  • How do I create a Linked Server in SQL Server 2005 to a password protected Access 95 database?

    I need to create a linked server with SQL Server Management Studio 2005 to an Access 95 database, which happens to be password protected at the database level. User level security has not been implemented. I cannot convert the Access database to a newer version. It is being used by a 3rd party application; so modifying it, in any way, is not allowed. I've tried using the Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and the ODBC OLE DB Provider. The 3rd party application creates a System DSN (with the proper database password), but I've not had any luck in using either method. If I were using a standard connection string, I think it would look something like this: Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source='C:\Test.mdb';Jet OLEDB:Database Password=####; I'm fairly certain I need to somehow incorporate Jet OLEDB:Database Password into the linked server setup, but haven't figured out how. I've posted the scripts I'm using along with the associated error messages below. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll provide more details if needed, just ask. Thanks!     I have an client app that runs on several machines, and connects to a single SQL database. On the client app, the user has the possiblity to use a local SQL (CE) database or connect to a remote SQL database. There is also a box where a backup location can be set. For the backup of the remote SQL database I use the following code: var bdi = new BackupDeviceItem(backupFile, DeviceType.File); var backup = new Backup { Database = "AppDb", Initialize = true }; backup.Devices.Add(bdi); var server = new Server(connection); backup.SqlBackup(server); When developing my application, I wasn't aware that the given backupFile is written on the machine where the SQL server runs! And not on the client machine. What I want is "dump" all the data from my database to a local file. (Why? Because users may enter a network location in the "backup location" box, and backing up SQL immediately to a network location fails. So need to write local first and then copy to the network in that case.) I there an alternative to the method above?

    I'm a beginner in coding into C#. While I'm launching a process I can't controls my textboxes. I found some answers on this forum but the explaination is a bit to difficult for me to implement it for my problem. I created a small program that will run a batch file to make a backup. While the backup is running I can't modify my textboxes, disabling buttons etc... I already saw that this is normal but I don't know how to implement the solutions.   • Dynamic Class Inheritance For PHP

    I have a situation where I think I might need dynamic class inheritance in PHP 5.3, but the idea doesn't sit well and I'm looking for a different design pattern to solve my problem if it's possible. Use Case I have a set of DB abstraction layer classes that dynamically compiles SQL queries, with one DAL class for each DB type (MySQL, MsSQL, Oracle, etc.). Each table in the database has its own class that extends the appropriate DAL class. The idea is that you interact with the table classes, but never directly use the DAL class. If you want to support a different DB type for your app, you don't need to rewrite any queries or even any code, you simply change a setting that swaps one DAL class out for another...and that's it. To give you a better idea of how this is used, you can take a look at the DAL class, the table classes, and how they are used on this StackExchange Code Review page. To really understand what I'm trying to do, please take a look at my implementation first before suggesting a solution. Issues The strategy that I had used previously was to have all of the DAL classes share the same class name. This eliminated autoloading, so I had to manually load the appropriate DAL class in a switch statement. However, this approach presents some problems for testing and documentation purposes, so I'd like to find a different way to solve the problem of loading the correct DAL class more elegantly. Update to clarify the issue The problem basically boils down to inconsistencies in the class name (pre-PHP 5.3) or class namespace (PHP 5.3) and its location in the directory structure. At this point, all of my DAL classes have the same name, DBObject, but reside in different folders, MySQL, Oracle, etc. My table classes all extend DBObject, but which DBObject they extend varies depending on which one has been loaded. Basically, I'm trying to have my cake and eat it too. The table classes act as a stable API and extend a dynamic backend, the DAL (DBObject) classes. It works great, but I outsmarted myself and because of the inconsistencies with the class names and their locations, I can't autoload the DBObject, which makes running unit tests and generating API docs impossible for the DBObject classes because the tests and docs rely on auto-loading. Just loading the appropriate DBObject into memory using a factory method won't work because there will be times when I need to load multiple DBObjects for testing. Because the classes currently share a name, this causes a class is already defined error. I can make exceptions for the DBObjects in my test code, obviously, but I'm looking for something a little less hacky as there may future instances where something similar would need to be done. Solutions? Worst case scenario, I can continue my current strategy, but I don't like it very much, especially as I'll soon be converting my code to PHP 5.3. I suspect that I can use some sort of dynamic inheritance via either namespaces (preferred) or a dynamic class extension, but I haven't been able to find good examples of this implemented in the wild. In your answers, please suggest either an alternate pattern that would work for this use case or an example of dynamic inheritance done right. Please assume PHP 5.3 with namespaced code. Any code examples are greatly encouraged. The preferred constraints for the solution are: DAL class can be autoloaded. DAL classes don't share the same exact same namespace, but share the same class name. As an example, I would prefer to use classes named DbObject that use namespaces like Vm\Db\MySql and Vm\Db\Oracle. Table classes don't have to be rewritten with a change in DB type. The appropriate DB type is determined via a single setting only. That setting is the only thing that should need to change to interchange DB types. Ideally, the setting check should occur only once per page load, but I'm flexible on that.

They wanted to upgrade the topology with completely new SharePoint Farm of three servers. So, the task was to move whole MOSS 2007 stuff to the new server environment without impacting data. The last three scary words “… without impacting data…” were actually putting pressure on my head. Moreover SSP was required to move because additional information has been added for users apart from AD import.   I thought I had to do only backup and restore. It appeared pretty easy at first thought. Just because of these damn scary words, I thought to check out on internet for guidance related to this scenario. I couldn’t get anything except general guidance of moving server on Microsoft TechNet site. I promised myself for starting blogs with this post if I would be successful in this task. Well, I took long time to write this but finally made it. I hope it will be useful to all guys looking for SharePoint server movement.   Before beginning restoration, make sure that, there is no difference in versions of SharePoint at source and destination server. Also check whether the state of SharePoint Installation at the time of backup and restore is same or not. (E.g. SharePoint related service packs and patches if any)   The main tasks of the server movement are as follow:   Backup all the databases Install and configure SharePoint on new environment Deploy all solution (WSP Files) globally to destination server- for installing features attached to the solutions Install all the custom features Deploy/Copy custom pages/files which are added to the “12Hive” folder later Restore SSP Restore My Site Restore other web application   Tasks 3 to 5 are for making sure that we have configured the environment well enough for the web application to be restored successfully. The main and complex task was restoring SSP. I have started restoring SSP through Central Admin. After a while, the restoration status was updated to “unsuccessful”. “Damn it, what went wrong?” I thought looking at the error detail down the page. I couldn’t remember the error message but I had corrected and restored it again.   Actually once you fail restoring SSP, until and unless you don’t clean all related stuff well, your restoration will be failed again and again. I wanted to find the actual reason. So cleaned, restored, cleaned, restored… I had tried almost 5-6 times and finally, I succeeded. I had realized how pleasant it is, to see the word “Successful” on the screen. Without wasting your much time to read, let me write all the detailed steps of restoring SSP:   Delete the SSP through following STSADM command. stsadm -o deletessp -title <SSP name> -deletedatabases -force e.g.: stsadm -o deletessp -title SharedServices1 -deletedatabases –force Check and delete the web application associated with SSP if it exists. Remove Link from Check and remove “Alternate Access Mapping” associated with SSP if it exists. Check and delete IIS site as well as application pool associated with SSP if it exists. Stop following services: ·         Office SharePoint Server Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Help Search Delete all the databases associated/related to SSP from SQL Server. Reset IIS. Start again following services: ·         Office SharePoint Server Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Search ·         Windows SharePoint Services Help Search Restore the new SSP.   After the SSP restoration, all other stuffs had completed very smoothly without any more issues. I did few modifications to sites for change of server name and finally, the new environment was ready.

  • Why does unpartitioned Hitachi HDS5C3020 drive start consuming 50% more power 15 minutes after boot?

    In a Debian 6.0.6 system there are 74 pieces of 2TB Toshiba DT01ABA200 drives. These drives are identified as Hitachi HDS5C3020BLE630 drives running firmware revision MZ4OAAB0. 64 Drives attached via HP SAS expander cards to an LSI 2008 SAS controller, another 5 drives are connected directly to the mainboard, 4 drives are connected to a Sil based PCI controller and last 1 drive is only powered and has no data cable connected. The controller LSI and Sil card's their onboard BIOS are both disabled and the mpt2sas and sata_sil modules are removed from the Linux debian 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 10:07:46 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux kernel. The mpt2sas module is loaded after boot using a modprobe command in /etc/rc.local. These 74 drives are not partitioned, neither formatted and also not mounted. The system consumes: with 0 drives: 70.6 - 70.9 Watt (also 15 minutes after boot); with 74 drives: 330 - 360 Watt, just after boot (is equivalent to 3.5 - 3.9W per drive in idle state); with 74 drives: 420 - 466 Watt, each time in the 15th minute of uptime (is equivalent to 4.7 - 5.3W per drive in idle state). The drive specification lists 4.7W as read/write, and 3.3W as idle power consumption. The increased power consumption is most likely on the 5V line, because after roughly 1 minute an "over current protection" (OCP) of the power supply (PSU) shuts down the power. The used PSU is a single rail model with an OCP of 122A on the 12V line and 55A on the 5V line. Regression: It doesn't matter whether the drive its APM value is set to disabled or 1 (maximum power saving). The operating system records no read/write activity in /proc/diskstats. The values there are identical (28 read, 0 write operations) as immediately after the modprobe operation. Can't test what happens when booting into the mainboard it's BIOS - to exclude any OS intervention - because the Super Micro X8SI6-F mainboard running firmware 06/27/12 has a bug that incorrectly reads a +74.0 C CPU sensor temperature as "High" in BIOS mode, and shuts down the power after 1 minute. What might be causing the drive read/write activity on all drives in the 15th minute after boot and how to prevent it from happening?

    What's the difference in content between the Ubuntu and Lubuntu Software Centers? I've seen this Are softwares installable on ubuntu also installable on lubuntu? which indicates that the content should be the same. However, I looked for Ridual, OrthCal, Cuttlefish and MenuLibre. While all four are available in the Ubuntu Software Center, they aren't listed in the Lubuntu Software Center. Will they eventually be listed? Who decides? I'm asking because one of the criteria in the apps showdown, if I understood correctly, was desktop integration. If by "desktop", Unity is specifically implied then it would make sense not including them in the Lubuntu Software Center. Is that correct? I'm on 12.04.

  • Extract Key and Certificate from Kemp Loadmaster?

    I'm trying very hard to get away from a set of Kemp Loadmasters that I bought years ago to provide HA access to our website. Part of that process is going to be putting the key and certificate in the new solution (HAproxy with nginx doing SSL). Unfortunately, I've come up against a problem... The Kemp has built-in certificate management, and it generates CSR's at the touch of a button. It also supported importing of signed certificates, however it does not, so far as I can tell, allow any kind of export of the key itself. There is a "backup key and certificates" ability, however here's the text from the manual: LoadMaster supports exporting of ALL certificate information. This includes private key, host and intermediate certificates. The export file is designed to be used for import into another LoadMaster and is encrypted. Export and import can be completed using the WUI at Certificates -> Backup/Restore Certs. Please make sure to note the pass phrase used to create the export, it will be required to complete the import. You can selectively resort only Virtual Service certificates including private keys, intermediate certificates or both. Well, that is great, but as for actually DEALING with the certs, I'm apparently out of luck. Of course, I'm not going to give up that easily. I ran "file" on the saved cert bundle and got this: $ file client1.certs.backup client1.certs.backup: gzip compressed data, from Unix Well, awesome, I thought. Maybe it's just a .tar.gz, so I unzipped it, and that went fine, but my attempts to untar it didn't work, and running "file" on it now just gives this: $ file client1.certs.backup client1.certs.backup: data So that's where I'm stuck. Anyone have experience with these?

    Hi all, I'm trying to build from a *.src.rpm file on FC 12 in such a way that the files are distributed a across my system as they would with a normal binary build (in this case, *.h files end up in /usr/include). When I ran rpmbuild, the headers weren't present.   • Sun-JRE on CentOS-4.8 RPM error: post-install scriptlet failed, exit status 5

    I have a server with CentOS 4.8 installed. The provided is rubbish, but there's only a few months left, and they're busy being sued by Chase bank, so I doubt I can get CentOS 5. I wiped the server clean using Virtuozzo, and found that the default image is VERY empty. I even had to install yum myself. I've reached the point where I want to install TomCat. I downloaded the Sun JRE as a .rpm.bin file, did chmod a+x and ran it.   • Changes to grub in ubuntu 10

    I've been running CentOS 5 for some years. I've decided to upgrade to Ubuntu, and with 10.04 just out, this seemed like a good time. I'm a tad paranoid, so I started off with a new set of drives - one to install on, one to backup to, and one as a spare. I removed my existing CentOS 5 drives, and did an install, and had no problems. I installed the server version, and used the default full-disk LVM installation. Next, I copies my backup scripts over, edited them to work with the new configuration, and did a test backup. That worked fine, as well. Then comes the real test, could I do an install of the backup onto the spare drive? (I won't put anything of importance on a system that doesn't have a reliable backup, and if I've never done a restore, it's not reliable.) I booted from a System Rescue CD (ver 1.5.3), with the spare drive as /dev/sda, and the backup drive as /dev/sdb. I had no trouble in partitioning, configuring LVM, formatting, making swap, or restoring the file systems. But when I got to restoring grub to the MBR, I ran into problems. My restore instructions from CentOS 5 said run grub, then enter two commands: root (hd0,0) setup (hd0) The first command exits with an error: "Checking if /boot/grub/stage1 exists ... no" I did some googling around, and found that the Grub2 included in recent Ubuntus is very different than the Grub 0.97 included in CentOS 5. One site suggested I use: grub-install --root-dir=/mnt/restore /dev/sda That appeared to work, but when I booted from the drive, I ended up at a grub prompt. Any ideas as to what I need to do? It seems like a simple problem, but my attempts at searching out answers on the web are being swamped by references to the old version of Grub. Help would be appreciated.

    In Excel 2007 in the Save As box there is an option to 'Create a Backup' which simply backs up the file whenever it is saved. Unfortunately it backs up the file to the same directory as the original. Is there a simple way to change this directory to another drive / folder? There are several possible reasons: The file name or path does not exist The file is being used by another program The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a... I know the path is correct, I also know that the file is not open anywhere else. The workbook has the same name as the one I'm trying to save over but it should just overwrite.     I'm using diskshadow to backup live Hyper-V machines on a Windows 2008 server. The backup consists of 3 scripts, the first will create the shadow copies and expose them, the second uses robocopy to copy them to a remote location and the third unexposes the shadow copies again. The first script – the one that runs correctly but fails to do what it's supposed to: # DiskShadow script file to backup VM from a Hyper-V host # First, delete any shadow copies of the drives. System Drives needs to be included. Delete Shadows volume C: Delete Shadows volume D: Delete Shadows volume E: #Ensure that shadow copies will persist after DiskShadow has run set context persistent # make sure the path already exists set verbose on begin backup add volume D: alias VirtualDisk add volume C: alias SystemDrive # verify the "Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer" writer will be included in the snapshot # NOTE: The writer GUID is exclusive for this install/machine, must be changed on other machines! writer verify {66841cd4-6ded-4f4b-8f17-fd23f8ddc3de} create end backup # Backup is exposed as drive X: make sure your drive letter X is not in use Expose %VirtualDisk% X: Exit The next is just a robocopy and then an unexpose. The backup consists of 3 scripts, the first will create the shadow copies and expose them, the second uses robocopy to copy them to a remote location and the third unexposes the shadow copies again. System Drives needs to be included. How can I convert it? How can I use ToValueProvider with a complex model? I hope I was clear enough Thanks a lot :)

I have a query in LINQ, I want to get MAX of Code of my table and increase it and insert new record with new Code. just like the IDENTITY feature of SQL Server, but here my Code column is char(5) where can be alphabets and numeric. My problem is when inserting a new row, two concurrent processes get max and insert an equal Code to the record. my command is: var maxCode = db.Customers.Select(c=>c.Code).Max(); var anotherCustomer = db.Customers.Where(...).SingleOrDefault(); anotherCustomer.Code = GenerateNextCode(maxCode); db.SubmitChanges(); I ran this command cross 1000 threads and each updating 200 customers, and used a Transaction with IsolationLevel.Serializable, after two or three execution an error occured: using (var db = new DBModelDataContext()) { DbTransaction tran = null; try { db.Connection.Open(); tran = db.Connection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Serializable); db.Transaction = tran; . . . . tran.Commit(); } catch { tran.Rollback(); } finally { db.Connection.Close(); } } error: Transaction (Process ID 60) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. other IsolationLevels generates this error: Row not found or changed. Please help me, thank you.

I need to roll back all the other queries processed before that error statement, and the roll back is also not happening.. can you help pls.
