• Another question about ASP.NET MVC and a separate project for helper classes

  I know this topic has been discussed to death, but there is one thing that I can't wrap my head around. I'm working on a Web Application using ASP.NET MVC and I come across a scenario where I need a helper class (this usually happens in the early stages of development. So I go ahead and create a helper project in my solution that I use to manage all of my Helper Classes. Now, do I have to build that project and dump the dll in the bin directory every time I make changes to is, or is there a way to have the main web application reference the classes contained within the separate project without the separate build process? I'm just looking for the easiest way to add helper classes without the hastel of building and moving the dll every time I make a change or addition. Also, sorry for the very newbie-esque question here. All of the web apps I've build in the past have all been in the same project (web forms, App_Code, etc).

• Is there a recommended command for "hg bisect --command"?

  I have an emergent bug that I've got to track down tomorrow. I know a previous hg revision which was good so I'm thinking about using hg bisect. However, I'm on Windows and don't want to get into DOS scripting. Ideally, I'd be able to write a Python unit test and have hg bisect use that. • Best practices for using Hg with Grails?

  What should I check in/not check in? Since many of the files are sometimes auto-generated I'm not entirely sure how to handle this using version control...does it have something to do with tags? For instance in ANT, I know not to check-in my target/bin directories...but Grails adds another level of confusion to this...since some of code is generated and some of it is not. (It may become clearer as I go...but it seems to be that there needs to be some way of being able to tell what was just generated and what was modified by a developer so that it needs to be placed in version control)

• ASP.NET MVC v1 project upgraded to VS 2010 no longer will debug. Why?

  I'm getting the message "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." I have a S#arp Architecture project (ASP.NET MVC v1) that has been opened and upgraded to be used in VS 2010. I can no longer debug the project. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have IE set to be my default browser. I have the build set to debug. System.Web.Mvc is referenced in my project's lib dir. I've cleaned the solution. I've recompiled the solution. It's set to use .NET Framework 3.5. PDBs are being created and dropped into the bin directory with the DLLs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• Prolog - Finding the current directory, relative directory for 'tell' predicate

  I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get prolog to spit out a text file where I want it to. I'm currently doing a bunch of operations and then using tell('output.txt') to record the output. Now the problem is that when I do this, it creates this file in the SWI \bin\ folder. I was wondering if there's a way to make it create this file in the directory containing the actual .pl file. So even if the file was moved (and it will be), the text file gets created right where the source file is. Long story short, is there a way to get the location of the source file once the source file has been consulted? Many Thanks!

• MVC on Server 2008 R2 - How?

  I have a new WIndows Server 2008 R2 x64 DataCentre with Framework 3.5 SP1 and Framework 4 installed. When I install my MVC application (VS 2008 MVC 2.0 using a Web Setup project installer) and browse to the application I get an error that System.Web.Mvc cannot be found. If I copy the relevant DLLs (System.Web.Mvc etc)into the bin directory the app runs up perfectly. I have checked everywhere for an installer but can only find the VS2008 related bits, no server runtime. How do I get ASP.Net MVC installed in this environment so that we don't have to Copy Local the dlls? Many thanks Brian

• 'Step Into' is suddenly not working in Visual Studio

  All of a sudden, I have run into an issue where I cannot step into any code through debugging in Visual Studio. The step over works fine, but it refuses to step into (F11) any of my code. This was working before, now all of a sudden it does not. I've tried some things below, but I still had no success: Delete all bin files in every project in my solution, clean solution, re-build solution. Build projects in solution indivdualy Restart machine It an ASP.NET C# application consuming a WCF sevice locally. It is in debug mode. I have a breakpoint set on the page consuming the service. The breakpoint hits, but it will not step into the service code. The ASP.NET site and the service code is all in the same solution. This all of a sudden does not work, it did work before. How can I fix this problem? Adding a breakpoint to the service project I get a warning: Breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I deleted all the bin folders for all the projects and re-built them one by one. They all succeeded, but still I am getting the symbols won't load on any breakpoint I put into any project in the solution other than the ASP.NET project where the breakpoint works. I was able to debug step into all the projects before, this is an all of a sudden thing. Information from the output window.. • Python, how to tell if screen is running.

  Hello, I am very new to programming and am trying to run a python code to see if the screen program is running and if it is then to not run the rest of the code. • Autotest notifications on Ubuntu virtual environment

  I am having trouble getting Rails autotest notifications to work on the Engine Yard Vagrant environment. On the Mac, I normally get the notifications via Growl. However, on the virtual environment (which runs Ubuntu) that doesn't work. I tried running Linux notification setups such as libnotify+autotest-notification, but I get the following error: libnotify-Message: Unable to get session bus: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed. ** (notify-send:1004): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_connect_signal: assertion `DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed ** (notify-send:1004): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_connect_signal: assertion `DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed ** (notify-send:1004): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_call: assertion `DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed Another path would be to have Growl receive the notifications remotely, but I don't even know where to begin with that... • Tab widget example not running

  I'm trying to reproduce the tabwidget example (http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html). I'm not really sure what's the problem, I got no errors while compiling, but i cannot see the application on the emulators screen. • Font choices in International scenarios: multilingual vs unicode

  I have a website that will eventually display multiple languages. I notice the common fonts used in web CSS (ex: Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, Tahoma) and even the newer Vista/Office 2007/VS2008 fonts (Calibri,Cambria, Candara, Corbel, etc) are significantly larger (~350K) than your average (US only?) TTF font (~50k) so these fonts contain most/all the major character sets that common languages (Spanish, French, German, etc) use. My question is, would somebody confirm that these fonts listed above are acceptable for international use of the major (let's say top 8) spoken languages? If so, then I'm guessing the only purpose of unicode fonts; such "Arial Unicode" (a massive 22mb) is only for dealing with extremely niche dialog, eastern glyphs (Chinese, Japanese) and dead languages? I'm just looking for some confirmation from developers that have their desktop apps/web apps rendering multiple languages and have a visual confirmation, I'm already in the 99% sure bin but you know what they say about assumption.

  Having implemented PayPal's Website Payments Standard, I'd like to link to the details view of a transaction from my site's back end - just a simple direct web URL to the PayPal side. I don't know why this is tricky but when I try to get it from being logged in to the PayPal system it seems very obfuscated, in this form: history.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_history-details&info=[looks like some kind of GUID]&ptype=4&history_cache=[huge encoded string] I'm guessing it's by design but it's not very helpful if you want a quick way to jump to a transaction's details. I've tried the https://www.paypal.com/vst/id=1234 form (also with co.uk as I am UK-based) recommended on a few sites I saw in my search, but I am told that: The transaction ID in your link is invalid. This happens even when copying the transaction ID directly from PayPal's back-end order listing. Is there a reliable way to directly link to an order / transaction details page in PayPal?

• Want procmail to run a custom python script, everytime a new mail shows up

  I have a pretty usual requirement with procmail but I am unable to get the results somehow. I have procmailrc file with this content: :0 * ^To.*@myhost | /usr/bin/python /work/scripts/privilege_emails_forward.py Wherein my custom python script(privilege_emails_forward.py) will be scanning through the email currently received and do some operations on the mail content. But I am unable to get the script getting executed at the first shot(let alone scanning through the mail content). Is this a correct way of invoking an external program(python) as soon as new mail arrives? And how does my python program(privilege_emails_forward.py) will receive the mail as input? I mean as sys.argv or stdin????

When the applciation was built, all assemblies were compiled with full debug info (Project Properties - Build - Advanced - Debug Info - Full), and so PDB files were generated. To help me diagnose where the error is coming from, I dropped the PDB files into the application's bin directory, and reproduced the exception. All line numbers for each stack frame look correct, with the exception of one which displays "line 0" as its source.

  So, I'm trying to implement an algorithm that takes in a number of rectangles as input and tries to pack them into a rectangle of minimum area. The rectangles can all be rotated by 90 degrees. I realize that this is similar to the bin packing problem, but I am unable to find a good algorithm that accounts for the rotation. I found a paper that discusses this at length here and while I understand the article itself, I was hoping to find something simpler. Any suggestions? -Edit- I think I misstated the problem earlier. We are given a number of rectangles, such that each can be rotated by 90 degrees. We need to find a rectangle that fits all the given rectangles such that no two rectangles overlap, while minimizing the area of the enclosing rectangle. The problem I face here is that we are asked to find the minimum, as opposed to being given an enclosing rectangle and checking if the given rectangles fit or something of that sort.
