• Truecrypted Windows 7 missing in Grub2 after upgrade

  I have an encrypted dual boot Windows 7/Ubuntu System and upgraded my Ubuntu today. Everything went smooth but my Windows is not shown in the Grub2-List anymore. Starting up I have the Truecrypt Bootloader and after entering the Password I get to Grub (now Grub2). There my Windows 7 entry is missing now. Here is my report: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7569182/ Updating Grub did nothing to it. My guess is that within Ubuntu it does not recognize my Windows Installation on sda1 anymore. I can't mount it aswell. I can only mount it via Truecrypt itself. I think I might have to manually insert the menu item for Windows into that Grub config file. I guess that after entering the password in the truecrypt bootloader it would be possible to start Windows if the item was there - just a guess though. • Ubuntu 12.10 not properply working on Asus u46E after Update

  I recently installed the latest Ubuntu update on my laptop and since then, the alignment on the browser is messed up, the mouse is not working, and I can't connect to the internet. Before it was working perfectly. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks for any feedback FYI: I am right now using windows since I have both linux and windows on my laptop. Also, when booting I do have the option to boot previous ubuntu versions, when I boot the previous unbuntu version on my laptop, everything works accept except the internet. (the mouse works, alignment is proper)

• Save Actions in NetBeans IDE 7.3

  Several developers, especially those familiar with equivalent functionality in Eclipse, have been asking for so-called "Save Actions", that is, support for actions that are automatically performed when a file is saved. Here's the related NetBeans issue: http://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=140719   In NetBeans IDE 7.3, the issue is resolved as follows: A new "On Save" tab is found in the "Editor" tab of the Options window. Defaults for all languages are set via the "All Languages" item in the drop-down. Here, for all languages, you can specify what kind (all, none, or only modified lines) of formatting and space removal will occur automatically when a file is saved: Via the drop-down, you see all the languages supported by the IDE: You can pick a language and then override the default On Save settings: Per language, there may be additional On Save settings. For example, for Java, you can specify that, when saving a Java file, unused import statements should be removed and/or the rules you've set for organizing import statements should be applied: There's also a set of new NetBeans IDE APIs for adding new On Save functionality via custom plugins. Via MIME type registration of OnSaveTask.Factory, you can register new On Save actions that will be run for files conforming to the relevant MIME type. There's also extensions via the Editor Options API for registering new panels (one per language) to the On Save panel in the Options window. • WSUS Showing Incorrect Version & Client Update Failure but they can check-in

  One of the issues we are having is the clients will not download the updates from our WSUS server. They check-in as they are suppose too and find applicable updates but they are unable to actually download and install them. The GPO is set correctly. We decided to install the patch KB2720211to see if it would help eleviate this issue but it did not. In fact, even stranger, if I check the version that is installed on WSUS it reads 3.2.7600.226 but as far as I know it should read 3.2.7600.251. If I check Add/Remove programs to see what Windows Updates have been installed it even lists for WSUS that KB2720211 has been installed at version 3.2.7600.251. To install this update I followed the following directions Question: Has anyone seen this issue where the patch is installed yet not showing the correct version? What can I try to get my clients to update?

• How do you dual boot Windows 7/8 seperatly with GRUB?

  I installed the beta version of Windows 8 and re-installed GRUB. When I boot my computer and select Windows 7, I get the new Windows 8 booting screen asking to boot between either Windows 7 or 8. If I choose Windows 7, my computer then restarts and I have to select Windows 7 again in order to boot into 7. But if I choose Windows 8 it boots right up. I understand I can choose which OS to boot by default, but I want my GRUB options to be the only way to choose between OS's. So my question is, how can I set this up so that when I click on Windows 7, I go there, and when I select Windows 8, I boot 8?

• Searching Netapp Network Share in Windows 7

  Windows 7 famously does not do what its predecessor, Windows XP, did very well, index and search network drives! Sometimes, the logic of MS isd absolutely baffling. That siad, I am trying to find some solution to the issue, which is made more complicated by the fact that we are using a Netapp FAS 2020 as a CIFS fileserver. I know some of the solutions to the Windows 7 search index issue revolve around having a Search Service installed on a Windows 2008 server and then adding that server sahre to the library on the Windows 7 workstation. Is it possible to accomplish this in any way with a CIFS share on a Netapp filer?

• Windows 2008 Server SP2 64bit - TCP Connections never releasing after TIME_WAIT

  Hello fellow admins :) We have an issue with Windows 2008 Datacenter edition SP2 64bit. We have a process that is polling very frequently and establishing new TCP connections. The system gets in a state where we end up with over 16k connections in TIME_WAIT state. The default OS timeout is 120 seconds after which these connections should go away, but that never happens. These connections persist and never get cleaned up even after the originating process has long terminated (we are still at 16k connections two days after the process was killed). The OS is supposed to time them out but it doesn't. Has anyone else seen this behavior and if so what was done to resolve it. We are aware of how to tune the tcp stack to make the timeout shorter or allow more connections but this is not the issue here. Thanks!

• Can't find windows 2000 domain after PDC Change

  This is a windows 2000 domain issue. I had an old win2000 PDC that was beginning to fail. So, trying to be pre-emptive, I installed a new BDC, then "demoted" the old PDC and took it off the network. Now it appears that no member server can "find" the domain anymore. No logins work (for services or a RDP or anything). What I've tried (based on googling): Verified sysvol is shared on all servers. Used nslookup to verify that DC's are being found. netdiag /fix meta data cleanup routines. verified no firewall issues (port 389 etc) seizing all roles to new PDC (I did that as part of the original promotion). LMHOST file and Netbios settings. At the moment it seems like I can get the DC's returned but cannot contact them. I'm at a loss. My latest attempt was to remove a member server from the domain and try to "re-add" it. When I do that I get this message: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cfwebtools.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: db-dev1.cfwebtools.com file-prod1.cfwebtools.com cfwt-pdc2.cfwebtools.com However no domain controllers could be contacted. It then goes on to ask if I've checked my A record and made sure they are running. Is there a way to force this domain to be seen? I also shared sysvol (or double checked it) and restarted the dfsr service. More information. I got looking at sysvol and found it was not shared on 2 of these servers. Only one of them (db-dev1) has a "good" or at least "populated" sys vol store. So I tried doing a "d2" recovery of my PDC against that good sysvol. But it never synchs - or at least it does not seem to synch. I'm guessing if I could get sysvol and netlogin to kick in and replicate that would fix my issue. I think these DC's aren't responding because they are waiting for replication which is broken somehow. Would taking down all the DC's except for db-dev1 fix the issue - at least temporarily? I know I can't just copy the sysvol stuff over to the other 2 can I?

• Restoring Grub after Kubuntu installation

  I installed Kubuntu on top of my existing Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) installation. During Kubuntu installation, I chose lightdm as my default display manager (instead of kdm). Now after rebooting, the Grub has a new color (gray instead of default purplish) and the screen while booting is gray (instead of purplish). I am curious if it is possible to change this grub behavior without removing Kubuntu. I did find a lot of discussion about modifying grub themes but they were not very useful because I do not know what is the default unity grub theme. I did reinstall grub but it didn't change anything. I tried the Grub Customizer but couldn't succeed. Thanks in advance!

• getaddrinfo(3) failed

  I'm trying to connect to a webservice using a PHP wrapper (which is using curl under the covers). On my local linux machine running PHP 5.3 it works perfectly. However, when I move to a remote server (also running PHP 5.3 on Linux) the call the the webservice URL returns: getaddrinfo(3) failed for http://server.host.com:8080/login I get a similar error from a ping on the remote host: ping: unknown host http://server.host.com:8080/login But when I issue a curl request from the command line, it returns the expected URL. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Thanks!

• Lexmark X7170 shows documents as printed when they haven't

  I made the move from Windows 7 to Ubuntu not dual booting because I have decided to quit gaming to spare more time for my studies. I just needed an OS for browsing the web and word processing etc. After I installed Ubuntu I installed the AMD GPU drivers, after which I clicked on the little printer icon, selected add printer and it found the drivers for the Lexmark 7000 series and I installed them. Now my problem is when I print something from Writer it processes it thinks its completed it, when in fact it hasn't printed anything. I tried printing a test page but it was stuck on processing for 5 minutes. I have restarted my computer and turned the printer on and off. I'm running 64bit if that changes anything.

• What would cause SQL 2008 Log Reader Agent to fail with "This process could not execute 'sp_replcmds

  I've seen this error message in other posts. They didn't seem to help resolving our issue. We are trying this with two SQL Server 2008 servers. I backed up my database from the source server and then restored it on our destination server. We setup basic Transaction Replication. The Snapshot Agent is working fine. The Log Reader Agent fails with the error above. Is it most likely a login issue for this job or QueryTimeout?

• Good links somehow being converted to ones with a PHP redirect (not a virus)

  This has happened to links we put on web pages and in emails. We might put www.oursite.org/work/ but when I view source it shows up as webmail.ourhosting.ca/hwebmail/services/go.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oursite.org%2F%2work%2F This ends up at the webmail login page for our web host. But only some of the people who click the link get the login page; others go directly to the original page we intended. We don't want it to go to the webmail login page, nobody needs to log in to our web site. This occurs for links to pages on our site, but also to links to other sites that we put in emails or in posts. It seems to be browser independent as well as e-mail client independent as we variously have used Firefox and Chrome as well as MS Outlook and Thunderbird. I've tried to resolve the issue with our webhost but they keep telling me they don't support our browser, or our email client (i.e., they don't understand the issue). At the moment, our only option is to try another web host just to get rid of their login. Any ideas about what's going on?

  Approximately after 4 days when I installed my Ubuntu 10.10 an interesting problem with my laptop screen starts. I had similar problem what you can see in this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCYVfGVGWyY&feature=related - but it doesn't happen all the time. The most interesting thing is that, than I had that problem only when I turn my laptop screen in different angle. And this "bad" angle changes by the time, so after about 15 minutes after booting computer I can turn laptop screen in normal position. This is software or hardware problem? I'm using HP Pavillion dv9000.

• WiFi can't connect after suspend

  I've had this problem since Ubuntu 11.10 (my first install) but I was able to get around this issue with this answer. After I installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 I tried to use the same fix as before but I couldn't get it to work. I've also tried a couple other different fixes I found around the web but they didn't work. Basically here's what happens: I can see all the networks in my area. When I try to connect to one of them it never connects, it keeps disconnecting. After a little bit it asks for the password again but its already filled in correctly. If I hit okay it will do the exact same thing again. So does anyone know how I can get this fixed?   I have a situation here, is kind of weird. Situation as below: If i enable the 'Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC' , then my pc will not be able to read any USB stick/pendrive, but usb port work fine with keyboard and mouse. If I disable the device driver, then all kind of pendrive can be read. Below is What i have done : 1) try the same pendrive on other pc, it work like charm. 2) try others pendrive on issue pc, same problem, but it work fine in others pc. 3) try all the port, including the port that connected to mouse n keyboard. 4) update the driver version. 5) restore default setting of usb in bios Please help to solve these issue if anyone experience it before. • Ubuntu won't start - blank screen with flashing white cursor

  My laptop is dual-booted with Windows 8 on one partition and Ubuntu 12.04.3 on the other. I've searched for my issue already, but nothing I've found so far has solved the problem. Since last week, when I try to boot Ubuntu from GRUB, I am taken to a purple screen (as usual), but then to a black screen with a blinking white _ cursor. I've tried leaving it, but nothing else happens. When I hold Shift and edit the GRUB entry to change 'quiet slash' to 'text', the back screen instead asks for my login and password. When I put them in, it tells me the date of my last logon, and then waits for further commands. Being very very new to Ubuntu, I have no idea at all what to try out at this point. I tried to launch FailsafeX, but while that was beginning, it said "unable to run server /usr/bin/x" No such file or directory", then shortly after returned to the recovery mode menu. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete goes through an Ubuntu loading screen, then the laptop then restarts. Any suggestions will be very appreciated, and apologies if this is a common issue that has been answered a million times before.

• Couldn't pass the signin screen on ubuntu

  I have an issue here with my computer using ubuntu 10.10 on a 64 bits machine. When I start it, I have the login screen, I enter my credentials but instead of starting the session it reloads the login screen again. I checked the disc using fsck and it seems clean. How should I proceed to diagnose and repair this issue? Thanks! • Computer becomes unreachable on lan after some time

  I work on my laptop and ssh into my desktop. I use a lot of key based authentication for many servers for work but recently I couldn't login because ssh would pick up and try all the keys and it stops trying before ultimately falling back to password based login. So right now I am using this command: ssh -X -o PubkeyAuthentication=no [email protected] #deskto The issue is after sometime the desktop would just become unreachable from laptop. I won't be able to open its localhost through IP and today I tried ping'in it and found a weird thing. Instead of 192.168.1.4, it tries to ping 192.168.1.3 which I am sure is the root cause as it just can't reach 192.168.1.4 when its actually trying for 192.168.1.3 Ping command output: ashfame@ashfame-xps:~$ ping 192.168.1.4 PING 192.168.1.4 (192.168.1.4) 56(84) bytes of data. P.S. - Laptop runs Ubuntu 12.04 & Desktop runs Ubuntu 11.10 Laptop is connected through wifi to router and Desktop is connected through LAN to router. Update: Even after setting up static IP leases in router settings, I again ran into this issue.

  I want to upgrade my machine with a new Motherboard, RAM and Processor. I am planning on doing a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04. The Motherboard I want to use is an Asrock 970 Extreme4 which uses an AMI 32 MBit UEFI BIOS. My Question is, is there anything I have to watch out for during the installation process? Cause I have read that some people have trouble booting into ubuntu using a UEFI BIOS. Any advice? I don't want to spend all that money for the different parts only to find out that I can only use windows properly. Thanks in advance

• ubuntu 12.10 Lenovo b570e, WiFi connected but not working

  I'm running ubuntu 12.10 liveUSB on a lenovo b570e. It has an atheros wifi card that connects with my home network but I can't browse AT ALL. My network is multiple clients --> router --> isp modem --> Internet I can ping my router (192.168.0.1) but not my isp's modem(192.168.15.1). I have 3 other computers connected to the same router that are working fine (infact i'm posting from one) ping -c 3 google.com unknown host google.com ping -c 3 8.8.8.8 shows 100% packet loss I think its some networking issue. I tried directly connecting it to the router via ethernet cable but same issue. It gets an ip, shows LAN connected but can't browse. If I connect it directly to the isp modem via ethernet cable it starts working fine. Connection Information shows: Interface: 802.11 wifi (wlan0) driver: ath9k security: wpa/wpa2 speed: 150mb/s ip: 192.168.0.106 broadcast: 192.168.0.255 subnet:255.255.255.0 default route: 192.168.0.1 primary dns: 192.168.15.1 i have restarted the router and modem many times. Rebooted the LiveUSB many times.

• Windows 7/Outlook 2010 cut off controls on form windows

  I am running windows 7 with multiple monitors. 2 at 1920 x 1200 and 1 at 1600x900 resolution. Controls are cut off and I cannot view the entire content of the window. As far as I can tell I only have the issue with Outlook 2010, it may be present in other applications but I haven't noticed it. For example to get to the more settings button I have to use tab and then click enter. The more settings button is never visible. I have used applications that allow you to force windows to be resizable, however the anchoring is such that it remains cut off. This has been present over multiple clean installs on the system. My DPI is set to 100% unlike this issue.

• Unable to boot 12.04 server: no LVM activated and impossible to mount /

  I'm stuck in the Busy Box shell after upgrading from Ubuntu server 11.10 to Ubuntu server 12.04 64 bit. During the booting phase the system hangs while mounting root filesystem. My system is so configured: /dev/sda1 -- /boot /dev/mapper/vg-lv_root /dev/mapper/vg-lv_var /dev/mapper/vg-lv_tmp When the boot process fails and I'm forwarded to the busybox shell, if I type vgchange -ay I can mount my volumes and all it's OK. But it does not enable LVM automatically so that it is impossible to mount root, var, and tmp. I tried to start with a Knoppix, chroot, reinstall (aptitude) both kernel and lvm2 as suggested by this tread "Fixing unbootable installation on LVM root from Desktop LiveCD": nothing changed. I can't figure out what is the problem. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks in advance.

• How to add a command permanently to grub2

  I have a fairly special setup, using Linux on a MacBook Laptop. to switch off my secondary graphics card in it I'm required to add these lines to my grub outb 0x728 1 outb 0x710 2 outb 0x740 2 outb 0x750 0 I do this by pressing 'e' for my selected grub menu option and adding the lines one by one . then finally booting . But as we know it's not permanent. I cant really figure out where i need to add it for grub to always append it to my Linux boot options. It's doesn't seem to belong in /etc/default/grub since here i can add stuff to the kernel boot line Honestly i'm afraid to fiddle to much with grub on my computer since getting it to triple boot Linux/Mac/Windows was a very delicate and timely matter. Does anyone have any idea of where to add it?
