  • Installing Eclipse and setting up Android ADT on OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard

    Hi, I am trying to install Eclipse Galileo on my MacBook running OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) and set it up with ADT plugin. I downloaded 64-bit cocoa version of "Eclipse Galileo for JEE developers" and ADT v0.9.6 from the respective offical sites. When I try to add this new plugin-archive in Eclipse, I get the following error: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found ....missing requirement: ADT requires 'org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0' but it could not be found. AFAIK, one gets this error when a required Eclipse-plugin is missing. I checked the official site and saw that wst-plugin is actually bundled with "Eclipse for J2EE developers" download package. Not sure what I am missing here. Please help. Thanks!

  • Managing database connections in an Android Activity

    I have an application with a ListActivity that uses a CursorAdapter as its adapter. The ListActivity opens the database and does the querying for the CursorAdapter, which is all well and good, but I am having issues with figuring out when to close both the Cursor and the SQLiteDatabase. The way things are handled right now, if the user finishes the activity, I close the database and the cursor. However, this still ends up with the DalvikVM warning me that I've left a database open - for example, if the user hits the "home" button (leaving the activity in the task's stack), rather than the "back" button. If I close them during pause and then re-query during resume, then I don't get any errors, but then a user cannot return to the list without it requerying (and thus losing the user's place in the list). By this I mean, the user can click on any item in the list and open a new activity based on it, but will often want to hit "back" afterwards and return to the same place on the list. If I requery, then I cannot return the user back to the correct spot. What is the proper way to handle this issue? I want the list to remain scrolled properly, but I don't want the VM to keep complaining about unclosed databases.     Hello, I am building an application which stores GPS locations in a SQLite database and then outputs the data onto a MapView using an Overlay by drawing a red line between the points. I want to be able to show graphical markers (images) for each of these points as well as the red line.   • Posting a JSON array to webservice in Android

    I am having some problems with what should be a rather simple task. I simply need a JSON array with a single JSON object within it to be posted to my webservice. The entire URL request needs to be formatted like this: http://www.myserver.com/myservice.php?location_data=[{"key1":"val1","key2":"val2"....}] I cannot for the life of me figure out how to append the 'location_data' bit using HttpPost.   • Android drawCircle's are not always 360 degrees

    When I call drawCircle (ex. canvas.drawCircle(x, y, r, mPaint);) and I use Paint Style STROKE to initialize param #4 mPaint, the result doesn't quite make a full 360 degree (2*PI radian) circle in all cases. Sometimes you get a full circle (as I would expect) and sometimes only an arc. Does someone have an idea what would cause this to happen? I don't know what cases work and which don't (yet). I've noticed the ones that don't work seem to be the larger circles I'm drawing (100.0 radius). Could be size related. I am using floating point for x, y and r. I could try rounding to the nearest int when in the drawing code.

    Hi all! I have a alarm thing going on in my app and it launches a notification that then when pressed launched an activity. The problem is that when I create more than one alarm then the activity launched from the notification gets the same extras as the first one. I think the problem is either with the intent i put in the pending intent or in the pending intent itself. I think I might need to put a flag on one of these but I dont know which one. Intent showIntent =new Intent(context, notificationreceiver.class); showIntent.putExtra("details", alarmname); PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, showIntent, 0); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, "The event is imminent", alarmname, contentIntent); And the receiver of the notification Bundle b = getIntent().getExtras(); String eventname = b.getString("details"); details.setText(eventname); The "details" extra is the same to every the next time a notification happens instead of having the different value. Until I set the intents I am sure that the correct value goes to the "details" so its a problem of getting the first intent everytime i press any notification.   • AdMob ads on Android app are not rotating / refreshing

    Has anyone else had this problem? I have a game, and the Ads show at the top of the phone above my game view. When I'm tapping away on the game, the ads just stay the same. BUT, if I don't touch anything and wait the 15 seconds, as is set in my Interval, THEN the ad changes (usually). I don't get any error reports. There's nothing to indicate that this shouldn't be working just fine, but I have no idea why my ads aren't refreshing or rotating while I'm interacting with the other View in my application. Any direction or thoughts would be helpful, thank you!

Although I think that's not really possible (storing the position in the onTouchListener is not working), I want to ask, if there is any other way to accomplish that?   • Android strange behavior with listview and custom cursor adapter

    I have a problem with a list view and a custom cursor adapter and I just can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my code. Basically, in my activity I call initalize() that does a bunch of stuff to handle getting the proper data and initializing the listview. On first run of the activity you can see from the images that one of the items is missing from the list. If I go to another activity and go back to this activity the item that was missing shows up. I believe it has something to do with setContentView(R.layout.parent). If I move that to my initialize() then the item never shows up even when returning from another activity. So, for some reason, returning from another activity bypasses setContentView(R.layout.parent) and everything works fine. I know it's impossible for me to bypass setContentView(R.layout.parent) so I need to figure out what the problem is. Also, I did not include the layout because it is nothing more then two textviews. Also, the images I have attached do not show that the missing item is the last one on the list. I've read a few places that it's not possible to change the content of a TabSpec. Does anyone know why I can add/remove tabs but not change the content of them? And can anyone suggest a workaround for this problem?

  • trying to get the most accurate device location from GPS or Network in Android

    I am trying to determine the most accurate location of a device, in the shortest time possible. I am storing the data as a geopoint, and have it displayed on a mapview. The last time I activated the GPS on my device and let it get a location lock, i was approx 80 miles from where I am now. I have a location manager setup and a location listener. If I do this, I get NULL. myLocOverlay = new MyLocationOverlay(this, mapView); GeoPoint test = myLocOverlay.getMyLocation(); but in the next couple of lines; myLocOverlay.enableMyLocation(); mapView.getOverlays().add(myLocOverlay); With this, the overlay on the map shows the current location. It is using the Network provider, but is also attempting to get a GPS fix (it can't as I am indoors and no where near the top floor). If I construct the geopoint like this; if(lm.getLastKnownLocation("gps") != null) { test = new GeoPoint( (int) (lm.getLastKnownLocation("gps").getLatitude() * 1E6), (int) (lm.getLastKnownLocation("gps").getLongitude() * 1E6)); } else { if(lm.getLastKnownLocation("network") != null) { test = new GeoPoint( (int) (lm.getLastKnownLocation("network").getLatitude() * 1E6), (int) (lm.getLastKnownLocation("network").getLongitude() * 1E6)); } //bad things } Then I get confusing results. If I disable the devices GPS provider then the code moves onto the Network Provider and gives me a fairly accurate result. If I enable the GPS provider, then the geopoint comes back as the last place I allowed the device to get a GPS lock. I want to avoid the above results, and so was looking at using; GeoPoint test = myLocOverlay.getMyLocation(); BUT as I said above, I just get NULL from that. Short of getting the geopoints from both GPS and Network and then comparing them, and disregarding the GPS result if it is say 1 mile out of the Network location - i'm a bit stuck. why doesn't getMyLocation() work, shouldnt that return the GeoPoint of what myLocOverlay is showing on the mapview?
