• Is there any way to get an ExtJS GridPanel to automatically resize its width, but still be contained

  I want to include an ExtJS GridPanel inside a larger layout, which in turn must be rendered inside a particular div in some pre-existing HTML that I don't control. From my experiments, it appears that the GridPanel only resizes itself correctly if it's within a Viewport. For instance, with this code the GridPanel automatically resizes: new Ext.Viewport( { layout: 'anchor', items: [ { xtype: 'panel', title: 'foo', layout: 'fit', items: [ { xtype: 'grid', // define the grid here... but if I replace the first three lines with the lines below, it doesn't: new Ext.Panel( { layout: 'anchor', renderTo: 'RenderUntoThisDiv', The trouble is, Viewport always renders directly to the body of the HTML document, and I need to render within a particular div. If there is a way to get the GridPanel to resize itself correctly, despite not being contained in a ViewPort, that would be ideal. If not, if I could get the Viewport to render the elements within the div, I'd be fine with that. All of my ExtJS objects can be contained within the same div. Does anybody know of a way to get a GridPanel to resize itself correctly, but still be contained inside some non-ExtJS-generated HTML?

When trying to save a relationship it will try to save a NULL event_id thus generating an error.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 matches correct area route but generates URL to the first registered area instead.

  I'm working on a S#arpArchitecture 1.5 project, which uses ASP.NET MVC 2. I've been trying to get areas to work properly but I ran into a problem: The ASP.NET MVC 2 routing engine matches the correct route to my area but then it generates an URL that belongs to the first registered area instead. Here's my request URL: /Framework/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx I'm using the Route Tester from Phil Haack and it shows: Matched Route: Framework/{controller}/{action}/{id} Generated URL: /Data/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2FDefault.aspx using the route "Data/{controller}/{action}/{id}" That's clearly wrong, the URL should point to the Framework area, not the Data area.   Well I am new to this ORM stuff. We have to create a large project. I read about LINQ to SQL. will it be appropriate to use it in the project of high risk. i found no problem with it personally but the thing is that there will be no going back once started.So i need some feedback from the ORM gurus here at the MSDN. Will entity framework will be better? (I am in doubt about LINK to SQL because I have read and heard negative feedback here and there) I will be using MVC2 as the framework. So please give the feedback about LINQ to SQL in this regard. Q2) Also I am a fan of stored procedure as they are precomputed and fasten up the thing and I have never worked without them.I know that LINQ to SQL support stored procedures but will it be feasible to give up stored procedure seeing the beautiful data access layer generated with little effort as we are also in a need of rapid development. Q3) If some changes to some fields required in the database in LINK to SQL how will the changes be accommodated in the data access layer.

• Thread-safe data structures

  Hello, I have to design a data structure that is to be used in a multi-threaded environment. The basic API is simple: insert element, remove element, retrieve element, check that element exists. The structure's implementation uses implicit locking to guarantee the atomicity of a single API call. After i implemented this it became apparent, that what i really need is atomicity across several API calls. For example if a caller needs to check the existence of an element before trying to insert it he can't do that atomically even if each single API call is atomic: if(!data_structure.exists(element)) { data_structure.insert(element); } The example is somewhat awkward, but the basic point is that we can't trust the result of exists call anymore after we return from atomic context (the generated assembly clearly shows a minor chance of context switch between the two calls). What i currently have in mind to solve this is exposing the lock through the data structure's public API. This way clients will have to explicitly lock things, but at least they won't have to create their own locks. Is there a better commonly-known solution to these kinds of problems? And as long as we're at it, can you advise some good literature on thread-safe design? Thank you.

I open up the web.config from my site. I then click Blocks, then Add data settings... fill in my details and save / close 5) I then (thinking setup is complete) try to get an instance of the database via Dim db As Database = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase() 6) I compile and receive the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=5.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.   I've been working on a little Silverlight utility which calls a Silverlight web service. It works from my dev machine (XPsp2). I've tried publishing it to a 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 server and it doesn't work when trying to contact the web service. So I've tried using the WcfTestClient to connect to the web service.   Hi. I'm trying to write a light-weight HTTP server in my app to feed dynamically generated MP3 data to the built-in Android MediaPlayer. I am not permitted to store my content on the SD card. My input data is essentially of an infinite length. I tell MediaPlayer that its data source should basically be something like "http://localhost/myfile.mp3". I've a simple server set up that waits for MediaPlayer to make this request. However, MediaPlayer isn't very cooperative. At first, it makes an HTTP GET and tries to grab the whole file. It times out if we try and simply dump data into the socket so we tried using the HTTP Range header to write data in chunks. MediaPlayer doesn't like this and doesn't keep requesting the subsequent chunks. Has anyone had any success streaming data directly into MediaPlayer? Do I need to implement an RTSP or Shoutcast server instead? Am I simply missing a critical HTTP header? What strategy should I use here? Rob Szumlakowski

• IE8 CSS selector selects, but does not apply the style.

  This is making me want to kill myself. I have some really simple CSS to style my input objects: input, button { border: 1px solid #c66600; background-color: white; color: #7d212f; font-family: "Eras Light ITC", Tahoma, sans; } But I don't like the ugly border it puts around radio buttons, so I use a selector to kill the border: input[type=radio] { border: none; } You can probably guess what browsers this works in and which ONE it does not work in. What's funny is when I press F12 to launch the excellent developer tools in IE8 it actually tells me that the style of the radio buttons has been overridden to 'none' just like I asked it to do, but the border remains on the radio button objects. I have tried a variety of semantic things, like setting the border width to 0px or the color to something insane like lime green, but it remains the originally assigned color that it got from the first style. And finally, I have tried only styling 'text' objects, in which case no style is applied to anything. Again, the browser claims to fulfill the CSS selection, but it visually does not happen. Thoughts? By the way, this is a DotNetNuke installation with generated code where I can't explicitly set the style of the radio buttons. Thanks, Dan

  Hello. I have one problem I've been dealing with for this week. You see, I'm new to Java, so that's probably it... Anyways, I've started a project out of pure curiosity. I had it done in Java, but in plain CMD-style, which is not very pretty. It calls one of my ten programs, chosen by the user using "Case". Eg.: If you type 1, it will go to program 1. After you finish it, it goes back to selection until the user press 0. After that, I've been trying to make a GUI for it. I've been able to create the selector alone and make it respond to the numbers chosen. If you press 1 and click ok, it will tell you you've chosen program 1. I, however, have not been able to make it run the program. I've been trying to make the program show up in a jPanel, part of the main GUI. I failed miserably. The program runs in separate but I can't make them run together like the CMD one.   Hi, I am trying to implement a simple web service provider using Tomcat6, CXF 2.2, Spring 3, and actually the service itself runs fine (I can call web methods using the original WSDL and SoapUI). However, Tomcat returns a blank page on "?wsdl" requests. Also, when I try to manipulate the (would-be) published WSDL by adding a publishedEndpointURL property to the jaxws:endpoint element, Tomcat will issue a XML parse exception (something like property publishedEndpointURL is not allowed in element jaxws:endpoint) <jaxws:endpoint id="service" implementor="org.sample.ServiceImpl" implementorClass="org.sample.ServiceImpl" address="/service" publishedEndpointURL="http://localhost:8080/MyService/service"> I used "contract first" style. • Notification Email Best Practices--From Server Setup to Programming

  All, I'm in the process now of building a SaaS tool that allows network admins to generate notification emails to the members of the end-users of our platform (among many many other things). I'm running into a bit of an "out of my expertise" wall, as I know there are a lot of variables involved with configuring an application that can: Run in a distributed way via load balancing and still-- Leverage a single mail server for sending notification emails Process unsubscribe requests Avoid any ISP blacklisting in the process. If anyone has the time and has done this before, I'd love if you could walk me through the A-Z of best practices both from a configuration perspective and an execution perspective for generating these emails (anything from necessary DNS settings to ideal SMTP setup and configuration) Currently, our application generates email via Google Apps using the PHPMailer class. While this works well, it doesn't queue messages (potential for timeout problems if any of our clients amass a very large list of end-users), and Google limits the amount of allowed generated email messages to 500/day. I know this is a lofty question, but any guidance you could provide would be smashing and a big help as we work through this hurtle in our beta development stage. Thanks!

Is there a way to have inline forms functionality with crispy-forms/bootstrap like django-admin forms have? I'm not looking for a way to get the forms auto-generated from models (that's nice but not the most important) - is there a way to construct a form that will let you add 'rows' of data like django-admin does?

• WPF TreeViewItem Context Menu Unhighlights Item

  I have been having problems with this for some time now, and have come up with some less-than-desirable solutions. The problem is that when a TreeViewItem's context menu is opened, the TreeViewItem is greyed out. Is it possible for a TreeViewItem to stay highlighted while its ContextMenu is open? The problem with the TreeViewItem greying out, is that it gives no relation to the context menu and the TreeViewItem, and it looks ugly. Generally, the code I use for setting a context menu is this. Sometimes the context menu will be generated by the code with a PreviewRightMouseButtonDown EventSetter, but it doesn't make a difference. <TreeView> <TreeView.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TreeViewItem}"> <Setter Property="ContextMenu"> <Setter.Value> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 1" /> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 2" /> </ContextMenu> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </TreeView.Resources> <TreeViewItem Header="Item 1"> <TreeViewItem Header="Sub-Item 1"/> </TreeViewItem> <TreeViewItem Header="Item 2"></TreeViewItem> </TreeView> So far the only solution I have found is to override the "grey" unfocused color with the focused color, but then the TreeView never seems unfocused, such as when another control is clicked on.   We are in the process of migrating our ASP.NET MVC 1.0 web app to MVC 2.0 but we have run into a small snag. In our report creation wizard, it is possible leave the Title text box empty and have it be populated with a generic title (in the post action). • Entity Framework 4.0 Databinding with sorting not working

  I want to do something that I thought would be very simple. I want to bind a generated Entity Framework EntityCollection to a WPF DataGrid. I also want this grid to be sortable. I have tried all kinds of things to make this happen, including using a CollectionViewSource. However, nothing seems to work. Using a normal CollectionViewSource around the EntityCollection gives me: 'System.Windows.Data.BindingListCollectionView' view does not support sorting. Ok...strange. I would have thought this would work. Next on the CollectionViewSource, I try setting: CollectionViewType="ListCollectionView" Great, sorting now works. But wait, I can't add or remove entities using the grid now, presumably because ListCollectionView doesn't support this with an entity framework context. So, I guess I need to capture events coming out of the datagrid in order to add or remove entities manually from my context. Now I can't find an event to capture to detect an add...! Why is this so hard? This should be the standard "demo" case that Microsoft should have designed around. Any ideas?

• SQLiteQueryBuilder.buildQuery not using selectArgs?

  Alright, I'm trying to query a sqlite database. I was trying to be good and use the query method of SQLiteDatabase and pass in the values in the selectArgs parameter to ensure everything got properly escaped, but it wouldn't work. I never got any rows returned (no errors, either). I started getting curious about the SQL that this generated so I did some more poking around and found SQLiteQueryBuilder (and apparently Stack Overflow doesn't handle links with parentheses in them well, so I can't link to the anchor for the buildQuery method), which I assume uses the same logic to generate the SQL statement. I did this: SQLiteQueryBuilder builder = new SQLiteQueryBuilder(); builder.setTables(BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TABLE_NAME); String sql = builder.buildQuery(new String[] { BarcodeDb.Barcodes.ID, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TIMESTAMP, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TYPE, BarcodeDb.Barcodes.VALUE }, "? = '?' AND ? = '?'", new String[] { BarcodeDb.Barcodes.VALUE, barcode.getValue(), BarcodeDb.Barcodes.TYPE, barcode.getType()}, null, null, null, null); Log.d(tag, "Query is: " + sql); The SQL that gets logged at this point is: SELECT _id, timestamp, type, value FROM barcodes WHERE (? = '?' AND ? = '?') However, here's what the documentation for SQLiteQueryBuilder.buildQuery says about the selectAgs parameter: You may include ?s in selection, which will be replaced by the values from selectionArgs, in order that they appear in the selection. ...but it isn't working. Any ideas?

• Hidden Field losing its Value on postback

  I have a ascx page where I am using a hidden field to store the value of a the drop down box as it is generated using a google address finder. My problem is that when I try to store the value directly in the hidden field : hfDdlVerifyID.Value = ddlVerifySS.SelectedValue; in the event of a button click, the value is stored but on postback is lost again. • How to control the download url for dotNetFx35setup.exe without using the Visual Studio bootstrapper

  Previously I've used to Visual Studio 2008 setup.bin to generate a bootstrapper. I had some issues with it which were difficult to resolve and turned to dotNetInstaller. One great thing with the VS 2008 generated bootstrapper, was that I was able to control the download location for the .NET framework. By using the MSBuild task I could specify the componentsLocation: <GenerateBootstrapper ApplicationFile="$(TargetFileName)" ApplicationName="MyApp" ApplicationUrl="http://$(InstallerHost)$(DownloadUrl)" BootstrapperItems="@(BootstrapperFile)" CopyComponents="True" ComponentsLocation="Relative" OutputPath="$(OutputPath)" Path="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\" /> Here I'm able to use the ComponentsLocation="Relative" and the bootstrapper would download from our own web server - which is what I want. When I no longer have the VS 2008 bootstrapper, I would like to have the same feature. The new boostrapper downloads the dotNetFx35setup.exe from a defined server, but the problem is that this ".NET bootstrapper" connects to Microsoft's servers for downloading the needed packages. Trying to run the following command: dotNetFx35setup.exe /? did not show any options to control the download location. The web server will contain the package structure which the Windows SDK (v6.0A) has within the Bootstrapper\Packages directory. The structure looks like this: Packages DotNetFX DotNetFX30 DotNetFX35 DotNetFx35Client DotNetFx35SP1 ..... When I state a dependency to the .NET Framework 3.5, the DotNetFX35 directory structure gets copied into the bin/Debug directory. I've copied this directory onto the web server and it looks like this: DotNetFX35 dotNetFX20 dotNetFX30 dotNetFX35 x64 netfx35_x64.exe x86 netfx35_x86.exe dotNetMSP dotNetFx35setup.exe The other directories contains mainly MSI, MSP and MSU files. So any pointers on how to control downloading of the .NET framework. Shouldn't I use the dotNetFx35setup.exe file? If not - which should I use?

• What do these MS DTC Exceptions mean?

  I wrote a program to demonstrate the behavior of DTC timeouts with multiple threads. I'm getting several exceptions, seemingly at random. Are all of these simple Timeouts, or are some of them indicative of deeper problems (connection pool interactions, etc)? The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has cancelled the distributed transaction. Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction. The transaction associated with the current connection has completed but has not been disposed. The transaction must be disposed before the connection can be used to execute SQL statements. The operation is not valid for the state of the transaction. ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed.
