  I have a website and I have an AdSense account as well. I have integrated AdSense and ads are also getting displayed (480 x 60). Somewhere I read that I can manage the ads that are being shown in my website (480 x 60) and filter out the ads on a CPM/CPC basis. NOTE: I don't have any ads to be displayed on other's websites. I just want to show other's ads on my website. Now, can I use Google DFP to manage the ads? I mean is Google DFP useful for me to filter the ads and get me more revenue?

  I'm trying to figure out Puppet (3.0) and how it relates to built-in Hiera. EDIT: I just left the office but a thought struck me: I should probably restart puppet master so it can see the new hiera.conf. I'll try that on Monday; in the meantime, if anyone figures out some not-it problem, I'd appreciate it :)

• Why can I not add a set accessor to an overriden property?

  In a base class I have this property: public virtual string Text { get { return text; } } I want to override that and return a different text, but I would also like to be able to set the text, so I did this: public override string Text { get { return differentText; } set { differentText = value; } } This however does not work. I get a red squiggly under set saying that I can not override because it does not have a set accessor. Why is this aproblem? What should I do?

• update-apt-xapian-index uses 100% CPU, even when Update Manager is set to not check for updates

  I have a slightly older laptop running Ubuntu 11.10. It runs fine, but frequently, when I start it up, the CPU monitor in my Gnome Panel shows 100% usage for for what can be up to five minutes or so. It seems that the offending process is update-apt-xapian-index, which, if I understand correctly, is the update manager checking for updates. I have gone into the update manager settings, and selected to never check for updates. I'll do that manually when I feel like I have the time to leave the laptop running for that. However, despite my selection, this still happens. Roughly 50% of the time or more, when I start my laptop, it runs update-apt-xapian-index. How can I get the update manager to respect my settings, or at least to get this process to stop eating my CPU cycles?

• How do I shutdown 12.10 when ACPI is set to OFF?

  I recently installed 12.04 on an HP Spectre XT ultrabook. I installed 12.04 from a USB. When the install was complete, and the computer restarted, I got a blank screen. After some searching, I found that I had to choose "acpi=off" during the installation, which now shows up in the grub screen. Once I was on 12.04, I upgraded to 12.10. The issue now is that when I hit shutdown, the computer hangs on a purple shutdown screen. Usually, at this point, I press the power button on the machine to completely power off the machine. I am new to ubuntu, and would appreciate the help. Thanks.

• How to set up simple VPN for secure Internet connections over unencrypted Wi-Fi on Windows?

  I'm looking for a solution similar to the one in this question, except that I don't have a linux computer. I have windows computers that could be set up to accept VPN connections. Preferably I want to set this up on either Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. I'd like to connect different devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, laptops, etc.) that are on open unsecure wireless networks (e.g. the one's you see at places like Starbucks) to this VPN to ensure that all my data is secure. I found an article that shows that you can enable VPN connections on Windows XP. After following those steps, though, I'm not sure what to do. Which ports do I open on my firewall? Which VPN settings do I use on my devices such as the iPhone? Do I use L2TP, PPTP, or IPSec? What's the difference between these? Are there any other steps missing in that tutorial? I'm hoping that since Windows has this built in feature, that it will be much simpler to set up rather than having to deal with setting up something such as OpenVPN. If I follow those settings and enable port forwarding on port 1723, and then use the following settings on the iPhone: PPTP (IP Address) RSA SecurID: Off Encryption Level: Auto Send All Traffic: On Proxy: Off It shows "Connecting..." then "Disconnecting..." and the following error message: VPN Configuration A connection could not be established to the PPP server. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your Administrator. I'm using a user account that I enabled privileges to in the VPN settings on the Windows machine.

• How do browsers/PHP handle characters outside the set characterset?

  I'm looking into how characters are handled that are outside of the set characterset for a page. In this case the page is set to iso-8859-1, and the previous programmer decided to escape input using htmlentities($string,ENT_COMPAT). This is then stored into Latin1 tables in Mysql. As the table is set to the same character set as the page, I am wondering if that htmlentities step is needed. I did some experiments on http://floris.workingweb.nl/experiments/characters.php and it seems that for stuff inside Latin1 some characters are escaped, but for example with a Czech name they are not. Is this because those characters are outside of Latin1? If so, then the htmlentities can be removed, as it doesn't help for stuff outside of Latin1 anyway, and for within Latin1 it is not needed as far as I can see now...

  I am learning the multi-threading and timer in C# now. But it seems I can't find a good solution. For example, I would like to see how many addition problems that I can solve within 1 min. I would like my program to have A digital clock to count for 60 seconds in the top of my Console. Print a math problem in the middle of my console wait for my input. When 60 seconds is done, stop the math problem challenges immediately (most of time, it is still waiting for my input, but we will stop it immediately). Count how many correct problems that I have solved. Two challenges of the program now. a) how can we make sure the print time and math problem do not mess up. b) how can we stop the math challenges part immediately after time is up

• Any way to set up a grid for a board game in cocos 2d?

  My first idea was to create a 2d array for my columns and rows, but it seems like there should be a better, or possibly cleaner, way to achieve this. Each square on the grid is going to have a background image, probably a .png although I might just draw the images with a draw method. Basically, I want to be able to drag and drop images onto the individual grid squares. I've been searching for a solution and the closest thing I can find is the tiled map solution. That just seems like a little overkill for what I'm trying to accomplish. Also, I don't know if this helps but i need my grid to be 12 by 12 and take up the entire width of the iphone screen.

• Getting Bad file descriptor when running Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase

  When running a test using the Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase I'm getting a stack trace that isn't related to the test. The test is passing so this is probably happening on the test clean up? I'm using Python 2.7.2, Tornado 2.2. • Powershell script to append an extension to a file, input from CSV

  Hi All, All I need is to have an Excel list of file paths and use Powershell to append (not replace) the same extension on to each file. It should be very simple, right? The problem I'm seeing is that if I go input-csv -path myfile.csv | write-host I get the following output: @{FullName=C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\appendto.me} @{FullName=C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\append_list.csv} @{FullName=C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\leavemealone.txt} In other words it looks like it's outputting the CSV "formatting" as well. However if I just issue import-csv -path myfile.csv, the output is what I expect: FullName -------- C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\appendto.me C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\append_list.csv C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\leavemealone.txt Clearly there's no file called "@{FullName=C:\Users\jpalumbo\test\leavemealone.txt}" and a rename on that won't work, so I'm not sure how to best get this data out of the import-csv command, or whether to store it in an object, or what.   I got this when I tried to install the source code on Windows Server 2008 R2, and this was an issue with EntLib 4.0 as well. The solution is the same now as it was then, but since I had a new OS install I didn't recreate the fix. • Simple way to set up port knocking on Linux?

  There are well known benefits of Port Knocking utilities when utilized in combination with firewall IP table modification. Port Knocking is best used to provide an additional layer of security over other tools such as the OpenSSH server. I would like some help setting it up on a ubuntu server. I looked at some port knocking implementations here: PORTKNOCKING - A system for stealthy authentication across closed ports. IMPLEMENTATIONS http://www.portknocking.org/view/implementations fwknop looked good. I found an Android client here. And fwknop (both client and server) is in the ubuntu repos. Unfortunately, setting it up (on the server) looks difficult. I do not have iptables set up. My proficiency with iptables is limited (but I understand the basics). I'm looking for a series of simple steps to set it up. I only want to open the SSH port in response to a valid knock. Alternatively, I would consider other port knocking implementations, if they are much simpler to set up and the desired Linux and Android clients are available.

• Why is my display name in Ubuntu Software Center some weird set of letters?

  In USC, after I submit a review, my display name is "Bnxdcty"... a swell name, but where did it come from? I have checked the ubuntu single sign on page, verified my nickname on there, changed it to something else and back again for good measure, but still my reviewer name is somehow still "Bnxdcty". I even unauthorized ubuntu software center and then re-opened it/authorized it to my account. Does this just appear as this to me and others see my correct user nickname? It doesn't bother as much as it confuses me. I just know it will be something stupid that everyone knows but me.

• JBoss as a windows service. Where can i set the JAVA_OPTS?

  hi. I'm running JBoss as a windows service, but i can't seem to find where i can configure the JAVA_OPTS to make it work properly. I need to set the Xms and the Xmx. I have tried to just run JBoss manually (run.bat) and in the same file i set the JAVA_OPTS= -Xms128m -Xmx512m. And that works. Here is my install.bat where i install the JBoss as a service: set JBOSS_CLASS_PATH=%JAVA_HOME%\lib\tools.jar;%JBOSS_HOME%\bin\run.jar rem copy /Y JavaService.exe D:\PROJECT\bin\JBossService.exe JBossService.exe -install JBoss %JAVA_HOME%\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll -Djava.class.path=%JBOSS_CLASS_PATH% -start org.jboss.Main -stop org.jboss.Shutdown -method systemExit -out %PROJECT_HOME%\log\JBoss_out.log -err %PROJECT_HOME%\log\JBoss_err.log -current D:\PROJECT\bin net start JBoss When i look at the info about JBoss Application Server (http://localhost:8080/web-console/) i see this info: JVM Environment Free Memory: 9 MB Max Memory: 63 MB Total Memory: 63 MB And i MUST have more Max Memory. • How do I set up XDMCP access via GDM?

  I am a newbie to ubuntu linux, and want to setup xdmcp access, so i can access it from my windows box using xming. part of it is learning exercise also, since i know i could use vnc to directly connect to ubuntu. I modified the gdm's custom.conf file like this [xdmcp] Enable=true but when i launch xlaunch, i see a blank screen, further diagnosing with wireshark, i got that the udp port 177 on the linux box is unreachable so i disabled the firewall on linux box, but still same result. I checked with nmap and there is no service listening on UDP 177 port, the gdnsetup on natty is quite different from the older version, where setting up xdmcp was in UI
