• How to embed word doc as background picture of an Access report using .EMF or equivalent ?

  My company's standard paper has logo, address and all the details in the right margin with a vertical blue line. I have that as a word template. I want to have the same thing as the background of my Invoices report. I managed to do that 5 years ago by saving to EMF format (vector format, prints out nicely) and putting the file as the background of the report. Now my company is moving, and I need to change the address on my invoices, but I can't find out how I did to convert the word doc to EMF. Any suggestion ? By EMF or another process, but I want to avoid BMP, which is huge and does not print nicely. Thanks !

• Print same text several time to one page

  I have a odt(or pdf, or ps) file. [Really I have odt, but I can easily convert it], it consist of 1 page. No I want to print it to another pdf 4 times to 1 page. There is an option pages per side, so If I copy-paste 4 times my document and set this option to 4 I'll have my expected result. But I want to do it without copy-paste because it's quite annoying to copy-and-paste before each printing. Is it simpler way?

  I know that where I have worked, I have pushed alot for virtualizing our servers. I think that it is much easier to implement and maintain than physical servers. I have been using Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005 R2 since it was released. Right now at my workplace we have 12 VMHosts that hold about 55 VMs. We have 6 other servers that we have been unable to convert to VMs. I want to know how other people in our field view virtualization. I know that I have had developers dislike the notion of VMs claiming major performance hits. What do other Sys Admins think about virtualized servers?

  Hello. I have a physical disk with a small (60GB) partition containing my guest OS. The physical disk also contains a large (240GB) block of unpartitioned space. My vmdk is defined as a physical "individual partition". I want to convert the source physical "individual partition" vmdk into a local (file-based) vmdk. The command - vmware-vdiskmanager -r sourcevmdk targetvmdk -t 2 creates a 300GB vmdk that includes both the desired 60GB "individual partition" and the 240GB of useless unpartitioned space ! How can I create a local vmdk with just the individual partition?

• Upgrading Windows 7 on a new Netbook - Problems

  I know this seems like a repeat of a question but i didn't get a clear answer from reading the other questions so im going to ask mine and hope i hear back good news. I bought an Acer Aspire one netbook with windows 7 starter. I have a DVD of Windows 7 Professional(x86) from MSNDAA through my college but when i tried to install it, i was given an error saying that i could only upgrade through the "Windows Anytime Upgrade" Though, it only gives me the options of paying for an upgrade, which im not willing to do, or putting in an upgrade key. I have a legitimate product key for windows 7 but it does not work for upgrading and the DVD does not allow for it. Am i doing something wrong? is there another option? can i convert my product key to an upgrade key ? Im up for any option, windows 7 starter is pretty limited in its features...

• not able to upload files into mediawiki -- weird one

  Completely frustrating me. • Alien: .rpm -> .deb | Compability / Built per system?

  At the moment I'm playing a bit with alien (for OpenVZ packages on Debian) and was wondering myself about one question for which I was not able to find an answer anywhere. Therefor I thought it might be smart to ask here :) The question is... If I convert a .rpm to .deb on a system, how compatible is this .deb package? What do I mean? Will the .deb be working on other systems as well or is it per-system, e.g. that on every system the .deb package will be little different? That i386 and x86_64 are different is clear, so this doesn't need to be answered :) Examples that would be nice to know are for example: .deb built on Debian 6 64-bit - Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit (compatible?) .deb built on Debian 6 64-bit - Debian 5 64-bit (compatible?) etc. Thanks anyone reading this / helping me! I am going over this blog post. at Step 5, i am supposed to run Powershell commands so i can connect the ADFS to Office 365. Set-MsolAdfscontext -Computer <AD FS server FQDN> Convert-MsolDomainToFederated -DomainName <domain name> i am unable to determine the FQDN for the ADFS server. i searched around a lot on the web, but was not able to locate the solution. i am just getting started with all configuration of ADFS and Office 365, but was not able to find out a solution. any answers?

• How to suppress the unsolicited footer when converting HTML -> PDF with Acrobat?

  I often convert & combine (via contextmenu) HTML pages to PDF using Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader). I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended, version 9.1.2. The converted PDFs always have the full path of the original file on the bottom of the PDF-page, also they have an additional header line with the document. I need to suppress that. I do not want the unsolicited header and footer in the resulting PDF files as they are a pain to reomve manually, with a certain page count per document it becomes impossible. Is it possible to suppres that and if, how?

• Need recommendations for a hardy scanner that has a robust feeder tray

  In the early days of our company all our information came in on paper and all of what we sold was on paper. Because of this we literally rent our an old bank vault to house the millions of sheets of paper that, some say, still contain relevant information. That being said, I'm looking into purchasing some hardware capable of scanning all these documents and converting them to pdf. Being new at this level of digitization I would like to ask for recommendations for accomplishing this task. Most of this material exists as separate bound studies/articles/etc. Someone would have to remove the bindings and be able to load many pages at a time and have the scanner feed them all through and convert them to a single pdf (single pdf per study/article/etc). If you have any recommendations I would very much appreciate hearing about them, thanks.

• VMWare Workstation 8, Sharing a VM without copying them to "Shared VMs location"

  I have a host computer (Win7-64) with three different harddrives. It runs several VMs which are distributed among those harddrives for a better performance. Now with VMWare Workstation 8 it is possible to "share" the VMs. I'd like to use this feature, but I have to convert the VMs to "Shared VMs". When I try this WMWare forces me to copy the VMs to one predefined folder, thus making my effort of distributing the VMs among the harddrives meaningless. Is there any possibility to keep the VMs where they are and share them anyway?

• Recover a Parallel Desktop 3 virtual machine in VirtualBox

  I have an old HDD image file that was used with Parallels Desktop 3. Ideally I'd like to use it in VirtualBox (conversion). In all the tutorials I found (like this one or that one) the VM must be started: there's the problem. I don't have the machine where Parallel 3 was installed anymore. I tried installing the trial version of the last version of Parallels (9) but it seem it doesn't offer the possibility to import an old VM. So here's the question: Given I can't boot the VM with Parallels Desktop, is there a way to convert the image file to another format that is bootable in VirtualBox? If it changes anything, the host is MacOS X 10.9, the guest is Windows XP.

• Free OCR for Arabic text

  A friend has requested I convert an Arabic text .pdf into Word. Google Docs does not seem an option but new OCR looked promising because Arabic is featured in the 'Recognition language' dropdown. I have failed to get this to work beyond "Error! Text can not be recognized." even with only a few sample pages (111KB). I'd much appreciate any advice about what I am doing wrong at that site (or even how to access any help available there!) or pointing to other (free!) options that work with Arabic text (preferably that do not require registration and or large downloads). Anyone willing to help please? Note this .pdf does not have a text layer.

  Hello everyone. I'm trying to convert Flac audio file to AAC file using command line. So I wrote this ffmpeg -i input.flac temp.wav faac -q 120 -o output.m4a temp.wav It's working fine. Now I want to do the same using fifo, so I'm writing this mkfifo temp.wav ffmpeg -i input.flac temp.wav & faac -q 120 -o output.m4a temp.wav And it's freezing. • A definition for a CPU second?

  Hey, I'm totally behind this topic. Yesterday I was doing profiling for some script I'm working on, and the unit for time spent was a 'CPU second'. Can anyone remind me with the definition of it? For example for some profiling I got: 200.750 CPU seconds. What does that supposed to mean? At other case and for time consuming process I got: -347.977 CPU seconds, a negative number! • How to stop Excel Treating US dates as UK dates?

  I'm in the UK, I've got a problem where I've got a list of dates supplied in US format. Excel seems to treat the ones that are valid in both formats as UK dates, (e.g. 03/01/2012 becomes 3rd of January rather that 1st March), and treat the ones that aren't valid UK dates (e.g. 03/13/2012) as basic text. I assume this choice is something to do with my regional settings. What I want is the system to recognise that this column of text is supplied in US date format, and convert it into the underlying date representation for calculations. How do I do this?

  I am trying to create a scheduled task to convert all my .vsd files to pdf so all of our devices can read them (linux, mac, smartphones, etc..) and I would prefer not paying for something that can be done with Visio + PDFcreator. The approach of using openoffice doesn't work with .vsd files since it's not a supported format ( Method/tools for batch-converting Microsoft Word files into PDF?) What I've currently is this: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\VISIO.EXE' /pt "Z:\Archive\Files.vsd",-PPDFCREATORPRINTER /nologo That is able to open automatically the document I want and to prepare it to be printed, the only missing part is that it requires me to confirm on the printing dialog. • WordPress and EverNote integration, any existing solutions?

  Actually the tag and category system in WordPress and EverNote are very similar, almost exactly the same. We can create a notebook/notebook group in EverNote, its counterpart in Wordpress is Category/Sub Category We can mutiple tag any note in EverNote, similarly we can tag any post in Wordpress as well! Since the two are so similar to each other in categorizing the article, I am wondering whether there is a existing solution to automatically convert between the two. Like one click to post my EverNote note to WordPress under the same category and same tag. Or pull down my WordPress article to my EverNote account under the same category and same tag. Preferably it can also handle image\video uploading issues as well. :) I saw a similar questions asked years ago: Posting from evernote to wordpress So I was wondering is there any new update for this idea right now?

• Automatic subdomain creation in htaccess on Apache

  I have a domain in my HOSTS file; www.mytestbusiness.com However, I want to convert some folders into subdomains automatically, e.g. www.mytestbusiness.com/birmingham www.mytestbusiness.com/london which should be: www.birmingham.mytestbusiness.com www.london.mytestbusiness.com Only for some folders do I want to keep it as a domain/folder link, e.g. www.mytestbusiness.com/styles/ I don't want the CSS folder becoming a subdomain, or certain folders like cgi-bin, dwoo etc. (dwoo contains the site templates!) I am running Apache 2.2 on Windows 7 Home Edition, and the site has no issues, it's just creating subdomains in .htaccess without having to manually declare them which is the problem. What's the best way to do this, other than manually declaring them in httpd-vhosts.conf as I used to do? Thanks

When I double-click on it though, it opens up the VBA editor. Do I have to add the items programatically as per the following question How do I add a combobox in Word? or is it possible to do this using the UI? The other question/answer refers to creating a form. Is there a step I've missed between creating a .dot to then create a form somehow before adding form elements to it? • set chars to uppercase between parenthesis

  let's assume in vim I have following lines: all what (strong) people have to do is pushing (heavy) weights over (and over) again in order to gain muscles and I need to convert words inside parenthesis to uppercase, what is the most convenient way to do so? How do I tell vim it needs to select everything to the first (!) closing parenthesis? So far I came up with :%s/\s(.*)\s/\U&/g unfortunately this will uppercase everything between 'strong' and 'heavy' which is not what I want. Any chance to tell vim it should select the chars to the next closing bracket only? (sorry for the silly example, couldn't think of something more sophisticated... or at least vim related... huh)

• Converting ASUS Zenbook from Win8 to Win7.. do i need raid drivers?

  I've got an ASUS ZEnBook Prime, ASUS Zenbook UX301LA-XH72T 13.3" Touch Ultrabook and it runs 500GB SDD on RAID 0 configuration. This notebook is running Windows 8, and i desperately need to convert to Windows 7, but maintain RAID 0 configuration. My question is, will i have problems maintaining RAID 0 once converted? I would assume that the RAID 0 configuration is BIOS based and WINDOWS wont even know it, and will only see 1 drive regardless... right? Or will i need to do some weird Windows stuff to maintain RAID 0 config? = which doesn't make sense to me why it would.

  i was updating my ipod classic tonight when for some stupid reason i checked the box which says "convert higher bit rate to 128 kbps aac". straight away it changed my audio amount from 67gb to 79gb and then started to sync, i stopped it right away as i thought the whole reason was to reduce space not add anymore to it. everytime i try to sync up now it keeps going back to try this same task and i dont know how to stop it apart from the obvious and cancelling the sync but then i cant update my ipod then? anybody got any ideas for me please? thanks in advance.

• How can I import a CSV file into an SQLite table that doesn't allow null values?

  I've been using the SQLite Manager extension for Firefox to edit my Chrome web data file in order to restore my keyword searches, and I think I have everything in place except that when I import a CSV file into a table, (a) it won't import into the actual table because the table doesn't allow null values (b) if I import it into a new table that does allow null values, then all the empty strings end up as null and I have to manually edit the row, type and delete a character, and then it's set to empty string and it's fine So: is there either a way to import the CSV so that empty cells are automatically turned into empty strings instead of null, OR is there a way once a table is imported that has null values to convert it into one that doesn't allow null values, where each formerly null value is the empty string?
