Is it possible to set conversion options, so TSXDateTime is converted to <dateFrom, not <xsd:dateFrom tag? Did you meet that problem?

  In ASP.net web service if the above isn't specified , what is the response format by default? Also, if my web service below: [WebMethod()] public List<Sample> GenerateSamples(string[][] data) { ResultsFactory f = new ResultsFactory(data); List<Sample> samples = f.GenerateSamples(); return samples; } returns the list of objects, If I change the response format to JSON, I have to change the return type to string, then how do I access objects in my javascript? Currently I call this web service in my JS such as: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "http://localhost/TemplateWebService/Service.asmx/GenerateSamples", data: jsonText, contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", success: function(response) { var samples = (typeof response.d) == 'string' ? eval('(' + response.d + ')') : response.d; if (samples.length > 0) { doSomethingHere(samples); } else { alert("No samples have been generated"); } }, error: function(xhr, status, error) { var msg = JSON.parse(xhr.responseText); alert(msg.Message); } }); What i noticed though, even though everything works perfectly fine, the eval statement never gets executed, which means that the web service always returns a string! So my question is, is [ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)] necessary on the web service definition side? The way things are now, I can use samples array and access each object and its properties as I normally would in any OOP code, which is very convenient, and everything works no problem, but I just wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything in my set up. I took the basics of combining Jquery's ajax with asp.net from Encosia side, and the response type wasn't mentioned there - I read it on another site and am I not sure how vital it is.

  Hi, i try to Update a simple Label on Close Event of dynamic created RadDock. Works fine so far, Label gets the correct values but doesnt updates it. RadDock dock = new RadDock(); dock.DockMode = DockMode.Docked; dock.UniqueName = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); dock.ID = string.Format("RadDock{0}", dock.UniqueName); dock.Title = slide.slideName; dock.Text = string.Format("Added at {0}", DateTime.Now); dock.Width = Unit.Pixel(300); dock.AutoPostBack = true; dock.CommandsAutoPostBack = true; dock.Command += new DockCommandEventHandler(dock_Command); ... void dock_Command(object sender, DockCommandEventArgs e) { Status.Text = "Removed " + ((RadDock)sender).Title + " " + ((RadDock)sender).Text; } I tried to do this: RadAjaxManager1.AjaxSettings.AddAjaxSetting(dock, Status, null); while creating the docks, but on runtime i get a NullReference Excepetion. On a Button registered with the RadAjaxManager it works to show the value assigned by dock_command. protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Status.Text = Status.Text; } UPDATE: The RadAjaxManager was created with integrated Wizzard of VS2008. Can't select the Docks, because the are generated while runtime. On Backend its included in AutoCompletion, so the NullReference has nothing to do with the AjaxManager itself. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

• DynamicResource and Dynamic Items in ContextMenu on XamDataGrid

  I would like to dynamically create a set of context menu options based upon some properties. Currently, I am creating a context menu as a DynamicResource with the visibility of the menu options bound to the properties, however, it seems that the DynamicResource is created only once, at runtime. Is this true? What I would like to do is have the menu generated each time, which will take into account the property changes on the data object. • Entity Framework 4 "Generate Database from Model" to SQLEXPRESS mdf results in "Could not locate ent

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010 RTM. I want to do model-first, so I started a new MVC app and added a new blank edmx. Created a few entities. No problem. Then I "Generate Database from Model", and allow the dialog to create a new database for me, which it does successfully as 'mydatabase.mdf' in the app's App_Data directory. Then I open the generated sql file (in Visual Studio). To run it of course I have to give it a connection. I am not sure if it's right, but I used '.\SQLEXPRESS' and Windows authentication. No idea how I'd tell it where the MDF is. Then the problem -- upon executing it, I get: Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'mydatabase'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. And indeed there were no tables created in the MDF. So... what am I doing wrong, or am I off my rocker expecting this to work? :)

• How do I set the timeout for a JAX-WS webservice client?

  I've used JAXWS-RI 2.1 to create an interface for my web service, based on a WSDL. I can interact with the web service no problems, but haven't been able to specify a timeout for sending requests to the web service. If for some reason it does not respond the client just seems to spin it's wheels forever. Hunting around has revealed that I should probably be trying to do something like this: ((BindingProvider)myInterface).getRequestContext().put("com.sun.xml.ws.request.timeout", 10000); ((BindingProvider)myInterface).getRequestContext().put("com.sun.xml.ws.connect.timeout", 10000); I also discovered that, depending on which version of JAXWS-RI you have, you may need to set these properties instead: ((BindingProvider)myInterface).getRequestContext().put("com.sun.xml.internal.ws.request.timeout", 10000); ((BindingProvider)myInterface).getRequestContext().put("com.sun.xml.internal.ws.connect.timeout", 10000); The problem I have is that, regardless of which of the above is correct, I don't know where I can do this. All I've got is a Service subclass that implements the auto-generated interface to the webservice and at the point that this is getting instanciated, if the WSDL is non-responsive then it's already too late to set the properties: MyWebServiceSoap soap; MyWebService service = new MyWebService("http://www.google.com"); soap = service.getMyWebServiceSoap(); soap.sendRequestToMyWebService(); Can anyone point me in the right direction?!

• Want custom title / image / description in facebook share link

  Hi! I am making a flash app that demonstrates potensial traffic injuries when driving at different speeds. I want the user to be able to share this information on facebook. However this demands that i can customize the text that will appear on facebook in some manner. I am making an url that is opened in a blank window (from the flash app itself). I specify the u and t parameters, putting the generated message as the t parameter. But this seems to always be overridden by the pages title. If i omit the title tag from the html code, the file name is used (also overriding the specified title). http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://espentokerud.com/face/addiste.html&t=test; I also tried url-encoding the url, but to no avail. http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3a%2f%2fespentokerud.com%2fface%2faddiste.html&t=test; I also tried using the addthis API, but experience the same shortcomings. The funny thing is that if i post a swf, the title and description can be customized, and it is also possible to specify a screenshot. But if i dont post a swf, this seems to be ignored. I am aware that I can use meta tags on the html page to specify the thumbnail image, title and description, but some of this content has to be based on calculations inside the flash app. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction? I am thankful for any help!

• Tracking changes in Entity Framework 4.0 using POCO Dynamic Proxies across multiple data contexts.

  I started messing with EF 4.0 because I am curious about the POCO possibilities... I wanted to simulate disconnected web environment and wrote the following code to simulate this: Save a test object in the database. Retrieve the test object Dispose of the DataContext associated with the test object I used to retrieve it Update the test object Create a new data context and persist the changes on the test object that are automatically tracked within the DynamicProxy generated against my POCO object. The problem is that when I call dataContext.SaveChanges in the Test method above, the updates are not applied. The testStore entity shows a status of "Modified" when I check its EntityStateTracker, but it is no longer modified when I view it within the new dataContext's Stores property. I would have thought that calling the Attach method on the new dataContext would also bring the object's "Modified" state over, but that appears to not be the case. Is there something I am missing? • NSString variable out of scope in sub-class (iPhone/Obj-C)

  I am following along with an example in a book with the code exactly as it is in the example code as well as from the book, and I'm getting an error at runtime. I'll try to describe the life cycle of this variable as good as I can. I have a controller class with a nested array that is populated with string literals (NSArray of NSArrays, the nested NSArrays initialized with arrayWithObjects: where the objects are all string literals - @"some string"). I access these strings with a helper method added via a category on NSArray (to pull strings out of a nested array). My controller gets a reference to this string and assigns it to a NSString property on a child controller using dot notation. The code looks like this (nestedObjectAtIndexPath is my helper method): NSString *rowKey = [rowKeys nestedObjectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; controller.keypath = rowKey; keypath is a synthesized nonatomic, retain property defined in a based class. When I hit a breakpoint in the controller at the above code, the NSString's value is as expected. When I hit the next breakpoint inside the child controller, the object id of the keypath property is the same as before, but instead of showing me the value of the NSString, XCode says that the variable is "out of scope" which is also the error I see in the console. This also happens in another sub-class of the same parent. I tried googling, and I saw slightly similar cases where people were suggesting this had to do with retain counts. I was under the impression that by using dot notation on a synthesized property, my class would be using an "auto generated accessor" that would be increasing my retain count for me so that I wouldn't have this problem. Could there be any implications because I'm accessing it in a sub-class and the prop is defined in the parent? I don't see anything in the book's errata about this, but the book is relatively new (Apress - More iPhone 3 Dev). I also have double checked that my code matches the example 100 times.

• Sending formatted Lotus Notes rich text email from Excel VBA

  I have little Lotus Script or Notes/Domino knowledge but I have a procedure, copied from somewhere a long time ago, that allows me to email through Notes from VBA. I normally only use this for internal notifications where the formatting hasn't really mattered. I now want to use this to send external emails to a client, and corporate types would rather the email complied with our style guide (a sans-serif typeface basically). I was about to tell them that the code only works with plain text, but then I noticed that the routine does reference some sort of CREATERICHTEXTITEM object. Does this mean I could apply some sort of formatting to the body text string after it has been passed to the mail routine? As well as upholding our precious brand values, this would be quite handy to me for highlighting certain passages in the email. I've had a dig about the 'net to see if this code could be adapted, but being unfamiliar with Notes' object model, and the fact that online Notes resources seem to mirror the application's own obtuseness, meant I didn't get very far. • Using QTDesigner with PyQT and Python 2.6

  Hi. I'm fairly new to Python and trying to work with the latest versions of QTDesigner, PyQT 4.7 and QT4.7 (I downloaded the whole package from PyQT4.7 website). I can't figure out how to make QTDesigner integrate closely with Python: ie. If I select "Form" View Code in QTDesigners menu, it errors saying "Unable to launch C:/Python26/Lib/site-packages/PyQT4/bin\uic." If I look in that directory there is a pyuic.py but not "uic". From searching online it seems this doesn't exist because it's expecting a C++ install instead of the python version. Is there anyway to make QTDesigner use/call pyuic.py to generate the code, then open an IDE or text editor of my choice to show me the PYTHON code generated by the QTDesigner-PyUIC chain? I'd like Designer to integrate closely with python, so I can make custom slots/signals in Designer while designing, then tweak the python code directly in my IDE later. If it is not possible to code directly inside QTDesigner using python, does that mean I have to hand code my programs entire UI directly in my PythonIDE? Using Designer directly would seemingly be nearly very very nice for a newbie such as myself, since I can see what properties each widget has and visually edit them while still learning the QT syntax without constantly having to use web resources to see what properties each widget should have and helps with boilerplate code generation, and what their defaults are, etc. I've googled and nobody seems to be using QTDesigner and Python in this manner together. It seems most are either handcoding all the QT code in their Python IDE of choice, or have found an obvious/easy method of doing what I want, therefore not really producing up to date tutorials on making this work together. • MVVM Light Toolkit - RelayCommands, DelegateCommands, and ObservableObjects

  I just started experimenting with Laurent Bugnion's MVVM Light Toolkit. I think I'm going to really like it, but I have a couple questions. Before I get to them, I need to explain where I'm coming from. I currently use a combination of Josh Smith's MVVM Foundation and another project on Codeplex called MVVM Toolkit. I use ObservableObject and Messenger from MVVM Foundation and DelegateCommand and CommandReference from MVVM Toolkit. The only real overlap between MVVM Foundation and MVVM Tookit is that they both have an implementation for ICommand: MVVM Foundation has a RelayCommand and MVVM Tookit has a DelegateCommand. Of these two, DelegateCommand appears to be more sophisticated. It employs a CommandManagerHelper that uses weak references to avoid memory leaks. With that said, a couple questions: Why does MVVM Light Toolkit use RelayCommand rather than DelegateCommand? Is the use of weak references in an ICommand unnecessary or not recommended for some reason? Why is there no ObservableObject in MVVM Light? ObservableObject is basically just the part of ViewModelBase that implements INotifyPropertyChanged, but it's very convenient to have as a separate class because view-models are not the only objects that need to implement INotifyPropertyChanged. For example, let's say you have DataGrid that binds to a list of Person objects. If any of the properties in Person can change while the user is viewing the DataGrid, Person would need to implement INotifyPropertyChanged. (I realize that if Person is auto-generated using something like LinqToSql, it will probably already implement INotifyPropertyChanged, but there are cases where I need to make a view-specific version of entity model objects, say, because I need to include a command to support a button column in a DataGrid.) Has anyone done this?

• AndroMDA maven code generation and JPA Annotations

  I am using the AndroMDA plugin for maven to generate code from an uml diagram made in MagicDraw. When the code is generated, AndroMDA desings the JPA annotation for the persitence layer. I think that at the compilation process AndroMDA uses Naming Strategies to determine the Table and Column names for the DataBase. I want to determine how AndroMDA desings this JPA annotations, because I need to display this DataBase names based on the UML entity and atributtes names. I was regarding if there is an API of AndroMDA that I could use to do this by giving it the uml diagram. Or at least, to know the Naming Strategies used by AndroMDA to achive that. AndroMDA at the compilation process design the JPA annotations for the Entities, Attributes, etc that are written in my java classes under a series of rules that exist within the EJB3 cartridge of AndroMDA. (The further Database is created using those JPA annotations). I want to create a program that returns me the same Table and Attributes names wrote on the JPA annotations, by giving it the .xml file of the uml diagram of a project. I was hoping that I could take advantage of the EJB3 cartridge to generate those Tables and Attribute names with my program. One way could be using an API of AndroMDA that do this(if it exits), or at least, by implementing the same rules used by the EJB3 cartridge for that matter. To be more illustrative, For example: If in my uml model I have an Entity called “CompanyGroup”, AndroMDA would generate the following code for the class definition: @javax.persistence.Entity @javax.persistence.Table(name = "COMPANY_GR") Public class CompanyGroup implements java.io.Serializable, Comparable< CompanyGroup This is just an example (not a real case), but nevertheless, the way how AndroMDA do the translation from “CompanyGroup” to “COMPANY_GR” has to be specified somewhere. • Linking to MSVC DLL from MinGW

  I'm trying to link the LizardTech GeoExpress DSDK into my own application. I use gcc so that we can compile on for platforms. On Linux and Mac this works easily: they provide a static library (libltidsdk.a) and headers and all that we have to do is use them. Compiling for windows isn't so easy. They've built the library using Microsoft Visual Studio, and we use MinGW. I've read the MinGW FAQ, and I'm running into the problems below. The library is all C++, so my first question: is this even possible? Just linking against the dll as provided yields "undefined reference" errors for all of the C++ calls (constructors, desctructors, methods, etc). Based on the MinGW Wiki: http://www.mingw.org/wiki/MSVC%5Fand%5FMinGW%5FDLLs I should be able to use the utility reimp to convert a .lib into something useable. I've tried all of the .lib files provided by LizardTech, and they all give "invalid or corrupt import library". I've tried both version 0.4 and 0.3 of the reimp utility. Using the second method described in the wiki, I've run pexport and dlltool over the dll to get a .a archive, but that produces the same undefined references. BTW: I have read the discussion below. It left some ambiguity as to whether this is possible, and given the MinGW Wiki page it seems like this should be doable. If it is impossible, that's all I need to know. • SPP Socket createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord will not connect

  Hello, I want to use Android 2.1 to connect to an external Bluetooth device, wich is offering an SPP port to me. In this case it is an external GPS unit. When I'm trying to connect I can't connect an established socket while being in the "client" mode. Then if I try to set up a socket (being in the server role), to RECEIVE text from my PC everything works just fine. The Computer can connect as the client to the Socket on the Phone via SPP using the SSP UUID or some random UUID. So the Problem is not that I'm using the wrong UUID. But the other way around (e.g. calling connect on the established client socket) createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID uuid)) just doesn't work. Sadly I don't have the time to inspect the problem further. It would be greate If somebody could point me the right way. In the following part of the Logfile has to be the Problem. • Linq to SQL and concurrency with Rob Conery repository pattern

  I have implemented a DAL using Rob Conery's spin on the repository pattern (from the MVC Storefront project) where I map database objects to domain objects using Linq and use Linq to SQL to actually get the data. This is all working wonderfully giving me the full control over the shape of my domain objects that I want, but I have hit a problem with concurrency that I thought I'd ask about here. I have concurrency working but the solution feels like it might be wrong (just one of those gitchy feelings). The basic pattern is: private MyDataContext _datacontext private Table _tasks; public Repository(MyDataContext datacontext) { _dataContext = datacontext; } public void GetTasks() { _tasks = from t in _dataContext.Tasks; return from t in _tasks select new Domain.Task { Name = t.Name, Id = t.TaskId, Description = t.Description }; } public void SaveTask(Domain.Task task) { Task dbTask = null; // Logic for new tasks omitted... dbTask = (from t in _tasks where t.TaskId == task.Id select t).SingleOrDefault(); dbTask.Description = task.Description, dbTask.Name = task.Name, _dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } So with that implementation I've lost concurrency tracking because of the mapping to the domain task. I get it back by storing the private Table which is my datacontext list of tasks at the time of getting the original task. I then update the tasks from this stored Table and save what I've updated This is working - I get change conflict exceptions raised when there are concurrency violations, just as I want. However, it just screams to me that I've missed a trick. Is there a better way of doing this? I've looked at the .Attach method on the datacontext but that appears to require storing the original version in a similar way to what I'm already doing. I also know that I could avoid all this by doing away with the domain objects and letting the Linq to SQL generated objects all the way up my stack - but I dislike that just as much as I dislike the way I'm handling concurrency.
