• How can I Query only __key__ on a Google Appengine PolyModel child?

  So the situation is: I want to optimize my code some for doing counting of records. So I have a parent Model class Base, a PolyModel class Entry, and a child class of Entry Article: How would I query Article.key so I can reduce the query load but only get the Article count. My first thought was to use: q = db.GqlQuery("SELECT __key__ from Article where base = :1", i_base) but it turns out GqlQuery doesn't like that because articles are actually stored in a table called Entry. Would it be possible to Query the class attribute? something like: q = db.GqlQuery("select __key__ from Entry where base = :1 and :2 in class", i_base, 'Article') neither of which work. Turns out the answer is even easier. But I am going to finish this question because I looked everywhere for this. q = db.GqlQuery("select __key__ from Entry where base = :1 and class = :2", i_base, 'Article')

  What is the best way to check if an instance of Microsoft SQL Server is up? I have a view that spans two instances of Microsoft SQL Server but before querying it in a stored procedure I would like to verify that the second instance of the server is up with a fallback option of just querying local data. The second instance is a linked server. Currently I'm considering a SQL CLR function that can attempt to open a connection with a shorter timeout but I'm wondering if it's something that can be done directly in Transact SQL.

• RPC Fails but passing in SQL Man. Studios works

  I am calling a stored procedure from a web service in an ASP.Net application. And until a few days ago, all was well. However now when i call it I get an error saying The timeout period elapsed prior to the completion of the operation or the server could not be reached. However when i would run SQL SERVER PROFILER, I could see that the call was getting to the database, but was timing out. I then copied the statement being executed found at the bottom of the Profiler and pasted it into Management Studio and executed it and it finishes in about 7 seconds.. This runs just fine on our production server. It seems to be similar to this question: SELECT DISTINCT not working in .NET application, but works in SQL Mgmt Studio but I see no answer.

  I need to store a undirected graph in a Google App Engine database. For optimization purposes, I am thinking to use database indexes. Using Google App Engine, is there any way to define the columns of a database table to create its index? I will need some optimization, since my app uses this stored undirected graph on a content-based filtering for item recommendation. Also, the recommender algorithm updates the weights of some graph's edges. If it is not possible to use database indexes, please suggest another method to reduce query time for the graph table. I believe my algorithm does more data retrieval operations from graph table than write operations. PS: I am using Python.

  Hi, We have nested folders with parent-child relationship. We use MySQL MyISAM DB. The data is stored in the DB in the following manner. Every time a child folder is created in the nested structure, the previous parentID is added. I want to get the RootFolderID of a folder which is added in the hierarchy as tabulated below. FoldID ParentID |RootFolderID -----------------|------------------- 1 0 | 0 2 1 | 1 3 2 | 1 4 3 | 1 5 4 | 1 Please let me know how to get the root folderID and populate it in the RootFolderID column after a folder is created each time.   I'm facing problems with initializing a std::string variable using "" (i.e. an empty string). It's causing strange behavior in code that was previously working. Is the following statement wrong? std::string operationalReason = ""; When I use the following code everything works fine: std::string operationalReason; operationalReason.clear(); I believe that string literals are stored in a separate memory location that is compiler-dependent. Could the problem I'm seeing actually be indicating a corruption of that storage? If so, it would get hidden by my usage of the clear() function. Thanks.

• WPF - How do I style a row based on a binding property value?

  Hey! So I am trying to bind a collection of objects (IList<) to a WPF datagrid. I would like to make the row background a different color if the 'artist' property is null or empty. I am checking the value stored at the property on the LoadingRow datagrid event. Currently my implementation seems to style all of the rows with an empty or null 'artist' property correctly. The problem is that is also styles the rows where the property is not null or empty in some cases. So some rows are given the red background even though the rows 'artist' property is not null. Can anyone tell me why this could be?? • How can I use linq to build an object from 1 row of data?

  Hi All, I have a quick linq question. I have a stored proc that should return one row of data. I would like to use a lambda to build an object. Here's what I'm currently doing which works, but I know I should be able to use First instead of Select except I can't seem to get the syntax correct. Can anyone straighten me out here?   Hi, I'm building a Wordpress plugin and I added a menu page which serves for management of "Vendor" entities that are kinda similar to the existing User entities. I have a list page similar to Users List, with Edit button for every record and when I click on the "Edit" button I should be taken to the "Edit Vendor" (which does not have its submenu item in the admin menu) page for that vendor. Everything is stored in the "plugins/wp_vendors" folder. Question: What URL should I use for opening that Edit page? How should a slug be registered for the Edit Vendor page? PS. Vendor List is added to the admin menu with add_menu_page('Vendors', 'Vendors', 8, 'C:\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\wp-vendors\vendors-list.php'); And I can open the List page with http://localhost/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wp-vendors/vendors-list.php Can anyone help me on this?

  How can I convert the following? 2934 (integer) to B76 (hex) Let me explain what I am trying to do. I have User IDs in my database that are stored as integers. Rather than having users reference their IDs I want to let them use the hex value. The main reason is because it's shorter. So not only do I need to go from integer to hex but I also need to go from hex to integer. Is there an easy way to do this in C#?

• Loading and managing reference data in Rails

  Most of the apps I've worked on have had some kind of reference data stored in the database, for example categories, zipcodes, area codes etc... this is information that's going to change very infrequently. Most of the time you want to load some kind of display name, and that's it. Currently this isn't causing me too many headaches, it's easy to :include the models I need when doing my queries, but going forward it causes a lot of query noise. Ideally I'd like to load the reference data when the app starts and when referencing it in queries it'll load from the cache instead of going to the database. What's the best way to manage this?

  I'm developing an iPhone app that uses the Extended Audio File Services. I try to use ExtAudioFileRead to read the audio file, and store the data in an AudioBufferList structure. AudioBufferList is defined as: struct AudioBufferList { UInt32 mNumberBuffers; AudioBuffer mBuffers[1]; }; typedef struct AudioBufferList AudioBufferList; and AudioBuffer is defined as struct AudioBuffer { UInt32 mNumberChannels; UInt32 mDataByteSize; void* mData; }; typedef struct AudioBuffer AudioBuffer; I want to manipulate the mData but I wonder what does the void* mean. Why is it void*? How can I decide what data type is actually stored in mData?

  Hi there. I've created a couple of shared templates (.xdp) which will be shared among several clients. Obviously, each client has their own logo and I'd like to set the logo upon form generation. I've managed to change the logo dynamically although I'm not sure if my approach is good. In the xml datasource I've got this element: <ClientID>SomeNumber</ClientId> In the form itself I set the image href with this javascript code: SomeHiddenTextField::calculate HeaderLogo.value.image.href = $record.ClientID + "_logo.jpg"; I've got the logos stored on the server in the same folder as the shared templates. Is this an alright approach to load logos dynamically? I've been trying to achieve the same dynamic behaviour with each client's footer fragment, but I have been unable to figure out how to load these on demand. I could make each footer fragment in to an image but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

Is there a way to persist the list of objects in lesser number of database interactions?

  I'm using an application that gives a timed output based on how many times something is done in a minute, and I wish to manually take the output (copy paste) and have my program, and I wish to count how many times each minute it is done. An example output is this: 13:48 An event happened. 13:48 Another event happened. 13:49 A new event happened. 13:49 A random event happened. 13:49 An event happened. So, the program would need to understand that 2 things happened at 13:48, and 3 at 13:49. I'm not sure how the information would be stored, but I need to average them after, to determine an average of how often it happens. Sorry for being so complicated!

• How to By Pass Request Validation

  Hi, I have a GridView and I need update some data inserting HTML CODE; I would need this data been stored encoded and decoded on request. I cannot in any way disable globally "Request Validation" and not even at Page Level, so I would need a solution to disable "Request Validation" at Control Level. At the moment I am using a script which should Html.Encode every value being update, butt seems that "Request Validation" start its job before event RowUpdating, so I get the Error "Page A potentially dangerous Request.Form ... ". Any idea how to solve it? • storing multiple values as binary in one field

  Hi I have a project where I need to store a large number of values. The data is a dataset holding 1024 2Byte Unsigned integer values. Now I store one value at one row together with a timestamp and a unik ID. This data is continously stored based on a time trigger. What I would like to do, is store all 1024 values in one field. So would it be possible to do some routine that stores all the 1024 2byte integer values in one field as binary. Maybe a blobfield. Thanks. Br. Enghoej

  In msbuild/xbuild I'd like to have a "libPath" property which can be ovveridden on the commandline using /p:libpath="/path/to/all/libs". But when this property is undefined I want to call pkg-config --retrieve-Path somePackage to get the current systems path. I thought like here I need the output of a command to be stored in a Property. The command always returns one line of output. I have tryied something like <PropertyGroup> <LibPath /> </PropertyGroup> <Task ....> <Exec Command="pkg-config --retrieve-Path somePackage" Condition="$(LibPath)' == ''"> <OutputTaskParameter="output" PropertyName="LibPath" /> </Exec> </Task> But that didn't work.

• Add version control to existing SQL Server database

  I am part of a development team currently working with a database that does not have any kind of source control. We work with SQL Server 2008 R2 and have always managed the DB directly with SSMS. It now has ~340 tables and ~1600 stored procedures, plus a few triggers and views, so it is not a small DB. My goal is to have the DB under version control, so I have been reading articles, like Scott Allen's series (http://bitly.com/9cJmGR) and many old SO related questions. But I am still unable to decide on how to proceed. What I'm thinking of is to script the database schema in one file, then procedures, triggers and views in one file each. Then keep everything versioned under Mercurial. But of course, every member of the team can access SSMS and directly change the schema and procedures, with the possibility that any of us can forget to replicate those changes in the versioned files. What better options are there? And, did I forget any element worth having source control of?

• How to deploy a Java Swing application with an embedded JavaDB database?

  I have implemented an Java Swing application that uses an embedded JavaDB database. The database need to be stored somewhere and the database tables need to be created at the first run. What is the preferred way to do these procedures? Should I always create the database in the local directory, and first check if the database file exist, and if it doesn't exist let the user create the tables (or at least show a message that the tables will be created). Or should I let the user choose a path? but then I have to save the path somewhere. Should I save the path with Preferences.systemRoot();, and check if that variable is set on startup? If the user choses a path and save it in the Preferences, can I get any problems with user permissions? or should it be safe wherever the user store the database? Or how do I handle this? Any other suggestions for this procedure?

• Django Generating RSS feed with description

  Hey Guys, I am trying to generate a full rss feed, however when loading the feed in Mail, it just shows the title, with a read more link at the bottom. I have tried several different options. But none seem to work. I would like to generate the feed with a combination of several feeds in my modl.
