• Redirect away from HTTPS with ASP.NET MVC App

  I'm using ASP.NET MVC 2 and have a login page that is secured via HTTPS. To ensure that the user always accesses those pages via SSL, I've added the attribute [RequiresHttps] to the controller. This does the job perfectly. When they have successfully logged in, I'd like to redirect them back to HTTP version. However, there isn't a [RequiresHttp] attribute and I'm struggling to get my head around how I might achieve this. The added (potential) complication is that the website when in production is hosted at the route of the domain, but for development and testing purposes it is within a sub directory / virtual directory / application. Am I over-thinking this and is there an easy solution staring me in the face? Or is it a little more complex?

• Best design for generating code from an AST?

  I'm working on a pretty complex DSL that I want to compile down into a few high level languages. The whole process has been a learning experience. The compiler is written in java. I was wondering if anyone knew a best practice for the design of the code generator portion. I currently have everything parsed into an abstract syntax tree. I was thinking of using a template system, but I haven't researched that direction too far yet as I would like to hear some wisdom first from stack overflow. Thanks!

• SQL - Counting sets of Field-B values for each Field-A value

  Hello, First of all sorry that I could not think of a more descriptive title. What I want to do is the following using only SQL: I have some lists of strings, list1, list2 and list3. I have a dataset that contains two interesting columns, A and B. Column A contains a TransactionID and column B contains an ItemID. Naturally, there can be multiple rows that share the same TransactionIDs. I need to catch those transactions that have at least one ItemID in each and every list (list1 AND list2 AND list3). I also need to count how many times does that happen for each transaction. [EDIT] That is, count how many full sets of ItemIDs there are for each TransactionID", "Full Set" being any element of the list1 with any element of the list2 with any element of the list3 I hope that makes enough sense, perhaps I will be able to explain it better with a clear head. • Lua : Dynamicly calling a function with arguments.

  Using Lua, I'm trying to dynamicly call a function with parameters. What I want to have it done is I send a string to be parsed in a way that : 1st argument is a class instance "Handle" 2nd is the function to be called All that is left are arguments "modules" is a a table like { string= } split() is a simple parser that returns a table with indexed strings function Dynamic(msg) local args = split(msg, " ") module = args[1] table.remove(args, 1) if module then module = modules[module] command = args[1] table.remove(args, 1) if command then if not args then module[command]() else module[command](unpack(args)) -- Reference 1 end else -- Function doesnt exist end else -- Module doesnt exist end end When I try this with "ignore remove bob", by "Reference 1", it tries to call "remove" on the instance associated with "ignore" in modules, and gives the argument "bob", contained in a table (with a single value). However, on the other side of the call, the remove function does not receive the argument. I even tried to replace the "Reference 1" line with module[command]("bob") but I get the same result.

• sproutcore or cappucino for web app development?

  I recently found out about the sproutcore and capuccino frameworks for web app development as proper MVC approach to creating Desktop-like applications. As far as I could understand, the main difference between the two frameworks is that Cappucino abstracts away the HTML+CSS+Javascript to Objective-J - a new programming language developed be the creators of Capuccino that adds OO capabilities to Javascript, whereas Sproutcore uses HTML5,CSS,Javascript. After lots of pondering, I thought it's probably best to go with technologies we know, so I downloaded the Sproutcore tools and did the tutorials, and I have to say I was very impressed. Just the kind of thing I was looking for, for organizing a complex web app. However, I just stumbled across the following link: http://charlesjolley.sys-con.com/node/1341228 in which Charles Jolley (the creator of Sproutcore) syas that he's tired of waiting for the HTML5 and ECMAScript5 specs to get finalized, and announces that from version 1.1 onwards they will be switching to Objective-J ! So now the question is - what will actually differentiate Sproutcore and Capuccino - and which one should I choose now? Kind Regards Swami

  In my application I'm exporting an Excel file by getting the layout of a HTML page. So, in my codebehind, I'm modifying the HTML layout and inserting itens on it like if it was a webpage. Doing it that way, I don't need to use any external library and, as the data I'm exporting is just a table, I don't need nothing complex to handle it. My question is: there is a way to create an AutoFilter by just modifying the HTML tags? I mean, like if a put a < bColumn Name in the HTML, when exporting to Excel it will become Bold, it is possible to do the same thing with the AutoFilter?

  Hello! Please, don't judge strictly if this question was discussed previously or indirectly answered in huge nearby prism and mvvm blogs. In WPF implementation of RelayCommand or DelegateCommand classes there is a such eventhandler /// <summary> /// Occurs whenever the state of the application changes such that the result of a call to <see cref="CanExecute"/> may return a different value. /// </summary> public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged { add { CommandManager.RequerySuggested += value; } remove { CommandManager.RequerySuggested -= value; } } but in SL subset of namespaces there are no CommandManager class. And this is where I'm stuck. I haven't yet found an workaround for this in MVVM adoptation for SL (PRISM is so complex for me yet). Different simple HelloWorldMVVM apps don't deal with at all. • How do I protect myself?

  I was poking around at my work computer this evening and was looking at my timesheets. I noticed that all my timesheets had variables in the URLs and I could figure out the numbering scheme for the pages. Then I got a little curious about SQL injection and thought of trying out adding simple SQL injections like "OR 1=1" etc. to see how protected we really were with our timesheet info. One of these strings yielded a friendly error page saying that an error email was sent to the developer. I am concerned that my ID, and request will be seen by the developer , immediately recognized as SQL injection and will be reported to network security officer as a malicious attempt by an employee to hack the timesheet dB. what is my defense? I am really worried.

  I have a string in Python 2.7.2 say u"\u0638". When I write it to file: f = open("J:\\111.txt", "w+") f.write(u"\u0638".encode('utf-16')) f.close() In hex it looks like: FF FE 38 06 When i print such a string to stdout i will see: '\xff\xfe8\x06'. The querstion: Where is \x38 in the string output to stdout? In other words why the string output to stdout is not '\xff\xfe\x38\x06'? If I write the string to file twice: f = open("J:\\111.txt", "w+") f.write(u"\u0638".encode('utf-16')) f.write(u"\u0638".encode('utf-16')) f.close() The hex representation in file contains byte order mark (BOM) \xff\xfe twice: FF FE 38 06 FF FE 38 06 I wonder what is the techique to avoid writting BOM in UTF-16 encoded strings?

• how to remove a few lines from a Unicode registry file using batch commands in Windows?

  Hi. I have a program who's generating some data in registry. I save it with "reg export HKCU\Software\ProgramName\Data data.reg" (Unicode format). I need to take it to other computer and import it there so the program from that computer could use the data. But I have to remove some text lines from data.reg. The text lines are easy to find because they contain some strings. Now I'm doing this manually (using Wordpad) every few days but maybe there is another way... Oh and I can't install other programs on these computers (the access is restricted) so I have to use batch/cmd files. What I tried so far: - redirecting the export to "con" but is visual only not in a variable; - using "for /F ..." but this works only with ANSI and removes blank lines. Can somebody please help me...? Thank you.

• Can someone recommend a resource/site/book to improve problem solving skills

  I am a reasonably experienced developer (.NET, c#, asp.NET etc) but I'd like to hone my problem solving skills. I find that when I come up against a complex problem I sometimes implement a solution that I feel could have been better had I analyzed the problem in a different way. Ideally what I am looking for is a resource of some type that has 'practice problems and solutions' as I think my skills will only get better by practicing this more and adopting better practices. I hope my question is not to vague and I wont get upset with people answering with opinions etc.. thanks

• Open source political campaign management software?

  Does anyone know of any active open source projects working on political campaign management software? I looked on sourceforge but didn't see anything relevant from the queries "political", "politics", "donations", "campaign", or in the categories "accounting", "politics" or "voting". I'm involved with a political campaign that is currently paying out the nose for some horribly designed SaaS (whose Name i Guess i should Protect, ahem) to basically just keep track of donations people have made now, donations people have made in the past, donations people have pledged to make, contact information, the way they will likely vote, etc. It's a bit much to manage in spreadsheets, but doesn't seem like it's something complex enough that political campaigns should have to pay for (especially low-budget local ones). I'd love to help out if such a project exists, or start/revive one if it doesn't. Any hints, places to look, etc are much appreciated.

  I have sorted list of strings that I move between php and java. to be able to bsearch on this data, I need the same comparison function. any idea what string compare functions I can use that will always give the same result in both? eg php's strcmp() vs java's String.compareTo() yes I know I could make my own string compare that does char by char carefully, but I was hoping there's a simple answer. PS, don't care if case sensitive or not, as long as it is consistant.

  I use ResourceManager for UI localization of my WinCE 5 software. I have some resource files with text strings on different languages Resourse.resx Resourse.de-DE.resx Resourse.ru-RU.resx When I want to display UI in English I call: Resourse.Culture = new CultureInfo("en-US"); label1.Text = Resourse.LabelText; in German: Resourse.Culture = new CultureInfo("de-DE"); label1.Text = Resourse.LabelText; in Russian: Resourse.Culture = new CultureInfo("ru-RU"); label1.Text = Resourse.LabelText; but here I get PlatformNotSupportedException. I know that my WinCE does not contain Russian and I cannot modify OS to appened this, so my question is how I can say to ResourceManger to use Resourse.ru-RU.resx when I set Culture = new CultureInfo("ru-RU") ?

• Convert Hexadecimal String to Data

  Hi Stack Overflow, I have found a whole lot of different solutions to this problem, but not all of them work, and a lot of them seem somewhat hacky and inefficient. Basically I have a string of hexadecimal data (i.e. "55 AA 41 2A 00 94 55 AA BB BB 00 FF") which I would like to convert to raw data. What is the best way to do this? • ASP.NET MVC based CMS - dynamic generation of form helpers

  I am working on an ASP.NET MVC based CMS that presents a rather extreme case. The system must allow the user to add custom content types based on different fields, and for every field, one can add options and validations. The thing is that everything is stored in a complex DB and extracted at runtime using LINQ. I am pretty fresh with ASPNET MVC so the following dilemma came to mind How should I make the content creation view so that form helpers are not predefined int he view code but are loaded based on the type of the field ? Do I have to create a factory class that checks the value of the type property of the field, and then returns a helper based on that or there's a better way to do it. This one seems pretty rigid to me , because anytime I make a change in the Fieldtypes table, I will have to make sure to create a check for that new type too.

  I have built an ERP using Sql Server as a back-end. These are the different types of Client documents (there are also Supplier Docs): Order -- impact: BO Delivery Note (also used for returns, with negative quantity) --impact: BO, Stock Invoice --impact: accounting only Credit Note --impact: accounting, BO I use a complex system of self joins (at detail level) to find out the quantities in each OrderDetail that still have a backorder (BO). It'd like to simplify this using a [group] field that could be used through all detail line related to an original order. There are many difficult things to trace: a Return of a product may be due to a defect and thus increase the BO, or it can be just a return, joined with a Credit Note, and then has no impact on BO. My question is: do you know of any real good reference (book, web) for this matter ?

  This is a design question better explained with a Stack Overflow analogy: Users can earn Badges. Users, Badges and Earned Badges are stored in the database. A Badge’s logic is run by a Badge Condition Strategy. I would prefer not to have to store Badge Condition Strategies in the database, because they are complex tree structure objects. How do I associate a Badge stored in the database with its Badge Condition Strategy? I can only think of workaround solutions. For example: create 1 class per badge and use a SINGLE_TABLE inheritance strategy. Or get the badge from the database, and then programmatically lookup and inject the correct Badge Condition Strategy. Thanks for suggesting a better design.

  Hello Everyone, I would really appreciate your help with finding out how long it takes a 1-3 year experenced programmer to convert a few HTML pages into joomla 1.5 dynamic pages. I know that some of it depends on how complex the pages are but i'm talking about average pages. That's my first question, my other question is how long will it take a 1-3 year experenced programmer to install all of these componants: Video module, photo gallery module, vertuemart shopping cart.   I want to create classes Car, Vehicle, and Airplane with the following properties: Car and Airplane are both subclasses of Vehicle. Car and Airplane both have an initWithString method. The acceptable input strings for Car's and Airplane's initWithString methods do not overlap. Vehicle is "almost abstract", in the sense that any initialized instance should be either a Car or an Airplane. It is possible to pass a string into Vehicle and get back an instance of Car, an instance of Airplane, or nil, depending on the input string. Any particular design pattern I should prefer? In particular for Vehicle's initWithString and/or newVehicleWithString methods.

  How can I subscribe to a ObservableCollection<??> without knowing the element type of the collection? Is there a way to do this without too many 'magic strings'?
