  I am getting a "Package Operations Failed" message at the 95% mark of each download. Details show "Reading database" for each 5 percentage segment until Reading database ... 95%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error aborting: failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' I have tried to download a number of piece of software (most recently PDF Editor) and am getting the same message at the same point in the download. Is there something wrong with my Ubuntu version, a virus or is it the software being downloaded? Using 10.04 LTS. P.S. Same problem when trying to download updates.

• Ubuntu 11.04 is not opening

  I am using Ubuntu 11.04 with Windows 7. Ubuntu was working nice but now when I choose Ubuntu 11.04 from boot loader, it is not opening. Just Purple screen is coming but then nothing change. I can't see login menu, it doesn't pass to the login menu. What should I do? Has anyone this problem? Thanks for your answer. I did the steps you wrote Frantique. But now I have a black screen and then nothing. When I choosed ubuntu 11.04 from bootloader, first purple screen is opening then after 1 second it is going to a black screen. And I have nothing again. I can't write anything. Just I have a black screen. It is not openining. Before those problems they work together nice. There aren't any errors. Lets I tell you what did I change: I installed docky, and theme of MACOSX. They were working nicely. And I tried to install a nice calendar. To do this installation I changed a litle bit the file sources.list. That calendar program was working succcesfully too, after installation. The theme MACOSX was working succesfully there weren't any problem. After some days maybe meeks I had that problem which I asked in the above. Now when I tried to update I have a lots of errors. Like: Failed to urls... can't access archive something... .... Failed to urls... can't access archive something... .... ..... Failed to urls... can't access archive something... I hope you will solve the problem. I want my MacOSXUbuntu back :)

• How to copy or sync music on iphone 3gs on ubuntu 14.04?

  I’m using Ubuntu 14.04 and want to copy music to/on my iPhone 3gs. I already installed the actual mobile device, but neither Rhythmbox nor gmusicbrowser show my phone. Only on Gigolo I can see it, and transfer data, but the music I copy is not working on my phone. • laptop will not boot after attempting upgrade to 13.10

  I wanted to update my OS to the new 14.04 LTS. I was running 12.04 LTS before and followed the advice that upgrades should be done in steps. I first upgraded to 12.10, which seemed to work fine, and later to 13.10. This was all done through the Software Manager. After the last upgrade, I am no longer able to boot up my computer. The GNU GRUB menu opens up, but after selecting Ubuntu, it just stalls with a blank purple screen. If I select one of the other kernels, it also stalls after "Loading initial ramdisk...". I can't get into the Recovery Menu, either. I'm still rather new to Linux and may have possibly made the situation worse. Unfortunately, nothing has worked yet. I tried reinstalling from a flash drive and on my first attempt, the wizard recognised a previous installation. Unfortunately, the wizard also didn't like how my partitions were set up (I didn't change anything) and gave an error before closing. Unfortunately, I didn't write the error down, but it was about the boot partition. On the next attempt and ever since, the installation wizard has stated that "This computer currently has no detected operating systems." This is strange, because I could see the disk and even access my files when booting up from the USB. At this point, I decided to back up my important files using dropbox. Before losing all my files, I wanted to try the Boot-Repair tool, which also produced no results, and the files are no longer visible when booting from USB. The link to the Boot-Repair log is at http://paste.ubuntu.com/7457249/. If I then proceed through to the "Something else" installation option, I can see that the partitions still exist. This is what they look like: /dev/sda free space (size indicated 1MB) /dev/sda1 efi (33MB of 98 MB used) /dev/sda2 efi (352634MB of 746330MB used) /dev/sda3 swap (3725MB, none used) free space (0MB) Is there any way I might be able to get my computer to work and preserve my files as well?

• Ubuntu 12.04 does not start

  Im using Lenovo G580. I installed Win7 first, two months ago. Now, i want to install Ubuntu 12.04. I used usb for installation. It went very well, but when i was reboot laptop after installation, it started Win7 not Ubuntu or bootloader for choice. LiveUbuntu is working very well. I tried install ubuntu a couple of times from other .iso. I tried recover Grub. When i change "boot" flag in gparted to partition with Ubuntu, BIOS show me error "missing operating system".("boot" flag is optionally on Windows partition c:/). Can it be hardware mistake? Or i did some mistakes?

  As the title goes , I have class named GetException.java,inside it ,I read a xml file in a static code block like(Because this document is shared): static{ ... document = db.parse(new File(System.getProperty("user.dir")+"/src/exception/ExceptionCode.xml")); ... } To test if the file path is correct, I write a main function just inside GetException.java, it proves that the path is correct ,xml file can be read successfully. My project root dir is "/home/wuchang/workspace/MongodbI". But When this Class is loaded from other class,such as I called one of its static functions , it reports the error message: /home/mrs/??/eclipse/src/exception/ExceptionCode.xml (No such file or directory) /home/mrs/??/eclipse/ is actually my eclipse installation directory.So , I wander how System.getProperty("user.dir") returned the eclipse installation directory to me ,instead of my project root directory?

• iptables rule problem

  I've been searching around for some time now, but nothing solves my problem. I'm setting up a mail server, but when writing to the iptables, I get an error: iptables-restore: line 2 failed. I'm tryig to use the following /etc/iptables.test.rules: # Allows SMTP access -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT # Allows pop and pops connections -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 995 -j ACCEPT # Allows imap and imaps connections -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 143 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT After this, I'm issuing the following command: sudo iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.test.rules However I get returned this: iptables-restore: line 2 failed. I am tracking Each played, completed (cleared for the first time), failed and cleared level Milestones: number of players to reach level 1, 5, 10, etc. Also for number of failed and played levels. Separate new players from returning ones. However, I still find it difficult to get a clear picture of what is going on from the stats. So what are the best practices for determining where I am losing players?

  Recently while working on a project to import data from an Excel worksheet using SSIS, I realized that sometimes the SSIS Package failed even though when there were no changes in the structure/schema of the Excel worksheet. I investigated it and I noticed that the SSIS Package succeeded for some set of files, but for others it failed. I found that the structure/schema of the worksheet from both these sets of Excel files were the same, the data was the only difference. How come just changing the data can make an SSIS Package fail? What actually causes this failure? What can we do to fix it?

• Windows not shown in Grub after installing 12.10

  I just installed 12.10 alongside Windows 7. I split my partition into two because disk reader during the installation didn't recognize Windows 7 as being installed on the computer. It installed correctly and I restarted only to find out it wasn't recognized in Grub also and booted straight to Ubuntu. I read this post and thought of using boot-repair would be fine but I gain this error: gpt detected. Please create bios-boot partition (>1MB, unformed filesystem, bios_grub flag). This can be performed via tools such as Gparted. Then try again. I've no idea what it means or what to do next. Suggestions would be appreciated and I have lost my Windows installation disk and I really don't want to have to go looking for it.

But I have a problem, I couldnt find any application even no terminal in the installation. And even not possible to install in system settings or software update menu.   Possible Duplicate: How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? I have no idea what was deleted or uninstalled or even what system ran previously on the computer. The computers are public computers for an office and no one know's how to use this system! Most people can't figure it out and have never even heard of it (I have because I knew someone who ran it)!! So how do I remove it? Is there anyway to just do a virtual restore? I'm hoping it was windows 7 on here previously cause don't most 7 systems have a built in windows installation disk iso? Anyone know how or if this can be fixed?? No we don't have the re-installation disks (if we did I would know the system and not have a problem) HELP!!!!

• Why wont a simple socket to the localhost connect?

  I am following a tutorial that teaches me how to use win32 sockets(winsock2). I am attempting to create a simple socket that connects to the "localhost" but my program is failing when I attempt to connect to the local host(at the function connect()). Do I need admin privileges to connect to the localhost? Maybe thats why it fails? Maybe theres a problem with my code? I have tried the ports 8888 & 8000 & they both fail. Also if I change the port to 80 & connect to www.google.com I can connect BUT I get no response back. Is that because I haven't sent a HTTP request or am I meant to get some response back? • Error when opening .tar.gz via Shell to install Apache Maven

  Thank you in advance for the help. My Goal: To install apache maven per its websites instructions (http://maven.apache.org/download.html), in order to install the JUNG package according to its install instructions (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/jung/wiki/JUNGManual), so I can use the JUNG classes in various Java GUIs. The Problem: I get an error message when I try to extract the apache-maven .gz (install?) file in shell. Background: I'm trying to install the JUNG (http://jung.sourceforge.net/index.html) package to my system's Java, so I can write object-oriented code using various GUIs (Ecliplse, Dr. Java) using the classes in JUNG. I don't understand how the building/installing process works, and how I can get what I build/install to work on various GUIs and the command line. I'm new to shell and the command line, and mostly have experience using a simple IDE (DrJava, Python IDLE, R GUI) to write and compile object-oriented code. Machine: Mac OSX 10.5.8 32-bit. The Instructions: For the maven building Extract the distribution archive, i.e. apache-maven-3.0.4-bin.tar.gz to the directory you wish to install Maven 3.0.4. These instructions assume you chose /usr/local/apache-maven. The subdirectory apache-maven-3.0.4 will be created from the archive. ... for the JUNG installation Appendix: How to Build JUNG This is a brief intro to building JUNG jars with maven2 (the build system that JUNG currently uses). First, ensure that you have a JDK of at least version 1.5: JUNG 2.0+ requires Java 1.5+. Ensure that your JAVA_HOME variable is set to the location of the JDK. On a Windows platform, you may have a separate JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and JDK (Java Development Kit). The JRE has no capability to compile Java source files, so you must have a JDK installed. Therefore, I used the shell to navigate to the root directory and then to /usr/local, and used the mkdir command to make the directory apache-maven and entered it. I then moved the file using the mv command. Next I tried extracting the file using tar -zxvf apache-maven-2.2.1-bin.tar.gz. The Error Message: tar: apache-maven-2.2.1/direcoryandfile: Cannot open: No such file or directory ... apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext: Cannot mkdir: No such file or directory apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext/README.txt tar: apache-maven-2.2.1/lib/ext/README.txt: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors From what I can tell the archive file is missing some directories or something. I tried deleting the file, redownloading the .tar.gz file from a different mirror and repeating the process. Same result. Thanks again for the help

• Watchguard SSLVPN user connection issue

  I have a user that needs access to our SSLVPN on our Watchguard firewall from his company issued laptop. The problem is when he tries to connect as himself he cannot connect. If I login to the machine it works fine, if I add him to the domain admins group in Active Directory it works fine… So, we know it is an access issue but I cannot figure out what access he needs. He is in the SSLVPN-Users group which I thought would give them all the access they needed but apparently not… Here is the output of the SSLVPN Logs when trying to connect: 2012-09-14T15:40:55.834 Launching WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client. • Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter not working probperly - Code 31 on Host

  I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Hyper-V installed. From a "clean" Hyper-V configuration I open Virtual Switch Manager, create an External switch with "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter", click OK. Everything seems to work properly but the host loses network connectivity. Opening Device Manager, the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter" is shown under the Network Adapter section with a yellow triangle, and the following message: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) An object ID was not found in the file. I tried "Uninstalling" the device, seems to work, but the device doesn't actually remove. I tried removing and re-adding the Hyper-V feature completely, no difference. Tried scf /scannow, no problems. System and Application logs show no errors.   I'm trying to use Windows Server Backup on my Windows Server 2012 box to backup my Hyper-V VMs. I created a backup job but each job ends with some "Access is denied" errors. One of my VMs (Linux Server) is backed up properly. All others (one Windows 8, one Linux) are not (or at least it seems that way from the looks of the log file below). How can I solve this problem?   Hello, I'm running NexentaStor Enterprise on an HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server. The onboard NIC interfaces surface as igb0 and igb1 and work well. However, I've added an HP NC375T 4-port network card using the NetXen 3031 chipset. This card should be handled by the ntxn driver in the SUNWntxn package, but that results in "ntxn0: failed to map doorbell" messages upon boot. The network interfaces don't show up. After some research, I found HP's driver package for the card. The release notes for the driver package state: This version of the Driver is supported only on Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09. Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09 contain an older version of NetXen P3 driver package called SUNWntxn. So, adding another version of NetXen P3 driver package using pkgadd command might result in conflicts with the NetXen driver binary & related files. Users are advised to uninstall native SUNWntxn driver package before installing the new package.
