  im trying to install nokogiri to use in a ruby on rails application to read xml files, ive been following the instructions on their page for home brew 0.9, when i try and install the libivcon from source as bellow wget http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/libiconv/libiconv-1.13.1.tar.gz tar xvfz libiconv-1.13.1.tar.gz cd libiconv-1.13.1 ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/Cellar/libiconv/1.13.1 make sudo make install i get the following error `make: *** No rule to make target `install'.   I have a table that holds nested categories. I want to avoid duplicate names on same-level items (i.e., categories with same parent).   Hi, I'm using an SSL certificate from geotrust. I just ordered and installed it this weekend. However when I try to access my website using https, firefox (and the other browsers as well) the browser warns that the certificate expired a few days ago. I guess there could be two reasons: I made a mistake during the installation of the certificate Geotrust did not sign the certificate properly. First I want to rule out the second reason considering my browser tells me the certificate expired a few days ago. This does not make sense at all. Is there a way to extract the expiration date from the certificate? Thanks!

• Why does git hash-object return a different hash than openssl sha1?

  Context: I downloaded a file (Audirvana 0.7.1.zip) from code.google to my Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.6). (current url: http://code.google.com/p/audirvana/downloads/detail?name=Audirvana%200.7.1.zip&can=2&q= ) I wanted to verify the checksum, which for that particular file is posted as 862456662a11e2f386ff0b24fdabcb4f6c1c446a (SHA-1). git hash-object gave me a different hash, but openssl sha1 returned the expected 862456662a11e2f386ff0b24fdabcb4f6c1c446a. The following experiment seems to rule out any possible download corruption or newline differences and to indicate that there are actually two different algorithms at play: $ echo A > foo.txt $ cat foo.txt A $ git hash-object foo.txt f70f10e4db19068f79bc43844b49f3eece45c4e8 $ openssl sha1 foo.txt SHA1(foo.txt)= 7d157d7c000ae27db146575c08ce30df893d3a64 What's going on?

• Propor usage of double and single quotes?

  I'm talking about the performance increase here. From all I know you can echo variables in double quotes ("), like so: <?php echo "You are $yourAge years old"; ?> But single quotes will just return You are $yourAge years old. But what about performance differences? I've always gone by the rule that single quotes are faster because the PHP interpreter doesn't have to search through the string for variables. But I'm seeing more and more blog and forum posts on the web saying differently. Does anyone actually have any information on this subject? Perhaps benchmark tests or something? Cheers.

Also, there are some files which are compiled together: g++ file_main.cxx file.cxx -o file_main.out To compile such files, until now I have been adding explicit rules in the Makefile: file_main.out: file_main.cxx file.cxx file.out: file_main.out @echo "Skipping $@" But now my Makefile has a lot of explicit rules, and I would like to replace them with a simpler implicit rule. Any idea how to do it?

• Where should common static resources (images, js, css, etc) go in DotNetNuke?

  Is there a recommended location to store static resources (images, css, js, etc) in a DotNetNuke 5.x installation? There are /images and /js folders as well as a /Resources folder that contains resources. There appears to be some overlap as MicrosoftAjax.js is in multiple locations (but might be different versions?). I also could put resources in a /DesktopModule/ModuleX location. Does anyone know if there is a difference in using any of these folders? I kinda like the idea of all static resources being under a common folder (/Resources) so I could set caching rule headers, permissions, etc on them in one place.   I am creating an android game using opengl and a cocos2d port (http://code.google.com/p/cocos2d-android-1). I am targeting a wide range of devices and want to ensure that it performs well. I only test on a nexus one and am hoping to get some input from people with experience on slower devices. Currently the game uses two 1024x1024 textures as well as two 256x256 textures. Is this within the limits of most devices? Anyone have any rule of thumb or experience with graphics memory limits in these cases? If gfx memory is exceeded does it page to normal memory?

  Hi all I'm writing a mini-MVC application. App architecture: actions/ templates/ site/ app/ styles/ images/ scripts/ So far, I've got a controller working properly, taking in all requests. However, javascript files are not being rendered properly in the browser; I'm getting a 404 Not Found when I try to load the file in the browser.   In a grid I have a date/time field where I would like the user to be able to type in short-hand formats for dates and times. For example, if they type in "435p" and then focus off of the cell they get the message "The value you entered isn't valid for this field.". Instead, I want to trap a pre-validationevent and change it to "4:35pm" for them. What event can I use? I've tried: LostFocus & BeforeUpdate: too late (validation fires before event) Dirty & OnChange: too early (they haven't left the cell yet) Or is there a way to turn off the native validation rule that is checking for date formats?

  I struggle with finding a good medium on communication. In our jobs, it seems like it's very easy to get lost in code and lose track of time. It also seems kind of ridiculous to send out updates for every tiny task. Even though I am working very hard on getting things done, in a company that has very active communication between other branches, it tends to look bad for me when I'm not constantly updating my status. However, if I'm working on a 3-4 hour project, I'm not going to update management for every single line of code that I output. Broad I know, depends on the people, company, etc, but what would be a good general rule of thumb for effective communication?

I've tried removing the +followSymlinks line, even the rewrite engine line. I haven't tried removing the conditions cause I don't think I should have to, I'm probably wrong.

  I want to create some diagrams for some papers. Diagrams will contain some text, e.g. some console output. I need images for using also in html files. There is TikZ so can create images like this: http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/boxes-with-text-and-math/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/rule-based-diagram/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/scenario-tree/ but as a result I get some ps/pdf files, not images. What's more I want to generate the pictures from text files as I want to track changes in some VCS, any binary files are not suitable for that.

• Get back the default browser styling for input fields

  I need to style all the input fields but one. So i have set a rule for all the inputs on the site. For the seachfield i need to use the browser default, so i was thinking i could just inherit all the values i have set for the general input fields. (After breaking change in October 2014, status field not return. So I see operation_status) I see that: "operation_status": { "code": 410, "description": "No file has been uploaded for this audience, or the previous upload has failed due to system error. Please try uploading the file again." } But after about 10s, I refresh again, and operation_status change to: "operation_status": { "code": 200, "description": "Normal" } My quetions is: how to check this audience's status is waiting ( uploading file) , like when I create on facebook not my our system. • Squid+iptables: how do i allow https to pass-through and bypassing Squid?

  Hello, Basically started with Squid and iptables today (google is your friend). This stuff is going to be the death of me. I have Squid3 setup on Ubuntu 9.04 server as Transparent Proxy. It works sweetly when i use the proxy-box as my default gateway etc. The iptable rules for this setup was part of the tutorial. :P I can unfortunately not access https sites (such as Gmail or anything on port 443 basically). This is because Squid dont like what it cannot cache, which in this case is the https traffic. I would like to add an iptable rule so that i can basically access https sites and use Skype. Basically allow these types of traffic to pass through without going through Squid proxy? (bypassing it so to speak) Would anyone perhaps know how to do this or have a link to any sources that would assist me in figuring it out? Thank you.

• Restricting deletion with NHibernate

  I'm using NHibernate (fluent) to access an old third-party database with a bunch of tables, that are not related in any explicit way. That is a child tables does have parentID columns which contains the primary key of the parent table, but there are no foreign key relations ensuring these relations. Ideally I would like to add some foreign keys, but cannot touch the database schema. My application works fine, but I would really like impose a referential integrity rule that would prohibit deletion of parent objects if they have children, e.i. something similar 'ON DELETE RESTRICT' but maintained by NHibernate. Any ideas on how to approach this would be appreciated. Should I look into the OnDelete() method on the IInterceptor interface, or are there other ways to solve this? Of course any solution will come with a performance penalty, but I can live with that.

• Query to work out possible destinations on a set of routes using SQL Server 2008

  I'm writing an application that models train routes, which are stored in the database table [TrainStop] as follows: RouteId StationCode StopIndex IsEnabled So a given route consists of several rows with the StopIndex indicating the order. The problem I am trying to solve is to say which stations a user can get to from a given starting station. This would be relatively straightforward BUT it is also possible to disable stops which means that a user cannot get to any destinations after that stop. It is also possible that multiple routes can share stations e.g.: Route 1: A, B, C, D, E Route2: P, Q, B, C, D, R So if a user is at B they can go to C, D, E and R but if station D is disabled they can get to C only. Solving this problem is fairly straightforward within C# but I am wondering whether it can be solved elegantly and efficiently within SQL? I'm struggling to find a way, for each route, to rule out stations past a row that is not enabled.

• Is it a good practice to perform direct database access in the code-behind of an ASP.NET page?

  Hi, I am an experienced developer but I am new to web application development. Now I am in charge of developing a new web application and I could really use some input from experienced web developers out there. I'd like to understand exactly what experienced web developers do in the code-behind pages. At first I thought it was best to have a rule that all the database access and business logic should be performed in classes external to the code-behind pages. My thought was that only logic necessary for the web form would be performed in the code-behind. I still think that all the business logic should be performed in other classes but I'm beginning to think it would be alright if the code-behind had access to the database to query it directly rather than having to call other classes to receive a dataset or collection back. Any input would be appreciated.

• .htaccess wildcard problem

  I've come across a problem with an .htaccess rule I can't sort out. It works on my MAMP stack and it works on 3 other servers, but it won't work on a particular server and keeps giving me a "500 error with an additional 302 error". It's the wildcard that's throwing it and from Google research it says it may be because of an infinite loop, but it works on other servers just fine. In PostgreSQL, a RULE or a stored procedure can be used to delete data on the fly, evaluating condition only once. Which solution is better? Are there other options?
