• Rails original release source code

  Hi, I've been looking to read some ruby code(specifically Rails) but I don't want to start with the current version of Rails since it has a lot of stuff I don't need and even more stuff that I wouldn't probably understand. I want to read only the core of Rails and supposedly the early versions were small and kind of easy to wrap one's head around(even for a neophyte like me). I have tried searching for the original release of rails, but have not been able to find it. The github repo consists of thousands of commits and I don't want to wade through those. What I want is to know whether there is any place I can get a zip or tar file with the original rails source or even the other early versions. Pointers to links will be very much appreciated. Thanks. p.s I'm new to ruby programming but not programming in general(I know a little python and scheme) and I understand blocks, lambdas and OO stuff, so I think I can tackle the rails source code. If anyone knows of other ruby projects that make for good code reading, i'd love to know of those too.

• Creating a Contact form in Visual Studio ASPX and saving to an XML file when clicking SUBMIT

  hey people hope all is well.. i am trying to create a form in VS using ASP that when upon submitting a form the details will get automatically stored in an xml file which can be accessed later on a chosen file save path i have 2 files ... "Contact.aspx" and "Contact.aspx.vb" i have created the form in the "Contact.aspx" and when trying to enter the fields in the "contact.aspx.vb" i keep getting several errors such as for example... Error 5 'Formatting' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.XmlBuilder' Error 6 'WriteStartDocument' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.XmlBuilder'. Error 7 'WriteComment' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.XmlBuilder'. Error 8 'WriteStartElement' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.XmlBuilder'. Error 10 'WriteAttributeString' is not a member of 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.XmlBuilder'. there is like 30 errors in total... im literally stuck out my head been trying for 2 days now and can't grasp what im doing wrong ive tried even some of the tutorials online but loads of errors... hope some1 can fix this thank you

• How to customize the printing while using Window.print ?

  i want to print a invoice and i use a print.css by media=print and when i change the current stylesheet to print.css i could able to view what i should be printing without the titles and content left aligned. But still while i'm printing there is space in the top and left and its taking up whole a4 sheet and also the whole width of the page.. But i've defined a body width of just 550 px. While i view to print preview, it takes the whole width instead of taking up 1/3 of the width.. • asp.net 3.5 app - can not load asemblies, "Strong name signature could not be verified", only when d

  Have developed an asp.net 3.5 application which consists of a we-site, some developed assemblies and some 3rd party assembles such as Telerik, Jayrock etc, all very much standard 3rd party apps. Created and built this app, tested on Win 2008 Eval running on a VM, all fine. Imagine my frustration when after installing on clients production Win 2008 server, that the app could not run and the error message was the "Strong name signature could not be verified. The assembly may have been tampered with, or it was delay signed ..." one. This was for all assembles in app (removed one and this kept popping up for a different assembly). Attempted to install on a machine on the network and received the same error. I am fairly baffled and a little freaked as I can not figure this out and time is rapidly running out. Have inspected all parts of server I know about (.NET, IIS7) but all seems fine. What could cause this? It sounds like there is a stricter security manifest on the production server - but where would I look and for what? It must be a group policy. only other item is that the machines are running Symantec ante-virus. The IT head is on hols so can't quiz him which is also frustrating - but as they say time waits for no man!

• How do I get flashvars in Firefox using object embed tag only to work?

  I am trying to generate an <object> tag only embed code and cannot get Firefox to pass Flash along the FlashVars values. This seems to work everyplace else that I've tried it but fails in Firefox. • Findbugs and comparing

  I recently started using the findbugs static analysis tool in a java build I was doing. The first report came back with loads of High Priority warnings. Being the obsessive type of person, I was ready to go knock them all out. However, I must be missing something. I get most of the warnings when comparing things. Such as the following code: public void setSpacesPerLevel(int value) { if( value >= 0) { ... produces a high priority warning at the if statement that reads. File: Indenter.java, Line: 60, Type: BIT_AND_ZZ, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS Check to see if ((...) & 0) == 0 in sample.Indenter.setSpacesPerLevel(int) I am comparing an int to an int, seems like a common thing. I get quite a few of that type of error with similar simple comparisons. I have alot of other high priority warnings on what appears to be simple code blocks. Am I missing something here? I realize that static analysis can produce false positives, but the errors I am seeing seem too trivial of a case to be a false positive. This one has me scratching my head as well. for(int spaces = 0;spaces < spacesPerLevel;spaces++){... Which gives the following findbugs warning: File: Indenter.java, Line: 160, Type: IL_INFINITE_LOOP, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS There is an apparent infinite loop in sample.Indenter.indent() This loop doesn't seem to have a way to terminate (other than by perhaps throwing an exception). Any ideas? So basically I have a handful of files and 50-60 high priority warnings similar to the ones above. I am using findbugs 1.3.9 and calling it from the findbugs ant task

• "Finding" an object instance of a known class?

  My first post here (anywhere for that matter!), re. Cocoa/Obj-C (I'm NOT up to speed on either, please be patient!). I hope I haven't missed the answer already, I did try to find it. I'm an old-school procedural dog (haven't done any programming since the mid 80's, so I probably just can't even learn new tricks), but OOP has my head spinning! My question is: is there any means at all to "discover/find/identify" an instance of an object of a known class, given that some OTHER unknown process instantiated it? eg. somthing that would accomplish this scenario: (id) anObj = [someTarget getMostRecentInstanceOf:[aKnownClass class]]; for that matter, "getAnyInstance" or "getAllInstances" might do the trick too. Background: I'm trying to write a plugin for a commercial application, so much of the heavy lifting is being done by the app, behind the scenes. I have the SDK & header files, I know what class the object is, and what method I need to call (it has only instance methods), I just can't identify the object for targetting. I've spent untold hours and days going over Apples documentation, tutorials and lots of example/sample code on the web (including here at Stack Overflow), and come up empty. Seems that everything requires a known target object to work, and I just don't have one.   Hi all, I'm using Wysihat in a rails project and am stumped by it's inability to bind to my textarea named post_description (model name Post field name description). • Use MySQL trigger to update another table when duplicate key found

  Been scratching my head on this one, hoping one of you kind people and direct me towards solving this problem. I have a mysql table of customers, it contains a lot of data, but for the purpose of this question, we only need to worry about 4 columns 'ID', 'Firstname', 'Lastname', 'Postcode' Problem is, the table contains a lot of duplicated customers. A new table is being created where each customer is unique and for us, we decide a unique customer is based on 'Firstname', 'Lastname' and 'Postcode' However, (this is the important bit) we need to ensure each new "unique" customer record also can be matched to the original multiple entries of that customer in the original table. I believe the best way to do this is to have a third table, that has 'NewUniqueID', 'OldCustomerID'. So we can search this table for 'NewUniqueID' = '123' and it would return multiple 'OldCustomerID' values where appropriate. I am hoping to make this work using a trigger and the on duplicate key syntax. So what would happen is as follows: An query is run taking the old customer table and inserting it in to the new unique table. (A standard Insert Select query) On duplicate key continue adding records, but add one entry in to the third table noting the 'NewUniqueID' that duped along with the 'OldCustomerID' of the record we were trying to insert. Hope this makes sense, my apologies if it isn't clear. I welcome and appreciate any thoughts on this one! Many thanks Jason

And this list will be stored in a linked list of parent list. My problem is to display the child list which in the parent_list. My desire to get while displaying the linked list of parent_list: This lists work with this logic. I already made append and other stuff. For example if i enter ab cd ab ja cd ab Word Count List ab 3 cd->ja cd 2 ab->ab ja 1 cd The problematic part is displaying child_list which is in the parent_list nodes(List column of output). • MPMoviePlayerContentPreloadDidFinishNotification seems more reliable than MPMoviePlayerLoadStateDidChangeNotification

  I am streaming small movies (1-3MB) off my website into my app. I have a slicehost webserver, I think it's a "500MB slice". Not sure off the top of my head how this translates to bandwidth, but I can figure that out later. My experience with MPMoviePlayerLoadStateDidChangeNotification is not very good. I get much more reliable results with the old MPMoviePlayerContentPreloadDidFinishNotification If I get a MPMoviePlayerContentPreloadDidFinishNotification, the movie will play without stuttering, but if I use MPMoviePlayerLoadStateDidChangeNotification, the movie frequently stalls. I'm not sure which load state to check for: enum { MPMovieLoadStateUnknown = 0, MPMovieLoadStatePlayable = 1 << 0, MPMovieLoadStatePlaythroughOK = 1 << 1, MPMovieLoadStateStalled = 1 << 2, }; MPMovieLoadStatePlaythroughOK seems to be what I want (based on the description in the documentation): MPMovieLoadStatePlaythroughOK Enough data has been buffered for playback to continue uninterrupted. Available in iOS 3.2 and later. but that load state NEVER gets set to this in my app. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this?

• (Rails) Creating multi-dimensional hashes/arrays from a data set...?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of an issue wrapping my head around something. I'm currently using a hacked version of Gruff in order to accommodate "Scatter Plots". That said, the data is entered in the form of: g.data("Person1",[12,32,34,55,23],[323,43,23,43,22]) ...where the first item is the ENTITY, the second item is X-COORDs, and the third item is Y-COORDs. I currently have a recordset of items from a table with the columns: POINT, VALUE, TIMESTAMP. Due to the "complex" calculations involved I must grab everything using a single query or risk way too much DB activity. That said, I have a list of items for which I need to dynamically collect all data from the recordset into a hash (or array of arrays) for the creation of the data items. I was thinking something like the following: @h={} e = Events.find_by_sql(my_query) e.each do |event| @h["#{event.Point}"][x] = event.timestamp @h["#{event.Point}"][y] = event.value end Obviously that's not the correct syntax, but that's where my brain is going. Could someone clean this up for me or suggest a more appropriate mechanism by which to accomplish this? Basically the main goal is to keep data for each pointname grouped (but remember the recordset has them all). Much appreciated. • Reduce white space between lines of text

  I am creating a webpage (first time) and i'm following as much of the CSS rules and tags as I can. However, I ran into a problem with white space. I've underlined the first line of text but now the second line seems to have drifted below. • Passing a Batch File an Argument Containing a Quote Containing a Space

  Hi, On many occasions I have dealt with passing batch files arguments with spaces, quotes, percents, and slashes and all sorts of combinations of them. Usually I managed to figure out how to accomplish what I want, but this time I am stuck. I have tried a couple of hundred combinations now and my head is starting to hurt. I’ve reduced the problem quite nicely. It’s a simple requirement: pass a double-quoted space from one batch file to another. That is, one batch file should pass some string X to another so that the the second one echos " ". I just can’t figure out what X should be. Here is a minimal batch file that demonstrates and attempt that does not work. (This BAT file takes the place of both by calling itself.) ::Goal is to print: ::" " ::That is, to pass a quoted space from a BAT file to a BAT file if not (%1)==() goto recurse %0 "" "" :recurse echo %1 pause It does not work. I’ve tried using "\" \"", """ """, """" """", "\"" "\"", ""\" \""", "^" ^"", ^"" "^", and so on. Either they print double double-quotes, lose everything after the space, or something else (that is wrong). Any ideas? Thanks.

• Can't access dynamically generated div with Jquery

  Still trying to get my head around JQuery and dynamically generated content. I have the following code that is dynamically generated with JQuery whenever a user clicks on an 'Add' button: <div id="practices_div" style="border-top: 1px dotted gray"> <br/> <a href="#" class="remove_link" rel="practices_div">Remove</a> ....content goes here </div> The JQuery code that dynamically loads the above content is as follows: $.ajax({ url: '/addAjax.html', success: function(response) { $('#container').append(response); } }); What I'm trying to do is when a user clicks on the Remove link, JQuery should hide and delete the dynamically generated content from the page. The code that does this is as follows: $('.remove_link').live('click', function() { if (confirm("Remove this item?")) { $('#practices_div').fadeOut('medium', function() { $(this).remove(); }); } return false; }); So, when the content is dynamically loaded via Ajax, and I click on the Remove link, the Confirmation dialogue box is displayed and if I confirm, nothing happens. For some reason, JQuery is not able find the dynamically generated #practices_div. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Moreover most likely the master thread is waiting on the accept() call so it's not able to check some other variable to see if it should break;. Most of the advice I found was along the lines of this: http://devcry.blogspot.com/2009/05/pthreads-and-unix-signals.html (creating a special signal handling thread to catch all the signals and do processing on those). However, it's the processing portion that I can't really wrap my head around: how can I possibly tell the main thread to return from the accept() call and check on an external variable to see if it should break;?

• Where to start when doing a Domain Model?

  Let's say I've made a list of concepts I'll use to draw my Domain Model. Furthermore, I have a couple of Use Cases from which I did a couple of System Sequence Diagrams. When drawing the Domain Model, I never know where to start from: Designing the model as I believe the system to be. This is, if I am modelling a the human body, I start by adding the class concepts of Heart, Brain, Bowels, Stomach, Eyes, Head, etc. Start by designing what the Use Cases need to get done. This is, if I have a Use Case which is about making the human body swallow something, I'd first draw the class concepts for Mouth, Throat, Stomatch, Bowels, etc. The order in which I do things is irrelevant? I'd say probably it'd be best to try to design from the Use Case concepts, as they are generally what you want to work with, not other kind of concepts that although help describe the whole system well, much of the time might not even be needed for the current project. Is there any other approach that I am not taking in consideration here? How do you usually approach this? Thanks

"macro"? extension?) that I can simply toggle outlining so that only the using section and my methods collapse to their signature line, but my comments (summary and double slash comments) and classes stay expanded? Every time I debug/hit a breakpoint, it uncollapses and messes up things. If I collapse via the context menu's collapse to outline etc. it also collapses my comments which isn't desired. Appreciate your help!

• How do I implement a group of strings that starts randomly, but is bound by relevance upon selection?

  Okay the title may be a little confusing, but here's what I'm trying to do :) I have a game in XNA where every tap from the user draws a moving circle on the screen. The circle has a tag, say 'dogs' displayed on it. So imagine multiple taps on the screen, and we have all these circles of various colors and sizes moving around the screen with different (but constant) velocities. Each circle with different tags: 'dogs', 'cats' and so on... Clicking on empty space generates a new circle at that point. Clicking on one of the circles "selects" it, turning it into a greeen shade and slowing its velocity down to a fraction of what it was. Clicking on it again "unselects" it, and restores its original color and velocity (trajectory does not change). With each circle comes a tag, and as of now I'm populating these tags randomly from a string array (which means there's a chance tags will repeat). I would like the tags for newly created circles to be relevant to previous "selected" tags. So when I click on 'dogs', I would like 'German Shepherd' but I would also like 'dog parks' and 'lemurs' assuming dogs get along well with lemurs. What would be the best way to approach this problem. In my head I have a massive many-to-many mapping, but I can't seem to translate it to code. Thanks for looking. • SASS mixin for swapping images / floats on site language (change)

  Currently using SASS on a website build. It is my first project using it, tried a little LESS before and liked it. I made a few basic mixins and variables with LESS, super useful stuff! I am trying to get my head around SASS mixins, and syntax, specifically for swapping images when the page changes to a different language, be that with body ID changing or <html lang="en">. And, swapping floats around if, for example, a website changed to chinese. So a mixin where float left is float left unless language is AR and then it becomes float right. With LESS I think it would be something like: .headerBg() when (@lang = en) {background-image:url(../img/hello.png);} .headerBg() when (@lang = it) {background-image:url(../img/ciao.png);} .header {.headerBg(); width: 200px; height:100px} .floatleft() when (@lang = en) { float: left;} .floatleft() when (@lang = ar) { float: right;} .logo {.floatleft();} Its the syntax I am having problems with combined with a brain melting day.

• Model value not being set on return from View to Controller

  I have a boolean model variable who's value is supposed to be set to TRUE in order to perform a process on return back into the Controller. It works absolutely fine on my local machine, but not on the remote web server. Can somebody PLEASE inform me what I am missing? The last alert shows that the value of the bool variable is "true". However, when I do page source views of the hidden variable, below is the result. The values of the hidden variable when the page loads and when the last alert button finishes are as follows: My local machine: The remote machine: As you can see, the value on my machine is set to true when the process executes. However, on the remote machine, it is set to false where it then doesn't excute. Why isn't the value in the model being returned as TRUE on the remote machine?

• Initializing Disqus comments in hidden element causes issue in FF 14.0.1

  This issue appears only in Firefox 14.0.1 (well I couldn't reproduce it in any other browser). If you put the code for Disqus comments inside an element that is hidden and wait until everything is fully loaded and then display the element using JavaScript, the comment box nor comments will show up. However if you resize the window, it'll show up immediately. It's working fine in latest version of Google Chrome and Safari though. What's causing this and how to fix it?
