• Disable debug output in libxml2 and xmlsec

  Hi, In my software, I use libxml2 and xmlsec to manipulate (obviously) XML data structures. I mainly use XSD schema validation and so far, it works well. When the data structure input by the client doesn't match the XSD schema, libxml2 (or xmlsec) output some debug strings to the console. Here is an example: Entity: line 1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found DUMMY<?xml ^ While those strings are useful for debugging purposes, I don't want them to appear and polute the console output in the released software. So far, I couldn't find an official way of doing this. Do you know how to suppress the debug output or (even better) to redirect it to a custom function ? Many thanks.

• Listening and firing events with Javascript and maybe jQuery

  In my Javascript and Flex applications, users often perform actions that I want other Javascript code on the page to listen for. For example, if someone adds a friend. I want my Javascript app to then call something like triggerEvent("addedFriend", name);. Then any other code that was listening for the "addedFriend" event will get called along with the name. Is there a built-in Javascript mechanism for handling events? I'm ok with using jQuery for this too and I know jQuery makes extensive use of events. But with jQuery, it seems that its event mechanism is all based around elements. As I understand, you have to tie a custom event to an element. I guess I can do that to a dummy element, but my need has nothing to do with DOM elements on a webpage. Should I just implement this event mechanism myself?

• Student wanting to go to a developer conference

  I'm a 21 year old student in my last year of University, and I am looking for information about developer conferences. I live in Derby (United Kingdom) and there's not (As far as I know) many conferences local to where I live. I do have a car at my disposal so travelling shouldn't be a problem. I was hoping somebody could recommend the best way to go about finding and attending a conference, which one is probably the best to go to and what kind of things I'd need to know and take beforehand. I've done a couple of Google searches and searched SO itself but nothing specific to my needs was found. Note: I'm primarily a C# developer using WPF and WinForms but I'm open to pretty much anything.

• Exposing.NET assembly as COM 101

  I have trouble to expose a .NET assembly in COM. It seems that I must be missing some basic step because I think I followed all tutorials and documentation I found as well as common sense, but still when I do (in a test VBScript): Set o = CreateObject("MyLib.MyClass") It keeps saying that the object cannot be created. Here are the steps I have done: I have simple one method dummy class with no attributes. The class is in a class library which has "Make assembly COM-visible" ticked in Visual Studio. The class library is signed. The DLL is registered via RegAsm.exe with the /codebase parameter (I don’t want / cannot add the DLL to GAC). Just to be sure, I tried to copy the library to the same directory as the test VBScript, but it does not help. Edit: I should have mentioned that the I can instantiate the class in COM if I put the DLL into GAC.

  Every so often, technology pundits (i.e. people not involved in the game, but who like commenting about it) throw out big controversial statements (typically to increase their readership), with a common one being that "Technology/platform X is dead". My former colleague (who I guess is now my distant colleague) uses the same trick with his blog post: "iPhone 4 is dead". • Data binding directly to a store query (DbSet, DbQuery, DbSqlQuery) is not supported.

  HiI was doing some test with code first approach in EF. Then while populating the Gridview i was getting error like thisData binding directly to a store query (DbSet, DbQuery, DbSqlQuery) is not supported. Instead populate a DbSet with data, for example by calling Load on the DbSet, and then bind to local data. For WPF bind to DbSet.Local. For WinForms bind to DbSet.Local.ToBindingList().For solving this error we have to write the code like this private void FillGrid()        {            using (var Context = new EmpDatabaseContext())            {                var query = Context.Emps.Select(m => m);                //var query = from m in Context.Emps                //            select m;               // Gridview1.DataSource = query;                Gridview1.DataSource = query.ToList();                Gridview1.DataBind();            }        }  We canot bind Iqueryable directly.   We need to get some good books on Sybase ASE 15 for our developers. The people in the team have previous experience with different SQL flavors (MS SQL, MySQL, Informix and Oracle) but no one worked with Sybase before. Therefore I am looking for two kinds of books: Book for developers on how to use Sybase for queries,sprocs, views etc. Has to be a book for professionals and not something like 'learn SQL in 21 day' Book for the DB administrator on how to maintain the database. This could be on any level and a dummy guide would not go wrong :) Thank you

  Question A. Given 1. A string in rich text format that may have paragraph, tabs, space, line break, indentation, (or even image?) 2. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

• Run another version of Python using virtualenv

  I apologize in advance if the question is dummy ,i use Python 3.2.3 on Windows xp ,now i need Python3.3.2 , but i can't remove Python 3.2.3 because i have many codes and packages need to be run by it. I installed virtualenv to run two versions of Python in two different environments , but after that i didn't know what to do to run a code using Python 3.3.2 , here what i did: C:\>virtualenv.exe env1 C:\>env1\Scripts\activate now i don't know what to do after a folder was created its name env1 , i downloaded Python 3.3.2 and installed it in the same folder (env1) , is that correct ? then i try the following: (env1) C:\>python3.3.2 I got the following : 'python3.3.2' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. also i tried : (env1) C:\>python python33 I got the following: python: can't open file 'python33': [Errno 2] No such file or directory As i mentioned , i stuck at this point , any help will be very appreciated.   I have 2 comboBoxes in my View of Griffon App (or groovy swingBuilder) country = comboBox(items:country(), selectedItem: bind(target:model, 'country', value:model.country), actionPerformed: controller.getStates) state = comboBox(items:bind(source:model, sourceProperty:'states'), selectedItem: bind(target:model, 'state', value:model.state)) The getStates() in the controller, populates @Bindable List states = [] in the model based on the country selected. The above code doesn't give any errors, but the states are never populated. I changed the states from being List to a range object(dummy), it gives me an error MissingPropertyException No such property items for class java.swing.JComboBox. Am I missing something here? There are a couple of entries related to this on Nabble but nothing is clear. The above code works if I had a label instead of a second comboBox.

  I just read the Professional C# 4 and .NET 4 from wrox, wrote by Christian Nagel, Bill Evjen, Jay Glynn, Karli Watson and Morgan Skinner. This is a complete book in whats in .NET 4 as well as a great book for anybody jumping in .NET. They did a great job including all the important parts of .NET as well as the new version 4. As I was reading, my first impression was how far .NET has gone since version 1.0, the different platforms including WPF, Silverlight, ASP.NET ADO.NET, LINQ and PLINQ now...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Only apply the property till the text, not whole the line

  Here is my the dummy test. Here is the HTML stuff: <h1> Header </h1> Here is the CSS stuff: body { background: pink; } h1 { background-color: #454545; } The webpage is rendered something like this:                      As you can se in this image, I applied the property to the <h1>, but the whole line has its effect. What I want is, the gray background till the word "Header", not more than that (Background color is just an example. This is not only the case.).

• "The left hand side of an assignment must be a variable" due to extra parentheses

  I know why the following code doesn't compile: public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { main((null)); // this is fine! (main(null)); // this is NOT! } } What I'm wondering is why my compiler (javac 1.6.0_17, Windows version) is complaining "The left hand side of an assignment must be a variable". I'd expect something like "Don't put parentheses around a method invokation, dummy!", instead. So why is the compiler making a totally unhelpful complaint about something that is blatantly irrelevant? Is this the result of an ambiguity in the grammar? A bug in the compiler? If it's the former, could you design a language such that a compiler would never be so off-base about a syntax error like this?

• Excel VBA: NetworkDays Error 2015

  Hi All, I have the this bit of code in a VBA class which is to workout the number of days between a property of the class (a date) and today’s date. Dim EmailDate As Date EmailDate = Me.Email.DateReceived Debug.Print EmailDate, Date Debug.Print NetworkDays(EmailDate), Date, Range("BankHolidays")) When I run it I get the following output 23/04/2010 19/05/2010 [GetMacroRegId] 'NETWORKDAYS' < [GetMacroRegId] 'NETWORKDAYS' -> '699990072' > Error 2015 I have tested it in a module, using dummy data, and get the correct answer. Can anyone see why this would be giving an error in a class? I have referenced atpvbaen.xls. Edit: I have found that when I run the code through a menu option I have created on the menu bar it fails, but when I run it via a button or through the VB Editor it works fine. Looks like it is something to do with the menu. Thanks, Martin

• Why eGet() in EMF returns Object rather than EObject?

  I am working on some code using the EMF framework in Java, but it is really hard to use, e.g. I cannot implement OCL-like query API on top of EMF which would be type-safe. One of the reasons is that eGet() for a EStructuralFeature return just an Object, not EObject. So anything I would write must use much of null checking, type checking and type casting which is unsafe, not performant and cannot be generalized in a reusable way. Why doesn't EMF generate dummy implementations with EObject wrappers for arbitrary Object value? Implementing the EObject and hence the EClass interfaces even with simple throw UnsupportedOperationException is really a pain (the APIs are too big). The same holds for the eContainer() method which makes navigatinng the model upwards painful.

  Hello I have a problem search through the photo tag that facebook user got tagged. SELECT pid FROM subject = uid uid = are the friend of the logged in user. I have received a list of tagged for particular user since I wanted to count how many he/she being tagged, I counted on my server code after retreive an XML from facebook. I can see some of my friends got tagged 60, when I looked at his/her profiles, he/she has more than 60 around 200 tagged photos. Did I miss anything in my query? I created a dummy account and upload a photo including tagging but I receive the right number of tagged photos of his.

• jQuery width() returns 0 for a span element created on the fly?

  Hi, I'm trying to determine the width of a string. I'm using the following code but it always return 0. It seems to be that as the span element is created and not already present in the page body, jQuery width() returns 0. Is there a way such that I can get the width of the text without resorting to creating dummy html code in the page? • Non-existent file in limbo prevents push to remote branch (Bazaar VCS)

  Hi! I use Bazaar VCS to version files locally on my notebook. When im in the office I merge the changes to a repository on a windows share and also push all the files there (for backup reasons). My Problem: The last push resulted in an error, because I added a file with a very long filename (I had that problem before ... python doesn't like long filenames). So I removed the file (I didn't need it anyway) and forgot about the problem for a while, because commiting still worked fine. The next time I wanted to push my new revision I got a new error: bzr: ERROR: [Error 3] Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden: u'//path/to/remote/branch/.bzr/checkout/limbo/new-8/loooooooongfilename.xls' translation: bzr: ERROR: [Error 3] The system can't find the following path: What I've tried: Deleting the limbo folder-- limbo folder doesn't exist Create the missing path with a dummy-file -- bazaar locks the branch -- unlock -- same problem as before bzr check -- Everything is fine -- No success bzr reconcile -- No success Thanks for reading ;o)

• Asp.net TreeView control - maximum number of nodes

  I have a treeView control in ASP.NET page that will be loaded with up to 12,000 nodes in different levels. For example: Node 1 Node 1.1 … Node 1.400 Node 1.400.1 … Node 1.400.6400 Node 2 Node 3 Node 4 According to this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms529261.aspx the node limit is 1000. Is this correct or is it dependent on available memory(please specify value)? Assuming it is correct. is there any way to split the 4600 child nodes in say in chunks of 300 hundred? I am thinking that if dummy nodes are used (previous /next navigation) to navigate the chunks will easy the load of the html page. Sample code in C# will be greatly appreciated. (Or VB.NET if you can not translate it to C#)

  I'm trying to create a child process in another process. I am writing both the programs in C language. First I write a dummy process which will be the child process. What it is doing is only to write a string on the screen. It works well on its own. Then I write another program which will be the parent process. However, I can't make it happen. I'm trying to use fork and execl functions together, but I fail. I also want the child process does not terminate until the parent process terminates. How should I write the parent process? Thanks.

• MS Environment: How to force link a static library to another using .vsprops, if possible?

  Environment: VS 2008 in Windows. Problem: A static library, say first.lib is not linked to, say second.lib, if first.lib is specified in .vsprops file and none of its functions is referenced in the second.lib. If, however, first.lib is removed from the .vsprops file and placed instead in the appropriate project options dialog(1), it is linked, even if its functions remain unreferenced. (1) Project - Properties - Configuration Properties - Linker - Input. Our solution uses .vsprops exclusively and to somehow be able to specify first.lib in such a file with additional tweaking of some settings would be considered a more elegant solution. Using a dummy function to pull in unused functions of first.lib is not an option. Thanks in advance.
