  • How to migrate a running KVM (with full disk copy) to another node?

    I'm doing tests on KVM, and I'd like to see if I can make a hot migration, I mean the virtual machine won't stop running during the migration (but a few seconds of freeze is ok). I use a small cluster for my test : kvm1, kvm2, and kvmnfs. kvm1 and kvm2 runs the virtual machines kvmnfs is a NFS server, and it's mounted on /KVM on both kvm1 and kvm2 To migrate a VM (only RAM in fact) from kvm1 to kvm2, I run the same kvm command on kvm2 (with -incoming tcp:0:4444) that on kvm1, then I use "migrate -d tcp:kvm2:4444" : It works great, since the VM file is common to both machines. Now, I wan't to make a full migration (RAM + disk) of a local VM file (no more NFS) of kvm1 to kvm2. I tried to create an empty file, with touch, on kvm2 and use the same kvm command line + the "-incoming ..."). Then on kvm1 I use "migrate -d tcp:kvm2:4444" : It copies everything, then... the VM fails (any I/O disk gives an I/O error) ! And my VM file on kvm2, the one I created with touch, as still a size of 0 bytes. What am I doing wrong ? What is the exact command to use on kvm2 ? And what is the command to launch, in the monitoring mode, on kvm1 ?

  • What's the simplest configuration of SVN on a Windows Server to avoid plain text password storage?

    I have an SVN 1.6 server running on a Windows Server 2003 machine, served via CollabNet's svnserve running as a service (using the svn protocol). I would like to avoid storing passwords in plain text on the server. Unfortunately, the default configuration and SASL with DIGEST-MD5 both require plain text password storage. What is the simplest possible way to avoid storing passwords in plain text? My constraints are: Path-based access control to the SVN repository needs to be possible (currently I can use an authz file). As far as I know, this is more-or-less independent of the authentication method. Active directory is available, but it's not just domain-connected windows machines that need to authenticate: workgroup PCs, Linux PCs and software that uses PySVN to perform SVN operations all need to be able to access the repositories. Upgrading the SVN server is feasible, as is installing additional software.

  • XML: Multiple roots + text content outside the root. Does anyone do it?

    I have another one of those "is it done in XML" questions (my last one about xml comments hasn't been answered if anyone has a good explanation) I was just wondering if anyone, anywhere would: Use multiple root elements in an XML document Put text content outside of a root element W3C discourages these practices, Javascript's DOMParser doesn't even allow these cases, and I can't think of one sane reason to do either of these things. However, I know how bizarre some implementations of XML have been, so I wouldn't be surprised. Does anyone have any real world examples where this would be done? I will also accept an answer that specifies if other mainstream parsers allow doing either of these.

  • Why does text look so Horrible in my HD monitor???

    I just bought a 1080p 22" Samsung HD monitor (connected via HDMI) and the picture and video quality is great but the text quality is absolutely horrible. Even as I type now all the text in this text box as well as in the browser toolbar and start menu, etc looks weird - like it all has a white outline around it that makes it jagged and hard to read. It hurts my eyes just to look at it. I am running my PC in the suggested native resolution of 1920 by 1080, so what's the problem? Is this one of the unavoidable downsides of using a HD monitor? Is there a solution to the problem?

  • Working with Tile Notifications in Windows 8 Store Apps – Part I

    One of the features that really makes Windows 8 apps stand out from others is the tile functionality on the start screen. While icons allow a user to start an application, tiles provide a more engaging way to engage the user and draw them into an application. Examples of “live” tiles on part of my current start screen are shown next: I’ll admit that if you get enough of these tiles going the start screen can actually be a bit distracting. Fortunately, a user can easily disable a live tile by right-clicking on it or pressing and holding a tile on a touch device and then selecting Turn live tile off from the AppBar: The can also make a wide tile smaller (into a square tile) or make a square tile bigger assuming the application supports both squares and rectangles. In this post I’ll walk through how to add tile notification functionality into an application. Both XAML/C# and HTML/JavaScript apps support live tiles and I’ll show the code for both options.   Understanding Tile Templates The first thing you need to know if you want to add custom tile functionality (live tiles) into your application is that there is a collection of tile templates available out-of-the-box. Each tile template has XML associated with it that you need to load, update with your custom data, and then feed into a tile update manager. By doing that you can control what shows in your app’s tile on the Windows 8 start screen. So how do you learn more about the different tile templates and their respective XML? Fortunately, Microsoft has a nice documentation page in the Windows 8 Store SDK. Visit http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh761491.aspx to see a complete list of square and wide/rectangular tile templates that you can use. Looking through the templates you’ll It has the following XML template associated with it:  <tile> <visual> <binding template="TileSquareBlock"> <text id="1">Text Field 1</text> <text id="2">Text Field 2</text> </binding> </visual> </tile> An example of a wide/rectangular tile template is shown next:    <tile> <visual> <binding template="TileWideImageAndText01"> <image id="1" src="image1.png" alt="alt text"/> <text id="1">Text Field 1</text> </binding> </visual> </tile>   To use these tile templates (or others you find interesting), update their content, and get them to show for your app’s tile on the Windows 8 start screen you’ll need to perform the following steps: Define the tile template to use in your app Load the tile template’s XML into memory Modify the children of the <binding> tag Feed the modified tile XML into a new TileNotification instance Feed the TileNotification instance into the Update() method of the TileUpdateManager In the remainder of the post I’ll walk through each of the steps listed above to provide wide and square tile notifications for an application. The wide tile that’s shown will show an image and text while the square tile will only show text. If you’re going to provide custom tile notifications it’s recommended that you provide wide and square tiles since users can switch between the two of them directly on the start screen. Note: When working with tile notifications it’s possible to manipulate and update a tile’s XML template without having to know XML parsing techniques. This can be accomplished using some C# notification extension classes that are available. In this post I’m going to focus on working with tile notifications using an XML parser so that the focus is on the steps required to add notifications to the Windows 8 start screen rather than on external extension classes. You can access the extension classes in the Windows 8 samples gallery if you’re interested.   Steps to Create Custom App Tile Notifications   Step 1: Define the tile template to use in your app Although you can cut-and-paste a tile template’s XML directly into your C# or HTML/JavaScript Windows store app and then parse it using an XML parser, it’s easier to use the built-in TileTemplateType enumeration from the Windows.UI.Notifications namespace.   • How can I take a one time full backup of a Windows Server without the need for a restore program?

    I have a Windows SBS server with about 500GB of data that I'm decommissioning but I'd like to take a final backup of the server and place it on an external USB drive. I already have multiple backups of the server on disk from the past but they are through Simpana Commvault. I'd like a backup that will simply copy the file structure, ACLs, timestamps, etc. as is to a NTFS volume on the external drive. This way if someone says "I need x file on the server you decommed" I can search the external drive real quick instead of firing up Commvault, cataloging, restore, etc. I know the built-in Windows backup is great, I just don't feel like running it for a restore job on this. I'd like an option where in the future it won't require a program to run a restore. Rather a simple mount of the drive will suffice. I believe I can use robocopy just fine, but I'm not sure if it will grab the Windows directory, system files, and full user profiles correctly even with the /ZB option. Options? Is Robocopy /E /ZB /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT /MT:32 /R:5 /W:5 /LOG:copylog.log the way to go here?

  • How to remove line breaks (or carriage returns) only from certain parts of a block of text?

    Whenever I copy formatted text from a PDF file which is formatted to have line breaks (or carriage returns), I need to find a way to remove these line breaks without removing the paragraph format. To do this I need to use RegEx (Regular expressions) to only remove the line breaks which aren't preceded by a period. So for example, if a string of text has a line break right after a period, that is obviously almost always a legitimate line break which will start a new paragraph. If a string of text has a line break mid-word or after a word with no period, it's simply part of the bad formatting I need to get rid of. My problem is that I don't know how to use RegEx to make it only remove the ^p tags in word or CRLF or line breaks in any format under the conditions that it omits ones following a period.

  • How to turn a pdf into a text searchable pdf?

    I have a number of scanned documents in pdf and I want to be able to search them. How can I do that? Essentially I have to OCR the pdf and then blend the extracted text back into a new pdf. I have unsuccesfully tried pdfocr (which gives me this issue: https://github.com/gkovacs/pdfocr/issues/7) pdfsandwich (of which the software center says it is a poor package and I should not install it) Is there a software package I am unaware of? Or a script that does this?

  • What time to display in text messages in multiplayer game?

    Say I'm having a multiplayer RTS game. There's a main server for each individual game and several clients connected to it. All packets are sent to server first and then server retransmits them back to clients. Say Server is located in one time-zone and all of the clients are in different time-zones. ClientA send a text message in chat at 12:03, what times should be stamped for other clients? Should his message be uniformely timestamped by Server (12:02) or each client should timestamp the message whenever it is recieved (12:04, 16:04, 03:03, etc..). Bear in mind, that all the messages are to be in the same order on all clients, server takes care of that. So thats the question - use local time for each client or use global server time to timestamp chat messages?

  • Dolphin Search Toolbar is missing its text field. How can I get it back?

    A while ago, my Search Toolbar bar went missing in dolphin. I'm referring to the Search Toolbar found under SettingsToolbars ShownSearch Toolbar. I used to sit at the very top right corner of the window. If the search toolbar is checked for view/unhide, the toolbar looks to activate something, as there is a slight shift in the interface buttons, but the text field is gone from the toolbar. I tried reconfiguring with dpkg, purging and reinstalling, etc. I left it alone as I thought it would be fixed in an update, but today I upgraded dolphin and it's still gone. This appears to be a 4.6 bug or something. Any thoughts?

    I have to record a video to showcase a tool I've made. It's going to include my talking, but I also want some overlay text (subtitles) for people who doesn't have sound. I'm looking for a program that will let me add a text overlay (as subtitle) for my video, and if possible, export it as .flv . I've tried this so far: Used CamStudio for recording, using their lossless format. Converted the .avi file to a .flv using Any Video Converter (free version) I've been having some trouble with the output of CamStudio, some programs can't play the file right, it skips forward and backward. (VLC, Adobe Media Encoder CS4) So I'm looking for a program that accepts videos from CamStudio*, can add text to my video, and hopefully export as flv. *(If that's not possible I'm open for other recording programs). I'd like to ONLY use free programs, and I'm on Windows XP. Looking forward to your help :)

I am wondering if it is a best solution for mass installations. I know that for mass installations IT teams use systems like Microsoft System Center which allow automate deployment. But I do not know much about capabilities of such systems. Can such system automate data entry into the text fields? Will it be better to change installation process and ask not a text but a file which contains Subscriber ID? By the way, I am looking for beta testers for my software.     Iam a total newbie to Ubuntu . I installed Cinnamon through terminal . The problem is that when i boot up, if i don't enter the password before 1 or 2 minutes the password field will freeze and won't accept any text inputs.The problem was most likely caused by Cinnamon because i guess the problem started after i tried to install some Cinnamon extensions. Please answer in non-technical way as far as possible. I will never go back to Windows whatever be the outcome. Help me stay on to Ubuntu.

    People entering college today have never known a world without an Internet. HTML was invented 1980, that's more than thirty years ago or 1.5 generations. But plain text mails are still common despite all their problems: Encoding issues Wrapped code segments No links No way to use the "a picture says more than a thousand words" lore Most of the security risks are now handled by the underlying browser engine and smart settings like: Don't allow JavaScript in mails Don't execute attachments Don't download external resources (like web bugs) On top of that, only very few people still read mail only in command line tools like Mutt. Knowing Mutt myself, I'm pretty sure you can configure it to display HTML mail with, say, w3m. On top of that, most HTML mail capable clients send two versions of the mail (pure text with an HTML attachment). I'm not sure if there are any people left on the planet which still use a 56kbit modem to access their mail accounts. So what reasons are left to stick with plain text mails in 2011?

  • Can I set a hyperlink's display text from a document property?

    I'm trying to make a word document customizable through a document property that contains the base URL of all the links. I've managed to make the links themselves reference the document property like this: { HYPERLINK { QUOTE "http://{ DOCPROPERTY Host}/some/path" } } Changing the document property and updating the files makes the hyperlinks point to the correct URL. However, visually, nothing changes - the old URL is still shown as the display text of the hyperlink. Is there a way to make this work? Microsoft docs helpfully state You can edit the display text for the field by typing over it. but I can't figure out how that is supposed to work - even if I manually type over the hyperlink, it includes the edits in the field code instead of adjusting the display text. Currently attempting in Word 2002, but 2010 also available.

    I would like an exact duplicate of the following procedure on a Windows computer using mouse clicks: Right Click in a directory and choose New and then Text Document. When one does this, the text file is created with a default name of New Text Document AND it is also highlighted so that I can type in my own file name. I would like to do this in DOS. I don't care what file name is originally created. What I want is for the name of the file to automatically be highlighted / able to be renamed, so that I can rename it. How can DOS execute / simulate a rename command / an F2 being pressed on the keyboard to a file that it has just created?

First, I am expecting the 70 entrances in the funnel to equal the 131 experiment visits. Also, I expect the 23 conversions in the funnel to match the 21 transactions below. But they do not. How should I read this information to make good decisions?

    In my haproxy configs I'm setting a stick-table of size 5 that stores every incoming IP address (for 1 minute), and it is set as nopurge so new entries won't get stored in the table. What I'd like to have happen is that they would get denied, but that isn't happening. The stick-table line is: stick-table type ip size 5 expire 1m nopurge store gpc0 And the whole configs are: global maxconn 30000 ulimit-n 65536 log 127.0.0.1 local0 log 127.0.0.1 local1 debug stats socket /var/run/haproxy.stat mode 600 level operator defaults mode http timeout connect 5000ms timeout client 50000ms timeout server 50000ms backend fragile_backend tcp-request content track-sc2 src stick-table type ip size 5 expire 1m nopurge store gpc0 server fragile_backend1 A.B.C.D:80 frontend http_proxy bind *:80 mode http option forwardfor default_backend fragile_backend I have confirmed (connecting to haproxy's stats using socat readline /var/run/haproxy.stat) that the stick-table fills up with 5 IP addresses, but then every request after that from a new IP just goes straight through -- it isn't added to the stick-table, nothing is removed from the stick-table, and the request is not denied. What I'd like to do is deny the request if the stick-table is full. Is this possible? I'm using haproxy 1.5.

    I have an ASUS ENGT440/DI1GD5 video card which has three outputs: DVI, D-Sub and HDMI. I am using both D-Sub and DVI, but my main monitor is connected to the DVI output. Everything works fine except for the text mode. The card somehow uses the D-Sub output in text mode when both monitors are connected (when I disconnect the D-Sub output and leave only the primary monitor connected to the DVI output, it's being used correctly). How do I make the card use only the DVI output (or both) in text mode?

  • Can we have some "coming soon" text in our app? Will Apple reject it? [closed]

    We're getting ready to push our app live. There's some functionality that's not ready yet; it's accessory, not crucial to the user, but it does provide some interesting context. If I have a button with the name of the feature (e.g., "Panoramic Views") and a "COMING SOON" label stuck over it, will Apple reject the submission? What if instead of a button it's just a text label somewhere announcing "Panoramic Views coming soon!"? I've seen some material online saying that "coming soon" is a no-no but all I could find in Apple's guidelines themselves was 2.9, "Apps that are "beta", "demo", "trial", or "test" versions will be rejected". Which is certainly not the case! Thanks in advance, any help greatly appreciated.

  • How do I find all text with particular background color?

    I have a LibreOffice Writer document that has undergone a process of editing, and sections of the text that needed to be rewritten were highlighted in yellow. As I fixed those sections, I removed the yellow highlight. Now, I want to make sure there are no remaining areas of highlighted text that have not been fixed or possibly the highlight was not removed. It's many hundreds of pages, so a manual scan is unfeasible. Also, it might be that one space or one character got accidentally left highlighted, and I want to ensure I've accounted for them all. How can I search the document to find all instances where text has been highlighted?
