• MS Access 2003: Can data disappear from records and how do I test for this and prevent it?

  Problem and about the database: Data from a record in Access 2003 database has disappeared. This database has 1 backend and 3 frontends, multiple users and is hosted on Citrix. Within this database, we have records of all clients served, ranging in the 1000s. Background info: The form for client data entry is set up with various subforms, including both a "programs enrolled" subform and a "services" subform. A client can be enrolled in multiple programs. Once enrolled in a program, services can be entered for that program area using the services subform. There are multiple fields in the services subform, one of which is a drop-down field allowing you to choose from the programs a client has been enrolled in (the list is updated for that client whenever he is enrolled in a new program). The problem details: For one specific record and one specific program area, the program has disappeared from the "programs enrolled" subform and all of the related services have disappeared from the "services" subform for a period of 3 months of data entry. However, other programs and services for this record did not disappear. Questions: Is the disappearance of data a common Access 2003 problem? Are there tests in place that can be run to see if data is disappearing and catch that data? If so, what are they? If there is specific code involved, what is it? What can be done to prevent the disappearing of data (other than using a different database)?

• JSF 2/Primefaces p:ajax not updating panel after onchange event is fired

  I am really stuck with this for the last 2 days and am struggling to understand how Primefaces updates UI components on the client based on their ID. I have a h:selectOneMenu with a count for the number of panels to be displayed. Each p:panel will contain a panelGrid with numerous form elements. The onchange event on the drop down is fired and I can see the count in the Managed Bean. • Why doesn't Data Driven Subscription in SSRS 2005 like my Stored Procedure?

  I'm trying to define a Data Driven Subscription for a report in SSRS 2005. In Step 3 of the set up you're asked for: " a command or query that returns a list of recipients and optionally returns fields used to vary delivery settings and report parameter values for each recipient" This I have written and it returns the data without a hitch. I press next and it rolls onto the next screen in the set up which has all the variables to set for the DDS and in each case it has an option to "Select Value From Database" I select this radio button and press the drop down. No fields are available to me. Now the only way I could vary the number of parameters returned by the SP was to have the SP write the SQL to an nvarchar variable and then at the end execute the variable as sql. I have tested this in the Management Studio and it returns the expected fields. I even named them after the fields in SSRS but the thing won't put the field names into the dropdowns. I've even taken the query body out of the Stored Proc, verified it in SSRS and then tried that. It doesn't work either. Can anyone shed any light into what I'm doing wrong?

• Hidden Field losing its Value on postback

  I have a ascx page where I am using a hidden field to store the value of a the drop down box as it is generated using a google address finder. My problem is that when I try to store the value directly in the hidden field : hfDdlVerifyID.Value = ddlVerifySS.SelectedValue; in the event of a button click, the value is stored but on postback is lost again. • Recommendations on developing a WPF application without using MVVM or similar

  We were building out the next version of an in-house thick-client application using WPF/Prism (Composite Application Library). As we were nearly done with the client our team was put under new management and shortly thereafter: We were then directed to drop the Prism framework to keep things simple. This includes not using any type of Inversion of Control. We were directed to build out the WPF application without using MVVM or similar; and more along the lines of a traditional WinForm application. The idea is that if a developer sees a control in Visual Studio’s designer view, then (s)he should be able to click on the control and see exactly what it's doing without having to traverse through a view-model (or similar). We have now been tasked with building out the WPF application using one primary Window, use a Frame Control to contain the content, and use a Ribbon outside of the frame for the menu items. Reason we were provided to use Frame Control: a. We will show a view in the Frame with a Page (not a user control) and then load the page in the Frame. b. When a new view is to be shown in the Frame, the current view (Page) will be closed/disposed and the new view (Page) will take its place in the Frame. c. When a developer looks at the Page in design view, (s)he will be able to click on any control and see exactly what is being done. Given the restrictions of 1 and 2 above, we’d like to present another method of building out the application that: Can be presented as an alternative to using the “Frame Methodology” (item 3 above) but still provides the same type of functionality. Does not use MVVM (see #1 and #2 above). Provided the direction we’ve been given, any suggestions as to an alternative we can present? I’d request that the responses be kept on the professional level and thank you in advance.

  I have a form with a drop down list of venues and a submit button. They are supposed to be on the same line, but since the list of venues is dynamic, it could become too long and push the button down. I was thinking of setting a max-width property to the select, but I'm not clear whether this will work in all browsers.   QUESTION: I'm drawing a legend on an axes object in matplotlib but the default positioning which claims to place it in a smart place doesn't seem to work. Ideally, I'd like to have the legend be draggable by the user. How can this be done? SOLUTION: Well, I found bits and pieces of the solution scattered among mailing lists.   Hi I already have experience in developing websites using java technologies ... Now i have a task to develop another website and i have the liberty to select technology to built. I dont want to built using Java/J2ee standard technology as i want to learn new language. The specification about website i can give is that: 1) its a real estate based site. 2) so it will have a db of real estate data around million records 3) website will have more than 1000 hits /day and will have various functionality like search, add , delete,generate reports etc. So i mean UI should be good and fast. Technologies i have in mind .NEt( i have already worked on it but it licensed so may not go for it) , Groovy, Ruby on rails ,Play, GWT etc ... I am a college student and the website is again of a student(non techie guy) so i have 5-6 mnths to bring the website up I have read about them but all have adv and disadv but would like to hear from people who have used it and can tell me what they felt about the languages and problems while developing it.. • UIView using Quartz rendering engine to display PDF has poor quality compared to original.

  I'm using the quartz rendering engine to display a PDF file on the iphone using the 3.0 SDK. The result is a bit blurry compared to a PDF being shown in a UIWebView. How can I improve the quality in the UIView so that I don't need to rewrite my app to use the UIWebView. I'm using pretty much close to the example code that Apple provides. Here is some of my sample code: CGContextRef gc = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSaveGState(gc); CGContextTranslateCTM(gc, 0.0, rect.size.height); CGContextScaleCTM(gc, 1.0, -1.0); CGAffineTransform m = CGPDFPageGetDrawingTransform(page, kCGPDFCropBox, rect, 0, false); CGContextConcatCTM(gc, m); CGContextSetGrayFillColor(gc, 1.0, 1.0); CGContextFillRect(gc, rect); CGContextDrawPDFPage(gc, page); CGContextRestoreGState(gc); Apple's tutorial code actually results in a blurry PDF view as well. If you drop the same PDF into a UIWebView you'll see it is actually sharper. Anyone have any ideas? This one issue is holding a two year development project from launching. :(

  I'm hittig my head on this and i will be glad for any help. I need to store in a database a context (a list of string ids) for another page. I open a page with a list of artworks and this page save into the database those artowrks ids. When i click on an artwork i open its webpage but i can access the database to know the context and refer to the next and prev artwork. • Finding most efficient transmission size in varying network latency scenarios

  I'm building a .NET remoting client/server that will be transmitting thousands of files, of varying sizes (everything from a few bytes to hundreds of MB), and I'm curious about a general method for finding the appropriate transmission size. As I see it, there's the following tradeoff: Serialize entire file into a transmission object and transmit at once, regardless of size. This would be the fastest, but a failure during tranmission requires that the whole file be re-transmitted. If the file size is larger than something small (like 4KB), break it into 4KB chunks and transmit those, re-assembling on the server. In addition to the complexity of this, it's slower because of continued round-trips and acknowledgements, though a failure of any one piece doesn't waste much time. The ideal transmission method (when taking into account negotiation latency vs. failure rate) is somewhere in between, and I'm wondering about how to find out the best size for that particular client. Do I have some dynamic tuning step in my transmission that looks at the current bytes/second average, and then raises the transmission size until the speed starts to drop (failures overwhelm negotiation cost)? Or is there some other method for determining ideal transmission size? The application will be multi-threaded, so number of threads also factors in to the calculation. I'm not looking for a formula (though I'll take one if you've got it), but just what to consider as I create this process.

• Ajax actionlinks straight from a DropDownList

  I've got a small linkbox on the side of my page that is rendered as a PartialView. In it I have a dropDownlist the should change the routing value of the links in the box but I'm having difficulty doing so. My current plan is to call on something similar to a Ajax.ActionLink to reload the partial view into the with a different parameter based on the value of the dropdown selection. However I'm having multiple problems with this, for example as a novice in using dropdownlists I have no idea how to call on the selected value for example. <%= Html.DropDownList("DropDownList1", new SelectList(Model, "ID", "Name"), "--Pick--", new { AutoPostBack = "true", onchange = "maybe something here" })%> I tried putting in the sys.mvc.AsyncHyperlink into the onchange attribute and that worked except I don't know how to put in the route value for it. Sys.Mvc.AsyncHyperlink.handleClick(this, new Sys.UI.DomEvent(event), { insertionMode: Sys.Mvc.InsertionMode.replace, updateTargetId: 'SmallMenu' } Is there no straight Ajax drop down list that fires events onchange? Any way this is possible? I have later in the Partial view the Ajax actionlinks but they need to have their id's updated by the value in the dropdownlist and if I could do that somehow else I would appreciate a suggestion.

• Perl DBI execute not maintaining MySQL stored procedure results

  I'm having a problem with executing a stored procedure from Perl (using the DBI Module). If I execute a simple SELECT * FROM table there are no problems. However, the Perl will only return a new ID, (incrementing by 1 on each run). It also doesn't store the result in the database. It looks like it's executing a DELETE on the new id just after the update_current_stock_price function is run. Any help? Does Perl do anything funky to procedures I should know about? • Changing values of (multiple) dropdown lists from one dropdown list in MVC

  I have an MVC page, with some controls inside a form. The part I need help with: I have a bunch of dropdowns in a list. All dynamically named (drop{0}, where {0} is the id (really, its just a counter: 1,2,3,etc)). At the top of the list, I want to have another dropdown that will update ALL the dropdowns when it is changed. I've done similar things with checkboxes (check one and all are checked, etc) so I assume this can be done, hopefully just as simple. I'd prefer it to be on the client side, so once the form is submitted, the new values will be added/updated to the database. Edit: The values of ALL the dropdowns are static. They are all a list of 1-50, representing the number of cards I need to produce for a given record. This is how I did the checkbox: $("#chkSelectAll").click(function() { $(".checkbox").attr('checked', this.checked); }); Any thoughts on where to begin? Thanks!

• Possible to change the alpha value of certain pixels on iPhone?

  Is it possible to change just a portion of a Sprite's alpha in response to user interaction? A good example of what I mean is iFog or iSteam, where the user can wipe "steam" off the iPhone's screen. Swapping images out wouldn't be feasible due to the sheer number of possibilities where the user could touch and move... For example, say you have a simple app that has a brick wall in the background that has graffiti on it, so there'd be two sprites, one of the brick wall, then one of the graffiti that has a higher z value than the brick wall. Then, based upon where the user touches (assuming their touch controls a sandblaster), some of the graffiti should be removed, but not all of it, which could be accomplished by changing the alpha value on a portion of the graffiti sprite. Is there any way to do this in cocos2d-iphone? Or, do I need to drop down into openGL, and if so, where would be a good place to start my search on how to accomplish this? Ideally, I'd like to accomplish this on a cocos2d-iphone Sprite, but if it's not possible, where's the best place to start looking? Thanks in advance, Ben

For example , a value will change all the textbox value and a values may only change some textbox value.How can I reRender conditionally ? What method is more prefer for maintainability?

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I saw this similar question but there are no answers.

  I have my screen divided into two DIVs. In the left DIV I have a few 50x50 pixel DIVs, in the right DIV I have an empty grid made of 80x80 LIs. The DIVs on the left are draggable, and once dropped on a LI, they should snap to center of that LI. Sounds simple, right? I just don't know how to get this done. I tried by manipulating the dropped DIV's top and left CSS properties to match those of the LI they're dropped into, but the left and top properties are relative to the left DIV. How can I best have the dropped element snap to the center of the element it's dropped into? That's gotta be simple, right? Edit: I'm using jQuery UI 1.7.2 with jQuery 1.3.2. Edit 2: For whoever else has this problem, this is how I fixed it: I used Keith's solution of removing the dragged element and placing it inside the dropped-on element in the drop callback of the droppable plugin: function gallerySnap(droppedOn, droppedElement) { $(droppedOn).html('<div class="drop_styles">'+$(droppedElement).html()+'</div>' ); $(droppedElement).remove(); } I don't the dropped element to be draggable again, but if you do, just bind draggable to it again. For me this method also solved the problem I had when positioning the dropped elements (which would be relative to the left DIV) and scrolling inside the second DIV. (Elements would remain fixed on page, now they scroll along). I did play with the snap options to make it look good while dragging, so thanks to karim79 for that suggestion. I probably won't win any Awesome Code prizes with this, so if you see room for improvement, please share!

When using the "right" name, the dropdown does post correctly, I just can't seem to set the selected value. I don't think this matters but I am running MVC 1 on mono 2.6

  Maybe I don't understand how clone works with sortable, but here is what I would like to do. When sorting an item I would like a clone of the item I am dragging remain until I stop drop the item in its new position. • Autocomplete or Select box? (design problem)

  I'm working on a comparison website, so needless to say the search function is the primary feature of the site. I have two input text boxes and a search button. At the moment, the input text boxes use Ajax to query the database and show a drop-down box, but I'm wondering if it would be more intuitive to use a select box instead? The second box is dependant on the first, as when the first is selected theres another ajax query so only the available options for the first selection appear in the autocomplete box. Autocomplete Pros: - "Feels" right? - Looks more appealing than a select box (css design)? Cons: - the user has to be instructed on how to use the search (made to think?) - Only really works off the bat with javascript enabled. - The user may get confused if they type in what they want and no box appears (i.e., no results) Select Box Pros: - Can bring up the list of options / know whats there from the outset. - We use select boxes every day (locations etc.) so we're used to how they work. (more intuitive?) Cons: - Can look a little unaesthetic when theres too many options to choose from. I'm thinking maybe at most around 100 options for my site over time. Any thoughts on how I could go about this would be appreciated!

• Images missing after moving Django to new server

  I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files. • Multilingual spellcheck on WPF richtextbox

  I need to turn spellcheck on for a richtextbox, and set the language to one the user has picked from a drop down. For now, I'm just testing it by building the richtextbox in xaml and providing a language to the xaml language attribute. I've read two different resources and one says I need to set the language attribute, and the other says I need to set the xml:lang attribute. Neither seems to work. I've tried setting either one to "es" for Spanish, and I've also tried setting both to "es". I've also tried french by setting them to "fr-FR", without success. The only thing that happens is that english words aren't marked, but the other language words are marked as misspelled. I also read that I need to change the keyboard language. This would be a problem for my application as the language within the application needs to be switched on the fly, so having the end user go to their keyboard settings just so spellcheck will work is a problem. However, I've changed my keyboard settings, and spell check still does not work properly. This time it doesn't mark anything as misspelled, even misspelled english words. What am I missing?
