  • Logging to a file on Android

    Is there any way of retrieving log messages from an Android handset. I'm building an application which uses the GPS of my HTC Hero. I can run and debug the application from eclipse but this isn't a good use case of GPS, sat at my desk. When I fire the app up when I am walking around, I get an intermittent exception. Is there anyway I can output these exceptions to a text file on the SD card or output calls to Log.x("") to a text file so that I can see what the exception is. Thread.currentThread().setUncaughtExceptionHandler(new Thread.UncaughtExceptionHandler() { @Override public void uncaughtException(Thread thread, Throwable ex) { PrintWriter pw; try { pw = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/rt.log", true)); ex.printStackTrace(pw); pw.flush(); pw.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }); I had to wrap the line pw = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/rt.log", true)); in a try/catch as Eclipse would not let me compile the app. It kept saying Unhandled exception type IOException 1 quick fix Sorround with try/catch So I did and it all works which is fine by me but it does make me wonder what Eclipse was on about...

    Hello all, I have some troubles with iphone 3G and Mkmapview. After a certain random time, my application freeze. When I launch with performances tool, I can see that the application a lot of time to retrieve map tiles in cache. 19.6 7006 Foundation +[NSURLConnection(NSURLConnectionReallyInternal) 18.5 6613 GMM GMM::TileCachePrivate::runCacheThread() Its seems that the MkMapView component launch several threads to load the tiles in caches. How I can avoid this behavior ? The behavior seems to not make troubles on 3GS. Thanks

  • Can't Get ANT build to work in eclipse

    Long story short: I want to add the --core-library flag at compile time to include a library that depends on some javax libraries that aren't included in the android platform. I have attempted the walkthrough here: http://commons.apache.org/scxml/usecases/scxml-stopwatch-on-android.html but nothing ever changed on the emulator. I don't think I can repackage the libraries I'm after because I cannot amend the callers to call the new packages without violating a license agreement. Please, someone, point me in the right direction.

    How can I remove the present view when I touched the close button. I did [self.view removeFromSuperView] when I added only one subView. It worked. But, I have now added another subView to the previous subView. I need to to get the parent view . How can I do it. My code of adding the subView is here.   • Any way to animate new elements in a GridView being added?

    My app polls a server every 15 seconds to see if there are any new items to display, then downloads the new items and disposes of the old items so that there are always exactly 100 items in the GridView. Unfortunately, this process can be confusing to the user if they see a page of images change without knowing where the items went. My idea is that there could be some kind of animation (such as the new items being inserted at the top and pushing the older ones down the list) to show what action is happening. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make this animation happen. Is my idea even possible? How would I accomplish this?

  • Getting error using ContactManager Sample

    I have created some contacts data in the emulator. When I run the ContactManager sample app downloaded from the Android site, I get an error. Specifically, when trying to add a Contact through the app, I get a NullPointerException. I think it is because the "Target Accounts" spinner on the scree is not getting populated, and hence I cannot select a Target Account before adding a contact. Has anyone run across this problem or has any clues on how to fix this?

I am trying to present a calendar in month view fashion like calendar.app but unfortunately some users in countries like Australia, UK are reporting incorrect alignment of Days to Dates.
