  • Android: Touch seriously slowing my application

    - by Jason Rogers
Hi all, I've been raking my brains on this one for a while. when I'm running my application (opengl game) eveyrthing goes fine but when I touch the screen my application slows down quite seriously (not noticeable on powerful phones like the nexus one, but on the htc magic it gets quite annoying). I did a trace and found out that the touch events seem to be handled in a different thread and even if it doesn't take so much processing time I think androids ability to switch between threads is not so good... What is the best way to handle touch when speed is an issue ? Currently I'm using : in the GLSurfaceView @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { GameHandler.onTouchEvent(event); return true; } Any ideas are welcome

  • Django ORM dealing with MySQL BIT(1) field

    - by Carles Barrobés
In a Django application, I'm trying to access an existing MySQL database created with Hibernate (a Java ORM). I reverse engineered the model using: $ manage.py inspectdb > models.py This created a nice models file from the Database and many things were quite fine. But I can't find how to properly access boolean fields, which were mapped by Hibernate as columns of type BIT(1). The inspectdb script by default creates these fields in the model as TextField and adds a comment saying that it couldn't reliably obtain the field type. I changed these to BooleanField but it doesn't work (the model objects always fetch a value of true for these fields). Using IntegerField won't work as well (e.g. in the admin these fields show strange non-ascii characters). Any hints of doing this without changing the database? (I need the existing Hibernate mappings and Java application to still work with the database).

  • Three Java classes: point out all the issues you can find!

    - by Sicarius
I wrote three classes for a colleague of mine (I'm new at this job). They compile just fine, but he tells me there are "defects, bugs, and style problems." He wants me to print the files out and mark the problems such as the standard coding conventions, best practices, format, design, and logic. I wrote this code when I was extremely tired and I plan to rewrite it completely. My mistake was showing to it before looking it over myself again. However, he still wants me to do the markings on paper. Any input is greatly appreciated! The three Java classes ['Station.java', 'ParserInt.java', 'ParserException.java'] are uploaded here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N2CUVSV2

  • Simple user control for conditionally rendering nested HTML

    - by Goyuix
What I would like to do, is be able to pass two attributes to a user control, a ListName and a Permission, like so: <uc:check id="uc" List="Shared Documents" Permission="OpenItems" runat="server"> <!-- have some HTML content here that is rendered if the permission is true --> </uc:check> Then in the actual check user control, have something similar to: <%@ Control language="C#" ClassName="check" %> <% // determine permission magic placeholder if (DoesUserHavePermissions(perm)) { // render nested HTML content } else { // abort rendering as to not show nested HTML content } %> I have read the page on creating a templated control on MSDN, and while that would work - it really seems to be a bit overkill for what I am trying to do. Is there a control that already renders content based on a boolean expression or a simpler template example? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/36574bf6.aspx

  • JS variable scope missunderstanding

    - by meo
I have a little problem: slideHelpers.total = 4 for (i=1;i <= slideHelpers.total; i++) { $('<a href="#">' + i + '</a>').bind('click', function(){ alert('go to the ' + i + ' slide')}).appendTo('.slideaccess') } the alert gives out 5 what is logic, because when the function click triggers i is actually 5. But i would like to have the same i as in my <a> tag. What is the best way to handle this? I could put i in the data() of the <a> tag for example but i am sure there is a easier way.

  • Where to put a piece of code in Ruby on Rails?

    - by yuval
I have a post controller that has many comments. The post model has a field called has_comments which is a boolean (so I can quickly select from the database only posts that have comments). To create a new comment for a post, I use the create action of my comments controller. After I create the comment I need to update my post's has_comments field and set it to true. I can update this field from the create action of my comments controller, but that doesn't seem right - I feel that I should really be using the post's update action, but I'm not sure if it's right to call it (via send?) from the create action of the comments controller. Where should the code for updating the post be? Thank you!

  • Is there anything like Zope Page Templates for Ruby on Rails?

    - by dan
I have a Ruby on Rails app that I built myself, but which needs a redesign by a professional designer. I know most designers just give you Photoshop mockups and slices, but I would like to hire someone to implement the design as well, which means rewriting the css style sheets and the erb and haml templates. The problem is that I want someone else to implement the redesign without exposing my business logic code to the redesign implementer. Also, I wish there was a way to allow a designer to implement a redesign on a Ruby on Rails site without having to know anything about Ruby on Rails. Are either of these scenarios possible using any combination of software tools? I guess I'm looking for something like Zope Page Templates, but for Ruby on Rails. http://quintagroup.com/cms/zpthttp://quintagroup.com/cms/zpt

  • Automatically registering "commands" for a command line program in python

    - by seandavi
I would like to develop a command-line program that can process and give "help" for subcommands. To be concrete, say I have a single script called "cgent" and I would like to have subcommands "abc", "def", and "xyz" execute and accept the rest of the sys.args for processing by optparse. cgent abc [options] cgent help abc .... All of this is straightforward if I hard-code the subcommand names. However, I would like to be able to continue to add subcommands by adding a class or module (?). This is similar to the idea that is used by web frameworks for adding controllers, for example. I have tried digging through pylons to see if I can recreate what is done there, but I have not unravelled the logic. Any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks, Sean

  • StreamTokenizer Iterator Adapter help

    - by alpdog14
I have this StreamTokenizer Iterator Adapter that is suppose to create a Tokenizer Iterator Index Builder then build the index from a STIA wrapped around a StreamTokenizer. I am having trouble implementing the hasNext and Next for my STIA, can anyone help me, here is my class: public class StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter implements Iterator<Token> { DefaultIndexImpl index; StreamTokenizer source; public StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter(final StreamTokenizer source) { if (source == null) throw new IllegalArgumentException("source == null"); } @Override public boolean hasNext() { return !index.isEmpty(); } public Token next() { if(!index.isEmpty()) return next(); else return null; } @Override public void remove() { throw new UnsupportedOperationException(); } } Should I be using the source element in the hasNext() and next()?

  • MessageBox.Show not raising HelpRequested event

    - by Trevortni
I have a form that is showing a MessageBox using MessageBox.Show, and trying to receive events from the Help button on the MessageBox so I can execute my own code. The Microsoft documentation shows how to do this; however, using what is suggested does not work. Here's a shortened version of my code: Private Function MethodName() As Boolean AddHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested Select Case MessageBox.Show("Text", "Title", MessageButtons.YesNoCancel, MessageBoxIcon.Question, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button2, 0, True) Case MsgBoxResult.Yes ' Do stuff Case MsgBoxResult. No ' Do stuff Case MsgBoxResult.Cancel RemoveHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested Return False End Select RemoveHandler Me.HelpRequested, AddressOf Me.MsgBoxHelpRequested End Function Private Sub MsgBoxHelpRequested(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal hlpevent As System.Windows.Forms.HelpEventArgs) ' Breakpoint that never gets hit ' More code End Sub I've been searching for a solution to this problem, but the best I've found is this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2407880/how-to-detect-help-button-press-in-windows-forms-messagebox that refers me back to the same Microsoft code that doesn't seem to be working. Can anybody help me with this? Thank you.

  • How to kill a thread immediately from another thread in java?

    - by Sara
Hi, is there anyway to kill a thread or interrupt it immediately. Like in one of my thread, i call a method which takes time to execute (2-4 seconds). This method is in a while(boolean flag) block, so i can interrupt it from the main thread. But the problem is, if i interrupt it; it will wait till the executing loop is finished and then on next conditional check, it will stop execution. I want it to stop right then. Is there anyway to do this?

  • How to match data between columns to do the comparasion

    - by NCC
I do not really know how to explain this in a clear manner. Please see attached image I have a table with 4 different columns, 2 are identical to each other (NAME and QTY). The goal is to compare the differences between the QTY, however, in order to do it. I must: 1. sort the data 2. match the data item by item This is not a big deal with small table but with 10 thousand rows, it takes me a few days to do it. Pleas help me, I appreciate. My logic is: 1. Sorted the first two columns (NAME and QTY) 2. For each value of second two columns (NAME and QTY), check if it match with first two column. If true, the insert the value. 3. For values are not matched, insert to new rows with offset from the rows that are in first two columns but not in second two columns

  • Convert Yes/No/Null from SQL to True/False in a DataTable

    - by Scott Chamberlain
I have a Sql Database (which I have no control over the schema) that has a Column that will have the varchar value of "Yes", "No", or it will be null. For the purpose of what I am doing null will be handled as No. I am programming in c# net 3.5 using a data table and table adapter to pull the data down. I would like to directly bind the column using a binding source to a check box I have in my program however I do not know how or where to put the logic to convert the string Yes/No/null to boolean True/False; Reading a null from the SQL server and writing back a No on a update is acceptable behavior. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT -- This is being developed for windows.

  • Active Record's SessionScope in BL or DL ?

    - by StupidDeveloper
Imagine that I have 3 projects: DL, BL and WS. DL contains Active Record implementation with all the mappings, BL has some logic (calling various DL methods) and finally WebService project exposes some BL methods (using some DTO mappings). The questions are: Should I put all data related methods in DL or is it allowed to use SessionScope in BL ? There are some complicated stuff that is right now done on BL. Should/can BL operate on classes-mappings of the Active record? The question is where should be the translation to DTO be made (at the BL level? ) ?

  • Partially Modifying an XML serialized document.

    - by Stacey
I have an XML document, several actually, that will be editable via a front-end UI. I've discovered a problem with this approach (other than the fact that it is using xml files instead of a database... but I cannot change that right now). If one user makes a change while another user is in the process of making a change, then the second one's changes will overwrite the first. I need to be able to request objects from the xml files, change them, and then submit the changes back to the xml file without re-writing the entire file. I've got my entire xml access class posted here (which was formed thanks to wonderful help from stackoverflow!) using System; using System.Linq; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace Repositories { /// <summary> /// A file base repository represents a data backing that is stored in an .xml file. /// </summary> public partial class Repository<T> : IRepository { /// <summary> /// Default constructor for a file repository /// </summary> public Repository() { } /// <summary> /// Initialize a basic repository with a filename. This will have to be passed from a context to be mapped. /// </summary> /// <param name="filename"></param> public Repository(string filename) { FileName = filename; } /// <summary> /// Discovers a single item from this repository. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TItem">The type of item to recover.</typeparam> /// <typeparam name="TCollection">The collection the item belongs to.</typeparam> /// <param name="expression"></param> /// <returns></returns> public TItem Single<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem> { using (var list = List<TCollection>()) { return list.Single(i => expression(i)); } } /// <summary> /// Discovers a collection from the repository, /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TCollection"></typeparam> /// <returns></returns> public TCollection List<TCollection>() where TCollection : IDisposable { using (var list = System.Xml.Serializer.Deserialize<TCollection>(FileName)) { return (TCollection)list; } } /// <summary> /// Discovers a single item from this repository. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TItem">The type of item to recover.</typeparam> /// <typeparam name="TCollection">The collection the item belongs to.</typeparam> /// <param name="expression"></param> /// <returns></returns> public List<TItem> Select<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem> { using (var list = List<TCollection>()) { return list.Where( i => expression(i) ).ToList<TItem>(); } } /// <summary> /// Attempts to save an entire collection. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TCollection"></typeparam> /// <param name="collection"></param> /// <returns></returns> public Boolean Save<TCollection>(TCollection collection) { try { // load the collection into an xml reader and try to serialize it. • Why does the infobox in my MSN Map not close?

    - by meder
I'm having a bit of trouble with this map, invoked by the "View our interactive map" button in the middle of the content area. If you double click a point such as 8 which causes a zoom and then afterwards it causes the info box to appear, the hide logic is wrong. If you try to close the x, it will fail. This is probably because the user clicked too fast and the map thinks its in zoom mode when infact it should be in info box mode. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Looks like I have to mess around with window.ero.hide and some other functions.. because map.HideInfoBox doesn't hide the map. EDIT: The script used is here. I did not code it, but the relevant bit has: onclick="EnableEroHide();map.HideInfoBox();changePin();return false;" The map.HideInfoBox() should hide the info box.

  • What is the most efficient functional version of the following imperative code?

    - by justin.r.s.
I'm learning Scala and I want to know the best way of expressing this imperative pattern using Scala's functional programming capabilities. def f(l: List[Int]): Boolean = { for (e <- l) { if (test(e)) return true } } return false } The best I can come up with is along the lines of: l map { e => test(e) } contains true But this is less efficient since it calls test() on each element, whereas the imperative version stops on the first element that satisfies test(). Is there a more idiomatic functional programming technique I can use to the same effect? The imperative version seems awkward in Scala.

  • return char1 + char2? Isn't it possible?

    - by pocoa
I'm trying to return a string from a function. Which basically adds some chars together and return the string representation. string toString() { char c1, c2, c3; // some code here return c1 + c2; // Error: invalid conversion from `char' to `const char*' } it is possible to return boolean values like return c1 == 'x'. Isn't it possible to return string values? I know that it is possible to it like this: string result; result.append(c1, c2); return result; I'm new to C++ so I thought that there must be more elegant solution around.

  • Redirecting before POST upload has been completed

    - by vartec
I have form with file upload. The files to be uploaded actually are pictures and videos, so they can be quite big. I have logic which based on headers and first 1KB can determine if the rest will be processed or immediately rejected. In the later case I'd like to redirect client to error page without having to wait for upload to finish. The case is, that just sending response before POST is complete doesn't seem to work. The redirect get's ignored and if I close connection, browser complains with "Connection reset by peer" error. So the question is: is it even possible to do that in pure HTTP (without JavaScript on client-side), and if so, how?
