• How to make use of movie events imported by imovie 09 from a DVR

  I have imported about 100 clips of video from my DVR using imovie 09 and they are all saved under movie events folder, this is ok. The problem is all the movie events files are not in standard formats, they are in some 'Apple Intermediate Format' only Quicktime and iMovie recoginize and play. My problem is I simply want to give my 100 clips of video to someone using PC and this intermediate format produced by imovie is not playable or convertable by anything I have found. Now the only option for me seems to be creating a project in iMovie and drag all the clips into the project and then export these 100 clips into a single standard file, but iMovie doesn't even let me conveninent do that, I can only click at some clip, select all, drag into the project, and repeat for 100 more times, Is there a alternative way I can do so? (or use Quicktime player to convert video formats one by one). Thanks

  I would like to backup an ASF video stream with the time stamp (I mean the original recording date/time) on the output stream ? Usage I convert / store my video using the mkv format (Matroska) with libx264 (video) and aac (audio) codecs. Assume the IP camera webcam user account is account, the password password $ ffmpeg -i http://admin:alpha1237@webcam/videostream.asf -c:v libx264 -s 768X432 -crf 13 -b:v 2500K -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a libfdk_aac output.mkv This works fine on a tenvis JPT3815W camera How to I need to get the video timestamp available for display as a subtitle or other meta data field managed by standard video players, and ideally to be able to hide it or not during video reading. I have created a new web application in IIS 7.5 pointing to the directory that the ASP.NET application exists in. • Converting date format in formulas in Excel

  I have a column of dates in the following format ddd mmm dd hh m:s "EST" yyyy. In another cell in another sheet, I wish to have the dates in the format dd/m/y. How can I do this? I already tried the DATEVALUE function. Seeing as the positions are fixed, I started using the RIGHT and MID functions to extract components to put into the DATE function. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way of converting the three letter string to a month without writing a huge if block. UPDATE: I managed to convert the string using MONTH(1&THREE_LETTER_DATE). I am still curious if there is a better solution though

• Can I "reprogram" an American Express USB drive?

  I recently received a USB drive that looks like a credit card as a promotion. The drive portion flips out to plug it in. When you plug it in, it opens the run dialog, and opens a URL to an American Express web page. I was able to find it in the Device Manager: But I don't know what else to do? Is there a way I can convert this into a plain old USB drive? Or better yet, can I modify the command that it runs when inserted into a computer?

  I use Finale with the Garritan sounds to convert my music into WAV files; after that I manually load each one into Audacity and select all use the "normalize" effect (with default settings) manually select the silence at the beginning of the file and delete it manually select the silence at the end of the file and delete it finally export the whole thing as an MP3 (with specific tag data) This gets tedious, especially as I work on a ten-movement piece with six part-prominent rehearsal "tapes" to accompany the full-score rendition. And there are too many variations in what's going on for me to trust AutoHotKey for this one. Is there a way to script Audacity, or is there another toolchain that would do what I want? I'm running on a WindowsXP laptop with cygwin installed. Thanks!

• Joining H264 *without* re-encoding

  Hi, I have two halves of a single show in two .MP4 files, encoded in H264. I would like to join them without re-encoding. Is this possible? I managed to create a joined video as a Quicktime file (.mov) using Quicktime Pro, but then Quicktime Pro will not convert it back to .MP4 without re-encoding. This may be because looking inside the .mov file, the two H264 videos are in there still separated as individual "objects". I am also struggling with MPEG StreamClip without reaching a real solution. But I may have missed something. Note that I have the same issue with MPEG2 files. I can export them to a .MPEG container or a .TS file for example, but I don't know how to join them without re-encoding. Any suggestion welcome, preferably using Mac software.

I have used FWDoc in the past to extract the rules and convert them to other formats but there was some errors with exclusions. I then analyze them manually to produce an improved version of the rules (usually in OOo Calc) with comments. I know there are several visualization techniques but they all go down to analyzing the traffic and I want static analysis. So I was wondering, what process do you follow to analyze firewall rules? • Converting videos to AVI with AVIDemux for compatibility

  I am trying to convert a couple of short videos to AVI (XviD) using AVIDemux. I find that while the resulting videos play fine in VLC, they do not play in an XviD DVD player (nor presumably Xbox 360, PS3, etc.). In fact, they do not even show in Windows Explorer (that is, Explorer cannot read their metadata or display thumbnails). I tried using all three of the AVI Muxer Output Format options, but none worked. Does anyone know what settings to use to produce compatible AVIs with AVIDemux? (I found an old thread where someone complained about AVIs not working on Xbox, but that was a few years ago from an older version.)

• Command line import of database using latin1 encoding

  I'm using a particular cloud hosting solution (one which i won't name) and they don't provide ssh access so i'm at a whim on how the database is dumped. I downloaded the dump which is packed into a tar.gz file. I discover that this file utilizes latin1 encoding. Which i don't get to specify the encoding for the host i'm using because i don't have SSH access or DB access. I try to import it via command line for my local development environment (mysql -uroot foodb < file.db) like i usually do with other databases but am having problems. Is it possible to import a database via command line by specifying which encoding (preferably latin1) before importing it? Or do i have to convert it to UTF8?

• Contending with Smartart cropping bug in Word 2007

  I recently discovered and started using the Smartart tool in Microsoft Word 2007. It's a great tool but there seems to be a bug. All of the smartart items I have created in my document are cropped along the bottom edge, some more so than others. I, of course, have not intentionally cropped these items. And according to Microsoft's online help, the only way to crop Smartart is to convert it to clip art, then use Word's cropping tools on the clip art, which is what makes me believe this is a bug. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and is there a way to fix it?

  Hi all! I was writing a CLI-Tool for Mac OS X (10.5+) that has to deal with command-line arguments which are very likely to contain non-ASCII characters. For further processing, I convert these arguments using +[NSString stringWithCString:encoding:]. My problem is, that I couldn't find good information on how to determine the character-encoding used by the shell in which said cli-tool is running in. What I came up with as a solution is the following: NSDictionary *environment = [[NSProcessInfo processInfo] environment]; NSString *ianaName = [[environment objectForKey:@"LANG"] pathExtension]; NSStringEncoding encoding = CFStringConvertEncodingToNSStringEncoding( CFStringConvertIANACharSetNameToEncoding( (CFStringRef)ianaName ) ); NSString *someArgument = [NSString stringWithCString:argv[someIndex] encoding:encoding]; I find that a little crude, however -- which makes me think that I missed out something obvious...but what?   mdadm does not seem to support growing an array from level 1 to level 10. I have two disks in RAID 1. I want to add two new disks and convert the array to a four disk RAID 10 array. My current strategy: Make good backup. Create a degraded 4 disk RAID 10 array with two missing disks. rsync the RAID 1 array with the RAID 10 array. fail and remove one disk from the RAID 1 array. Add the available disk to the RAID 10 array and wait for resynch to complete. Destroy the RAID 1 array and add the last disk to the RAID 10 array. The problem is the lack of redundancy at step 5. Is there a better way?

Now I want to know that how I can extract that video? I know that one way is to convert my partition to NTFS but I don't want to follow that way. I've also tried 7-zip but that again gives error after 4GB. One other way is to split that file but I don't know how I can split a video file that is zipped. So any idea please? • PXE Boot PCLinuxOS ISO

  I'm in the process of trying to convert some computers at my local school to be diskless browser stations. We've identified PCLinuxOS as the OS we'd like to use due to it's easy interface for creating custom ISO images (we need WINE and some custom apps installed also, as well as FireFox). I've been having problems figuring out how to get an ISO to boot via PXE. In our network, I only have access to TFTP and HTTP, so I cannot use NFS. The machines all have enough memory (4 gigs) that they could use a ram drive to hold the ISO image, if that helps. Currently I've been looking at GPXE with GRUB/MEMDISK, but I don't know if that's the right solution, or even where a good resource is for setting it up. Searching the web has proved fruitless, as most of the information is either NFS-specific or out of date. The other students and I would appreciate any help! :)

  Hello In a traditional Windows Server 2003 environment with AD, we have shared a folder for our policy documents (MS Word). These documents get edited/updated now and then by the administrator(principal of college). Users only have read-only access to the folder, but they can still save-as and then change the content. Sharepoint is a possible solution but not easy to implement. We also thought of using a CMS on Linux and installing Joomla to let users only view the docs with a document management system... but is it possible to automatically retrieve the policy folder on the network and convert or put it in a format that users can only view and not copy? We also thought of saving the docs to secure pdf format but the principal wants an automated system. Basically she just wants to work in Word and the policies must be available to staff members on the network. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

These files are accessed by Windows computers with a Samba server, accessed by Macs with a netatalk server (afpd) and also trough ssh an sftp for Windows, Macs and Linux system. It seems like some of these systems care about the use of characters in filenames and some don't.. There is a tool called 'convmv' to convert filenames from one to another, but which one should I use? Should I setup the Samba server for a defined file encoding? Same for netatalk?

• Computer to Tv cable question

  Hi all. Heres my query : I have a PC with all the usual outputs and a couple of TVs in the house with inputs to connect to a computer. Now, what i would like to do is get rid of cable TV and using the input into the spliters in the basement,( ie. where the input cable from outside actually feeds the system ) have the computer become the "Cable supplier" ( so to speak ) and have the output ( via some sort of box ) from the computer, convert what is on my monitor into an RF signal that is then fed into the cables in my house and ultimately to each TV / room . I don't know if there is such an item but would welcome any thoughts you might have on such a set up. I am not into HD or the like, so the picture quality needs only to be watchable, not HD. I don't want to have to set up seperate cables to feed the audio on each TV. Thanks in advance!

• Personal wiki on usb / the cloud?

  I'm looking for a personal wiki that can be installed on an usb stick and (more importantly) somewhere on the cloud (dropbox). I've looked at the Wiki Matrix, but I really don't care that much about any of the options, so I end up with a choice between ~50 wikis at the end. Tried out TiddlyWiki but there are some things that really annoy me like the fact that all pages get opened on the same page. It really looks like it'd turn into a giant mess pretty quickly. I'd like to have something that's pretty close in terms of appearance and usability to wikipedia. Hierarchical categories for organization would be really nice. And accessible storage (in case I ever want to convert it to something else).

  I just bought a brand new LG 42LW4500 TV with enabled 3D think its passive any how i have an option to convert 2D 3D i also got a full set of normal 3D Glases. Now today i downloaded a 3D movie (14GB) Full HD in a mkv format i hooked up my PC to my TV and opened the mkv in VLC player and what i got was 2 pictures in one screen sowing same thing. Now i am lost from here i enabled 3D but it didnt really feel like 3D. Can anyone shed some ligth on how can you play 3D movies do i need to use 2D 3D conversion on tv or?

I'm ok with that , but my issues is , say I want to change the server passwd , do I have to go through the whole process every time I change the config ? Is there a way of changing the slapd config after its been built using the RHEL6 method ? below is the advice I've found on the net from http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/rhel6/rhel_6_migration_guide/rhel_6_migration_ch07s03.html This example assumes that the file to convert from the old slapd configuration is located at /etc/openldap/slapd.conf and the new directory for OpenLDAP configuration is located at /etc/openldap/slapd.d/.   i have a word document. it have 2 parts one english and one arabic. the problem is that all the numbers are english numbers [0123456789] but i want the arabic part's numbers to be arabic numbers [??????????] how can i do that in word 2007 or 2010? thanks Edit: since i didnt receive any response to the question i created a software that converts english numbers to arabic and then i use it to convert the numbers in the document. but still wondering if there is a more easy way to do it?
