• iphone: accessing the preferences localization file from code

  I was just facing the following problem and couldn't find a solution for it. Hopefully someone could help. The app I am working on has some preferences, which are using a localization file. Now I want to use labels in my app, which display the exact names, which are used in the localization file for the preferences. But I couldn't find a way to access the information which is stored in Settings.bundle - en.lproj - localizationfile.strings. to make this clear: If you open your preferences for your app, the display shows the localized string of the title and the value of the setting. I need to access the localized string of the title of each preference from my code. Does any know how to do this?

  From what I understood I can use pattern-matching in a match ... with expression with tuples of values, so something like match b with ("<", val) -> if v < val then true else false | ("<=", val) -> if v <= val then true else false should be correct but it gives me a syntax error as if the parenthesis couldn't be used: File "ocaml.ml", line 41, characters 14-17: Error: Syntax error: ')' expected File "ocaml.ml", line 41, characters 8-9: Error: This '(' might be unmatched referring on first match clause.. Apart from that, can I avoid matching strings and applying comparisons using a sort of eval of the string? Or using directly the comparison operator as the first element of the tuple?

  Hi, ever since I added this htaccess to my website, I noticed a HUGE slowdown, and my error logs are filled with errors such as PHP Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in page.php on line 79. I've got up to four of these per second. Most of the time it works though. The htaccess consisted of two similar rules: one with two GET vars, another one with only one. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)\/(.*)$ index.php?var1=$1&var2=$2 [L] Anyway, I just rewrote a PHP script that handles of all the strings and redirects where it should, and my website is now fast again. But is there a way to hide mypage.php?var1=la&var2=lu and still have URLs that look like folders? Thanks for your replies!

  Hi. I have a list of regexes in python, and a string. Is there an elegant way to check if the at least one regex in the list matches the string? By elegant, I mean something better than simply looping through all of the regexes and checking them against the string and stopping if a match is found. Basically, I had this code: list = ['something','another','thing','hello'] string = 'hi' if string in list: pass # do something else: pass # do something else Now I would like to have some regular expressions in the list, rather than just strings, and I am wondering if there is an elegant solution to check for a match to replace if string in list:. • How do you make an in-place construction of a struct casted to array compile in Visual C++ 2008?

  I'm working with quite a big codebase which compiles fine in linux but vc++ 2008 spits errors. The problem code goes like this: Declaration: typedef float vec_t; typedef vec_t vec2_t[2]; The codebase is littered with in-place construction like this one: (vec2_t){0, divs} Or more complex: (vec2_t){ 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenW(), 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenH()} As far as I know, this code constructs a struct, then converts it to an array and passes the address to the function. I personally never used in-place construction like this so I have no clue how to make this one work. I don't maintain the linux build, only the windows one. And I can't get it to compile. Is there some switch, some macro to make vc++ compile it? Maybe there is a similar nifty way to construct those arrays and pass them to the functions in-place that compiles just fine in vc++?

• vb.net - how do I parse a percentage value from a grid cell?

  I'm trying to parse a formatted percentage value back from a datagridviewcell that has been set with the "P" formatter: double percent = 0.96 cell.value = percent.tostring("p") gives me a displayed value of 96 % which is what I want. Now what I'm looking for is something like what is provided for the other formatting strings - NumberStyles.HexNumber, Currency etc so that I can do this double percent= double.parse( cell.value, NumberStyles.Percent ) which would give me a percent value of .96 I have scoured the .net documentation but can't find any sort of AllowPercent style like the others - is there one? • Working with multiple input and output files in Python

  I need to open multiple files (2 input and 2 output files), do complex manipulations on the lines from input files and then append results at the end of 2 output files. I am currently using the following approach: in_1 = open(input_1) in_2 = open(input_2) out_1 = open(output_1, "w") out_2 = open(output_2, "w") # Read one line from each 'in_' file # Do many operations on the DNA sequences included in the input files # Append one line to each 'out_' file in_1.close() in_2.close() out_1.close() out_2.close() The files are huge (each potentially approaching 1Go, that is why I am reading through these input files one at a time. I am guessing that this is not a very Pythonic way to do things. :) Would using the following form good? with open("file1") as f1: with open("file2") as f2: # etc. If yes, could I do it while avoiding the highly indented code that would result?   Hi there So, say I have a string to parse with a given format that maps to a tree like data structure. The string is kinda similar to a folder path, and the structure is similar to a file structure, except its got some rules so for something@cat1@otherSomething you would get /something/cat1/otherSomething for something@cat2@otherSomething you would get /something/cat2/otherSomething other examples /OtherThing/cat1/otherSomething/Blah /OtherThing/cat4/otherSomething Where something, cat1, otherSomethign, etc are some sort of instances of ICategory There are certain rules that control what subcategories are valid and which subcategories are not acceptable, at the moment I m considering a heavy Object hierachy, but I know this is not a flexible solution, I d prefer the categories to be a bit more general but again, since there are rules about what can go next I m not sure how to do this. An example of a rule can be: OtherThing can only have subcategories cat1 and cat4 ( anything else is invalid) An option would be to use some sort of convention based aproach to instantiate a particular class given a subsection of the string(like cat4) but it seems a bit too complex, I m all ears Thanks

What I learned, the best strategy is to try to find the top and bottom values of the top range and then select the rest, but implementing is a bit tricky. Example table: id | title | group_id | votes I'd like to get the top 3 voted rows from the table, for each group. I'm expecting this result: 91 | hello1 | 1 | 10 28 | hello2 | 1 | 9 73 | hello3 | 1 | 8 84 | hello4 | 2 | 456 58 | hello5 | 2 | 11 56 | hello6 | 2 | 0 17 | hello7 | 3 | 50 78 | hello8 | 3 | 9 99 | hello9 | 3 | 1 I've fond complex queries and examples, but they didn't really helped.

  I have a Python script which needs to calculate the exact size of arbitrary strings displayed in arbitrary fonts in order to generate simple diagrams. I can easily do it with Tkinter. • Typed DefaultListModel to avoid casting

  Is there a way in java to have a ListModel that only accepts a certain type? What I'm looking for is something like DefaultListModel<String> oder TypedListModel<String>, because the DefaultListModel only implements addElement(Object obj) and get(int index) which returns Object of course. That way I always have to cast from Object to e.g. String and there is no guarantee that there are only strings in my model, even though I'd like to enforce that. Is this a flaw or am I using list models the wrong way?

It's going to be big and have dymanic content where different users with different roles can perform modifications to the site. Place comments, rate stores, list items, etc. This sound like a perfect opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn a PHP Framework. I've used PHP bare bones before but nothing too complex. As of now, do you think Kohana is a mature framework to use? I've used Zend in the past for a course in Uni but it sucked horribly, I was new to the MVC model, but Zend had pretty much zero workable tutorials and guides for newbies. That's why I hated it. Where can I go to learn how to use Kohana from a retarded starting point? Thank you very much for your time.

  Python 3 cleans up Python's handling of Unicode strings. I assume as part of this effort, the codecs in Python 3 have become more restrictive, according to the Python 3 documentation compared to the Python 2 documentation. For example, codecs that conceptually convert a bytestream to a different form of bytestream have been removed: base64_codec bz2_codec hex_codec And codecs that conceptually convert Unicode to a different form of Unicode have also been removed (in Python 2 it actually went between Unicode and bytestream, but conceptually it's really Unicode to Unicode I reckon): rot_13 My main question is, what is the "right way" in Python 3 to do what these removed codecs used to do? They're not codecs in the strict sense, but "transformations". But the interface and implementation would be very similar to codecs. I don't care about rot_13, but I'm interested to know what would be the "best way" to implement a transformation of line ending styles (Unix line endings vs Windows line endings) which should really be a Unicode-to-Unicode transformation done before encoding to byte stream, especially when UTF-16 is being used, as discussed this other SO question.

  i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  Whilst asking this question asp.net scheduling timed events user murph posted some insightful information: Point about this is that its very, very simple - you have an process for exchange that is performing a clearly defined task and you have a high frequency task that is not doing anything particularly complex, its a straightforward query (select from table where sent = false and send at < value) - probably into temporary table so that you can run a single query update after you've done the sends - that you can optimise the index for. You're not trying to queue up a huge pile of event triggers, just one that fires once a minute and processes things that are due. Is it possible to SELECT data from table X INTO table Y and have the UPDATES that are performed on table Y pushed into table X? I guess the alternative would be that the data gets updated in table Y then an update command can be run on table X based on the data in table Y. What would be the advantage of selecting into another table? Thank you,

• Connecting Android XML and Code

  I'm new to android and have gotten used to doing all my previous UI in code. I can understand the simple examples, but I'm trying something more complex and have no idea how to do it in code and XML. I'm trying to use the google map api and draw text on the map at a specified spot. I have succeeded in doing so by extending overlay and overriding the draw method using drawtext. This has pretty much accomplished what I'm looking to do, but I want have read that is poor practice. I now want to add a second line below the first and just using \n does not work. I can work it out using another drawtext method, but I figured it would be better to create a custom textview, I just have no idea how to position it using code and encapsulate it inside the overlay. Maybe the way I'm doing it is the best way...

I want to search and find out which of these database strings are inside the string I provide (and get the IDs of them). Is there a way of using a query to search the provided string or must it be taken to application space? Am I right in thinking that this is not a 'full text search'? Would the best method be to insert it into the database to make it a full text search?

• How do I pass a parameter from the select list into a function for joining a linq query?

  I have a query that can be summarised in SQL as follows; Select S.StockCode From StockToCheck As S Inner Join GetPOSStock(S.StockCode) As C On S.StockCode = C.StockCode; I'm trying to do the same in Linq but it seems I cannot pass a parameter to the function I am joining on as it has not been parsed by Linq. I imagine it would look like this (vb); Dim x = From S In StockToCheck Join C In GetPOSStock(S) On S Equals C.ProductCode Where the S var is a list of strings. This gives the error 'S' is not declared and points to the S in the function call / join (GetPOSStock). So it does not seem possible to do this in Linq, can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance Ryan

• ASP.NET application stopping event?

  I have a ASP.NET application which implements a custom in-memory cache. I'm using this as opposed to ASP.NET's caching mechanism as I needed a more complex way to handle what to drop from the cache. Part of this custom cache is a separate thread which occasionally searches for data to drop from the cache whenever it gets too large. What I need to do is signal this cache maintenance thread to stop whenever the ASP.NET application 'exits'. I guess this basically amounts to when the web site is stopped in IIS. Is there a pre-existing event I can utilise to do this? Thanks.
