  • get pure text form odt file in console

    I am looking for a small linux tool that would be able to extract text from odt file. It just needs to be human-readable and it can have problems with complicated objects etc. It's almost a duplicate of this question but I need it to be small and have no dependencies on OpenOffice or X server I remember having a 1MB MS-DOS program that could render .doc files quite readibly (with some weird markup getting through from time to time), so i expect it to be possible in the linux world too ;)

    Hi, Im trying to find a way to plot a truss in matlab, i can do it by using an adjacancy matrix and the gplot function, but its very long winded approach especially if there are a lot of nodes connected to one another.   • Class initialization and synchronized class method

    Hi there, In my application, there is a class like below: public class Client { public synchronized static print() { System.out.println("hello"); } static { doSomething(); // which will take some time to complete } } This class will be used in a multi thread environment, many threads may call the Client.print() method simultaneously. I wonder if there is any chance that thread-1 triggers the class initialization, and before the class initialization complete, thread-2 enters into print method and print out the "hello" string? I see this behavior in a production system (64 bit JVM + Windows 2008R2), however, I cannot reproduce this behavior with a simple program in any environments. In Java language spec, section 12.4.1 (http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/execution.doc.html), it says: A class or interface type T will be initialized immediately before the first occurrence of any one of the following: T is a class and an instance of T is created. T is a class and a static method declared by T is invoked. A static field declared by T is assigned. A static field declared by T is used and the reference to the field is not a compile-time constant (§15.28). References to compile-time constants must be resolved at compile time to a copy of the compile-time constant value, so uses of such a field never cause initialization. According to this paragraph, the class initialization will take place before the invocation of the static method, however, it is not clear if the class initialization need to be completed before the invocation of the static method. JVM should mandate the completion of class initialization before entering its static method according to my intuition, and some of my experiment supports my guess. However, I did see the opposite behavior in another environment. Can someone shed me some light on this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  • jQuery - Creating a dynamic content loader using $.get()

    Hello everybody! (hello dr.Nick) :) So I posted a question yesterday about a content loader plugin for jQuery I thought I'd use, but didn't get it to work. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2469291/jquery-could-use-a-little-help-with-a-content-loader Although it works now, I see some disadvantages to it. It requires heaploads of files where the content is in. Since the code essentially picks up the url in the href link and searches that file for a div called #content What I would really like to do is to collect all of these files into a single file and give each div/container it's unique ID and just pick up the content from those. So i won't need so many separate files laying around. Nick Craver thought I should use $.get()instead since it's got a descent callback. But I'm not that strong in js at all.. And I don't even know what this means. I'm basically used to Visual Basic and passing of arguments, storing in txt files etc. Which is really not suitable for this purpose. So what's the "normal" way of doing things like this? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this right? I basically want to get content from a single php file that contains alot of divs with unique IDs. And without much hassle, fade out the existing content in my main page, pick up the contents from the other file and fade it into my main page.

  • Basic PHP OOPS Query

    Ok. I am starting out OOPS in PHP. Created a couple of classes: customer(parent) and sales(child) class that inherits from parent class. Created another testcustomer.php in which a new sales object is created however the salesprint() function defined in the sales class does not echo out customer's name though it is set to be "Jane" in the class.customer.php(parent). My thinking is that when sales class extends customer class PHP automatically includes all the code from class.customer.php to sales.customer.php and therefore the constructor in parent class set $name to "Jane".   • Quality of TFS 2008 merged code

    Does the quality of code merged by TFS 2008 depend on the used programming language? I know merging in Java / Subversion, and merging a branch to its trunk usually does not create much conflicts. Now in my company, we use VB.NET. When I merge two files TFS does not always get code blocks right, e.g. does not find the right If..then / end if lines. To give you an example, I mean: File 2 is created as a branch of File 1. Both files were changed later, now I'm going to merge those files and am recieving conficts: The marked end-if lines (1) are detected as corresponding, meaning the added event handler Button1_Click is being deleted. Now I wonder if this behavior is by language (C# vs. VB.NET) or are other source control solutions just better than TFS?   • How do I preserve installed applications when migrating Ubuntu to another platform?

    I'm looking at maybe moving from an older AMD64 to a new Intel dual-core which is 32 bit. Installation isn't a problem but can I transfer all the installed apps? I haven't been able to find anything so far on Google except where the migration is to a similar platform and file-system. I won't change the filesystem but the platform will be different. Is there something on the lines of the "World" file in Gentoo?

First of all this example does not print the string but return the function, but that's not my problem.     Within the @Controller of a search engine: @RequestMapping(value = "/search/{query}", method = RequestMethod.GET) public String search(@PathVariable String query) {} If a user wants to search /search/w?rld (wich should match world, warld, whrld, etc.), the variable query equals w, because of the question mark which indicated a GET var. I tried "/search/{query:.+}", but still doesn't work. Any idea how to solve that problem?
