  • Rendering another screen on top of main game screen in fullscreen mode

    my game runs in fullscreen mode and uses active rendering. The graphics are drawn on the fullscreen window in each game loop: public void render() { Window w = screen.getFullScreenWindow(); Graphics2D g = screen.getGraphics(); renderer.render(g, level, w.getWidth(), w.getHeight()); g.dispose(); screen.update(); } This is the screen.update() method: public void update(){ Window w = device.getFullScreenWindow(); if(w != null){ BufferStrategy s = w.getBufferStrategy(); if(!s.contentsLost()){ s.show(); } } } I want to display another screen on my main game screen (menu, inventory etc). Lets say I have a JPanel inventory, which has a grid of inventory cells (manually drawn) and some Swing components like JPopupMenu. So i tried adding that to my window and repainting it in the game loop, which worked okay most of the time... but sometimes the panel wouldn't get displayed. Blindly moving things around in the inventory worked, but it just didn't display. When i alt-tabbed out and back again, it displayed properly. I also tried drawing the rest of the inventory on my full screen window and using a JPanel to display only the buttons and popupmenus. The inventory displayed properly, but the Swing components keep flickering. I'm guessing this is because I don't know how to combine active and passive rendering. public void render() { Graphics2D g = screen.getGraphics(); invManager.render(g); g.dispose(); screen.update(); invPanel.repaint(); } Should i use something else instead of a JPanel? I don't really need active rendering for these screens, but I don't understand why they sometimes just don't display. Or maybe I should just make my own custom components instead of using Swing? I also read somewhere that using multiple panels/frames in a game is bad practice so should I draw everything on one window/frame/panel? If I CAN use JPanels for this, should I add and remove them every time the inventory is toggled? Or just change their visibility?

  • Programmatically updating one update panel elements from another update panel elements

    While taking interviews for asp.net candidate I am often asking this question but most peoples are not able to give this answer. So I decided to write a blog post about this. Here is the scenario. There are two update panels in my html code in first update panel there is textbox hello world and another update panel there is a button called btnHelloWorld. Now I want to update textbox text in button click event without post back. But in normal scenario It will not update the textbox text as both are in different update panel.   • CMS vs Admin Panel?

    Okay, so this probably seems like an unusual, more grammar related question, but I was unsure of what to call it. If you use a software such as vBulletin or MyBB or even Blogger and you're the administrator (or other, lesser position such as moderator) of the forum, or publisher/author of the blog, you generally have access to something of an "admin panel". For example, vBulletin's admin panel looks like this and Blogger's admin panel looks something like this. While they both look different and do different things, the goal is fundamentally the same: to provide the user with a method for adding, modifying, or deleting content... to let them control and administrate their forum or blog. Also, they're both made specifically by the company for use in a specific product. Now, there's also options like Drupal. It seems to offer quite a bit more and be quite a bit more generalized. How does something like this work? If you were freelancing, would you deploy a website with Drupal, or would it be something the client might already have installed on their own server? I've never really used Drupal, only heard about it, so please let me know. Also, there seems to be other options like cPanel, a sort of global CMS that allows you to administrate over your entire website. How do those work in comparison to Drupal, or the administrative panels with vBulletin? They seem to serve related, but different purposes. Basically, what is the norm? If I'm developing a web application for a group that needs to be able to edit their website without the need to go into the code or the database (or rather, wants to act in a graphical, easy-to-use content-management/admin panel), would it also be necessary to write my own miniature admin panel? Or would I be able to send them off knowing that they have cPanel? Or could something like Drupal fill this void? Again, I'm a little new to web development, and I'm working on planning out my first, real, large website. So I need a little advice on the standards and expectations for web development - security and coding practices aside, what should I be looking for as far as usability and administration for the client (who will be running the site once I'm done creating the website)? Any extra tips would also be appreciated! Oh, and just a little bit: I'm writing the website using Ruby on the Sinatra framework (both Ruby and Sinatra are things I'm fairly comfortable with) and I'm not being paid to make the website (and I will also be a user, and one of the three administrators of the website) - it's being built for a club I'm in.

  • Editing /.config/dconf/user

    I am having a problem with Gnome3 (actually, I have it set to fallback mode, or Gnome 2). I have two displays and I need an X screen (I used nvidia-xconfig and nvidia-settings to do this) for each screen. However, every time I either restart X or log in, Gnome seems to be adding the objects values under /gnome/gnome-panel/layouts (ex. first time I set the two separate X screens I had clock, then log out/in, there was clock and clock1 under objects, and then log out/in there were three, clock, clock1, clock2,.......log out/in, ............30 times....clock, clock1, clock2, ......clock 42.....!! The same thing goes for top-panels, menu-bars, etc.) After a while, I found out I could remove all those using the dconf-editor, going to /gnome/gnome-panel/layouts, removing all the repetitions under fields objects-id-list and top-id-list and leaving one value of each object. This is not a solution but at least allow me to keep using Linux without so much problem. However, the problem persists every time I restart X or log in. I now finally learned about "dconf" and where the user profile settings are located (~/.config/dconf/user) and one can use "dconf" to see the keys. In my case, I need to change/remove many keys (all those clocksX, workspace-X, menu-bar-X, etc., where goes from 1 to 42 and still counting) so it's really tedious and boring to be changing one by one using "dconf write". So I found "dconf dump", which actually allow me to dump everything into a .txt file and edit the file really quick (i.e, "dconf dump / >> dump_user.txt"). The problems? Two of them: How do I "load" back "dump_user.txt" I edited into the user profile? (I read somewhere there was a "dconf reload" but reload doesn't exist as a command under "dconf") How do I stop Gnome from keep adding more objects to my desktop environment every time I log in/restart X? NOTE: The problem doesn't occur when I set the displays to use TwinView feature (i.e., the desktop is extended/shared by both displays). However, for my case I need two separate X's. Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • 3 Monitors, Ubuntu 12.04, Gnome 3, 2 nvidia cards, WITH xrandr or xinerama?

    Ok. I have been banging my head against the wall for over a week now trying to get 3 monitors to work. I have: 1 - Nvidia 8600 GT 512MB PCIEx16 1 - Nvidia GT 240 1GB PCIEx16 They are not running in SLI (obviously). I have tried to use everything from tutorials to a few templates, all the way up to nvidia-settings, etc etc etc.. From what I hear, Xinerama doesnt like gnome 3 because of the compositing, although I have read a lot about using Xrandr instead, and getting the compositing working, but alas, I cannot. It always either crashes X and I have to replace the xorg.conf with my backup, or it defaults to the gnome-classic desktop, and on top of that, when it does default, it keeps adding more and more panels. Basically, I want to be able to use all 3 monitors (yes, just like in windows) to drag and drop from different windows. I have xorg-edit, but I am still not too sure on how to set this up? Is there any way to: A Get compositing working with 3 monitors, 2 nvidia cards, xinerama, and gnome 3? or BUse twinview with 3 monitors (I have heard it can be done by manually editing xorg.conf) or CSet up Xrandr to draw all 3 monitors with compositing. or DUse separate X for each monitor, and be able to use gnome with compositing, as well as drag between all 3 or EANYTHING. lol. I just want this to work. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I am running an ubuntu mini install with gnome. Everything works great but this. I can run it fine with 2 monitors and compositing, but not with 3. Also, what is the best GUI tool for editing xorg.conf? Im not finding anything that is up to date at all, and also is understandable by humans. haha. Im actually an engineer by trade, and have been working with computers a LONG time, but this xorg.conf stuff is really confusing the crap out of me. lol Thanks!

  • Visual Studio Code Analysis: CA0001 Error Running Code Analysis - object reference not set to an instance of an object

    For a WPF application being developed in VS 2012 (Ultimate), the application runs fine when a particular project's code analysis is disabled. Enabling it results in the error above. This was working fine until recently (i.e. running with code analysis enabled for the particular project) and the only recent change I can think of is removing NHibernate Profiler (using NuGet). Will be grateful for any pointers on how to debug this, or to see a more detailed log/error message.

I do most of my development in Visual Studio 2010 and also use Eclipse and Weblogic 10. Also planning to use WPF/Silverlight in the future. Will going for a i7 really benefit me or an i3 or an i5 will suffice for my needs?

  • NHibernate : restore session connection after session lost

    I'm using NHibernate with SQL Server 2005 in a WPF client application. If I stop the SQL Server service and then restart it the session doesn't automatically reconnect.     I have wpf datagrid with multiple selection (model has properties IsSelected...) and it works fine, but when I start program, I have to click on the table first and after that work multiple selection. When I first click on the table it select item under cursor (if i have pressed shift, it select the item too, not do multiple selection). I supposed it can be because of datagrid hasnt focus, but when I do datagrid.Focus() on loaded window, it doesnt helped. Thanks a lot

    I'm having a very weird error using the WebClient class in .NET 4. The app simply downloads some files off the internet and provides output on a textbox (the GUI is WPF). The method that does this is the following: void DownloadFiles(object files) { fileL = (List<string>) files; foreach (string url in fileL) { byte[] data; using (System.Net.WebClient k = new WebClient()) { data = k.DownloadData(url); } //Bunch of irrelevant code goes here... } } (I added the using while trying to divine [yes I'm that desperate/ignorant] a solution, the problem happens even if the webclient is declared and initialized outside the foreach loop) Now the problem appears only when I'm executing this method on a thread separate from the WPF UI main thread. If it is executed on the UI thread then it works perfectly. When a new thread is created with: Thread t = new Thread(DownloadFiles); t.Start(files); The first time the code goes into the loop it will work, but when its the second pass inside the loop, I will always receive a TargetParameterCountException.     Hi everyone I got a WPF application and I want to download a file. I'm using System.Net; and I have the following code: WebClient ww = new WebClient(); www.DownloadFileAsync(new Uri("http://www.sinvise.net/tester/1.jpg"), AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "\\1.jpg"); The problem is, is that it doesn't download the file, it's just showing up as 0kb file and not downloading, I don't know what the problem is, can anyone help?   • Customizing toolbar items in VS2010

    Has the menu & toolbar customization functionality in VS2010 been reduced? I can't seem to be able to select an icon for an added command, nor set it to be icon-only. Previous versions of Visual Studio supported this functionality and even allowed the creation/editing of custom icons. Is this something that has suffered as a result of the move to the WPF-authored UI or am I missing something?

  • Any way to disable horizontal scroll for FlowLayoutPanel in AutoScroll mode?

    I need a System.Windows.Forms.FlowLayoutPanel that only auto scrolls vertically. WrapContents is false, and I want it to work like a vertical stack panel. I can't find a way to disable the horizontal scroll. I've googled it, can't find a usable solution so far. The alternative is to abandon the FlowLayoutPanel, and try another control. What acts somewhat like a WPF stack panel but that expands and shrinks vertically with the contained controls?

    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to justify read-only text (rendered into a TextBlock) in Silverlight 2? WPF supports text justification by way of the TextAlignment enumeration: public enum TextAlignment { Left, Right, Center, Justify // <--- Missing from Silverlight :( } However, Silverlight 2 only supports the following: public enum TextAlignment { Center, Left, Right } Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.
