  • PeopleSoft and Fusion Middleware White Paper

    - by david.bain
We all know that PeopleTools is a very productive Enterprise Application Platform. It provides business logic, ui, reporting, integration etc.. . . virtually the entire stack. The question many PeopleSoft users have is 'If I have PeopleSoft, what can Fusion Middleware do for me?'. An excellent question. A white paper has just been published that answers that question. It's available on the www.oracle.com/peoplesoft site under the 'White Paper' link. Select the link that says 'Read this White Paper to learn how your PeopleSoft Application can benefit from Oracle Fusion Middleware'. After you've read the paper and are interested in more details, be sure to visit the PeopleSoft - Fusion Middleware Best Practice Center here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/fmw4apps/peoplesoft/index.html

  • Using portable Mode for true crypt for crypting Portable HDD , USB etc

    - by Gaurav_Java
I was wondering how to encrypt my external HDD so that my data would be safe AND accessible from any OS platform (Windows and Linux). So I went through many posts and forums and found out the best thing was to use true crypt. I went along with this post and encrypt my USB drive. When inserted that, Windows didn't recognize it. Then I followed another post that said to install truecrypt. The thing is : How can i use traveler disk setup in Ubuntu (Option not found)? Install truecrypt in USB so that i can *mount my USB or HDD on any other OS? If there is no solution for the upper two, then is there any other software which I can use to encrypt an USB device so that it can be accessed from any OS?

  • Url Navigation

    - by russ.bishop
One of the new features is URL-based navigation which is useful for creating intranet links or auto-generating email links (such as from workflow systems, etc). For IIS 6 and earlier, the format is as follows: http://machine/drm-client/Logon.aspx? app=<appname>&action=go&ver=<version name>&hier=<hier name>&node=<node name> Just replace the fields with their appropriate values (URL-encoded of course). <node name> is optional. If provided it will open the hierarchy and expand directly to the target node. Otherwise the hierarchy is opened to the top node. Note that if the specified version is not loaded it will be loaded automatically.

  • Windows Embedded Forums

    - by Luca Calligaris
Here are the forums about Windows Embedded: Windows Embedded Standard Windows Embedded Compact Platform Development Windows Embedded Compact Managed Application Development Windows Embedded Compact Native Application Development The first forum has been online for some time while those about Windows Embedded Compact have been welcomed by Olivier Bloch a couple of hours ago. As I discuss in the previous post the public MS newsgroups will close between June 1, 2010 and October 1, 2010, starting from those with less traffic. The embedded NG's will be probably close at the beginning of the period since, for some reasons I do not understand, they're not so popular as those devoted to, let's say, Office. The forums will substitute the newsgroups so prepare to switch over soon!

  • What's the best way of marketing to programmers?

    - by Stuart
Disclaimer up front - I'm definitely not going to include any links in here - this question isn't part of my marketing! I've had a few projects recently where the end product is something that developers will use. In the past I've been on the receiving end of all sorts of marketing - as a developer I've gotten no end of junk - 1000s of pens, tee-shirts and mouse pads; enough CDs to keep my desk tea-free; some very useful USB keys with some logos I no longer recognise; a small forest's worth of leaflets; a bulging spam folder full of ignored emails, etc... So that's my question - What are good ways to market to developers? And as an aside - are developers the wrong people to target? - since we so often don't have a purchasing budget anyways!

  • Can and should UDF be used as a hard drive format?

    - by dlamblin
Several time recently I've seen UDF suggested as the solution to a cross platform format for a drive used on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows XP and above. I've searched here and not found the same suggestion (most are suggesting ntfs-3g which seems to cost money and isn't preinstalled on a Mac). So my question is: how is this done right, and has anyone done this? Have you then filled up the drive and deleted some files to make space finding that everything works like a real r/w format even though it seems to have been primarily a write once format?

  • Expression Blend 4 available and training resources

    - by pluginbaby
As you may know Expression Blend 4 has shipped! It is still part of Expression Studio, which now comes in 2 “flavors”: Expression Studio 4 Ultimate Expression Blend SketchFlow Expression Web + SuperPreview Expression Encoder Expression Design Expression Studio 4 Web Professional Expression Web + SuperPreview Expression Encoder Expression Design So the version you want for Silverlight is Expression Studio 4 Ultimate (because you can’t buy Expression Blend alone). Expression Blend is an awesome tool but might be difficult to approach at first, specially for people coming from Visual Studio… this tool target designers so it can takes time for a developer to get comfortable enough. Good news is the availability of a free “Blend Fundamentals Training” which contains plenty of resources to help you master Expression Blend in 5 days: http://www.microsoft.com/expression/resources/BlendTraining/   Also don’t forget the .toolbox: http://www.microsoft.com/design/toolbox/ This Microsoft website contains courses and tutorials to help you learn UI Design for Silverlight with Expression Blend.

  • Why did Apple remove Python support in Mavericks, aka Mac OS X 10.9?

    - by alex gray
Apple has removed Python support (at least on the Developer level) in 10.9. Python IS still on the machine in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework... but trying to link to Python using the 10.9 SDK fails. /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.9.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks does not have Python. I'm not a Pythonista, but find it interesting that Apple has made this change. I don't understand why this is done and I'm a bit annoyed that I have to remove Python from my compilation units in order to compile with 10.9 SDK. Is this a statement by Apple, along the lines of "People aren't using Python very much anymore so we're going to phase out support"? Or was something else driving the change?

  • C++ Game Library for SVG Based Game

    - by lefticus
I'm looking into building a cross-platform opensource 2D RPG style game engine for ChaiScript. I want to be able to do all of the graphics with SVG and need joystick input. I also need the libraries I use to be opensource and compatible with the BSD license. I'm familiar with allegro, ClanLib, and SDL. As far as I can tell, none of these libraries have built in or obvious integration for SVG. Also, I'm aware of the previous conversations on this site regarding Qt for SVG game development. I'm hoping to avoid Qt because of the size and complexity of making it a requirement. Also, Qt does not seem to have joystick input support, which would require that SDL or some other library also be used. So my question can be summed up as this: What is the best way to get SVG and joystick support in a 2D C++ library while minimizing dependencies as much as possible (preferably avoiding Qt altogether)?

    - by arungupta
Adam Bien, a self-employed enterprise Java consultant, an author of five star-rated books, a presenter, a Java Champion, a NetBeans Dream Team member, a JCP member, a JCP Expert Group Member of several Java EE groups, and with several other titles is one of the most vocal advocate of the Java EE platform. His code-driven workshops using Java EE 6, NetBeans, and GlassFish have won accolades at several developers' conferences all around the world. Adam has been using GlassFish for all his projects for many years. One of the reasons he uses GlassFish is because of high confidence that the Java EE compliance bug will be fixed faster. He find GlassFish very capable application server for faster development and continuous deployment. His own media properties are running on GlassFish with an Apache front-end. Good documentation, accessible source code, REST/Web/CLI administration and monitoring facilities are some other reasons to pick GlassFish. I've recently installed ubuntu and I need Android SDK (and subsequently, adb) in order to develop my apps to college. The fact is that, no matter what I do, I can't get adb to work. Exporting its place to the PATH didn't worked. I only get "file or directory not found" error while this are the contents of the PATH variable: renan@RocketQueen:~$ echo $PATH /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/home/renan/adt/sdk/tools:/home/renan/adt/sdk/platform-tools I don't want to install android-tools-adb/fastboot because they're outdate when compared to SDK Manager ones. What do I need to do in order for it to work from anywhere when called from terminal?

  • Dynamic Memory Allocation and Memory Management

    - by Bunkai.Satori
In an average game, there are hundreds or maybe thousands of objects in the scene. Is it completely correct to allocate memory for all objects, including gun shots (bullets), dynamically via default new()? Should I create any memory pool for dynamic allocation, or is there no need to bother with this? What if the target platform are mobile devices? Is there a need for a memory manager in a mobile game, please? Thank you. Language Used: C++; Currently developed under Windows, but planned to be ported later.

  • Exporting SWF With Transparent Background For Scaleform/UDK

    - by Alex Shepard
After looking all over in the UDN and forums I have yet to find a solution for this: I am currently using Flash CS3 and Actionscript 2.0 to build my scaleform menus and I can use them in the UDK. For various reasons I can't use the handy plugin Autodesk supplies to enable this export so I publish my flash documents to swf the old fassioned way and manually use the gfxexport.exe tool to get my .gfx file. I can then import into the UDK the normal way. My problem is that the flash movies that I import will not alpha blend even if the material is set to blend in the alpha channel of the target render texture. My project images are set up to export properly. My classpath for Actionscript 2.0 is set to the correct location. My HTML publish settings have window mode set to Transparent Windowless. Is it possible to export without the scaleform flash extension and still get the desired effects and if so how might I do so? Am I merely missing something from my project setup?
