  • Error when changing or resetting FBProfilePictureView profileId

    - by Jeff Schwartz
I have programmatically added an FBProfilePictureView object to a view. When initially logging in, the user's profile picture displays as expected when setting the profileId of the object within the FBLoginViewDelegate method loginViewFetchedUserInfo:user:. However, when logging off the following line of code produces an error: profilePicture.profileId = nil; The error thrown is: [__NSCFNumber isEqualToString:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance Note: This was only an issue after I incrementally upgraded the iOS SDK from 3.5 to 3.8. If anyone has encountered this issue, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Validate NSString

    - by Chris
I am validating an NSString to ensure that the string does not contain apostrophes. The code I'm using to do this is NSCharacterSet * invalidNumberSet = [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"'"]; NSScanner * scanner = [NSScanner scannerWithString:string]; NSString * scannerResult; [scanner setCharactersToBeSkipped:nil]; [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:invalidNumberSet intoString:&scannerResult]; if(![string isEqualToString:scannerResult]) { return 2; } Returning 2 represents an error. This code works, except for the case where the string is an apostrophe. To get around this issue, I added the following code above the preceding block. if([string isEqualToString:@"'"]); { return 2; } This code is evaluating to true, regardless of the input. I need to either prevent the first block from crashing with the input of ', or get the second block to work. What am I missing?

  • Adding the scrollview created by photoscroller to a subview

    - by wierddemon
    I'm trying to modify Apple's PhotoScroller example to make the scrollview that is created into a subview instead of it being a view that takes up the entire screen. Any ideas on how this can be accomplished? - (void)loadView { // Step 1: make the outer paging scroll view CGRect pagingScrollViewFrame = [self frameForPagingScrollView]; pagingScrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:pagingScrollViewFrame]; pagingScrollView.pagingEnabled = YES; pagingScrollView.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; pagingScrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO; pagingScrollView.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = NO; pagingScrollView.contentSize = [self contentSizeForPagingScrollView]; pagingScrollView.delegate = self; // When I do this it fails [self.view addSubview:pagingScrollView]; // Step 2: prepare to tile content recycledPages = [[NSMutableSet alloc] init]; visiblePages = [[NSMutableSet alloc] init]; [self tilePages]; }

  • How to call a method on UIButton in NSArray?

    - by user1792818
I'm trying to enable a button but the button that I would enable in this function changes. I have an array of the buttons but when I use the .enabled on the array index I want it says that this doesn't work for IDs. I have used this array to set the text of each button before using: [[ButtonArray objectAtIndex: Index] setTitle:(@"blahblahblah") forState: UIControlStateNormal]; is there any way to use a similar function call to enable and disable?

  • How to manage memory for ios with large csv files?

    - by Pell000
I'm new to ios development, and I'm running into issues relating to memory management and my approaches to dealing with large datasets. Right now, I am loading the csv files and storing the relevant data as objects in memory at app initialization. Some of the csv files are larger than 1MB, and in total, my app uses about 180MB of memory. This is obviously way too high of a number (unless the info I found is wrong and this is an acceptable number, then please let me know). I feel as though there is a fundamental flaw in my approach: is there a way I can avoid storing the csv files in the project itself? Or, is there a kind of "lazy" loading I can do so that I can simply look up info in the csv file, as opposed to loading all of the data from it at once? Any help would do. I think that I need a new perspective in how to manage this more efficiently.

  • How to create a NSPredicate to find entries with leading numerical value?

    - by Toastor
Hello, I'm using NSPredicates to fetch entities based on a name attribute. Creating a predicate for names beginning with letters was easy (@"name BEGINSWITH %@", searchLetter), however now I'd like to fetch all entities with a name that begins with a numerical value, or rather a non-alphabetical number. What would be the appropriate predicate expression here? Right now I don't want to get too deep into predicate programming, as this is all I need right now and time flies. So, please, don't point me to the Predicate Programming Guide, I just need that expression.. :) Thanks alot guys!

  • Load custom class properly

    - by LinusAn
I have a custom class which I want to "load" inside the firstViewController and then access it from other classes by segues. My Problem is, I can't even access and change the instance variable inside the firstViewController. Somehow I'm "loading" it wrong. Here is the code I used until now: inside viewController.h @property (strong, nonatomic) myClass *newClass; inside viewController.m @synthesize newClass; I then try to access it by: self.newClass.string = @"myString"; if(newClass.string == @"myString"){ NSLog(@"didn't work"); } Well, I get "didn't work". Why is that? When I write myClass *newClass = [myClass new]; It does work. But the class and its properties gets overwritten every time the ViewController loads again. What would you recommend? Thank you very much.

  • Where does the 'method' implementation go? (I'm a newbie)

    - by Spokane-Dude
I have this code: #import "SQLiteDB.h" @implementation SQLiteDB @synthesize db, dbPath, databaseKey; @end //-------------- check for database or create it ----------------| - (void)checkForDatabase { NSFileManager *filemanager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *databasePath = [[NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0] stringByAppendingString:@"/ppcipher.s3db"]; if(![filemanager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]) { //Database doesn't exist yet, so we create it... NSString *defaultDBPath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingString:@"/ppcipher.s3db"]; sqlite3 *db; if(sqlite3_open(databasePath, db) == SQLITE_OK) { } } } It's complaining that "method definition not in @implementation context". So where does it go? (I tried in the .h file, but still get the error)

  • iOS: Releasing Object Thats In Use (ARC)

    - by RileyE
I have an object that I have created that subscribes to some NSNotificationCenter notifications, but it is being released, since I don't have a pointer to the instantiation. The instantiation has a delegate that will call a method back to another class I have, so I felt it unnecessary to also have a pointer to it, since the pointer doesn't serve any purpose. Basically, I have an instantiation of a class, DelegateListener (name is just for example purposes), which subscribes to some of the default NSNotificationCeneter's notifications. This instantiation isn't assigned to any pointer after the instantiation ends. The instantiation, however, has a property, delegate. I assign a value to that delegate during the instantiation. That delegate implements methods that I want the DelegateListener to call when the notifications that it subscribed to fire. The problem with this is that the instantiation of DelegateListener that I create gets released, unless if I assign it to a retained pointer. Is there a way to avoid this automatic release of my DelegateListener instantiation within ARC?

  • Singleton Creation preference

    - by cwieland
You can create singletons in a variety of ways. I am wondering which is better between these. +(ServerConnection*)shared{ static dispatch_once_t pred=0; __strong static id _sharedObject = nil; dispatch_once(&pred, ^{ _sharedObject = [[self alloc] init]; // or some other init method }); return _sharedObject; } I could see that this compiles down to something very fast. I would think that checking the predicate would be another function call. The other is: +(ServerConnection*)shared{ static ServerConnection* connection=nil; if (connection==nil) { connection=[[ServerConnection alloc] init]; } return connection; } Are there any major differences between the two? I know these are probably similar enough to not worry about it. But Just wondering.

  • Question About Classic MVC

    - by kernix
Hello, In classic MVC the model notifies the view about changes made on it. In C# this means I have to subclass the View I'm interested in and in the subclassed class register to the model's event. For example, if I were to implement MVC using C# and Winforms, I had to subclass TextBox class and then register inside the MyTextBox's constructor for the model events. Am I correct? How was this issued in Smalltalk? Does one also need to subclass every View in order to register the model's events, or is there some way to dynamically add events to the views on the fly? Thanks

  • Uploading video file to server from iPhone

    - by SshUser
I know how to upload images to a server running PHP, but I am stuck on uploading video. I have used this advice to upload my video file. Posting method is all ok. What I get on the server is a file of 0 bytes. My code is below: - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { NSURL *videoURL = [info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL]; NSData *videoData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[videoURL path]]; } This videoData is passed in my POST method. What should I do instead?

  • Hide uiview, but not it's subview?

    - by Malene
    Hi! I have an app where i add ViewB as a subview to ViewA... But the background of ViewB is clearColor, which means that I can see ViewA through ViewB! If I set viewA to be hidden, ViewB goes away too! I am making a "flip-transition" between the views, so I can't just remove ViewA and then add ViewB :-/ -Anybody got an idea about what I can do? Here's my code: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:mainTableView cache:YES]; [mainTableView addSubview:subTableView]; [UIView commitAnimations];

  • Setting up an independent delegate?

    - by fuzzygoat
Its common for the dataSource and delegate to be the same object, its also common for this object to be the viewController. In all the info/tutorials that I have seen online delegates are always setup as above. If I wanted to create my own class instead can anyone give me any pointers as to how I might do that. Where does that object get instantiated, how do you connect the dataSource and delegate items etc. I am using UITableView to test this.
