• URGENT: Firefox circular-dependency hell - Linux Mint 13 (based on Ubuntu 12.04)

  Having difficulty re-installing Firefox, after an installation to resolve places.sqlite issues. It appears that I'm trapped in circular dependency hell. Need to resolve firefox dependency hell to attempt to resolve Tomcat6 project dependencies (don't ask), ASAP. Have been trying for hours. What I've done (brief) 1) sudo apt-get purge firefox firefox-globalmenu firefox-gnome-support 2) sudo apt-get update 3) sudo apt-get install firefox firefox-globalmenu firefox-gnome-support 4) sudo apt-get -f install Potential error sources: Found in(sudo apt-get install firefox firefox-globalmenu firefox-gnome-support) dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_18.0~a2~hg20121027r113701-0ubuntu1~umd1~precise_amd64.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/firefox/extensions', which is also in package mint-search-addon 2012.05.11 So, /usr/lib/firefox/extensions doesn't even EXIST!   GNU Screen (screen) behaves differently on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) compared to Linux (at least Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Gentoo) and OS X 10.4 (Tiger). In 10.5 and 10.6, new screens (made with screen or ^A c) always places me in my home directory ~. In Linux and OS X Tiger, new screens have a pwd of wherever the screen was created originally. • How to use X11 forwarding with putty

  I have a VM with RHEL 5 without an X server. My host has Windows 7. I need to connect to the VM and redirect the X11 output of the commands to my host. I know that if my host were a GNU/Linux machine it would be as easy as ssh -X . I'm ussing PuTTy to connect by SSH to the VM, I tried enabling X11 forward option in PuTTy config, but nothing happened. Have you ever done this? I'm quite advanced with GNU/Linux, but a newbie with this toy of Winbug$ 7.

  Hi, i have select like: select substr(account,1,4), currency, amount, module,count(*) quan, wm_concat(id) ids from all_transactions group by substr(account,1,4), currency, amount, module But sometimes COUNT(*) is more then 600. In that case i get: 'ORA-06502: PL/SQL: : character string buffer too small' Is there any way out to keep wm_concat(id) for all records? Because excluding this function for entries with big COUNT(*) is the way out.

  I'm using FOG as a TFTP / PXE server and would like to be able to boot a FreeBSD LiveCD (specifically pfSense, but it could be any LiveCD, really); I've found HOWTOs for booting a "netboot" BSD but they all seem to use a BSD server. So: Is it possible to PXE boot BSD from a Linux server? Is it possible to PXE boot a BSD LiveCD? Is it possible to PXE boot a Linux LiveCD? My main motivation is to be able to boot small LiveCD images (e.g. < 100MB) that I may only use once and don't want to burn a physical CD for.

I would use that information to put calibration settings in my xorg.conf file. However, in the most recent Ubuntu release, this command does not exist, and the package wacom-tools that previously installed it has now been removed. Is there a new method for calibrating Wacom pads under Linux? Should I have been using a different method all along for obtaining this information?

  I have a similarly described problem to this question: http://superuser.com/questions/90181/same-scsi-drive-appears-multiple-times-on-the-controller-list where a SCSI direct-access device appears as multiple lun's, when it should only be one. The device is a SCSI-1 device, the SCSI controller card is an Adaptec AHA-7850 (rev 03), and system is PC / Linux 2.6. This device worked fine with RHEL4, and appeared as a single device / lun when the OS booted, but I've just tried plugging the device into a newer Linux disto (CentOS 5.4) and it now sees the device as 8 luns; with consequently 8 device files /dev/sgb to /dev/sgi. Any clues of how to figure out where the problem / fix is, would be great.

  I have Windows Small Business Server 2003 premium edition on my new server box, this hosts a webapp on IIS. It has set up a DNS Server to solve requests to the webapp. I have a linux server/router that has does DNAT and portforwards port 80 to the new box. My linux router serves as a firewall and dhcp When i plug the SBS2003 server to the network, it leaves everyone on my network without web browsing, it looks like the DNS requests are going to the new server. I configured the DNS forwarders on SBS2003 to my ISP dns but it doesnt work... Is there something i am missing?

  I'm trying to install a CentOS OS with kickstart using HTTP as the installation source. The kickstart server and the installed server are both running on VMs on the same machine. after the anaconda system installer starts it fails with the following message: I tried installing two different versions of Centos(5.5 and 5.2), and they both pass a CDROM media test the manual installation provides.   I upgraded my host from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze, and now my CMS Made Simple site is spewing PHP errors all over the screen. • OpenVPN on Android TCP retransmissions after OpenVPN server reboot

  I raised OpenVPN on server for the first time. It worked fine until the server rebooted. The firewall configuration is unchanged. When I tcpdump from tun interface on the server, I always get TCP retransmissions on all TCP packets larger than a few bytes in Android. Using a similar(read: same) configuration on my Linux box from where I'm posting this message now works just fine; no retransmissions, no loss. It did work just fine before the server rebooted. What could possibly cause this? I already tried rebooting Android, it didn't help. Client configuration, used on both Linux PC and Android tablet: dev tun client remote 192.168.0.1 persist-key persist-tun nobind pkcs12 user.p12 mssfix 1480 cipher AES-256-CBC verb 3 1480 is below the mtu of uplink connection on server which is 1492. I tried adding tun-mtu 1480 to Android but that didn't help either.

• Cross platform support for network attached USB hubs?

  I am looking at network-attached USB hubs in order to run licensed software in a virtualized environment when hardware dongles are required. Are there any solutions that will work with both Linux and Windows? Most of the dedicated devices -- such as the Zonet ZUH2214 or the (oddly expensive) Digi AnywherUSB/2 -- appear to be Windows-only. Linux has the the USB/IP project, for which there appear to be Windows drivers, but the last "News" post on the site was in 2007, so I'm not entirely confident about the viability of the project. Has anyone out there found a solution that will work well in both environments?
