  What is the best practice is in the case of altering the render order of elements on a webpage. For example, I have two DIVs that are to be displayed on a page: <div id="appleSection"> <!-- Apple DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> <div id="orangeSection"> <!-- Orange DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> Depending on user selection (perhaps by country or something), the order which the DIVs are presented to the user can differ. Certain conditions present appleSection above orangeSection, and for other conditions, their order is reversed. If the core logic of the page is the same regardless, is it a best practice to determine order on the server-side (perhaps via two pages that differ in the order of the DIVs), or is it more appropriate to have just a single page and use CSS to control whether appleSection is above orangeSection or vice versa?

• Entity Framework: a proxy collection for displaying a subset of data

  Imagine I have an entity called Product and a repository for it: public class Product { public int Id { get; set; } public bool IsHidden { get; set; } } public class ProductRepository { public ObservableCollection<Product> AllProducts { get; set; } public ObservableCollection<Product> HiddenProducts { get; set; } } All products contains every single Product in the database, while HiddenProducts must only contain those, whose IsHidden == true. I wrote the type as ObservableCollection<Product>, but it does not have to be that. The goal is to have HiddenProducts collection be like a proxy to AllProducts with filtering capabilities and for it to refresh every time when IsHidden attribute of a Product is changed. Is there a normal way to do this? Or maybe my logic is wrong and this could be done is a better way?

• Annotation based data structure visualization - are there similar tools out there?

  For a project at university I plan to build an annotation based tool to visualize/play around with data structures. Here's my idea: Students which want to try out their self-written data structures need to: mark the type of their data structures using some sort of marker annotation e.g. @List public class MyList { ... } so that I know how to represent the data structure need to provide an iterator so that I can retrieve the elements in the right order need to annotate methods for insertion and removal, e.g. @add public boolean insert(E e) { ... } so that I can "bind" that method to some button. Do similar applications exist? I googled a little bit around but didn't find anything like that.

  Hi, I have a sample ASP.NET application. The appliaction was developed as POC and not following any design and architectural standards. Now I want to restructure the application. I can see some of the business logic and controls can be reused in future, such as login control. I have two options for restructuring I create a Utility DLL that will contain all such resusable code and another DLL that will contain all controls that can be reused. I will create a separeate DLL for each type which can be reused e.g. Login control. Which option is more better. Although I feel option 1 is good, but I need suggestion from experts.

  I am implementing expandable list view with its custom adapter. The group element needs to have 2 buttons, first as a parent group element and a button below it. My problem is, I want to expand the list view on click of the button below instead of the group element. Also, The group element onClick needs to call another activity. I can disable the expanding of the expandablelistview by `mainExpListView.setOnGroupClickListener(new OnGroupClickListener() { @Override public boolean onGroupClick(ExpandableListView parent, View v, int groupPosition, long id) { return false; }` So my questions: Is there any way to disable the group element and get it to perform other functions (Like navigate to another activity?) • SQL - Break a start/end time into 15 minute records

  I've got a record set that consists of a start and end time in two separate fields: id - Int startTime - DateTime endTime - DateTime I'd like to find a way to query a record and return it as X records based on the number of 15 minute intervals found between the start and end times. For example, let's say I have a record like this: id, StartTime, EndTime 1, 1/1/2010 8:28 AM, 1/1/2010 8:47 AM I would return 3 records, the first would represent the 8:15 interval, #2 for the 8:30 interval and then a 3rd for the 8:45 interval. I realize this could be done using logic in an sproc, but we are trying to remain db neutral as we support multiple database engines.

  It's been a few years since I've been heavily into Java. Coming back to it I'm seeing this pattern all over the place: ratingBar.setOnRatingBarChangeListener(new OnRatingBarChangeListener() { public void onRatingChanged(RatingBar ratingBar, float rating, boolean fromUser) { // do work } }); This looks more like Functional programming to me. It's a nice pattern but how is it possible to pass a method like this? In the old days a class was a class, and once compiled there was little you could do to it. My questions are: Can anyone let me know what this pattern is called? How can I write a class that can be instantiated in this way. Are there any other useful examples of functional patterns that have made their way into Java? What do I need to Google to read more about this? Thanks.

• Is it bad practice to select upstream servers based upon the HTTP method?

  I'm wondering if it is bad practice to have a reverse proxy that selects the upstream server depending on the HTTP method used? The background is that I have an abitrary web server that handles POST requests with some logic behind. The same resources also contain static content, that can be retrieved using GET. After some benchmarking I realized that nginx would handle the static content way faster than my abitrary web server doing this. I checked the option to forward incoming requests internally using nginx, which is feasible. But this would lead to the fact that different servers would serve a distinct resource, only depending on issuing a GET or POST, including different header fields.

  I am using the following to check if links exist on file.php: $fopen = fopen('file.php', 'r'); $fread = fread($fopen, filesize('file.php')); $pattern = "/^<a href=/i"; if (preg_match($pattern, $fread)) { echo 'Match Found'; } else { echo 'Match Not Found'; } if I echo preg_match($pattern, $fread) I get a boolean value, not the found matches. I tried what was on the php.net manual and did this: preg_match($pattern, $fread, $matches); then when I echoed $matches I got "Array" message. So I tried a foreach loop and when that didn't display anything I tried $matches[0] and that too outputted nothing. So how does one go about displaying the matches found?

  Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

• PreparedStatement and 'null' value in WHERE clause

  I am using PrepareStatement and BatchUpdate for executimg a UPDATE query. In for loop I create a Batch. At end of loop I execute batch. Above logic works fine if SQL query used in PrepareStatement does not have null values in WHERE claues. Update Statement fails if there is null value in WHERE clasue. • How detect length of a numpy array with only one element?

  I am reading in a file using numpy.genfromtxt which brings in columns of both strings and numeric values. One thing I need to do is detect the length of the input. This is all fine provided there are more than one value read into each array. But...if there is only one element in the resulting array, the logic fails. I can recreate an example here: import numpy as np a = np.array(2.3) len(a) returns an error saying: TypeError: len() of unsized object however, If a has 2 or more elements, len() behaves as one would expect. import numpy as np a = np.array([2.3,3.6]) len(a) returns 2 My concern here is, if I use some strange exception handling, I can't distinguish between a being empty and a having length = 1.

• Which SharePoint Authentication Mode Should I be using for this scenario?

  I currently have a sharepoint 2010 site for which NTLM windows authentication has been enabled (by default it is against Active Directory I believe). I'd need to change this so that I have 1 custom login page which accepts username/password/domain and validates those information against the active directory, then if that was valid, I'll write logic to logon to another webservice which is located on another server and returns me a unique sessionId that I can store (as a cookie) for further use. Please could you advise which authentication mode I can use to create this custom login page? should that be FBA against AD? not sure how that works. Thanks in advance.

I want my network logic to be non blocking so after much study I found that SocketChannel is what I am after regrading my needs. What has not made sense still is the lack of CallBack functions in SocketChannels.. Like one finds in C#.   Our team has recently been working on a logic and data layer for our database. We were not approved to utilize Entity or Linq to SQL for the data layer. It was primarily built by hand. A lot of the SQL is auto generated. An obvious down fall of this is the need to sanitize inputs prior to retrieval and insertion. What are the best methods for doing this? Searching for terms like insert, delete, etc seems like a poor way to accomplish this. Is there a better alternative?

  I want to search for threads in my mysql database with Solr. But i want it to not just search the thread words, but for similar words. Eg. if a thread title is "dog for sale" and if the user searches for dogs the title will be in the result. and also if a user searches for "mac os x" the word "snow leopard" will appear. and the ability to link words the application thinks is related eg. house and apartment. how is this kind of logic done? i know that you can with solr look up words in a dictionary file you create/add, so solr will look for dogs and see what related words there are (eg. dog). but where do you find such a dictionary? i have no idea about this kind of implementation. please point me into right direction. thanks

  Please help me understand: print gettype(new CustomerObject()) prints: "object" (so it is an object) BUT print gettype((new CustomerObject())->get_customer()); prints: unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR If I do it over two lines it works fine $object = new Customer($order->customer_id); print gettype($object); prints: object $customer = $object->get_customer(); print gettype($customer); prints: array It appears that the lines cannot be joined into a single call. Is this correct? and what is the logic behind that?

We are worried about the decompilation of our product which does have some sort of edge over our competitors in terms of usability and bundled functionality. How can we prevent our software from decompilation, so the business logic of the product remains intact? We have heard about Reflector and other decompilers which makes our code very much vulnerable for copying. Our customer base is not Corporates by medical practitioners who themselves may not do it but our competitors may want to copy/disable licensing so value of our software goes down. • Is it possible to create a Service that listens for hardware key presses?

  I'd like to run an Android background service that will act as a keylistener from the home screen or when the phone is asleep. Is this possible?   The documentation on Core Data entities says: You might implement a custom class, for example, to provide custom accessor or validation methods, to use non-standard attributes, to specify dependent keys, to calculate derived values, or to implement any other custom logic. I stumbled over the non-standard attributes claim. It's just a guess: If my attribute is anything other than NSString, NSNumber or NSDate I will want to have a non-standard Attribute with special setter and getter methods? So, for example, if I wanted to store an image, this would be a non-standard Attribute with type NSData and a special method, say -(void)setImageWithFileURL:(NSURL*)url which then pulls the image data from the file, puts in in an NSData and assigns it to core data? Or did I get that wrong?
