• Reverse rendering of Urdu fonts

  I am working on a project that is based on Urdu language in Ubuntu platform. I'm using Python language and have almost achieved my task. The problem is that, the Urdu text is rendered in reverse order. For example, consider the word ??? (which means work) consisting of the three letters: ? , ? , and ? The output is rendered in reverse order as ??? consisting of the three letters: ?, ?, and ? When copying this text to Open Office or opening the generated XML file in Firefox, the generated result is absolutely desired. I Am using Python 2.6 IDLE, its working perfect with Windows platform, which clearly shows its not the problem of IDLE. Am working on TKINTER GUI library. How can this problem be solved?

• Training speech recognition software

  A little left field, but I'm trying to train a speech recognition program and the guidelines suggest that I attempt to speak clearly but naturally. I notice, however, that when one speaks naturally each word tends to drift into the next, resulting in a rather ambiguous boundary between the words. One the one hand, speaking in a more stilted manner would seem to aid the computer in recognising the phonemes, but on the other it would tend to make it less likely to understand more natural speech. Anyone knowledgeable in the field out there who can suggest which of the two approaches is more effective? Thanks

• Disappearing Inlineshapes

  I frequently edit files that have numerous inlineshapes, one per paragraph. One of the edits I make is to eliminate "double" paragraph marks either using Search and Replace or a simple macro that performs the same operation (e.g., search for "^p^p" and replace with "^p"). This operation works fine in Word 97-2003 documents (.doc), but when I try it on .docx documents, I lose all of the inlineshapes. The .docx files seem to ignore the inlineshape, therefore seeing the paragraphs containing them as "empty". Search and Replace sees "^p^p", replaces it with "^p", and the graphic goes away. Any thoughts on how to work around this?

  i'm trying to create a unordered list in Flex. My issue is that within each line, i want the word NEW to be a different font color and different font size from the rest of the label text. I am unsure of how to do this INLINE within the label component. • php preg_match pattern to extract a specific information, regex

  I need to extract a specific Id from a html document but the problem is that the id must not "be used". Here is the html content http://pastebin.com/wF2dx8JZ As you may see there are different html blocks . Some of them contain the "Used" word so I need to extract only the first id which is not used. Basically I can write a simple pattern like : $pattern = "/javascript:tw(.*))/"; preg_match_all($pattern, $content, $matches); $id = $matches[1][0]; However in this case I'm also getting the "ids" which are used so I don't know how to exclude them from the equation . Any idea would be highly appreciated.

• Pros / Cons displaying list of users at login page

  We seem to have a lot of clients asking us to change the login screen in this manner: Display a list of all available users (thumbnail picture + name) User selects a username from the list A password prompt appears near the username User enters password then presses enter This sounds remarcably similar to the Windows XP login, which is probably where they got the ideea in the first place. There are only about 4 - 5 different users that can login at any given station, so implementing that list on one screen is feasable. So I was wondering if there are any usability experts with some word on this method of login. As far as I can tell, MS droped this behaviour in Vista/Win7, didn't they?

• Why are functions loaded at aligned addresses in x86 Linux for elf executables?

  Hi, I've been looking at Linux elf executables on x86, mostly using IDA but also gdb. One thing I've noticed is functions are always loaded at word aligned addresses? Anybody knows the reason of that? I am not aware of any requirement of x86 instructions to start at aligned addresses. And it cannot be due to page alignment cause the page boundary can still be anywhere within the function. I would appreciate any insight at all. Thanks.

  I am writing a matlab code that would be able to read the audio file and then compare it to the another audio and recognize if those audio are the voice of the same person. In both type of the audio, would have the same word utterance and the audio is about 1 minutes long. I have come to know that the approach of sliding windows using hamming window would work best on this approach but have a very little idea on this. • Replication - syncronizing most of the data some of the time

  I have some data that isn't properly "partitioned" (for lack of a better word). All inserts, processing and reporting happen on the same table. The bulk of the processing happens not long after the insert and not long after that it becomes immutable (we're talking days). I could do all inserts and processing on a new table that I replicate to the old table. When I detect that the data has become immutable I would delete the data from the new table, but I would edit the delete replication stored procedure so that the delete did not replicate. How bad an idea is this? It seems attractive at the moment (I haven't slept on it yet) because it might mitigate a performance problem with only very small changes to the application. It also seems like it might be a good way to shoot myself in the foot.

All of this forms have a common part (a template part actually). Is it possible to define a common "parent" content type of this forms ? In fact, I want : Form content type (SP OOB) My root form content type, with standard columns "requester", "process name", etc. Form 1 Form 2 etc. other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 Instead of the standard behavior : Form content type (SP OOB) Form 1 Form 2 other unrelated form 1 other unrelated form 2 etc. Behind this question I want to be able to create a dashboard of all form request using a content query web, by simply specifying the content type ... One last word: the idea is to allow a customer (assuming its knowledge is limited to IP 2010 basic form design). So I can't accept answers like "extract files, use a text editor and hack the xsf file"... thx in advance

  Hi Forum, I am new to Blackberry development (I am using Eclipse with Blackberry plug-in), I am trying to read a text file, which I placed in the "src" folder of my Blackberry project and this text file just contain a word "Test". when I run the program, I gets "UncaughtException: java.lang.outofmemoryerror".   I have a GWT app with a bunch of textboxes. In firefox I would expect that when I type a word in a textbox that I have already typed in and submitted, that firefox would offer to autocomplete that text. But for this GWT app it is not happening. Also in IE it seems that none of my css stuff is loaded. And when I IE developer tools on my GWT page, it can focus in on any of the textboxes it just focuses on the encompassing DIV around all the textboxes.

• How to get width of a div in pixels using JQuery (IE)

  Hello there. At first glance it sounds easy... when using JQuery one can use the .width() method to retrieve the width of an element. The problem comes when the DIV element does not have its size in pixels but in words like 'auto' or 'inherit'. When I do this it works nice in Firefox and Chrome even if the size is specified in words: alert($('#id_div').css('width')); // these two sentences does not It returns something like: 96px. But, IE returns the word 'auto'. I need to know the size it has in pixels because I have to do some calculations with that number... so, I've been wondering how to solve this problem.   what is the best way to find out which terms in a query matched against a given document returned as a hit in lucene? I have tried a weird method involving hit highlighting package in lucene contrib and also a method that searches for every word in the query against the top most document ("docId: xy AND description: each_word_in_query"). Do not get satisfactory results? hit highlighting does not report some of the words that matched for a document other than the first one. i am not sure if the second approach is the best alternative.

• Subversion pre-commit hook to clean XML from WebDAV autocommit client

  I know that it isn't normally safe to modify a commit from a pre-commit hook in Subversion because SVN clients will not see the version that has been committed, and will cache the wrong thing, but I'd like to clean the code from a versioning-naïve WebDAV client that won't keep a local cached copy. The idea is that when I look at the repository with an SVN client, the diffs are clean. The client, by the way is MS Word, using 2003 XML format files. We're already using this format in a WebDAV system, but we'd like to add a versioning capability for expert users. Everywhere I look for documentation on how to modify the code in a pre-commit hook, I get the answer "Don't do this", not the answer "Here's how to do this, but it's reccomeded you don't", so I can't even easily try it to see if it's going to cause me problems.

• Internet Explorer changes brightness

  I have a very annoying problem with IE8 on Vista: My screen brightness changes when I view a page with IE. It slowly dimms brightness some 20% - enough to be noticeable. This seems to be dependent on the OVERALL brightness of the page viewed or of the amount of bright space on the page... sometimes it dimms down if the page is bright, sometimes the complete different, it dimms when lot of dark space is on the page. I know this sounds weird, I cannot describe it better. It takes about one,two seconds from on brightness level to the other. This ONLY occurs in IE - not in Word or any other application. Please help! This dimming is very stressfull for my eyes.

• ASP.net Literal or Page altering HTML string, causing formatting issues

  We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

  I am no professional PHP coder or anything, in fact I am fairly new. I can develop sites but nothing too crazy or fancy with PHP,Mysql,CSS,HTML,javascript. Up to now, all I have been doing is practice coding from books and websites. I am now looking for a 'real-life' experience. Besides going to a company and getting an interview, are there any other options in which I can get paid to code? I have posted some ads on craiglists but that's about it. And because this is my first time going to the 'real-word' and can make mistakes, am I liable if...a site I made for someone gets hacked and that person losses information?

  I love to use Google Documents as MS Word and MS Excel replacements for online collaboration. However, now I need to discuss architecture layout for my software. Nothing too fancy, perhaps a little (pseudo-)UML, but mostly basic shapes (rectangles, ellipses etc.) with labels, connected by thin lines or arrows. • php replace regular expression

  I need to use php to add a space between a period and the next word/letter when there's none. For example, "This is a sentence.This is the next one." needs to become "This is a sentence. This is the next one." Notice the added space after the first period. My problem is that even if I'm able to make a regular expression that finds every dot followed by a letter, how do I then replace that dot with a "dot + space" and keep the letter? Also it needs to keep the case of the letter, lower or upper. Thanks for your input.
