  • Is it worth having SATA 6GB/s cables? [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: Are all SATA cables compatible with SATA 3? 2 answers I've just received some SATA 3 6GB/s cables that I ordered last week, and it struck me how ordinary they look when compared to normal standard SATA cables. My PCI-E SATA3 card is yet to arrive. My question is, would a standard SATA cable have the same transfer speeds as my SATA 3 6GB/s cables? Question is similar to this one, but however it doesn't have an answer. This question isn't asking 'are all SATA cables compatible with SATA 3', it's asking whether SATA 2 and SATA 3 transfer speeds are the same.

  • Why might one hard disk perform slower than another?

    I have just bought two WD 3TB Reds (WD30EFRX) for a FreeNAS box and whilst doing burn-in testing it seems like one is consistently taking about 10% longer than the other. So far I've done: a dd read test of the whole device, a long SMART test and it's currently halfway through a badblocks -wvs. The second device is lagging behind the first on all of them. I'm running these commands on Debian stable in two Konsole tabs. Is there a reason this could be considered normal behaviour or is it worth running the tests independantly? They're both plugged in to the LSI 2308 (IT mode) on a Supermicro X10SL7-F.

  • Laptop HDD not mounting.

    I have a laptop with broken (shorted out) motherboard and a 640 GB HDD. I want to recover my data from the hard disk. Every time I connect the hard disk using an external casing, it is being detected in the disk management service but not visible in my computer, nor accessible through command prompt. The Hard Disk is functioning as I can feel the hard disk rotor working properly when connected using the casing. Also the LED on the hard disk is blinking, the data is there but i am unable to access the data. Someone please suggest me ways of using the hard-disk as a slave disk using casing.

  • 1TB HDD making strange noise (not a common one)

    I built a new PC some days ago, and everything seems perfect, except that the 1 TB HDD I cloned from my old 500 GB HDD is making a deep weird sound. First of all, every time I access the disk, I hear a deep sound, and when the PC is turning on, I hear some clicking (the rapid clicking is my mouse, I'm opening and closing folders to trigger the vibrating deep weird sound I'm describing). I'm using this 1TB disk for data mainly (I use a SSD as the OS). As background information, the disk is a seagate barracuda 7200 rpm which was RMAd and replaced with a refurbished one. Maybe the refurbished disks make these noises? should I worry about my data? (although the disk is working normal and passed a seagatetools short generic test? Thanks!     I need to convert videos for use in both a flash player and the iphone/ipod touch. The videos also seem to play fine on my iphone 3GS. But with some input files it won't work for older iphone versions (3G and iPod touch).     Hi, I'm using ICECAST and I'm streaming AAC/HE-AACv2 audio/video file through flash player and on iPhone. Both are separate. But when I submit url in WINAMP to stream it's requesting username/password. But when I use it with flash player, it just starts streaming. My case is I want to use same streaming (RTMP) for both website and iPhone app and i want to impose control access over my flash player to authenticate who can see streamed video. So, I need to allow access to authenticated users only to see flash player or just reject playing. Now, my provider is not supporting control access on flash player, but i need to do it... can u say how i can do this? Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    I'm scanning a text document for certain installed programs on a computer and looking for an easy way to include a greater or less than variable in the string I'm scanning for. Here is a very ugly and cumbersome example of what I'm using currently and while it works as a temporary fix, isn't practical or sustainable. Essentially I need to scan for "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) Plugin" , "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) ActiveX" , "Java (number less than 9) Update (any number)". I'm sure whatever solution is offered can likely be adapted to similar programs I'm likely to encounter later. Now, inside I've got something that throws an error so I set a message to the flash scope before redirecting: ... if (some_condition) { flash.message = "my error message" return error() } ... Now, I know that when I'm going to display this in the GSP page, I access the flash message as <g:if test="${message}">... instead of the usual <g:if test="${flash.message}">... So anyway, I'm writing my test and I'm wondering how to test the content of the message? Usually, in normal actions in the controllers, I follow what's written in here . However, since this is a webflow, I can't seem to find the message even if I check controller.flash.message / controller.params.message / controller.message . I've also tried looking at the flow scope... Any ideas on how to see the message then? Thanks a bunch!

[text portion] [v] I have used it to display string search operators for the user: equals, starts with, ends with, contains. In Flash, when the icon is clicked, the text-area drops down a list of choices; it would look like this: [ ] [v] equals starts with ends with contains And when the user makes a choice from the list, the choice is displayed in the text area of the button and the list rolls up. [ starts with ] [v] I'm trying to convert my Flash app and am hoping to come up with a counterpart to this functionality. For space considerations on the form, a radio-button-group would be less than ideal. That's the major virtue of this Flash button -- it's very economical in its use of screen real-estate.   • External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

    Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern).   • How do I partition my Hard drive to install Kubuntu?

    I am a complete newbie to partitioning and I would like some guidance here. Can anyone explain what exactly I should be doing here? I am installing Kubuntu 12.04 on a currently Windows 7 laptop. My current Partitions say this: /dev/sda /dev/sda1 ntfs 104 MB 35 MB /dev/sda2 ntfs 319965 MB 87164 MB Basically, what I want is some guidance on what exactly to do here. All I want is a partition for my OS (Which will be Kubuntu 12.04) and a partition for all of my data. I also want to restart fresh with my hard drive, with only what I mentioned on here. I am installing Kubuntu from a flash drive (I set it up as a bootable device with Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.0.9), as I do not have any blank CDs/DVDs to burn to. What should I name my partitions? What should I set the type as? What size do they need to be? Edit: My hard drive is 320GB. Just looked it up in my BIOS. This computer will mainly be used for internet browsing and overall just messing around with the Linux OS.

  • Why am I getting [mount error(22): Invalid argument] while trying to mount SMB network drive?

    Disclaimer: I am very new to Linux :) Anyway, onward: I have a fresh instance of Ubuntu Server (12.04.1 LTS) running on my network and I want to mount a network drive to the server so I can access the contents. The network drive is a SAMBA compatible drive running Darwin OS. If I run the following command: smbclient -L //192.168.0.2 -U myuser It prompts me for the password and then displays output similar to: Domain=[SERVER01] OS=[Darwin] Server=[@(#)PROGRAM:smbd PROJECT:smbx-105.4.0] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- Comp Staff's Public Folder Disk CompRaid03 Disk Dropbox Disk Groups Disk IPC$ IPC Public Disk Users Disk compstaff Disk However, when I try and mount the CompRaid03 share, using this command: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/CompRaid03 /mnt/myshare -o username=myuser I get the same password prompt, but after putting the correct password in, I received this error: mount error(22): Invalid argument dmesg | tail returns: [23576.037373] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -22 I don't understand what is wrong with this command. I've managed to mount a share on my current (Windows 8) machine using basically the same command but with a different IP address and share name (obviously). I've spent a good few hours trying to solve this and got no where. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve EDIT As suggested I've also trued using "user=" instead of "username=": sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/CompRaid03 /mnt/svnrepo -o user=myuser This results in the same "Invalid argument" error.

I have taken an image from a web cam (with no subject) passed it in to bitmap data, then a second image is taken (this time with a subject) to compare this data, from these two images I would like to create a mask from the pixels that match on both bitmaps. I have been scratching my head for a while, and I am not really making any progress.   • how to embed pure as3 bitmap assets with flex4 (worked with flex3)

    In Flex3, I could compile pure as3 code and use "embed" tags to load in images. This was done by Flex making a BitmapAsset class. I can still do this in Flex4. However, there was a trick to fakeout flex3 and use my own mx.core.BitmapAsset class to remove some of the extraneous stuff Flex's BitmapAsset brings in with it. This is described here: http://www.ultrashock.com/forums/flex/embed-flex-assets-without-using-flex-123405.html Unfortunately, I cannot get these tricks to work with Flex4 and get smaller file sizes. I end up with the error "VerifyError: Error #1014: Class mx.core::BitmapAsset could not be found." This error leads me to this forum, and a solution as described there: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/message/148762 Following this advice, I add -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=true, and my swf loads without an error... but this means I am loading in the pieces of the flex framework I wanted to omit (and the file size says so too). Is there a better way to fake out flex4 when it comes to using Embed?

What I mean by dynamic, is that I can programmatically add or remove axisrenderers from the verticalaxisrenderer array at runtime. It seems i can remove axisrenderers at runtime by simply doing this: verticalAxisRenderers = verticalAxisRenderers.splice(index,1); However, ADDING axisrenderers is not working. I am doing it by so: verticalAxisRenderers.push(ar2); verticalAxisRenderers = verticalAxisRenderers; Where am I going wrong? Please help! Thanks, Tone
