cd /var/www/ I have had to kill my terminal sessions several times because of the ls hanging: [me@server ~]$ ps | grep ls gdm 6215 0.0 0.0 488152 2488 ? S<sl Jan18 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog root 23269 0.0 0.0 117724 1088 ? D 18:24 0:00 ls -Fh --color=always -l root 23477 0.0 0.0 117724 1088 ? What else should I do to investigate this problem? It just randomly started happening today. UPDATE dmesg is a big list of things, mostly related to an external USB HDD that I've mounted too many times and the max mount count has been reached, but that is an un-related problem I think. • Cheapest way to connect 20-24 Sata II HDDs in a budget storage server?

    - by Joe Hopfgartner
I need to assemble a high density storage server for as cheap as possible. It's been a while for me and the last systems I integrated didn't even have Sata yet... During my Research I of course stumbled about Nexsan SATA Beast, the BackBlaze storage Pods as well as some ridiculously overpriced HP Proliant or Dell storage solutions. Finally I choose Norco cases as the way to go. My eye is set on the RPC-4020, which is a 4U 19" Rackmount case with 20 Hot Swap 3.5" SATA/SAS Hdd trays (Backplanes included) and room for two 2.5" OS drives as well as a Slim Line CD-Rom. The backplanes connect with a single SATA port for each drive, so there are 20 internal SATA ports to to be connected. They also have redundant power ports which I think is quite nice. The cheapest price I have found is 290$ + 40$ shipping. In europe the cheapest unfortunately is 370€ (500$) + 40 € shipping... A nice alternative would be the RPC-4224 which has SFF-8087 Mini SAS connectors that bundle 4 SATA trays each. But it doesn't seem to be available in Europe (where i am) anywhere. So here comes my problem: What Mainboard/Controller to choose to connect them for as cheap as possible while still having nice data rates? I have to say that the server is intended as a Storage server with 1gps connectivity and the data transfer will be distributed very evenly across all drives. I also don't require any raid functionality. This is all done at application level, I just need JBOD. So for example if I go for the RPC 4020 Model I need to connect 20 Storage + 1 OS + 1 CDROM Sata ports. I searched a bit and stumbled across this very low priced controller: http://www.intel.com/products/server/raid-controllers/SASWT4I/SASWT4I-overview.htm They sell it for 115 € here and the specs say it can control up to 122 hard discs and has 4 Mini SAS connectors. So I would use 4 Mini SAS 36pin - 4 SATA 7pin cables to connect 4 SATA drives to each port and choose a Mainboard taht has 6 SATA on board (for example this one) and hurray, I can connect my 22 SATA devices for as low as about ~ 220 EUR (cpu, ram, psu, case not counted) Question: WOULD THAT WORK? And if not, why? 2nd Question: If I go for the 4220 or 4224 Model, I have internal Mini SAS connectors. Am I right in assuming that the backplane than acts as a "SAS Expander"? And can I just plug these SAS connectors into any SAS port I can find on my controller / mainboard or are there certain requirements? I know that SATA port multipliers only work with controllers that are ready for that. But isn't this expansion already implemented in the SAS standard? I am sorry that this is a very broad question, but I really spent the last week reading up and it seems to be not so clear! Especially all the controlling hardware specifications! 3rd Question: A lot of hardware specs feature "internal channels" and "internal connectors". The connecors are the physical numbers of places where I can plug a cable in. I got that. But are the "internal channels" always the maximum numbers of physical drives that can be used in the end? Or can I enhance this further by Expanders/Fanouts? 4th and last question: What do you think about the setup so far? Do you know any good alternatives? Maby I am completely going the wrong way and some DAS would be way better? Are there any comparable chassis available in europe? Please feel free to say whatever you think is relevant to the subject!

  • Iptables blocking mysql port 3306

    - by valmar
    I got a Tomcat server running a web application that must access a mysql server via Hibernate on the same machine. So, I added a rule for port 3306 to my iptables script but tomcat cannot connect to the mysql server for some reason. I need to reset all iptables rules - Then tomcat can connect to the mysql server again. All the other iptables rules work perfectly though. What's wrong? Here is my script: iptables -A INPUT -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 24 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s localhost --dport 8009 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -d localhost --dport 8009 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s localhost --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -d localhost --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 587 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 587 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 465 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 465 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 110 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 995 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 995 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 143 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 143 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 993 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -j DROP My /etc/hosts file: # nameserver config # IPv4 127.0.0.1 localhost 46.4.7.93 mydomain.com 46.4.7.93 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal 46.4.7.93 horst # IPv6 ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters ff02::3 ip6-allhosts Having a look into the iptables logs, gives me this: Jun 22 16:52:43 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 435.111780] denied-input IN=lo OUT= MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:08:00 SRC=127.0.0.1 DST=127.0.0.1 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=52432 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=56108 DPT=8009 WINDOW=32792 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:52:46 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 438.110555] denied-input IN=lo OUT= MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:08:00 SRC=127.0.0.1 DST=127.0.0.1 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=52433 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=56108 DPT=8009 WINDOW=32792 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:52:46 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 438.231954] denied-input IN=lo OUT= MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:08:00 SRC=127.0.0.1 DST=127.0.0.1 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=48020 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=56109 DPT=8009 WINDOW=32792 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:52:49 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 441.229778] denied-input IN=lo OUT= MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:08:00 SRC=127.0.0.1 DST=127.0.0.1 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=48021 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=56109 DPT=8009 WINDOW=32792 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:53:57 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 508.731839] denied-input IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=6c:62:6d:85:bf:0e:00:26:88:75:dc:01:08:00 SRC=78.92.97.67 DST=46.4.7.93 LEN=64 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=122 ID=23053 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=1672 DPT=445 WINDOW=65535 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:53:59 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 511.625038] denied-input IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=6c:62:6d:85:bf:0e:00:26:88:75:dc:01:08:00 SRC=78.92.97.67 DST=46.4.7.93 LEN=64 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=122 ID=23547 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=1672 DPT=445 WINDOW=65535 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:54:22 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 533.981995] denied-input IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=6c:62:6d:85:bf:0e:00:26:88:75:dc:01:08:00 SRC=27.254.39.16 DST=46.4.7.93 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=117 ID=6549 PROTO=TCP SPT=6005 DPT=33796 WINDOW=64240 RES=0x00 ACK SYN URGP=0 Jun 22 16:54:44 Ubuntu-1004-lucid-64-minimal kernel: [ 556.297038] denied-input IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=6c:62:6d:85:bf:0e:00:26:88:75:dc:01:08:00 SRC=94.78.93.41 DST=46.4.7.93 LEN=40 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=52 ID=7712 PROTO=TCP SPT=57598 DPT=445 WINDOW=512 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0

  • what is the best mid/high-end class audio/music creation audio sound card?

    - by Chris
Hello, I have a computershop myself, and I repair computers. But one of the things I really don't know (yet) is the performace od audio cards for music creation with midi. I have searched and searched and came up with some good reviews, but after browsing for a couple of hours I could't see the trees trough the forrest :-D (it's a dutch expression) At one moment I thought the M-Audio - Delta 1010LT would be a good PCIe card, later on I read that this card was released years ago. (but that could be false information) Also any personal expierence would be great, but not necessairy. I have searched a few cards, and I hope someone can help me make a choice for a friend of mine. He's buget is between $100 and $350 I know there are audio cards from $ 500 - $1850,- this is just too expensive. The following specs are crucial: ASIO Midi Mic in minimal 5.1, 7.1 recommended it's not for airplay, but just to compose music at home. using Ableton and midi keyboard. 1. • How to place SuperFetch cache on an SSD?
