  Is it possible to backup the System State of a 2008 server without using wbamdin? The setup in question does support the requirements that wbadmin forces (all volumes are marked as critical). Third party tools are an option but I would like to keep away from the big money sinks (BE etc)

• How do I boot to the Recovery Partition on an eMachines D620 notebook?

  I installed the Windows 7 RC on my wife's laptop and now need to reinstall Vista for her. I was very careful to leave the recovery partition intact so that I could do this, but I don't see a way to boot to it. In the Disk Management console I can see the "9.77GB Healthy (Recovery Partition)" partition but I can't do anything with it - the context menu only contains the Help option. Any ideas?

  I will be running a dynamic web site and if the server ever is to stop responding, I'd like to failover to a static website that displays a "We are down for maintenance" page. I have been reading and I found that switching the DNS dynamically may be an option, but how quick will that change take place? And will everyone see the change immediately? Are there any better ways to failover to another server?

• Server restarted while rebuilding array, what to do?

  It's a HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 7, that has four hard drives, one is dead, I suppose that another one is dead too, but is there any way to force the array to rebuild again? The server has restarted while it was rebuilding an array. My windows server(2008) that is on it won't boot, it goes directly to system recovery screen. I have an image backup, would restoring it be my only option?If I restore, it will get back to regular automatically or will I have to configure something?

The Linux boot loader asks me which system to boot, but if I reboot and forget to hit a button, it goes to Linux by default. I would like to boot to XP by default, but somehow retain the option of choosing.

(rar, 7zip, winzip etc) Is there some way to extend this feature (by means of plug-ins etc) to search within Pdf & office files (doc, ppt), Or any other similar unzip tool which has this feature? (Extracting the entire archive & searching using Windows search is always one option)

  have installed VS 2003 in my XP VM, which was shared from a remote drive, after installing, when I tried to open new windows application, the IDE freezes, I have tried it many times, repairing, uninstalling .net 1.1 and VS 2003 and again install, mapping the share drive to my local, etc., After all these trials I was left with no option I know... • Convert word to "JPEG-like" pdf file

  I've got a word document I'm trying to save to an uneditable, unselectable PDF file. Essentially, I'd like it to look like a JPEG, but in PDF format. I'm trying to avoid "printing to tiff, THEN printing to PDF." I'd prefer to go directly from Word to PDF. Additionally, I don't want to add a Password or anything. Does an option exist for this?   So Sublime Text 2 seems to getting a lot of love lately. I am using the Sublime Code intel plugin, https://github.com/Kronuz/SublimeCodeIntel for auto completion. The problem is, it does not recognize .mi files as MASON files. I looked into the lexer and it does have the keywords in place. How do I force it to be parsed as MASON? Running "Set Syntax: " on ctrl+shift+p, does not show a MASON option.

  I have created a couple of line charts in Excel 2011 for Mac. The actual data line looks good and is antialiased in a nice way but when I then add a trendline it is jagged and ugly: I have tried "all" options available under Format Trendline, to no avail. There is an option "Soft Edges" but it doesn't seem to work as expected: when I increase the value there the trend line gets more and more narrow until it disappears.

Whilst it is indexing a large amount of data, I'm wondering if there's any operation that will reduce the size of the index, by say dropping deleted-but-still-allocated data in a similar manner to a VACUUM FULL in PostgreSQL, or are the solr indexes kept fairly tidy, and my only option is to just allocate a pile more diskspace?

  One of the things that I am investigating is using the dateext option for logrotate. However if I understood things correctly apache will keep writing to the files access.log and error.log. I was wondering if there was a way to have apache log to a file access.log.YYYYMMDD and error.log.YYYYMMDD instead? Where YYYYMMDD would be the timestamp when the file was created.

• Windows 8 Fails to resume from sleep

  I have this weird issue. When I put the computer to sleep by pressing the power button, or using the sleep option in Charms, I can wake it up normally. However, if I close the lid, and later reopen it, all the fans come on, but nothing appears on the screen. I didn't have this issue using Windows 7. • Convert video to apng/png?

  I tried to do this with ffmpeg but failed (i also failled making animated gifs). Is there a simple to use free program (command line is ok) to convert videos to animated pngs? As long as it doesnt dump the video frame by frame into png files and create a monster size png then i should like it.(I didnt see an option to make ffmpeg not dump every frame) From the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APNG

• Bash or Zsh - which one and why?

  So, the question pretty much says it all. I'm on Snow Leopard, and I do a lot of web development, particularly in Rails 3 which makes heavy use of the console. I've seen some notable bloggers etc. mention Zsh as their preference over Bash, but I don't know what difference it would make. Could anyone give me a good comparison of what difference there is and what might make one prefer one option or the other? Thanks!

  I have an USB printer, that was discovered and installed properly. At some point, I suppressed it in the printer view of the config panel. If I try to add a new local printer, it says : Only use this option if you don't have an USP printer ( Windows automatically installs USB printer). How can I make windows automatically reinstall the USB printer I accidentally suppressed ? Edit : It is a dell all-in-one 920 printer, and I just tried to download and reinstall dell software.
