  Oracle Master Data Management had a great showing at OOW 2012 ! Special thanks to our customers and partners for presenting with us, sharing their use cases and successes as well as co-sponsoring events.  Almost every session at the show featured a customer and the tremendous success or transformation Oracle MDM resulted in at their organization.  At the DemoGrounds, Oracle MDM saw tremendous interest with many individuals enquiring to see demos, and have their technical questions answered.  The demos provided a perfect opportunity to showcase technical enhancements as well as what features are on the horizon.The MDM customer appreciation dinner event was a smashing success as cusotmers and partners enjoyed a spectacular water view, fine dining and cocktails and one of San Francisco's finest restaurants - The Water Bar.  In a short while the planning for next year's OpenWorld will be under full swing and we can't wait to get started.  See you at OOW 2013!!

  I want to start looking for jobs in great companies and I have four years of enterprise corporations development, three years with C#.NET and alomst one year with Ruby On Rails, JS, etc... But when I look up interview questions from Google, Amazon, Fog Creek, DropBox, etc... they are really targeted at students that are coming fresh out of college and still remember what was Dynamic Programming and Dijkstra algorithms ... but I don't! :( It has been a while for me ... If a I need a sort algorithm I would either Google it or there already is a library and method that does it for me. So what should I do? Do they realize that this guy is not coming from college and will ask more general questions about software architecture or nop! I should go back find my old Data structures book from the storage and read them? In that case wht books and language do you recommend to hone my skills?

• Design Pattern for Data Validation

  What would be the best design pattern for this problem: I have an Object A. Object A can either be registered or deleted from the database depending on the user request. Data validation is performed before registration or deletion of the object. There are a set of rules to be checked before the object can be registered and another set of rules for deletion. Some of these rules are common for both operations. So far, I think the Chain of Responsibility design pattern fits the most but I'm having trouble implementing it.

• How does Google store search trends in backend?

  Google trends shows what query has been searched how many times and some other properties of the said query. But how is this data stored in a database? Storing a new row for every search does not seem right. They also tell the query on a time graph, so they must have some way to look for individual searches made by users, but the number of queries they get every day, it does not feel right that they would store every search in a database row along with a time-stamp. This does not apply to just Google trends or Google in general but any other big site that gets awful number of queries and then has tools to see them in depth. I am not an expert on this but I am interested to know some high level structure of how things work behind the scenes.

• Using "MTNL 3G Jadoo" data card on Ubuntu

  I am trying to use "MTNL 3G Jadoo" data card (Teracom LW272) with Ubuntu 12.04. On connecting, it gets mounted as a drive containing the client installation .deb file. I opened the .deb file in Ubuntu Software Center and installed it. I searched for "MTNL" in Ubuntu search and found "MTNL 3G Modem" application. But it won't run. I found it is installed in /opt/MTNL-3GModem. I tried running it from the terminal as: sudo /opt/MTNL-3GModem/ModemClient, but no luck. Any idea how to get it working?

• Settlers-like terrain representation

  Remember this beauty? I'm playing it now on my old Amiga 1200. My question is: How do you think they represented the terrain, data structure wise? Obviously it's some kind of points, with a height. Or hexagons. And how did they decide which dots were buildable? EDIT: I could rephrase the question to say "how do I achieve this kind of terrain", but I would still only be interested in how to do it on a machine with 1 MB of RAM and a 7 Mhz processor, because this is the machine i currently developing games for. If that seems like a vague or meaningless question to you, that's alright, but I'm still curious if someone has any knowledge about this.

  I am planning to upgrade from 8.10 to 10.04. But I am wondering if there will be data loss during the upgrade? For example: Will the application that I have installed on 8.10 still be there after upgrade? Will the settings of the applications such as the bookmarks for Firefox and for Google Chrome be preserved? Will all the personal files under my home directory be preserved? Any other things I need to know for the upgrade? Thanks and regards!

• Lost my data after installing Ubuntu 12.10

  I've wanted to switch from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 and downloaded proper ISO. During install I was asked if I wanted to reinstall Ubuntu. I used this option thinking that it will only delete all system files and install new ones. It turned out to be a mistake - it wipe my HDD from all partitions and created new one. I've lost all my data including personal and important photos from over 6 years. Is there a way I can recover entire partition (NTFS)? Moreover, I'm really angry with you Canonical that you could allowed that misleading desctiption to be included in a full release!

• Wildcard mapping in IIS 7.0 not working

  I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file.   Scala has two instruments for expressing object composition: original self-type concept and well known trivial composition. I'm curios what situations I should use which in. There are obvious differences in their applicability. Self-type requires you to use traits. Object composition allows you to change extensions on run-time with var declaration. Leaving technical details behind I can figure two indicators to help with classification of use cases. If some object used as combinator for a complex structure such as tree or just have several similar typed parts (1 car to 4 wheels relation) than it should use composition. There is extreme opposite use case. Lets assume one trait become too big to clearly observe it and it got split. It is quite natural that you should use self-types for this case. That rules are not absolute. You may do extra work to convert code between this techniques. e.g. you may replace 4 wheels composition with self-typing over Product4. You may use Cake[T <: MyType] {part : MyType} instead of Cake { this : MyType => } for cake pattern dependencies. But both cases seem counterintuitive and give you extra work. There are plenty of boundary use cases although. One-to-one relations is very hard to decide with. Is there any simple rule to decide what kind of technique is preferable? self-type makes you classes abstract, composition makes your code verbose. self-type gives your problems with blending namespaces and also gives you extra typing for free (you got not just a cocktail of two elements but gasoline-motor oil cocktail known as a petrol bomb).   Hi, I have situation in with I stucked and don't know way out. The problem is in my bigger model, but I have made small example which shows the same problem. I have 4 tables. I called them SuperParent, NamedParent, TypedParent and ParentType. NamedParent and TypedParent derives from superParent. TypedParent has one to many association with ParentType. I describe mapping for entities using queryView. The problem is then I want to get TypedParents and Include ParentType I get the following exception: An error occurred while preparing the command definition. See the inner exception for details. --- System.ArgumentException: The ResultType of the specified expression is not compatible with the required type. But then couldn't insert related entities at once, becouse entity framework didn't provided entity key of inserted entities for related entities. Thanks for any idea

• More Efficient Data Structure for Large Layered Tile Map

  It seems like the popular method is to break the map up into regions and load them as needed, my problem is that in my game there are many AI entities other than the player out performing actions in virtually all the regions of the map. Let's just say I have a 5000x5000 map, when I use a 2D array of byte's to render it my game uses around 17 MB of memory, as soon as I change that data structure to a my own defined MapCell class (which only contains a single field: byte terrain) my game's memory consumption rockets up to 400+ MB. I plan on adding layering, so an array of byte's won't cut it and I figure I'd need to add a List of some sort to the MapCell class to provide objects in the layers. I'm only rendering tiles that are on screen, but I need the rest of the map to be represented in memory since it is constantly used in Update. So my question is, how can I reduce the memory consumption of my map while still maintaining the above requirements? Thank you for your time!
