    What is the preferred way to work with Singleton class in multithreaded environment? Suppose if I have 3 thread, and all they try to access getInstance() method of singleton class at the same time - What would happen if no synchronization is maintained? Is it good practice to use synchronized getInstance() method or use synchronized block inside getInstance(). Please advise if there is any other way out.

  • pdo connection scope

    Hey guys I have a connection class I found for pdo. I am calling the connection method on the page that the file is included on. The problem is that within functions the $conn variable is not defined even though I stated the method was public (bare with me I am very new to OOP), and I was wondering if anyone had an elegant solution other then using global in every function. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.     I have a ASP.NET solution in Visual Studio 2008 and I added a file identical to http://plugins.jquery.com/files/jquery.cookie.js.txt named jquery.cookie.js in a subfolder of my project containing other javascript files and Visual Studio is treating it as a C# file, giving me errors like CS1012: Too many characters in character literal and Semicolon after method or accesssor block is not valid. I just paste some code that made problem if you want see all code please tell me. After I debug the code, I found that if I set max thread to any and then the first thread always stuck in this loop. That bis.read(....) always return 0. Although, server had close stream and it not get out of the loop. I don't know why ...     In python, is there a way to exit a class after testing a condition, without exiting out of python? say i have the class class test(): def __init__(self): self.a = 2 def create_b(self): self.b = 3 def does_b_exist(self): if <self.b doesnt exist>: #terminate self.b += 1 try/except` doesnt work since the rest of the program doesnt terminate after failing. im basically trying to catch an error, and do what python does when it shows you errors, but i cant figure out how to do it

  • Is it possible to use CSS to align these divs/spans in a table-like manner? (While still retaining continuity)

    I have <div class='line'> <div class='chord_line'> <span class='chord_block'></span> <span class='chord_block'>E</span> <span class='chord_block'>B</span> <span class='chord_block'>C#m</span> <span class='chord_block'>A</span> </div> <div class='lyric_line'> <span class='lyric_block'></span> <span class='lyric_block'>Just a</span> <span class='lyric_block'>small-town girl</span> <span class='lyric_block'>living in a</span> <span class='lyric_block'>lonely world</span> </div> </div> (Excuse me for not being too familiar with proper css conventions for when to use div/spans) I want to be able to display them so that each chord_block span and lyric_block span is aligned vertically, as if they were left-aligned and on the same row of a table. For example: E B C#m A Just a small-town girl living in a lonely world (There will often be cases where an empty chord block is matched up to non-empty lyric block, and vice-versa.) I'm completely new to using CSS to align things, and have had no real understanding/experience of CSS aside from changing background colors and link styles. Is this possible in CSS? If not, how could the div/class nesting structure be revised to make this possible? I could change the spans to divs if necessary. Some things I cannot use: I can't change the structure to group things by a chord_and_lyric_block div (and have their width stretch to the length of the lyric, and stack them horizontally), because I couldn't really copy/select the lyrical lines continuously in their entirety, which is extremely critical. I'm trying to avoid a table-like solution, because this data is not tabular at all. The chord line and the lyric line are meant to be read as one continuous line, not a set of cells. Also, apart from the design philosophy reasons, I think it might have the same problems as the previous thing bullet point. If this is possible, what div/span attributes should I be using? Can you provide sample css? If this is not possible, can it be done with javascript? EDIT: I'm sorry I wasn't clear at the start, but I would like a solution that allows both the chord line and the lyric line to be "selectable" and continuous.

  • Translating a C# WCF app into Visual Basic

    I'm trying to write a simple/small Windows Communication Foundation service application in Visual Basic (but I am very novice in VB) and all the good examples I've found on the net are written in C#. So far I've gotten my WCF service application working but now I'm trying to add callback functionality and the program has gotten more complicated. In the C# example code I understand how everything works but I am having trouble translating into VB the portion of code that uses a delegate. Can someone please show the VB equivalent?   • Supporting twitter-like user page urls with apache/php?

    Hi, I'm using php on apache with mysql. I want to let users enter a url into their browser to see a custom user page for themselves, just like twitter does. For example, they could enter urls like: www.mysite.com/johndoe www.mysite.com/janedoe and see that user's page. How could I do this with php and apache? I don't want to create a folder on disk for every user like above, I'd instead kind of like to catch the url and generate the page on the fly for them, Thanks
